Official Elections Portal Launched

With just 10 days to go before the general elections, Kenyans will be searching news concerning the same. Realizing this, Eziki TV’s web team launched an official elections site; www.electionkenya.co.ke which seeks to bring to one place all Kenyan Election news updates as covered by various media Houses.

Eziki’s mission is to help you find and enjoy the best of Africa’s premium content when, where and how you want it; and that’s what the site will be doing. Instead of moving from one newspaper to the other, the portal converges the different papers together, though there is always a link to the source station.

Together with the portal, Eziki also followed it up with a Twitter account; @Elections4Kenya which will be giving live feed on election news.

Eric Wainaina And Suzzanna Owiyo Appointed UNEP Goodwill Ambassadors

Ladies and gentlemen, i’m proud to announce that Eric Wainaina and Suzzanna Owiyo have been appointed Goodwill ambassadors by UNEP! And all this comes after one blogger, Robert Alai took shots at Eric Wainaina… Revenge is indeed a dish best served at the table of your success! It would seem Eric got the last laugh afterall.

And here’s the press release sent by UNEP to confirm the same:

UNEP Appoints Singing Sensations Eric Wainaina and Suzanna Owiyo as Kenyan Goodwill Ambassadors

NAIROBI, Kenya, February 21, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ – Two of Kenya’s biggest singing stars, Eric Wainaina and Suzanna Owiyo, today pledged to use their music and high profiles to ignite positive environmental action as they were designated National Goodwill Ambassadors for the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

The inspirational figures have a long history of activism in Kenya, between them tackling issues such as drugs, peace, youth education and women’s rights.

Mr. Wainaina, whose 2001 debut album Sawa Sawa thrust him onto the Kenyan and international stage, will use his influence with children and youth to generate support and publicity for UNEP’s messages and goals.

Ms. Owiyo, whose career has blossomed since winning the ‘Most Promising Female Artist’ category in Kenya’s 2003 Kisima Music Awards, will build on her track record in engaging women in social issues to bring home the environmental message.

“There is no more powerful medium than music for reaching out to all levels of society, and I am honoured to be in a position to use my songs to spark wider environmental activism in East Africa,” said Mr. Wainaina.

The acclaimed singers will support a host of UNEP initiatives, including World Environment Day, UNEP’s campaign to reduce food waste – known as Think.Eat.Save. Reduce Your Foodprint – and efforts to lower the demand for illegal wildlife products that is driving a spike in elephant and rhino poaching in East Africa.

They will focus largely on issues that are of particular or critical relevance to Kenya and the wider region, and will take part in awareness-raising campaigns and communication and education initiatives.

Both singers have also agreed to write a song to mark the milestone of a strengthened and upgraded UNEP. The UN General Assembly in December passed a resolution, raised at the request of world leaders at Rio+20, to give UNEP universal membership and work towards increased resources.

UNEP’s Governing Council is meeting for the first time in Nairobi this week under the expanded membership to define the way forward.

“This is an exciting time to get involved with UNEP as it looks forward to a stronger future at the heart of the environment,” said Ms. Owiyo. “Musicians have a responsibility to inform and inspire, as well as entertain, and I intend to use my role as Goodwill Ambassador to bring home the need for environmental action to my fans.”

Mr. Wainaina and Ms. Owiyo have also penned songs to celebrate UNEP’s new upgraded status, which now allows all UN member states also to be members of UNEP’s governing council. Mr. Wainaina’s track is entitled Hello Moon, while Ms. Owiyo has written a song called Be Counted.

“Now that UNEP has been strengthened, Nairobi is in many ways the environmental capital of world, so we must do everything within our power to boost the already strong culture of environmental awareness in Kenya and outside its borders,” said Nick Nuttall, UNEP Spokesperson and Director of Communications. “These respected and socially conscious artists will be pivotal in achieving this goal, and we are privileged to add them to our roster of Goodwill Ambassadors.”

