7th Of February 2013: Ten Things You Need To Know This Morning

Top of the morning my good people! Today being the morning after Nigeria Mali-ciously booked their ticket to the Afcon finals, Kenya Libya-rated themselves away from home in a three-ling manner and Bright Gameli’s Ghana bowed out of the AFCON cup Uncle Chim Tuna has ten things you need to know this morning:

#1. Robert Alai, the man everyone loves to hate -although i have no idea why- posted pictures on the damn internets alleging that they were of your Uncle Chim Tuna f*nger*ing a girl at B&W. See the photos here.

#2. Mutahi Ngunyi seems to be hellbent on fixing the hangman’s noose round his neck asthough it were a tie or so Jeff Omondi thinks. Find out what that was all about here!

#3. Disturbing images of a sickly Samuel Kivuitu surfaced on the internets after his recent interview with KTN and boy does he look horrible. Have a look for yourself here.

#4. Former TPF contestant has made his entry onto the musical world by singing an ode to his Mercedes Benz. Find out more about that here.

#5. Adam Wagwau got his mitts on the photos of the beautiful girls who’ll be participating in Kenya’s Miss University beauty pageant and my oh my! They are quite the lookers!

#6. Churchill compiled a list of rib-cracking tongue slips various ethnic communities in Kenya make and they are quite the hoot! Read them here.

#7. DJ Kalonje seems to have landed it in the big leagues after 1FM opened the doors for him. Read about his big break and more here.

#8. Safaricom has launched a new campained called “Naweza” and it has our Jeff Omondi drooling about it. Read about the campaign and their new anthem here.

#9. Watch Kenya’s finest athletes butcher English so mercilessly that it’s hilarious!

#10. Did Gloria Muliro swagger jack an international gospel artist? Her new song has many tongues wagging about her possible theft of this song and Mista Majani delves into that here.

This Dedication To Vera Sidika Already Has 550,000 Hits On YouTube!

Vera Sidika the buxom buttocked beauty recently got intouch with the team and alerted them to the existence of a song by Ghana’s D-Black. She claims the song was a dedication to her and Roxxie… And no offense to Bright Gameli but i have never been a fan of Ghanaian songs but this one is different.

Right off the bat it had me dancing in the office. The track is called “Vera” and is about D-Black hassling to get Vera’s love but she is busy chasing the finer things in life and ending up in other men’s beds as a result.

As the video plays on, his pals laugh at him cautioning him that love next time he should open his eyes up and “blur am”! Cos this girl is in everyone’s bed and only he doesn’t know the truth cause he’s blinded.

Check out the dedication here:

Kenzo: “Bassil Is A Miguna”

Just a couple of weeks after releasing the video for the joint, “Matatu”, Kenzo has come under fire for allegedly stealing the song. The song was allegedly an original version and composure of Bassil an artist who is currently signed by the record label Evolution Media and Sound Limited.

Apparently Bassil had composed and written down this song while he was still working with Tuff Shutters Crew (remember the artist that Kenzo incorporated in his song’s video, K-mess, is a member of Tuff Shutters Crew). Bassil claimed to be in possession of the rights to the song in its whole version from the Music Copyright Society of Kenya as he had registered it.

Here are the two songs in question:

Bassil’s “Matatu”

 {youtube}_eHwROD2nvg{/youtube}

and Kenzo ‘s “Matatu,” ft. K-Mess

{youtube}dWzwQEE3yLQ{/youtube}

Now Kenzo has given his opinion on the whole matter, saying “Huyo Bassil ni Miguna,” implying that he is like Miguna Miguna, who early last year came out with loose allegations agains Raila Odinga.

Kenzo iterates that the song by Bassil was only a demo, while his is a fully-mastered track. He says that he has no time for Bassil’s idle publicity, and is on his hustle promoting the new song, which is hitting the charts right now.

Oh My Lord! An Emaciated Samuel Kivuitu Surfaces On KTN! This is So Sad!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when i saw the sorry state Samuel Kivuitu is in! I couldn’t believe that he was the man incharge of ECK just a few years ago!

I can understand that he has cancer but i never in my wildest dreams believed that chemotherapy and radiotherapy had such an effect on people. You will please excuse this short article believe i am at a loss for words!

Here he is:

The Jazz Bar gets invaded this Friday

This Friday will be one that The Jazz Bar and its revellers’ will never forget. It will be a night that will always give them a reason and strength to continue with their lives for it will be… THE INVASION!

Guess which Kenyan artiste has been chosen to perform at the Africa Cup of Nations Finals?

It is one thing to be famous and acknowledged in your country, and it is totally another to be acknowledged and even respected all over a continent.

