Attention Party People: Changes Platinum Thursday Is Where It’s At Tonight!

Tonight is the night! Changes will be throwing down one of the best parties around Nairobi. Trust me when i say you’ll be hard pressed to find a livelier party!

And why is Platinum Thursday where it’s at? Well, the crowd consists of the grown and sexy. The mature lot; not the “let’s get drunk and punctuate our fights with bouts of vomiting”. The staff is friendly, the service swift. The people fly and the music banging. Allow me to expound:

Kaytrixx the Entertainer will be in the house mixing some of the sickest tunes around. From Afro Pop to House to Electro and hiphop. From New Jack Swing to Kenyan jams, Kaytrixx works them all!

<You can also do some celeb spotting at Changes>

Then there is the red carpet entrance. Trust me when i say that it’ll all be worthwhile. I know you didn’t get all dressed up for nothing… Come off the humble arrogance lad! And especially you lass! At Changes, everyone embraces looking good. Actually, nearly everyone steps out to Changes looking spiffy!

And then, there are the prices. The prices are just right! Omo, no buy beer for 200! Come to Changes and get that your shayo cheap. Get your beer at 135/- per bottle when you buy 3. And that offer lasts till midnight! Then the shisha is also rather economically priced retailing at 600/-.

King Of Mugithi Mike Rua Deported?

If you understand Mike Rua’s lyrics, then you know lewd is an understatement. Some of the things he sings are out of this world, but that has earned him such a serious legion of fans that he globe trotts the way I commute to and from work.

He was recently in Kigali to thrill his loyal fans, I didn’t even know there were Mugithi lovers in Kigali. The things we learn everyday. Read about that here.

Well a fortnight later, he was scheduled to perform In the United Kingdom, but things went sour at Heathrow Airport. According to misterseed.com, a website that is run by Kenyans in Britain, Mike Rua was denied entry on Thursday afternoon 28th March, 2013. The article says, ‘Mike Rua & his Drummer Muhamed will not be performing their Mugiithi UK Easter Tour in Luton and Manchester scheduled for Easter weekend as they have been denied entry to the UK at London’s Heathrow Airport by the UK Border Agency.’

http://lh6.ggpht.com/-UzOZuJDJhLg/S-o9BFLXiOI/AAAAAAAACKM/wYi83jtkTcs/s640/191.JPG

It continues to say that ‘One of the organisers had this to say: “Mike Rua’s entry denial is beyond our control and our appeal could only be made next week Tuesday which of course would be too late. However, the event will still go on in Luton with free admission at Tripple M Foods with Djs Josh Paps and Djcymoh Cy.” the officials confirmed. Rua had a work permit officially given from Kenya but after exchange of words at Heathrow with the immigration officers he was denied entry. According to reliable sources Rua, as it is his usual character displayed a don’t care attitude to the officers. Answering questions without due care whether he would be admitted or not. Rua was overhead commenting: “Kwani nini iko hapa, si baridi tu.” He returned with the evening flight back to Kenya.’

Wow, ni kama ndrama ni kama vindio!

Uhuru Kenyatta Unveils Fifth Radio Station.

Media Max’s K24 has recently gone on a ‘revamping’ spree, and one of their strategies was getting the creme de la creme of the media world in Kenya.

We already told you all the journalists that decamped to K24, if you missed the complete list, see that here. I also told you of the new tv programme by Julie Gichuru that found a home in K24. Read about that here

List of All Journalists Poached By K24

Well today, according to the k24’s website, Media Max which is the parent company to about four radio stations plus K24, announced that they have a new station. Called Mayian Fm, it will be broadcasting in the Maa language. According to the website, Mediamax Executive Director Granton Samboja said this was just the beginning of a multi-pronged strategy. The media max group will be implementing this to expand its reach and capture a wider share of the broadcast and print market.

President Uhuru Kenyatta owns Media Max group owns Kameme FM, Meru FM, Mbaitu FM, and Milele FM. The group also owns K24 and People Newspaper. Well in. For a complete gallery of all the journalists that were ‘poached’ by K24, see here.

Dennis Itumbi Leading The Charge To Get C.I.D To Investigate Hate Speech!

Dennis Itumbi was accused of hate speech. Then in a turn of events, the charges against him were dropped. And in a quick rejoinder, he has decided to explore his legal options against the N.C.I.C but away from that, Dennis Itumbi has taken it upon himself to name and shame the Facebook pages that are participating in hatespeech.

And this is how the lad has decided to go about it:

Dear Kenyan CID, the following groups on social media with thousands of
followers are a threat to the national security: I urge your quick investigations and action…..
1. Kenyans against Uhuruto 2013
2. Nyanza si Kenya
3. Nyanza Republic
4. Cord Effect
5. R.I.P Willy Mutunga
6. Kenyans against IEBC
7. R.I.P Issack Hassan
8. I will never vote again
9. Bunge la Mwananchi
10. Wazimu Mkuu 11. Aany othe page that has antiKenya sentiment and debate that is beyond the border of freedom of speech……. Their post are extremly provocative.

And then there’s this:

Dear CID, following my earlier list My Friends and those who follow this page have requested that the investigation be expanded to the following pages…Kindly consider, this is our collective community policing and self regulation as social media users, the groups include….REST IN PEACE CORD ALLIANCE AND PRESIDENT REJECTED RAILA ODINGA

Over to you C.I.D.

“Media Station CCTV Pays Badly!” Says Top Journalist! That’s Why Everyone…

K24 must really have been stung by Nation Media Group’s Boniface Mwalii’s missive about them running out of money before they could poach Citizen’s graphic design guys. Read about that here. Because according to one Bogonko Bosire, they now have turned their sights on gutting CCTV.

According to Bogonko, CCTV has been paying their staff peanuts and local media houses are circling to get a bite of the action. They have apparently been poaching some of their talent but they now want more. And it should come as no surprise that big money K24 has decided to get themselves a new graphic designer.