How Truth Meter Was Born

Citizen TV’s premier political satire show, Truth Meter, has grown in leaps and bounds in just three years. So popular is Truth Meter that it’s giving NTV’s a run for its cash. But just how was it born?

Speaking to CareerPoint recently, Willis Raburu, the brains behind Truth Meter, explains that after who were known as “the Ocampo six” went to Hague for the first time, they had a major rally at Uhuru park and he did a story on “The Lies at Uhuru Park.” His boss and Royal Media Services’ MD, Wachira Waruru, suggested that the piece could be done weekly and that marked the beginning of Truth Meter.

Inspired and motivated by the Editorial Director in planning and executing the idea, Willis was later allowed to be creative and this made him include music and animation in the political stories to bring out the satire.

Asked how he manages to get ideas for the weekly show, Willis attributes it all to teamwork. Although he has his own ideas, he incorporates those of his colleagues at work to make the show what it is.

Prezzo Back In Kenya After Being With Goldie’s Family

Prezzo is back in the country after being with Goldie’s family to console and generally be with them in this trying time.

Prezzo had flown out last week on February 14 in anticipation of a sweet Valentine date with Goldie Harvey who unfortunately died shortly before his flight could land in Lagos.

Prezzo arrived in Nairobi on Wednesday night.

And to answer the question of whether or not he was chased away by Goldie’s family like a nkita; no he wasn’t. According to Daily Nation who quoted an anonymous source, the burial plans have not been finalised yet, so there was no need for Prezzo to stay there.

And unlike Andrew Harvey, Goldie’s husband, Prezzo said, “I need to rest for the time being and I’m not ready for any interviews. I will inform all of you when I’m ready for that,” Prezzo said.

Kenya Unveils the First Officially Authorized Graffiti Train in Africa

The illegality of graffiti is unquestionable but a Kenyan company is giving it a chance for the sake of peace.

The Rift Valley Railways has granted group of Kenyan graffiti artistes permission to paint one of their trains. The 10-car engine which will go through one of the most affected areas during the post-election violence, Kibera, will be emblazoned with images to promote peace.

Said to be “the first train in Africa with officially authorized graffiti,” it’s probably a necessity for the railways service provider. The company was deeply affected during the post election chaos after they became the victims of one of the most significant acts of rebellion during the period when their tracks were uprooted by protesters.

Some of the artistes involved in the project includes Bankslave (who actually lives in Kibera), Swift and Uhuru B among others. The project is organized by Kibera Walls for Peace, a brainchild of artist and educator, Joel Bergner.

In the recent past, activists have taken to graffiti to advance their cause like Boniface Mwangi did for his Mavulture campaign, an effort that saw him named as a 2012 laureate of the Prince Klaus Fund.

Goldie’s Last Interview

Just a week before Goldie’s death, the MTV Base Website posted an interview with the singer, which might just have been her last. The singer and Big Brother Africa contestant’s death a week ago, triggered shock and drama.

Read through the whole interview below.

“MTV Base: What should we expect from your new album?

Goldie: Basically, it’s tagged the ‘African invasion’ album and I’m seeking to work with ten of the top African acts across the continent. We have the three “naughty” singles which are the first singles to drop off the album and they are “Miliki” featuring Navio from Uganda, “Give It To Me” featuring J. Martins from Nigeria and “Skibobo” featuring A.Y. from Tanzania. I tagged those “naughty” singles because they are very suggestive and playful.

MTV Base: Define “suggestive and playful.”

Goldie: [laughs] When you listen to the songs and watch the videos, you will understand! Naughty…

MTV Base: OK… I think people understand what “naughty” means! So what will make this album different from your other albums apart from it having artists from all over Africa?

Goldie: Well, I actually think that’s what will make it different. I am going all over Africa so I’m not just in my own bubble. I make sure that each time I record with these artistes I go to their own country. I went to Tanzania to record. I went to Uganda to record. I actually went to South Africa to record with Bonganie Fassie, but that one didn’t make the “naughty singles” because it wasn’t naughty. [laughs]

MTV Base: Tell us about your fashion/ fashion sense.