Being selected to perform for the Africa Cup Of Nations Finals is no small task, nor can it be issued to just any artiste. No, my dear friend. This raises the artiste’s stats and success even higher than it already would be at.

So, I don’t know what Kenyan artiste’s name is lingering in your mind right now, but if it is Muthoni Drummer Queen, then you are spot on.

Just an hour ago, Muthoni DQ let her fans know about her latest achievement through a post on her facebook wall.

Her music says it all, the uniqueness she brings into the Kenyan music industry is obviously and clearly appreciated by more than just Kenyans. As her business (Blankets and Wine) seems to be booming, so does her music career. Splendid Muthoni!

This is good news not just for the Drummer Queen, but also for us as Kenyans. Congratulations MDQ!

Something to Ponder On From Caroline Mutoko

As the elections draw closer by the day, most celebs are taking the initiative of reminding Kenyans about the importance of maintaining peace in during and after the polls. Already, the likes of Adhyambo Odera and even the US president, Barack Obama, who has Kenyan roots have urged Kenyans to be tolerant of each other during this period. In the same manner, Kiss 100’s Caroline Mutoko has added her voice in admonishing Kenyans. Take a look;

Everytime I see us pushing the tribal envelope, refusing to call our preferred politicians to order and going to great lengths to abuse and hurt eachother – I wonder if we have contemplated what happens if we have a re-run of the violence that marked our elections in 2007.

I’m looking out for ME and those I love first:

Quarter 1 of this year is gone – my clients, my friends & colleagues in the sales profession are not doing well – don’t know about you, but we can’t lose quarter 2.

A deadlock of any kind, violence, instability of any kind – will mean that my friends & Colleagues who have jobs in sales, creative, admin, service, etc – will lose their jobs. Employers keep “essential staff” in any organisation when things are thick …that means a good chunk of us will go home.

Schools will stay closed longer – we have children who are candidates this year – can they really sit for two months at home?

If we are not operational as a country, good and services can’t move – what happens to the prices of those goods and services. What happens when we can’t access those necessary or essential goods and services?

Think about it – add to my list as relates to you, your life and your family. Look back to 2007/8. Do you really want to go back there?

Make it personal.
Politicians come and go – Kenya is a constant.

Kenya is about US – me and you.
..and remember, it’s now a fact, the problem with Kenya isn’t the politicians, it’s us.

Nice Githinji to Host Africa’s First High School Stand-up Comedy Show

Last time Nice Githinji was in the news it was about her successful weight loss attempt. Now, she is the host of what is being described as Africa’s first stand up comedy show for high school students.

The award winning actress told actors.co.ke on her new NTV gig as the host of Breaktime, “It’s a stand-up family comedy show for high schools. The first ever in Africa actually. We go around schools, get some of their best comedians to show case their talent and the school picks the winner.”

She adds, “The main aim of Breaktime show is to show students that the only difference between them and any other successful persons in the society is not the school they went to or how successful their parents are but how determined they are to make something out of themselves.”

She further explains how the show will work: “To prove this point, every week we bring an alumni of the school we’re in and do a short interview. We’ve had the likes of Ekko Dydda and Gidi Gidi as guests. Plus, at the end of this term, we’ll pick all the winners and do a zonal competition awarding overall winners with scholarships and mentoring programmes among other things.”

Mohamed Ali aka Ras Moha to host Bob Marley’s Birthday party. Yes, the one and only Mohamed Ali

I was as shocked as you probably are right now when I first saw this poster. Come to think of it, I have always heard of a Muhamed Ali radio presenter hosting a reggae show at Radio Maisha, but never thought, not for a second, that it could be the same Muhamed Ali from KTN. Not even in my wildest dreams.

Turns out Muhamed Ali is not only a high rated investigative journalist, but also a die hard reggae roots fanatic, deep into Rasta and what not. Yes Iyah!… yeah, I just said that out loud!

For those of you that don’t know, today (6th of February) is the late Bob Marley’s birthday and everyone around the world is celebrating it for the entire week. What better way to pay respect and tribute to a fallen hero and legend.

Blackslate Family and Radio Maisha Maisha will be hosting a huge party commemorating Nester’s birthday, but on the 8th of February (this Friday) at the Simba Wells in Makuti.

MCs of the night will be the one and only Ras Moha (Mohamed Ali) and The Bishop, with deejays Patiz and Merciless on the decks.

Entry, Sh. 200 before 11PM.

Party starts at 7PM and goes on till dawn.

Nameless to perform alongside Jamaica’s Chris Martin next week

Nameless is making huge strides in the music industry indeed. After performing in multiple US States through out his musical career, Nameless is still just getting warmed up.