Here is what Bogonko Bosire himself a journalist wrote on Facebook:

BREAKING: People have started moving back to local Kenyan media because it’s better paying than the “so called giant CCTV” cannot match up the salaries, so far the people that have left are Mark Masai, Ken Mijungu, Eric Njoka, Terryann Chebet. Some local media are targeting the the camera crew and its is rumoured that one of the best graphic designer is headed to K24, soon, if CCTV doesn’t act now it is going to loose some of the best it has.

Celebrity Line Up For The Pilsner League Of Kings Pool Challenge,

There’s no denying that everytime Pilsner is involved in something, they go hard!! Well they are back and this time the pool challenge is bigger and better!

http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/c0.4.851.315/p851x315/457022_401624379851162_1282309211_o.jpg

According to the press release, they are replicating the experience. Prior to this, the artists who’d performed were Prezzo, Abass Kubaff, Bamboo, Wyre, Juliani, Jua Cali and Mad Trax. The tournament organizers promise after-parties hosted by popular DJ’s of the formerly popular Pilsner DJ Mfalme competition and performances by popular artistes. These are DJ’s Joe Mfalme, Ricky and Nelly who will lead the DJ units in the countrywide tours, alongside already confirmed artistes like Abass Kubaff, Wyre, Bamboo and Jua Cali.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NgvBApYpBd0/TDDkDmdB1yI/AAAAAAAAAhA/59zGuqPUI7I/s400/c92a8d88223c3fc161141c5ab157e10b.jpg

Pilsner Brand Manager Francis Mworia, music will be integrated into the tournament from the regional finals up to the grand finale. He says and I quote, “Pool is one of the few properties that consumers can associate with in their natural setting,” said Mworia. “We want to combine pool and music as it appeals most to our target consumer and bring the Pilsner experience to that many pub outlets.”

http://www.carlthatruth.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Bamboo.jpg

What’s so special about this tournament you ask? The countrywide tournament’s winner automatically represents Kenya to the World Eight ball Championship in UK. It will be hosted in 820 bar outlets across five regions in the country with pomp, music and fare.

The last question you’re probably waiting for me to answer is which areas shall they be held? The on-going tournament is being played in five regions Central (covering Kiambu, Nairobi and lower Eastern part of the country), Western (covering Nyanza, Western and Rift Valley provinces), Mountain (covering Central and upper Eastern provinces) and the Coast. The Armed Forces zone is categorised as a special region that will have major armed forces barracks pitted against each other.

Esh!

Atemi’s Latest ‘Catch’ Has Sang With Brandy, Joe Thomas And D’banj!

Got you! I know I know, April fools’ is so 2000 and late but I couldn’t help it! Now to the story itself.

http://www.gatwitchfestival.com/images/carol-atemi.jpg

I twisted the facts just a bit. I wrote about Usijali, her duet with Mudigi Savara of Sauti Sol. This was the first offering from her sophomore album and boy wasn’t that article popular! Atemi’s album by the way is called Manzili-State of mind, and is currently on sale. I have listened to some of the songs and yes, it is definitely worth every penny you spend. Read about that here.

http://cdn.thenetng.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IMG_8361bw-306x460.jpg

Well in the spirit of novelty and all matters promotional, Atemi teams up with Praise Adejo for a concert that promises to be all kinds of amazing. Praise who? Sit down and let me school you! Praiz is one of those soulful singers from West Africa. He came to the fore musically after participating in MTN’s Project Fame. Although he was 2nd runner’s up, he nonetheless has carved out a niche for himself, making vocal appearances on M.I’s ‘Epic’ and Bez’s ‘that stupid song’. ‘That Stupid Song’ was the first Nigerian video to get airplay on BET. Lanes people, lanes!

http://trends.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Praise-Adejo.jpg

At the opening concert for season four of Project Fame West Africa, he performed alongside wait for it, Brandy, Joe Thomas, D’Banj and Chidinma among others. Le sigh.

Below is a song from him so you atleast know what to expect. The Concert will be held on 12th April 2013 at Pride Inn Hotel and Conferencing on Westlands Road next to Graffins College. It starts at 7 pm. The charges are Kes 2,000/- advance and Kes 2,500/- at the gate.

Atemi never disappoints so I suggest that you grab those tickets ASAP and prepare to be blown away! Vocal dexterity ain’t no thang for these two accomplished singers so you shall definitely be in for a treat.

K’Cous Releases His Latest Weed Song On Radio

Today on Tina Kaggia and JB did a hit or miss session, and the song they were promoting was “How High,” sung by K’Cous, the Camp Mulla producer, and Kanja.

OneFM fans unanimously voted for the song as a hit, and we’ve also covered the song here on Ghafla! and Uncle Chim-Tuna found it to be a hit as well. It’s also really great that OneFM were open enough to play a weed song on their station at 4pm. Here is the video to the track in question:

{youtube}AX_6v82X3Ww{/youtube}

Now I was happy for K’Cous up to this point, and I thought he was also showing some playful arrogance on the show, which is always a plus for celebs, but then he really surprised me when Tina Kaggia asked him a pertinent question. Tina brought up the rumour that has been doing the rounds in showbiz, where people have been saying that K’Cous earns most of the cash in Camp Mulla, due to bad contracts that were signed which favour SubSahara records and K’Cous. In response to this question, K’Cous said, “No, we all get good money… but when I have to get paid, I have to get paid.”

This suggests that the rumors are true to an extent. K’Cous probably does get the lions share of the cake. But this was not even the worst part. The worst part was his justification of why he gets most of the money. He said, “you know it’s easy to be a singer. You just have to get on stage. But when you’re on stage, you’re singing my song, so you have to pay me. Also these Bernsoft guys coming and saying oh, you owe us cash. We don’t owe you cash. That’s my song.”

That part riled me to no end. I would go as far as to dare K’Cous to hit the same notes Miss Karun hits, since her job as a singer is so ‘easy.’ Dear K’Cous, please recognize that you as Camp Mulla only work as a team. Some of your fans listen to you because of your beats, some fans(like myself) listen in for Taio Tripper, others want to hear Karun, and others lend an ear to Shappaman. But most importantly, most of your fans listen to you guys because of the way it all comes together in the end when you work TOGETHER. Never forget that!