Goldie: Umm… Well, everything about me is naughty and a bit quirky. But umm… still provocative. Let’s use that word: provocative. I think that is how I will describe my fashion sense. It will leave you talking. Good, bad: you will speak about it.

MTV Base: Ooh, we like that! “Good, bad: you will speak about it.” So what exactly do you have for your fans in terms of fashion over the next year?

Goldie: Uhh… We’re going for a more girl-next-door appeal this time. Because of the tag “African invasion” album, we’re trying to go a little less edgy and more provocatively sexy instead of the edgy and bizarre. I’m going more with the “OK, I can rock that.”

MTV Base: From the three “naughty” singles, which is your favourite?

Goldie: “Miliki” with Navio from Uganda.

MTV Base: Why?

Goldie: Because Navio is very hot. [laughs]. He’s a dope rapper. The song can put you in the mood. If I wake up in the morning and listen to that song, I feel sexy instantly.

MTV Base: So you feel “sexy in the morning”?

Goldie: Yes, when I listen to “Miliki”.

MTV Base: Define “I feel sexy in the morning”.

Goldie: It means that I can go out there and take on the world. You know when you feel sexy, you feel in control. You feel that no-one can touch you unless you want to be touched and you just feel like there’s something about you that people around you want to be a part of.

MTV Base: We like that “no one can touch you unless you want to be touched” bit. Is there anything else in particular that you want your fans to know concerning yourself, your music and your fashion?

Goldie: Well, you can follow me on Twitter @goldieharvey or like my Facebook page. That’s it really.

MTV Base: OK, here’s our last question. If you were going to compare yourself to an international artist, who would it be and why?

Goldie: It’s really, really crazy. I can’t see myself doing that. The lines have been blurred so much that I’m not similar to any one artist. I can’t compare myself to anyone because there is now so much that I can do. I mean, I love Madonna and when I did “Jawo Jawo” a lot of people compared me to her because she did a song called “Material Girl”. ‘Til today, they actually still call me “Jawo Jawo” but I can actually be a lot more than that.

MTV Base: Is there anything about you that you want people to know about you that you think they don’t know, especially when it comes to your music?

Goldie: [sighs] Let’s see… When I’m on stage, I like to dramatize my songs. I like to create little movies. I don’t want to just come on stage and perform, I prefer to have little stage plays. When you come to a show and watch me, you are actually seeing a live representation of what my music meant to me while I was recording it.

MTV Base: Alright, thank you very much.

Goldie: [laughs] I hope you got something!

We sure did: thanks again Goldie!”

Notorious DJ Conman Apprehended

They say a thief’s days are numbered but for one James Kiige, his fate was sealed. Having conned a number of deejays in Eldoret, the suspect has been slippery every time going scot-free whenever he ripped off a deejay.

According to DJ Lemah of Scratch Extreme Events, Kiige was apprehended as he tried conning DJ Boyie of Spree Club, Eldoret. Already the suspect had swindled DJ Ruff and DJ Lemah their only decks, a laptop, a mixer, amplifier and speakers worth Sh500,000, the only ones they’ve had for the past two years.

Described as swift and crafty, Kiige was spotted in Eldoret by DJ Ruff who quickly alerted the police who trailed him to DJ Boyie’s residence where he was found packing his (DJ Boyie’s) equipment in his car.

Posing as a State House official, Kiige is said to have been approaching those hiring out the equipment claiming they were required at State House Nakuru for a presidential function. After paying for a small deposit, he would insist on travelling with one person but midway through the trip, he would enter a shopping centre and ask you to alight from the vehicle and buy something. When you return, you find him gone with your equipment.

He confessed to his crimes and admitted to selling a complete DJ decks at a paltry Sh30,000 as compared to the original price of Sh200,000.

This comes just days after DJ Kamjo lost his car and expensive deejay equipment in a robbery.