When Kenyans abroad look for some good Kenyan entertainment, they always come back fishing for the old school Kenyan artistes. The kind that they left way back when they flew out. Nameless just happens to be one of the biggest Kenyan music old school names around and also one of the most sought after Kenyan performers by the Diaspora event organisers.

The Las Vegas Sevens after party which will be going down this Friday will see one of Jamaica’s greatest dancehall and reggae artiste, Chris Martin grace the all Kenyan bar /restaurant in Vegas called ‘Monte Carlo Hotel’ for an exclusive performance for his dear Kenyan fans.

Nameless will be performing here for the first time ever alongside this greatly celebrated Jamaican artiste through out the night.

For those who will be within the vicinity, do not miss this concert.

“Wakenya nawapenda sana,” Chris Martin addresses Kenyans (video)

So, currently the Kenyan rugby team is doing extremely well. Believe it or not, we are actually number two worldwide, right after New Zealand.

The Rugby Sevens has never failed to pave way for what usually goes down as the epitome of partying. Every rugby game after party is worth the imminent headache that follows the morning after. The Las Vegas Sevens on Friday will be an epic, no doubt, especially for the Kenyans.

In the exclusive all Kenyan bar in Vegas, Monte Carlo Hotel and Pub, Jamaica’s lover boy Chris Martin will be performing live for the Kenyans who will be attending the Sevens.

With the love that most Jamaican artistes have for Kenya (probably because of the great reception they get when they visit the country), you know Chris Martin had to drop a special announcement for the Kenyan massive that will be attending the concert.

What’s even better about this announcement straight from Chris, is the fact that he even puts in some little Swahili in it. Man, I am impressed.

Check out the video.

Hot Music Alert: Uneek & Nessa’s Pro’voke-produced Sexy Single

Uneek is consistently lethal on the mic as we have seen from his previous tracks like Smokin’ Like A Rasta, Smoking On That Sour (yes, a lot of his music is about ‘herbal remedies’) and Nai Nights, which was my favourite hip hop song by a local artiste last year.

The artiste who topped Ghafla!’s Five Artistes to Watch in 2013 list promised some new stuff this year with his new producer, Kevin Pro’voke. Except some brilliance from the two craftsmen, who are putting out some of the most exciting works in the industry right now.

On All I Want, the rapper features another perrenial Pro’voke collaborator, Nessa, who has also recently dipped into production under ‘Voke himself. The sexy track continues with the Uneek’s smooth flow and Nessa’s R&B hums giving it that ’90s feel. Check it out below.

Former Buzz Editor Hits Out at Kenyans on Social Media

Having observed for some time the frenzy going on in the Kenyan social media scene about the current political inclinations (CORD and Jubilee), former Buzz editor, Adhyambo Odera, has expressed her displeasure in the manner in which Kenyans are handling the matter.

Specifically hitting out at members of the Luo and Kikuyu communities on social media, Adhyambo reminded them that Kenya is not about a single tribe and that individuals from the two communities cannot polarize the nation.

Here’s her opinion;

I am disgusted by intolerant Luos and Kikuyus on social media. Who do you think you are? Why do you think Kenya belongs only to you? There are 43 tribes in Kenya and yet you two want to hog every available platform to chest thump and engage in endless bouts of verbal diarrhoea. Mara CORD this, Jubilee that. UK this RAO that.WTF? Mshindwe kabisa, Kenya is a great nation, and if Luos and Kikuyus want to bring it to its knees then it is time the rest of the tribes stood up against these two feuding brothers….Eish!

Avril set to release the video to her latest hit song, ‘Hakuna Yule’

You must know this song by now. After all, you (the fan) contributed a huge deal to the naming of the track.

When beautiful and sexy singer Avril launched her latest track, which was then nameless, it was hardly believable that she would actually launch an un-named track.

Thing is, she wanted her fans to practically participate in naming of her song, and this was done through social media (both facebook and twitter).

After a week or so after the release of the track, the decision on the title was finally made. ‘Hakuna Yule’ grabbed the most votes and so it was titled.

With the love that the song is getting, Avril has now finished shooting the video and is about to launch it in a few days’ time.

I for one, just can’t wait for this one.

Rise & Dance Against Sexual Violence at Uhuru Park

The One Billion Rising Music & Dance Event takes place on Thursday, 14th February between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at Uhuru Park.

One in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime, that makes one billion women. Read about Kiss FM‘s Adelle Onyango‘s rape ordeal here. In Nairobi, a dance and activism event by COVAW (Coalition On Violence Against Women) has been organized to raise awareness about this statistic. Rise and join the initiative on a music and dance event.