May The Real Lulu Hassan Please Stand Up!

Imposters are a dime a dozen. On social media, they are the rule rather than the exception. I suspect that is why it’s such a big deal when an account is finally verified, just ask Larry Madowo.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-83I1EH47CaY/UKO0yvEQo4I/AAAAAAAA_X0/7EHaOsZG5tI/s1600/Julie2.jpg

Allow me to take you down memory lane before I get to the crux of the matter. Many a celebrities have taken to social media to denounce their imposters and ask their fans to be wary. Some of these guys are so diabolical they have even fleeced people who thought they were sending money for a good cause. Julie Gichuru last year warned her Facebook fans not to send money to criminals using her name to swindle her adoring fans who were none the wiser.

http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/images/friday/pulse130209_07.jpg

Our very own Chim emerged bloody but unbowed, when Janet Mbugua went ‘mono a mano’ with him after he called her out for supporting Mirfat. It turns out that super popular page is fake! Say what? I didn’t believe it, read about that here. Swaleh Mdoe has actually gone on record to say that he has NO Facebook accounts. On air mind you.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FkV_iKHC86o/UO3Mor51YLI/AAAAAAAAOAE/SjGMuGmjvDw/s1600/ndk2.jpg

Caroline Mutoko has repeatedly posted on her Facebook page that she has no twitter account. She has reiterated that that it’s an imposter purpoting to be her, and that she shall not be deemed culpable for any mischief the clown gets people embroiled in. Kirigo Ng’arua was caught up in all this craziness.

http://www.the-star.co.ke/sites/default/files/styles/node_article/public/images/articles/2012/04/30/20455/kirigongaruaof.png

Now one more anchor has come out to denounce her imposter on Facebook, Lulu Hassan. Which begs the question, why are most of the media personalities being impersonated from Royal Media Services? Does that attest to the pupularity of this station’s anchors? Musings. This is Lulu Hassan’s real account, the other one is fake, be warned.

Lulu Hassan recently made a surprising shift to Royal Media’s Citizen TV after being with KTN for six years. She actually announced her decision prior to the move on her real Facebook account. That my dear friends is how much love some celebrities have for their fans. Now you understand why this issue is always thorny. Who wants to have their name dragged through the mire by an egocentric imposter trying to reap wher ethey did not sow.

Here again, is a list of the genuine celebrity facebook accounts. And this here is a list of genuine celebrity twitter handles. Now you know.

Another Naswa Prank Goes Horribly Wrong. Prankster Beaten! (VIDEO)

When comedians get into comedy, there is always a line which is drawn between what is tolerable as a joke, and what is not.

Sometimes, unfortunately, people are not in agreement about this line, so we have situations where a particular person doesn’t “get” the joke.

Naswa, one of Kenya’s leading comedy programs, has been coming clean about instances where they cross the line. Yesterday, we saw a video where guns were drawn during a Naswa prank, and today, one of the Naswa pranksters got punched in the face during his antics!

The prank consisted of a man dressing up in a skeleton suit, sneaking up on people, and scaring the crap out their backsides. Now this prank sounds sound, but there was one fatal flaw in their plan:

They staged it in the village.

In the villages of Kenya, where superstition runs rife, you can expect all sorts of reactions to a spirit creature emerging from nearby plants. The prankster finally got what was coming to him, as one of the ‘victims’ just didn’t give a hoot. He punched the guy square in the face and moved along swiftly as if nothing had happened. List Of Artists To Perform At President Elect’s Inauguration Bash Released.

It is all systems go, now that the supreme court ruled in favour of president elect Uhuru Kenyatta. I hear next week’s inauguration has earned us a holiday and I am stoked in no small way! Can anyone confirm to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that 9th April 2013 is indeed a public holiday? Moving along swiftly…

So the rumour mills have been rife with out of this world allegations that international artists shall be gracing the inauguration podium. Among the names dropped were, wait for it, Chris Brown and even Rick Ross. And doesn’t Shaffie kinda resemble Rick? Hmm.

Photo

Back to the story. laura Walubengo gave a list earlier today of the artists confirmed to perform at the ceremony. It includes Rufftone, Ringtone, Sauti Sol and Sarakasi Dancers. I for one I’m surprised Jaguar and Size 8 didn’t make it to the list! Or Avril for that matter. Sauti Sol by the way were recently in Lagos, read about that here.

http://www.cwsyouth.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/P8122018.jpg

The swearing in ceremony shall be held at Kasarani Sports Complex, so expect pomp and colour! This promises to be one of those momentous occasions, that shall have the bank accounts of these artists bursting at the seams. That of course is my subjective opinion, who knows, they could be performing probono for the love of this country! Right…

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_d3c6IrltRg/UMMhN_16f2I/AAAAAAABHsM/p8OY_q_Gheo/s1600/Ringtone.jpg

Earlier today Chimano of Sauti Sol tweeted a picture of the complex with the hashtag #Inauguration2013. That about seals the deal for me atleast.

Photo: #inauguration2013

Incase you don’t know who was behind President Uhuru Kenyatta’s public relations machinery, read that here.

Obama’s April Fools Prank

On 1st April 2013, Obama decided to address the public in an extra special way. I wish I could write about the story, but you know how stale jokes sound when they are explained in full! Just watch the video for yourself:

Top 3 Socialite Topless Pics

The socialite pics have been flooding our timeline of late. For those who are offended, sorry, we are actually milking them to test our new servers ability to withstand crashing(remember how Ghafla! was crashing left right and center last week?). Yes, the nvde photos are for science. True story.

First photos of Pendo when she was wet came out, THEN a story about Vera Sidika removing her panties in public leaked to us, THEN an alleged nvde photo of Vera came out, THEN Shee Waruinge came out with a video of her twerking her booty, THEN Huddah came out with her own rump-shaking video, and THEN Pendo came out with her own nvde photo, which can be seen in this link.