Larry Asego’s Second Meeting With Neighbours Finally Takes Off

After writing a hilarious letter to his boss requesting to use his office for a party, Larry Asego went on to hold a meeting to address his mischievous neighbours and we thought that was the end of it. However, it’s now apparent that the neighbours developed a new oddity especially after Valentine’s Day and the Presidential debate, and being a good neighbor he is, Larry called for a meeting to resolve these issues.

ONE Africa pays tribute to Goldie (video)

When Prezzo unfortunately lost the ultimate Big Brother Africa first prize, he didn’t walk out of the house empty handed.

He was assigned to be ONE Africa’s ambassador and he immediately got started on the work.

ONE Africa was also closely working with Goldie and Prezzo brought her along in almost all his visits to the ONE Africa headquarters in Washington DC.

Goldie was family to ONE Africa as is every other African. The love and respect they had for the late African Queen and diva has been expressed in a tribute, done by ONE Africa’s Wangui Muchiri. Read below.

Beautiful. Sophisticated. Elegant. Intelligent. Creative. Bold. But above all, humble.

I remember meeting Goldie for the first time right after the 2012 Big Brother Africa show had concluded. I had gone to drop both Prezzo and Goldie to meet Prezzo’s Mum’s at her flat in Sandton, Johannesburg, to say hello.

When Goldie met Prezzo’s mum, she moved from being a sophisticated posh girl, to her knees to show respect and acknowledge being in the presence of someone she highly regarded. While this is traditional in many African cultures, it is not common practice. We all fell in love with her immediately.

We met a few more times after that, in South Africa and the United States. I personally admired how Goldie had mastered the art of being a modern African woman. She was proudly Nigerian, no doubt, yet the pop culture world she had embraced, had done nothing to erode her African values.

Goldie had a naturally nurturing nature, and she took care of those she cared about without a second thought. After spending a few days with her, you could tell this was a God fearing, well bred girl, and her future had the sky as the limit.

Goldie’s unexpected death is shocking. Africa has been robbed of a lady full of passion and a relentless spirit to change her own world, and the world of those who live in it for the better.

Last year, Goldie recorded this video for ONE. In it she expresses why the fight against HIV and AIDS starts with her. Goldie’s generosity lives on, May God Rest Her Soul in Eternal Peace.

Final Love Letter To Goldie

There is so much drama that seems to have clouded the wonderful things that Goldie did when alive. However, that has not stopped some of her friends, fellow artists and fans from paying their tribute to the fallen songstress.

Moments ago, leading entertainer in Nigeria, Wale Applause, wrote a deep message as a tribute to Goldie. Take a look;

You defined hustle, stood so firm for what you believed in, your own
number one fan, ever faithful to the game. So strong, so bold,
enterprising, unique, hardworking, energetic, you were real, you were
GOLDIE.
A very rare gem. Although not loved by many during your life time, yet
we almost all feel the pain of your loss, goes to show how much of an
impact you made on us all. You would honour any invite, you were
friendly and kind in your own little way, for a long time you will
linger on in our minds all the way.
It took me a while to finally put pen to paper, because the news of
your death still worries my soul.
It hurt so deep on that gloomy evening of St. Valentine’s Day when the
news went viral that you have gone to the world beyond. Your faithfuls
argued the Rumour, thought it was another craft of the wicked, even
your manager could not believe his ears, he argued with death, but
after a while it dawned on us all that who are we to question God.
That evening when love was in the air, you took that all away, left
tears in our eyes, worries in our hearts, how we wished we could bring
you back, turn back the hands of time.
For the first time ever, I was moved by death. The thought of the
death of a young hardworking and enterprising lady who just saw the
glamorous Grammy awards days back clouded my hearts. Only if money
could bring you back, I can’t estimate how wealthy death would be
right now, or only if tears could return you in peace, death will be
all soaked up, yet again the question who are we to question God?
You made your mark, left your writing in the sand of time. You indeed
left a vacuum. Who will now say your name, or how do you expect us to
Skibobo without you? I guess you should have thought about all of
these before leaving for the great beyond. The sight of your music
videos used to bring me joy, now it brings back sad memories of how
you have indeed left us all alone.
Who would have thought that I’ll be writing this about you anytime
now, an unfair music review would have been better.
Now it hurts so deep that you are gone. You should have given us a
notice. You have left a hole in my heart, our own Lady gaga. You
always did not want us to touch your body, now indeed we can’t.
To everyone who condoled, God sees the genuinty and in genuinety of our hearts.
Just in case you get to read this, GOLDIE, I would want you to know
you did the unfair. Just about time we were beginning to enjoy you
again, you turned off the light. So sad! But yet again, who are we to
question God?
The populace questioned your cause of death, the doctors examined your
body to know, but to what end? Will that bring you back? Definitely
not! GOLDIE rest on in the bosom of our Lord. Till we all meet to part
no more.