According to the UN’s World Health Organization between 15 to 71% of women aged between 15 and 49 years reported physical and/or sexual violence by an intimate partner at some point in their lives.

This Is Where The Party Will Be At On Thursday!

Party people! Uncle Chim Tuna is back with a guide to where the party will be at tomorrow.

Last week i challenged you to come out to Changes so we can see how accurate my praise of the joint is. Well, i have pictures and footage of that coming up real soon -in a couple of hours actually. But i was impressed that the like of Ian Mugoya and Nick Mutuma and Shappaman came out to see what all the hype was about.

And if indeed you are a party animal worth the label, you know exactly where the party this and every other Thursday is at: Platinum Thursdays at Changes! On the decks, the mercurial DJ Kaytrixx will be spinning the vinyl and i guarantee that he will bring you to your feet!

I hear you asking, “What about the drinks my good man?”, well, on Thursday if you spend 400/- you’ll get 3 beers. Johnie Walker, Tequila and Vodka a tot go at 100/= all night! And if that isn’t your poison, Zappa is sold at @ 50/- a shot.

Set it on your reminder, notarize it in your diary and do whatever you feel is necessary for you to remember to come out to Changes and experience Platinum Thursdays for yourself.

RIB CRACKING: Churchil compiles list of hilarious tongue-slips by the Kenyan ethnic groups

You may be familiar with some of them, especially if you are a facebook zombie.

They say the pronunciation of a word depends on the ethnic group of your teacher, but let’s just be real, it all goes down to the ethnic roots. It doesn’t matter if your teacher was Kamau or Chebet. The diversity is what makes Kenyan all the more beautiful, even down to our dialogue.

Kenya’s funniest man, Churchil Ndambuki compiled some of the funny observations that may bring about confusion in some parts of Kenya.

Check this out.

1. Marijuana is a drug but to Kikuyus, it also means ‘They know each other’

2. The Hobbit is a movie but to the Kambas, it is a chewing gum

3. Federer is a tennis player but to Kikuyus, it also means Flag

4. Yana is a tyre brand but to Kambas its Yesterday.

5. Ukali means harshness but to Luhyas its food {ugali}

6. Sota is being broke but to the Luhyas its a beverage

7. Do this is English but to Kiuks it means many motorbikes {duthis}

8. Mascara is a make-up, but to Luhyas is cigarettes.

9. Paper is a writing material but to the Kisii its to carry {beba}

10. Parrot to Luhyas is not only a bird, but a thing that we will use
on March 4th election {ballot}

11. Chuka may be a place in Meru but in Nyeri it also means ‘to alight’

12. Joyce is not only a female name to Kalenjins its an option {choice}

13. Erection could mean something different to all of us,but to Kyuks ni Uchaguzi.

Tuesday, Safaricom released its latest TV commercial dubbed “Niko Na Safaricom, Naweza” that takes in the beauty of Kenya and the grace of its people. Watching this video you’ll agree that it’s one of the best commercials not just of a great camera work but also a great song that reminds us that we are capable of doing anything we set out to do.

According to Safaricom, theirs is more than just providing services and racking in huge profits but also capturing the true Kenyan spirit and beauty. Watch the amazing commercial below;

Former TPF Contestant, Steve, Release New Track Inspired by His Mercedes

After a long silence, TPF4 contestant and finalist Steve Nyabwa is back in the music scene. He has just released a brand new single called Songa Mbele.

The song was written and produced by Dan Aceda. Steve is glad to be back in the game and is gushing about the opportunity to work with the Crown Prince of Benga and is quite happy with the song. Check out his previous track here.

Dan ‘Chizi’ Aceda says, “Steve drives a Mercedes Benz you know plus he is a successful businessman. And so as I wrote the song all I wanted to do was to get a sound that reflected his personality. He is a man who knows what he wants and goes ahead to get it. I hope this song can convey that. It is a great honour to work with him and I hope we continue working together.”

The song is written in undeniable Crown Prince of Benga style and is escorted by sweet and sensual guitars that were played by the legendary Kenyan musician, Dave Otieno. Listen to the song below

The Guys Who Brought You Miguna Miguna’s “Come Baby Come” Have Up’d Their Game

They shot into the entertainment scene with the composition of Miguna Miguna’s “Come Baby Come” and Raila’s response to Miguna x2 and since then they have strived to keep their star shining brighter. And someone has recognized their efforts because starting Monday, the group got a superior platform to showcase their work.

This show started last night and their original song with the politicians was and will be played at the end of the show.