Now I have carefully analysed all these photos, and come to a conclusion on which were the top 3:

3. Pendo’s backshot

It’s actually pretty artistic, and some of our recent female guests in the Ghafla!HQ were admiring. No lie.

Pendo Nvde Pic Unleashed

2. Huddah’s booty shot

There is a certain female radio presenter who was drooling over this pic when I showed it to her. For the sake of avoiding lesbian rumors, I shall not reveal her name.

Marya’s Response To Mwafreeka’s Sex Request

Yesterday, hip hop legend Mwafreeka came clean and told me that he would like to have sex with Marya.

Now, I pride myself in being a love doctor of sorts. Whenever someone shows interest in another, and doesn’t have the guts to make a real move, I like to step in and provide a bridge on which the two people can link up. So when I saw Mwafreeka hollaing at Marya from a distance, I knew I had to work my magic once again. Off I went to Twirra, and directly told Marya:

“Hi Marya. Mwafrika has said that he wants to have sex with you. What is your response?”

AND MARYA REPLIED…

“I have no response to that.”

Sorry Mwaf. I tried. You’ll have to spit your own game this time around. As they say, Mwanaume Ni Effort.

Former Ogopa Deejays’ Producer’s Official Response To Artist luring Allegations.

Competition is the name of the game, and often times when someone makes forays into a field that boasts of mainstays, feathers are ruffled.

That was the case recently when an ‘ensuing’ battle’ was ‘played out’ on our web pages after Jeff wrote that two former Ogopa deejays’ employees were using their former employers’ brand to make in roads into the market.
The two, Banda and Phillip Makanda (Philo) were mentioned, and Philo not only vehemently denied the charges, he emailed a statement to that effect. I have shared it verbatim below.

‘Rumors that we were using ogopa deejays logo to attract business opportunities is a fallacy. Main switch Group Limited being an events company through its proprietors has invested heavily in Concert equipment. And with its directors, affiliates and other industry stakeholders, aims to grow the live sound, music and entertainment in kenya to greater heights. It organized its own concerts dubbed Tetemeka concerts which were done in partnership with Ogopa deejays last year. Main switch has also supplied concert equipment for major concerts including the pamoja peace concerts organized by Emmy kosgey and Daddy Owen.”

tetemeka_1.jpg

Are we still together thus far? The email continues to say, ” There are also alleged rumors that Main Switch is luring artistes to come record at its newly built studios purporting to be ogopa deejays. In response,, Phil being a renowned music producer formerly at Ogopa deejays, felt it was in the interest of his personal ambition to pursue music production months after he left ogopa deejays late last year. “I left Ogopa in good faith to pursue personal interests and concentrate fully on Main Switch. I am not in direct competition with Ogopa. I value the time that I served Ogopa deejays in my capacity as a producer and I wish them all the best.”

He is currently working with several artistes and has recently produced a major collaboration between frasha -(punit) and Wyre. Other artistes currently working with him, include Gospel artiste Ringtone, Canibal, Syd, and renowned businessman/artiste Jaguar just to name a few, all of whom are free lance artistes not signed to Ogopa Deejays. He welcomes all artistes to his recording studios “It would benefit the entertainment industry at large if talented Kenyan artistes could live comfortably off their music.” Main switch exists as an independent company and is not affiliated to Ogopa deejays.

Banda is not a music producer as alleged by some reporters but a renowned talent and events manager. He is among the longest serving talent managers in the kenyan entertainment industry and has managed the likes of chameleone, namelss, redsan, kleptomaniax, longombas and is currently managing Ogopa artistes including popular female singer Avril. No official communication has been made to the effect of his departure from Ogopa.

Former Homeboyz Radio Presenter Rants About The Disgusting Tribal Diatribe On Social Media.

The Government has said that it will crackdown on the hate speech that has permeated social media in the recent past. We have seen a couple of big wigs as they are called in twitter being summoned over their tweets or Facebook posts.

Read about one of them here. Now Ciru Muriuki of who used to work at HomeBoyz Radio, has lent her voice to this fiery topic. I agree whole-heartedly with everything she says because it is sickening to read some of the sentiments people are putting out! You may think you can hide bacause you are ‘incognito’ on social media, but trust me, the long arm of the law will catch up with your diabolical self. Read her verbatim post below.

“This has to be said. As I look around the social network, I am angry. Disappointed. Even a little scared. People I know, educated, rational adults casting reasons and common-sense aside to vomit tribal diatribe left and right. I’m not going to walk on eggshells here. If you run around saying Kikuyus are thieves, SLAP YOURSELF. Rubbish. Have you met the entire tribe? Have you never been helped by a Kikuyu? Treated by a Kikuyu doctor? Bought veggies from Mama Waithera? Did a Kikuyu steal your common sense?? If you’re jumping up and down calling Luos uncircumcised Kihii….SLAP YOURSELF. What the hell is wrong with you??

Why are you obsessed with the state of someones genitals?? Clearly the the absense of a bit of skin didn’t help your emotional maturity at all. Shut your ignorant mouth. If you’re feverishly typing, talking about Kikuyus being jigger infested…SLAP YOURSELF. How is the suffering of people in the deepest poverty a joke to you? And do jiggers choose who to attack?? “Oh look, a kikuyu…yummy”. Go talk to Cecilia what’s her name…..she will tell you that jiggers are found everywhere. Idiot.

If you’re bleating like a goat calling Luos stone-throwing hooligans…SLAP YOURSELF. After you’re done, walk into the various universities and see the numbers of intellectuals from that community, who have greatly contributed to the development of this country. And then shut your giant mouth. Grow up!! Open your minds!! As you spew your venom, your leaders are comfortably ensconced within their mansions, oblivious to your existence! As you burn your ID be sure that your leader’s ID is very intact! As you gloat and celebrate victory as if YOU are the one that won, rememberthat half the country is heartbroken! As you judge me simply by looking at my surname, remember that i am no different from you….a Kenyan trying to live my life the best way I can…”

I don’t think there’s anything more I can add to this, it is self explanatory and I hope it effectively lambastes each of you posting that tribal venom. Here’s the story of yet another big wig who was summoned.