Yet another hilarious BUSTED session by Ciku Muiruri

You know all that hilarious and unbelievable incidents you see in movies about certain couples that make you wonder what you would do if you would end up being the victim? That stuff actually happens and the sorry individuals that have gone through it here in Kenya, have done it live on radio.

I can’t even begin to count the number of episodes in which Classic FM’s Ciku Muiruri has uncovered cheating spouses. Some of the events are comical while some are just down right horror!

This particular one left me in stitches. This unfaithful Kamba guy has just been caught by his wife live on radio, after being punk’d by Ciku Muiruri. How the cheating husband successfully managed to spin the situation around and make it seem like he was the victim, still amuses me.

Here, have a piece of this humerous drama below.

DRAMA! Goldie’s Former Bestfriend Threatens To Sue Goldie’s Husband!

Damn! This poor chap can’t seem to catch a break! First he allows Goldie his lawfully wedded wife to keep their marriage secret to further her career, then she meets Prezzo in the BBA house. then tragedy hits his household and she dies. And he gets insecure about Prezzo and bans him from the funeral. Then he gets denied a visa to his own wife’s funeral. And now this!

Ifeoma, the woman who used to be Goldie’s bestfriend before she claims that Goldie “stole” her husband (Andrew Harvey) is suing the poor chap. What for you ask? Well, apparently, she isn’t too pleased about some of his utterances nor about how he’s been carrying himself with regard to his first family.

In a Facebook post (seriously? Why would you open up your family’s private life to such scrutiny and use Facebook as a medium?) she recently said that she was going to seek legal redress and she has already instructed her lawyers on the same.

<The unfortunate daughter who is caught up in all this drama. It’s said that the innocent suffer more!>

Woi! hell hath no fury indeed! It seems Solomon was indeed infinitely wise when he wrote this down!

Big Pin Unveils Music Scratch Cards

One of Kenya’s urban music pioneers, Big Pin, has unveiled his Mdundo scratch cards.

The musician burst into the scene with an E-Sir collaboration (Huu Mwaka) and solidified his place in the industry with his self-titled release. New Twist in the Goldie Saga As Nigeria Denies Her Husband A Visa! He Might Miss Her Funeral!

Ladies and gentlemen, news just in is that the late Goldie’s husband has been denied a visa by the nigerian High Commision in England!

This development might see him miss her funeral. How truly uhm… sad… I think… hopefully this means that Prezzo will be allowed to attend the funeral as the one stumbling block might have been removed.

My cousin called and sent me the heads up that Andrew Harvey was denied the visa 2 days ago for inelligibility. Apparently, the Nigerian High Commission does not consider him and his predicament worth granting a visa. Then again, all the drama aside, he should be allowed to be by his wife as she is laid to rest.

I just pray for her family and Prezzo who are caught up in this nightmare of a situation.

Peter Kenneth Reveals How He Funds His Campaigns

With the campaigns on top gear, politicians seem to be outdoing each other at who is splashing the most cash on their campaign machinery. Just the other day we saw Jubilee parade over 10 branded luxury cars and light aircraft and choppers and that must sure cost a fortune.

