Now you’re up to speed. Have a mzoori weekend and take care ya’ll.

Mother-In-Law Actress Wanade Admitted To Hospital.

I just came across very very saddening news, from the Actors.co.ke. Mother-in-law is one of the most popular programs on Citizen TV, and Wanade is one of its most meorable characters.

This comes only days, after I wrote of Oliech’s mum being admitted in hospital. Read about that here. The picture used below is of the show’s creator, and the main actress who plays the mother in law role. I was not able to find a picture of Beth.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o2Wbe9wK9rA/Tvmp9D9WcII/AAAAAAAAAEk/5QGFdBYkGlw/s640/24944_380879591801_100434536801_4904696_6242534_n.jpg

Well below is that status I’m talking about.

“Beth Mbaya aka Wanade of Mother in law, has been hospitalized at Meridian Equator hospital Nairobi West St Pauls Ward where she is very unwell. Only Family and close friends can visit her at the moment. Thank you for all for the prayers and well wishes coming in. We hope for the best..”

Our hearts go out out to her and her family, may health make haste and inundate her. It is very disheartening when one comes across such news. Please include her family in your prayers.

Camp Mulla, Just A Band To Share A stage With Batida And OctaPush From Portugal!

Ever wanted to see Camp Mulla and Just A Band share a stage? How about with international acts like Batida & Octa Push (Lisbon, Portugal), Oren Gerlitz (Berlin, Germany) among other acts?

Come this Saturday, Goethe-Institut Nairobi will transform Marshalls Service Workshop into a concert and party location. And yes all those people shall be performing! The event bio states that Warm-Up and Aftershow-DJs from Johannesburg (South Africa) and Naples (Italy) – Visuals – BBoys. What else to expect? Great drinks and good people! Read the latest Camp Mulla news here.

Is This The End For Camp Mulla?

Entrance is just 300bob! The event is Goethe-Institut Nairobi & TEN CITIES, location is Marshalls Service Workshop, opposite Kenindia House, Loita Street.

TEN CITIES teams up about 50 DJs, producers and musicians from Berlin, Bristol, Johannesburg, Cairo, Kiev, Lagos, Lisbon, Luanda, Nairobi and Naples, enabling them to produce music together and exchange their knowledge about the club scenes in their home countries.

The project started off in Luanda in November 2012. After production phases in Lagos and Johannesburg in 2013, Nairobi is the fourth stage. Renowned electronic music producers Octa Push and Batida, both from Lisbon/Portugal, as well as Berlin based musician, producer and Jahcoozi member Oren Gerlitz are coming to Nairobi. They will record new tracks with Just A Band, Camp Mulla and many more. Watch the latest Just A Band video here.

The highlight of the project phase in Nairobi is a grand show with all participating artists. In matters of the venue we’ve got inspired by a common practice of early underground electronic music scenes which set up parties in abandoned warehouses. Based on that we will transform a garage into a concert venue, adding this exceptional warehouse character. This is going to be an extraordinary experience so make sure you do not miss it!

Behind The Scenes Footage For Camp Mulla & Kanja’s Look At Me Now Shot Using An Iphone!

Remember how I went on and on, about how people are now using phones to shoot videos? I was on to something, or so I’d like to think.

Is This The End For Camp Mulla?

First it was Juliani who shot a two minute video for Nai ya who using an Iphone. Then there was that soon to be launched series called phoney shot entirely using a Nokia N8. Read about that here, it is by Nice Githinji.

African King, Kanja is now in Paradise

There’s someone else who’s also shooting behind the scenes videos using an Iphone. His name is the Kissing bandit, ladies you probably know him. If you don’t, soon enough you will. He recorded the behind the scene video for floss na wewe, I shared that yesterday here. Well he was in the set for this new video, watch it below, this is great work. The video itself was directed by Kevin Bosco so y’all know the quality will be off the chains.

GrandPa Records On A Philantropic Mission

GrandPa Records/Family is barely four years in the industry but has already made a name as one of the leading recording and production labels in East Africa. With the signing of artists like DNA, the studio’s success floodgates were opened and nothing seems to stop the record label.

In fact, just last week, GrandPa spearheaded Mr. Nice’s comeback to the music industry by signing him and produce a collabo for him and DNA(read about that HERE). With all this success in a very short period, the record label has decided to give back to the society; besides the Holy Book teaches that a hand that giveth is more blessed than a hand that receiveth.

As such, GrandPa Records will tomorrow visit St. Catherine’s Children Home in Kibera where the artists under the label will contribute food stuffs and used clothes to the orphans at the home. The label also welcomes well-wishers on board.

Among the artists expected to take part in the noble mission include; Mr. Nice, DNA, Jaguar, Wyre, Kendi, Pizo Dizo, Libby, Warda, Refigah and Mr. Lenny.