Media Personalities Who Successfully Joined The Political Bandwagon.

I was scheming through the ‘web’ and a post by Career Point caught my eye. I felt it was imperative that I share it with you!

I just posted about a former journalist who left the news room and began her own public relations firm. Her PR firm was among two others tasked with ensuring that President Uhuru Kenyatta made a lasting impression on Kenyans. Read about her here.

Former Tausi Star rises to become Women's Rep.

Well she’s not the only one! A while back I shared with you the story of Sabina Wanjiru popularly known as Wanjiru Wa Chege. She was until her recent political leap, a presenter at Coro fm, and Programmes controller at KBC Radio. She is currently the women’s representative for Murang’a county. Joining her was Millicent Mugadi, she represented us in Big Brother. Read about her here as well.

Well these two ladies are not the only ones! There’s couple of surprise names this article reveals that also ‘jumped ship’ so to speak. Wow, what a huge leap this is. Below are the names that the article gives.

    • Former Standard Group reporter Ayub Savula was elected Lugari MP
    • Former Standard Group editor Dennitah Ghati was elected Migori County Women Representative.
    • Beauttah Omanga of Standard Group was elected Bogichora Ward representative in Nyamira County.
    • Former NTV sports journalist Mustafa Iddi Salim was elected Kilifi South MP
    • Former radio presenter Sabina Wanjiru Chege was elected Murang’a County Women Representatives
    • Veteran radio journalist Alice Chae was elected Nyamira county Women Representatives
    • 27-year-old former KBC journalist Naisula Lesuuda was nominated to the Senate.
    • Former government spokesman Dr Alfred Mutua, also a journalist, was elected Machakos County governor

While the media has lost out, I believe that Kenyans are now getting served by people well versed on the issues that have a bearing on their lives.

Find Out Why Team Uhuru’s Cynthia Nyamai Was On CCTV.

I’ll get straight to it. It was evident that President Elect Uhuru Kenyatta had an awesome PR machinery. Ever wondered who was behind that? Among them was Ted Kwaka aka Big Ted, director of the The Main Event Company and Cynthia Nyamai. Girls run the world, Beyonce didn’t lie.

Now you probably wonder where she went after her high flying position as a news anchor. Ms Nyamai walked away from a seemingly lucrative job as a business journalist at Kenya Television Network (KTN). She, a 2011 best Diageo business journalist award of the year award winner, set up a fim that brings in between Sh250,000 and Sh3 million for every single project she handles. She told a local daily that.

At the Top 40 under 40 dinner

She clearly defines the term greener pastures, her public relations firm is eponymous, Cynthia Nyamai Communications. And that company, was at the helm of the spirited campaign that got Uhuru Kenyatta elected. Cynthia by the way, armed with her PR company, was single handedly responsible for seeing to it that James Mwangi, CEO of Equity bank won 2012 Forbes Africa Person of the Year award. Unstoppable doesn’t even come close to describing this woman.

Cynthia Nyamai Communications with branches in Nigeria and Dubai has a penchant for foreign investors seeking to sink capital in East Africa. Some of her first clients were Capital Partners of Nairobi Java House and Nakumatt holdings, who by the way called her for crisis management when one of the stores was burned to smouldering ashesIn one fell swoop, she moved from being just an anchor to handling one of the biggest would-be public relations disasters in Kenyan history. Her other monied clients Citibank, KenGen, Equity Bank, AAR Health Services, and Zuku.

Now back to the headline. This morning she tweeted that she was on air to let the world know that Kenya is a safe haven for businesses and investors. Could we be seeing the return of this belle to our TV screens? Only time will tell, after all, a leopard hardly changes its spots.

3rd April 2013: Ten Things You Should Know This Morning

Yesterday Nairobi experienced a very rare occurence, it rained hail and brimstones! Okay just hailstones but it did stop traffic, literally and that happens once in a blue moon! That however did not make it to ten things because my workmates think it’s not important. How sad.

On to ten things:

1. There was that supposed tryst between Rachel Shebesh and Kenzo, I’m however not convinced. See here.

2. Pendo Pendo Pendo! Esh, see those new photos here.

3. Naswa prank goes horribly wrong. Guns were drawn! more here!

4. Now which hiphop artist thinks Marya can, nay should gerrit. Read here.

5. More socialite nvde photos! Oh my word!

6. On a sad note, the media fraternity lost a journalist. Read that here.

7. Sadder still, a genge artsist was bereaved, more details here.

8. K24 is still on that ‘poaching’ spree. More here.

9. Read about the top Kenyan artists on Reverbnation here.

10. Last but not least, my rant about Kenyan artists not performing with the likes of Snoop Dogg, 2Face for MTV all stars etc.

Lele Ngoma To Perform At Choices This Thursday.

Last year, I had a brief stint as a singer, and part of the guys I’d rehearse with regularly was Lele. They were responsible for one of the best thing I did in 2012, singing for bed-ridden patients at Mater hospital. Interesting huh?

http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/c0.0.851.315/p851x315/51795_373706669378896_2011235493_o.jpg

Hence it gives me great pleasure to write about this. They shall be live at Choices this Thursday. Remember last week, Winyo and Nina Ogot gave an amazing performance! Read about that here. According to the event bio that Choices posted in the event, “Lele Ngoma is an eclectic Urban AfroSoul band. They blend a variety of styles from traditional to contemporary. The band, whose name is Swahili for the height of music has set out to create a unique sound that preserves the rich cultural heritage of Kenya.

Having started out with jamming sessions at the Alliance Française, they were partly iinspired by Afrofusion artistes like Eric Wainaina, Sautisol, Winyo as well as international acts like Lokua Kanza and Hugh Masekhela.