The money used for the campaigns has raised questions about their source with both NARC Kenya and KNC presidential candidates alleging that some of the contenders were using public coffers to finance their campaigns during the first presidential debate. Realizing how grave this issue is, the mainstream church leaders, Christian media and the National broadcaster in conjunction with Daystar University tabled this as one of the issues to be tackled by the presidential aspirants during their presidential debate, Tuesday night.

Among the aspirants present was KNC’s Peter Kenneth. Taken to task about the source of his campaign money, PK lucidly accounted for every cent received for his campaign revealing that all his funding came from well-wishers as a result of good networking over the years. So far at a whopping KShs.300,000,000 PK also divulged that the highest donor gave KShs.1,000,000.

He also tackled the question of drug abuse control, the heated land debate, IDP resettlement, labour laws and accountability. In his closing remarks, Peter Kenneth said, “Our decisions will determine our next years, I’m the solution.”

Check Out Ni kama Ndrama Ni kama Vindeo Audio Teaser

Jose the Witnesser is the man of the moment, thanks to his popular phrase, “ni kama ndrama ni kama vindeo”. Having burst into the limelight the Bonoko way, Jose is proving to be more than just an instant celeb.

He was hosted on the Churchill Show where he divulged his ambition to release a song and a fortnight down the line, we are beginning to witness (no pun intended) signs of a song. One John Gitau AKA Johny Pablo has created a crunk beat and inserted Jose’s words to make a song.

Here are the lyrics;

Okay Mi ni Mkaaji wa Kasalani alea ,nakaanga Taras hapa juu. So I’ve witnessed some cases that lobbers are coming and just kidnapping our everything, they are just hustling our daily lives they just coming and kidnapping everything in our pocket. First, nimeshuhudia iyo issue ,about, they were coming, thieves were coming in car, haka kagari kadogo walikuwa wanakuja, maaskari nao walikuwa nyuma. so walikuwa wezi kwa gari,me i was there just in pale kwa car wash I witnessed ni kama ndrama kama vindio!

Love from the fans

Oh my God! You wouldn’t believe half of the messages we receive from Ghafla’s publics even if we shared all of them with you.

Yes, we spend most of our time on the articles that keep you informed, but it is entertaining text messages like these, and at times weird calls, that get us laughing through out the day here in the office (apart from some that make us want to re-locate our offices – like the one on the number one spot).

Here are just five of the most hilarious, weird and a little bit scary text messages that people send us.

5. “Hi! Is this Mike Sonko?”

4. “Hi Gloria Muliro! I am one of your fans. I want to know more about your song, ‘Follow You’.”

Dear reader, Ghafla writers post the articles, not the concerned artiste himself/herself.

3. “Hey Ghafla! Please send me the President’s number. We have to talk.”

Seriously?

2. “Could you guys please assist me on how to join the illuminatti?”

This is just how low and desparate some traction-less artistes get in their quest for fame and money. For the last time, WE CAN’T/WON’T HOOK YOU UP WITH THE ILLUMINATTI.

1. “Hi! Are you gay? Please hook me up. I’m interested.”
After freaking out, we replied, “no!”
This is what they sent next,
“I don’t take no for an answer.”

Since that day (18th of January 2013, 3:28PM), we have never felt safe again. Not even in our offices.

Martha Karua Walks Out of COTU Presidential Debate

After the mainstream media organized the first ever presidential debate, the mainstream church leaders, Christian media and the National broadcaster in conjunction with Daystar University immediately followed it up with the first deputy presidential debate and their presidential debate yesterday.

In the same breath, the Central Organization of Trade Unions, COTU (K) organized a similar debate earlier today at the Laico Regency Hotel and invited all the presidential aspirants to outline their plans to create jobs and grow the economy if elected on March 4. However, CORD’s flag bearer, Raila Odinga, sent his apologies and as a substitute sent his running mate, Kalonzo Musyoka to represent him.

However, the Narc Kenya presidential candidate Martha Karua protested the presence of Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka in the presidential debate criticizing the move to invite Kalonzo to the debate and even walked out in what appeared as a protest as the VP rose to the podium to speak.