The 7-piece band has performed at, among other events, the World Peace Event, Drum Café 2010 Kenya edition, Kinanda Festival, featured in Nairobi’s Finest-band edition and have been part of the Art in Medicine programme at the Mater Hospital for 2 years now. Their sound has been described as the ‘true urban sound’.” I don’t need to add to this bio, maybe the video below will paint a better mental image than my writing ever could.

Vote For Doctor Marie Ojiambo To Win Miss Africa USA.

Models are peculiar people; they are disarmingly beautiful, sometimes tall and waif, voluptuous and flawless, even vain. Stunning to a fault, they command attention, have this air of ‘ethereal’ calm or a stay-away-from-me ‘stench’ that keeps you at bay.

Not so for Marie Ojiambo. According to her bio, Marie Ojiambo is a Doctor of Pharmacy who graduated with a bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Nairobi, School of Pharmacy, Kenya. She subsequently relocated to the United States of America for further studies. She is currently pursuing a MSc in Industrial Pharmacy, thesis program, at St. Johns University, Queens new York. Damn!

It continues to say her career focus centers in the area of Drug Research and Development (R&D). This encompasses research on aspects such as drug discovery, development and production, as well as the evaluation of drugs and pharmaceutical products. And they say beauties seemingly have no brains! Geez. She has four siblings, all raised by a single mum who is alsp medical doctor by training with a masters in public health. The apple is yet to fall far from the tree.

Why should you vote for Marie you ask? Marie is currently working on starting a program ‘Adopt a Sickler’ whose mandate is to offer medical support to needy patients suffering sickle cell disease. The program couples up a patient who is in critical need of medication with a sponsor who would finance the patients chemotherapy for a year or longer. She has been living with Sickle Cell anaemia her whole life, falling sick in America where people had little knowledge about the disease fueled her resolve to be a doctor.

Marie is currently making arrangements to take up the daily medical expenses of 3 young children. These children suffer from the disease here in Kenya and says that her projects sustainability is purely dependent on goodwill. She plans to have medical awareness camps in areas that are sickle cell endemic. She is affiliated with Fashion for development, Talanta Africa Incorporation, Care for Kenya and the International Youth Council (Kenyan Chapter). The young doctor enjoys the outdoors, reading and travelling.

The pertinent question is HOW do you vote for her? Simple, go this this page, and click on the fifth star above her bio. That simple.

2Face Idibia, Davido, Ice Prince, Snoop Lion For MTV All Stars African Leg.

So last week Jeff wrote about some of our artists performing at The MTV all stars event to be held at Tree House on the 5th of April 2013.

Well, coming hot in the heels of that event will be the Lagos one that features, wait for it, 2Face Idibia, Davido, Ice Prince and Professor. The durban one will feature Snoop Lion. Who? You probably know him by former moniker Snoop Dogg. This is no April fools joke by the way, it is as true as diamonds being the result of immense pressure on coals.

Ice_Prince.jpg

I saw this press release and my heart sunk. It reads, “The Lagos leg of the urban club tour on 13 April will see performances from 2Face Idibia, Davido and Ice Prince, with a special guest appearance from South African urban giant, ProfessorEntertainment icon and multi-platinum artist Snoop Lion), aka Snoop Dogg will be headlining the concert finale at Moses Mabhida Stadium, People’s Park, Durban, South Africa on 18 May 2013. MTV Africa All Stars – KwaZulu-Natal Province” will broadcast around the world as part of MTV’s acclaimed World Stage franchise on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and MTV’s global TV network.”

I was wondering, when will Kenyan artists ever be invited to grace the stage with such artists? The line up for the Kenyan leg consists of amazing talent and I wish that one of them gets picked to either in Lagos or Durban. We have world class talent here.

http://cdn.pmnewsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/2face-Idibia.jpg

The kenyan leg will feature Madtraxx, STL, P-Unit, Camp Mulla and Kanja. Tickets are 1,200 Kshs, on sale at Tree House, Museum Hill. Tree house played host to Tyranny of Benga, read about that here.

STL Seeks To Have Kenyan Artists Signed To EMI Norway.

Stella Wa Mwangi is one of those artists that blows many artists out of the water. I can’t think of an artist from Kenya that has the kinda clout and influence she wields.

“The lion that kills is the one that does not roar.”
Styled by Hodo Musa.

So this comes as a surprise. From the 4th to the 15th of April, STL will be back in Kenya shooting a documentary with Nowegian Tv Channel NRK. It aims to showcase STL’s artistic side/influence in East Africa. Basically, STL and her team will be visiting different production houses in East Africa and interacting with various artists.

When I kick it, I kick it wicked. #EndOfStory
Shout out to Hodo Musa for stying, and Yasmin from “Adam og Eva” for the hair cut.

She aims to to show the scandinavian market how East African artists work together in studio and on video shoot locations. Stella seeks to get her lable EMI Norway, to open up opportunities to upcoming East African artists in 2013. Expect to see her on a couple of Television shows in the coming weeks.

According to her Wikipedia page, Stella Nyambura Mwangi (also known for stage name STL) was born in September 1st 1986. Her music intersperses her homeland Kenya’s memories and the issues she has undergone both here and in Norway. One thorny issue she has spoken about was discrimination in Norway. Her music featured in American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile, Save the Last Dance 2, and in CSI: NY and Scrubs.

http://www.thisisafrica.me/data/image/abc_media_image/2010.11/3059862028.jpg

She has won several awards for example Kisima Awards, Clops Awards and Jeermaan Awards. She also won Melodi Grand Prix 2011 in Norway. She started ‘tinkering’ with music when she was just eight years old, and is an accomplished pianist.

She curtain-raised for Trey Songs, did you read that? Read that here, and see the picture she took with him below.

HBR’s Mwalimu Rachel Is Pregnant With K-Letta’s Baby

Sources within South B estate, where Mwalimu Rachel lives, have confirmed to us that she is indeed pregnant with a child, and the baby daddy is indeed K-Letta.

K-Letta, who recently sang the song “Paint the Town Red” with Amina, is going to be a baby daddy within the next 3 months.

http://gp1.wac.edgecastcdn.net/802892/production_public/Artist/2798569/image/small/1345750808_Press_Pic_1.jpg

Rachel has been replaced temporarily as a host on the Homegrown show as she goes on her maternity leave. Gladys Shao popularly known as Mimmo in the Mali series, will be filling in for her.

http://www.capitalfm.co.ke/campus/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/shao.jpg

When Pulse wrote about the story, the couple denied the story, but we have witnesses who have seen Mwalimu with a baby bump. She looks about 7 months along with the pregnancy, according to eye witnesses. Further proof is that we wrote an article just this February where Raquel Soni said that she was indeed dating K-Letta, so 2 + 2 =…

Beware! Janet Mbugua Imposter Coning People! I Was Also Duped!

The other day I turned God Of War on Janet Mbugua! I pulled out the hammer and tongs on her… Not really… I just spoke my heart. It was just a healthy rant. It was about Madharau Mirfat.

The Janet Mbugua came out in defence of Madharau Mirfat or so i thought… I broke down the reasons why she was wrong to come out in defence of someone who could treat people so badly…

But it turns out that that was an imposter. The page fooled me to the point of getting me to respond. Janet Mbugua wasn’t pleased. The story went viral and it got some rather nasty response from people. As I’d said earlier, Janet Mbugua was pissed and she got intouch with me.

She sent me a stern email. Janet, i forgive you. You’re too hot to stay angry at. With that said, I have to say that there are 3 false Facebook profiles. Janet has confirmed to Team Ghafla! that her only Facebook page is Janet Wamuni Mbugua. All others are impostors. If one of the profiles asks you for money, that’s a fake account. If one of them posts a risque photo, it’s not hers. If she offers you a job through her profile, it’s probably fake.

Consider yourselves warned and informed.

Brenda Wairimu Releases Snippet Of Her Upcoming Comic Book.

Brenda Wairimu has been the darling of Kenyan media for a while now thanks to Mali, Changing Times and Shuga. And the fact that she is dating hiphop powerhouse Juliani has not helped matters attention wise..

Brenda_2.jpg

Fans keep tabs on her every post in social media, and I keep my eyes peeled for the things that I feel you need to know about. So yesterday her Facebook page had a treat for all her adoring fans, a snippet of an epic comic strip! Did I mention this is in addition to the customized calenders, and christmas cards that she unveiled last year for her lucky fans! Now, everyone does movies, documentaries, biographies but comic strips, hiyo ni nadra! That means ‘this is rare’ in Swahili. Brenda is after all from my hometown Mombasa.

Brenda has this unadulterated love for children and teens, and that is the main aim of this project. She wants to create something that will be read, enjoyed and bring ineffable joy to this impressionable group of earthlings. Her management team Black Curtain, plans to release a snippet every so often, and all those pages will culminate in a comic book. Every offering will be ripped from Brenda’s real life so yes, she shall literally give you a sneak peek of her diary. For now however, you just have to keep abreast with all this via her various social media platforms.

Dubbed B-comics, this project shall not only encapsulate her life for readers, but shall allow lucky fans to have their own characters created. These will all be included in the online comic stip to be compiled into a book. Did I excitedly mention that this is epic news! I’ll keep you in the loop, this story I feel shall unravel in a very interesting way.

Meanwhile check out this picture below! Also, read about her stance on a rather controversial story last year.

Crazy Scenes As A Naswa Prank Goes Horribly Wrong. Guns Drawn! (VIDEO)

Recently there was an insane scene caused when the Naswa crew were shooting one of their pranks.

The prank involved two heavily built men accosting a passer-by, while another man came and pretended to ready a chainsaw to chop the ‘victim’ into pieces. Well, it just so happened that when one ‘victim’ was about to be ‘chopped up,’ a military officer was passing by the scene, armed with a gun saw what was happening and rushed in to save the day!

The army man readily cocked his gun, and aimed it towards the Naswa crew, while steadily advancing towards them! What transpired next is now a mystery as the cameraman also flew into a panic and stopped recording, but since we haven’t heard of any Naswa deaths or arrests, we’ll assume that all was solved amicably. You can see the video of the clip by clicking HERE.

Beats And Pieces (Photo Gallery)

By now y’all know I have a penchant for artsy events and Sauti Academy never disappoints when they invite you for a concert.

Last week I reminded you of Beats and Pieces, and Saturday was DDay. It however happened to fall on the same day as the Supreme Court ruling, thus invariably, people were a bit wary of either stepping out or staying out too late. True to form, the concert was cut short midway following security concerns by the Safaricom team.

That would be a bad thing. But it’s not! There will be two Sauti Academy events this month. Another awesome thing is that everyone who paid for a ticket that day enters free for the ‘new and revamped’ Beats and Pieces. Okay I just had to throw in that Omo analogy, it sounded right in my head. Check out the pictures below, courtesy of Corban Mokaya of Korban Photography.

I’d written about #TeamForeverAlone on twitter getting a new anthem, did you read that? Here’s the link. Below is the guy who sang that.

And yes sexy cinderella Cece Sagini was also in the building. Read about her here.

See y’all in a fortnight, you shall not be disappointed! I was impressed by how Natalie, director of Penya Africa that birthed Sauti Academy handled the ‘crisis’ that ensued. She not only said that all tickets purchased that day were valid, but actually asked if the people in attendance could car-pool so that the ones who would have otherwise used public transportation could get home safely. Courtesy of her I got home safe and sound, shout out to yah Natalie! Now you know why Sauti Academy is emblazoned in my heart.

Is Rachel Shebesh Dating Kenzo? (PHOTO)

Ghafla! has recently hired a new paparrazzi cameraman who will be drifting around town taking up close and candid photos of celebs.

His name is Vincent Omondi, and last week he got his first scoop. We got Kenzo and Rachel Shebesh at a small club on Mombasa Road canoodling and having a drink in a very private setting. The two were shocked when our paps busted them, but they quickly put on their game faces and welcomed Vincent into the vicinity. He managed to take the picture above before leaving.