The Narc Kenya leader’s face appeared irritated immediately Kalonzo arrived and was seen asking the VP not to take a chair among the presidential candidates and instead sit in the audience. Karua even pointed at the audience where her running mate Augustine Lotodo was seated as a way of directing Kalonzo to take a seat there. Nevertheless, the VP proceeded to take the seat reserved for CORD.

She then demanded that Lotodo also sit next to the VP, to which her number two rose from the audience and joined the front table. And it didn’t end there; as Karua made her uneasy conduct known when she rose to speak choosing to start her introductory remarks by expressing disappointment with the organizers.

“When you invite a presidential candidate it should only be presidential candidates and not running mates. If you want to hold a session for running mates, you can do so as a matter of equity and courtesy,” she said adding; “that’s why I have asked my running mate to sit next to the CORD running mate. No offence.”

However, moderators of the forum defended the decision to allow the VP address the forum saying they took cognizance of the powers for a president to delegate to his running mate saying Kalonzo’s presence was legitimate.

After delivering her speech, the former Gichugu MP sat through as her other rivals Paul Muite, James ole Kiyiapi and Mohamed Abduba Dida spoke but immediately and walked out as soon as Kalonzo was invited to address the forum.

She walked straight to the hotel lobby with Lotodo and her security in tow and later refused to comment when the Standard journalist sought to interview her about the incident.

So You All know Peter Kenneth but do you Know His Running Mate?

We all know Peter Kenneth as the presidential candidate running on a platform of achieveable development goals and not just tribe aye? But do you know his runningmate? Well, Team Ghafla would like to introduce you to him!

“Ronald Osumba is a Kenyan national. He was born in August 1979 in Kibera where he also grew up and went to school. He attended school at Olympic Primary School in its hey days as a national academic giant. While at Olympic, he registered a sterling performance which earned him a place at the Starehe Boys’ Centre. At Starehe he was immediately thrust into several leadership positions and continued with his good academic performance that saw him join Moi University to study Business Administration.

Osumba was an active member of the university life and leadership where he exhibited his prowess in the arts, academics and student leadership. For instance, he chaired the Student Electoral Commission in his final year-a difficult and sensitive task that he handled with professionalism and dignity. One of his biggest achievements that still reverberates in the country today was to lead a team that founded the Kenya Model United Nations Universities Chapter in 2001/2002 which has now grown to cover all public and private universities. He served as its First Secretary General and continues to serve in an honorary capacity.

Ronald is married to Vera and they have been blessed with two children. A 4-year old daughter and a 4-month old son.

Ronald has 10 years of experience in the private sector. He has led successful teams in the areas of business development and thought-leadership, brand management, relationship management and financial management. He has previously worked at Co-operative Bank, Impax Business Solutions, and Health Data Systems in senior management roles. He was the Senior Sales Manager for Public Sector at Safaricom Limited immediately preceding his appointment as Peter Kenneth’s running mate in the Eagle Alliance.

As mentioned above, Ronald Osumba has a weight of knowledge and experience in leadership in the private sector. He is also well-versed in national development issues specifically those directly relating to the youth. He is the Chairman of Board in Youth Entrepreneurship and Sustainability (YES) Kenya and a key member of the Managing Committee Starehe Boys’ Centre & School where he also chairs the Old Starehian Society (OSS). At the alumni association he leads and is respected by a host of industry captains, senior government officials, political and community leaders. Ronnie’s forays in public life and service have afforded him an opportunity to experience and understand the daunting challenges of the young people in this country.

Ronnie has overcome all odds to become a person deeply engaged in youth development with a sole aim of inculcating values into young people that model them into leaders who are in touch with challenges in the 21st century. His core values are well-embedded in a philosophy of focus, perseverance and excellence.

His political philosophy is anchored in a belief that strong and accountable leadership does not necessarily emanate from years of sitting in political office but in being able to inspire a majority of the citizens to organize with a common purpose of improving their lives. With this diverse experience, Ronald is very well-equipped to help drive Kenya’s development agenda to the next level.”