It should be noted that Kenzo had recently taken a vow not to have sex and after a few days, he was reiterating that women should stop insisting on asking him for the d. He also promised to stop taking alcohol. Could Rachel Shebesh have broken his resolve? Leave your interesting or creative responses in the comment section below:

Winyo And Nina Ogot Wow At Choices Baricho Road.

The Thursday before good friday saw me get my first off day here, and revel in the ‘freedom’ I did. I however prefer low key events so I decided to go confirm some things I’d heard.

First point of call, Phoenix theatres to finally see what the fuss was all about with this play Fathers Day. I’d written about it here, so it was only fair that I go and ascertain for myself the scintillating details. Esh!

Second agenda, brave the rain and head on down to Choices Baricho road with my friend Kawira. Trust Nairobi to shudder when the rains check in, there was a gridlock from here to Kathmandu! By the time we were making our way to Choices, the first set was over and the place was full to the brim! That my good friends is how much traction Winyo has. If this guy ever quits the scene, music’s heart will break to smithereens I tell you. For more details about Winyo, read about him here.

Thanks to Quaint Photography, I have some photographs to paint a picture of how much you missed.

And yes, even Papa Shirandula’s Wilbroda was in attendance. It was worth making a mad dash whilst evading the relentless rain.

27 Year Old Kenyan Journalist Working For The Star Found Dead Under Mysterious Circumstances!

Bernard Wesonga, a correspondent for The Star was found dead Sunday morning in his house in Mombasa. The deceased’s housemate found him dead and he was apparently bleeding from his mouth and nose.

While the cause of death is still as of yet a mystery, it is reported that the late Wesonga went out with some of his oboys to a local pub for drinks on Saturday night and left at around 10 p.m.

It is however alleged that Wesonga had told friends that he had been receiving anonymous death threats on his phone via texts which were in connection with a story that described allegations of unlawful shipment and sale of fertilizer that had exceeded its expiration date.

Authorities are still attempting to find the cause of death and have promised to do so by Wednesday. May Bernard Wesonga rest in peace.

Why Are Kenyans Their Own Greatest Haters And Detractors?

I will never fully grasp the Kenyan peculiarities. I guess you have to be fully Kenyan to understand them. Be that as it may, it’s time to dissect an endemic problem that plagues Kenya’s entertainment scene: haters.

There is no weaker emotion than fear. But the next weakest emotion would be envy. And from the looks of it, Kenyans have it in the bucket loads. I am sick and tired of hearing Kenyans say they don’t listen to local music because it sucks. They talk as though the South Africans and better still, we Nigerians begun on top. You have to support your own! Build your own. And nothing works better than positivity. The negativity sucks the life and joy out of everything.

Then there is the lot that hate simply because they lack the spine to do something real and tangible. I recently said that Mista Majani is the Mark Zuckerberg of Africa. I didn’t even give him the lofty billing, i merely use the comparison. But whenever i say this alot of people catch feelings. Don’t! Do something or take a seat. All the hate and vitriol is useless if you have nothing to show for it. Just take a seat! The whole couch if you must but be seated! Why do Kenyans enjoy hating on people doing their own thing? Get behind me Satan!

And let’s not forget the lot that hates merely because they are angry. I don’t know why they are angry, i’m not paid to play the shrink so i don’t care. This lot always gets on the comment section to try to beat down the team. Some take it a step further and put entries into their blogs. Granted, they trend. But we trend so much we don’t even keep count so take a seat! Build! Don’t keep trying to destroy! All that does is tell me that you are beneath me and you want me at your level!

This lad can relate. Haters gonna hate!

But all isn’t lost. There are the folk that are supportive even in their criticism. This is the lot i keep paying homage to. The Denis Imayas and the Anthony Sserwaddas. The type to build. That is the only way Kenya will grow.

Stop hating on your actors and your entertainers. Giving props to Nigerian and South African and even Tanzanian artists like i need your help to say that Nigeria is the best nation in Africa in terms of entertainment. Take a seat hater!

I’m done ranting!

K24’s Network Now Poaches A Top Sports Journalist!

Renowned sports journalist Milton Nyakundi had taken a break from media for a while after a stint at KBC.

He took a break so as to venture into politics. He vied for the seat of speaker of the Nairobi county assembly, but his attempts were futile. Now he’s back in the newsroom, but for the People Daily, which is the print arm of Mediamax, which is the parent company of K24, and owned by President Uhuru Kenyatta. He released the news in the following statement:

“I can now reveal that today, exactly 14 months since I quit from KBC, marks my return to mainstream media as it is my first day of work at Mediamax where I have taken up a new challenge as a Sports Sub for The People Daily. I am humbled at the opportunity to join the country’s fastest growing media organization and I look forward to the growth of the brands that Mediamax has established namely K24, Milele FM, Kameme FM, Meru FM, among others; those become my brands and for you out there, I welcome you aboard and you’ll seen not just read my pieces but also watch and listen to me on the greatest stations of the moment. Of course, make People Daily your newspaper of choice because what we have on offer is top-drawer content. This is my best decision, joining Mediamax Media Network and I thank God.”

For those who are wondering, here is a full list of the journalists poached by K24.

This Is How Tyranny Of Benga Went Down At TreeHouse On Easter Sunday.

Easter came and vanished into thin air! I’m yet to grasp how quickly that long break just fizzled out. That festive period however, was innundated with events and one of them was dubbed Tyranny Of Benga.

Meanwhile at Tree-House, Dan Aceda, Amileena, Eric Wainaina, Atemi, Dela, and the Villagers Band threw it down like it was new year’s! I wrote about this event here, If you missed it, this is how it went. All pictures are courtesy of Quaint Photography, check out more pictures at their Facebook page. The event was organized by African Bonfire and Treehouse’s Culture Connect

Last week I’d told you that Amileena and Chizi are not breaking up! See them below.

And this is definitely the picture of the day! Check her out!