You Won’t Believe What Jalang’o Would Ask For If He Got Stuck In A Desert Island

For a man who comedy is his fulltime job, you wouldn’t be able to tell whether he’s pulling your leg or saying the truth when you have a word with him. But one thing is for sure; Jalang’o is one of the most sought after comedians in the country.

He recently had a chat with Cheka Times crew where he revealed some beguiling details about himself. Here’s an excerpt of that;

CT: What would you be doing if you weren’t a comedian?
J: If I wasn’t a comedian I would be a comedian that I am right now. For me it’s either comedy or comedy, though I still have this desire to fly a plane and that’s why sometimes I just go to JKIA and watch planes take off and land as if am from ushago.

CT: Tell me how comedy started for you.
J: I was born a comedian so for me it started when I was very young. First show was when I played a doctor in Nursery school then another memorable moment was when I played Judas in a church play when I was in standard 4.

CT: Were you always funny?
J: Everyone always told me am funny especially my mother and for her no one disputes her as she has always been right. I can even quote my mum on this, “A Naked Man Doesn’t Fear a Pick Pocket”.

CT: Most embarrassing moment
J: It was when I was playing a role whereby I was supposed to cry and I ended up laughing instead as I can only act happy roles. This made me the worst actor at the Drama Festival as it was clear I wasn’t the best and ever since I ended up carrying an onion in my pocket to assist in playing any sad roles.

CT: What song would you have played at your funeral and why?
J: Definitely Katumbo Dance as it’s my song and why use someone else’s song?

CT: If you could take three things to a desert island what would they be and why?
J: I would take my iPad to check mail and to tell people am stuck to bring me water and 3 underwears as would want to remain clean.

CT: Favorite one-liner joker
J: If you can’t beat them, arrange to have them beaten.

CT: If you knew today was your last day on earth, how would you spend it?
J: I think I would spend my whole day at Kosewe eating fish until Jesus comes for me and still would request him to allow me to carry one piece to heaven.

There you have it!

Navio Bereaved

Kenyan-schooled and Uganda’s top Hip-hop artiste, Navio is bereaved. The husky-voiced rapper lost his maternal grandmother a week ago during a function in Kampala.

According to Uganda Online, Molly Blick (84) was at Serena Hotel attending the celebrations to mark 20 years of Crown Beverages Ltd, the makers of Pepsi-Cola in which her daughter Prof. Maggie Kigozi (Navio’s mum) is one of the three major shareholders.

Shortly after Prof. Maggie introducing her she waved to the crowd and moments later broke for dinner. It’s during that time that she collapsed and died. The MC of the night, Roger Mugisha was faced with the worst experiences since assuming this role saying, “I had just mentioned that the old lady has stamina that she wasn’t on a wheelchair…gosh! I gave her so many compliments.”

In a short tribute, Navio said, “People pass away. Remember them as they would like to be remembered.”
Our sincere condolences to Navio and his family.

Meet Richard ‘Reechie’,Wandati (drummer), Tito Monako (Bassist), Ben ‘Gittx’ Gitau (Keys), and Benjamin kabaseke (Guitarist). These are the guys that make up Threat Band. They have played with Javen (U.S.A), Vivien Green, Benjamin Aggerbaek, Pallek Klok, Louise Hoegh from Copenhagen Denmark, Olivia Mutukudzi from Zimbabwe. The have shared the stage with: Jonathan Butler, Israel Houghton, Kirk Franklin, Cece Winans, Deitrick Haddon and Damita Haddon. ESH! countries in Africa)

The band has been in existence for five years, and I for one I’m glad the musical rapport is still there, the bonds stronger than Samson. They are known for music versatility and chemistry, which gave birth to their name threat band kenya.  Watch them this evening at Choices Baricho Road courtesy of Roots International. How Well Do You Know Your Favourite DJ? Find Out Their Embarrassing Real Names Here!

Whenever artists and DJs are setting out on their career path, they are often faced with a dilemma; whether to use their government names or a pseudonym. Personally, I’d choose either DJ Itchy Scratchy or just stick to Uncle Chim Tuna Obiajulu. But the following celebrities all unanimously elected to use pseudonyms.

And we know the names on their i.d cards and I will share them with you. My source for the article by the way was one Philip Njihia. Thanks lad!

Ladies and gentlemen, I love being the bearer of good news! And for Rabbit and his fans, I have it by the bucket load! Last year Rabbit released his debut album titled “Orutu ya Masudi” which you should get for yourself.

Last night while on Hits Not Homework, Rabbit also known as Kaka Sungura, let it slip that his track “Swahili Shakespeare” will be used as the sound track to a movie being shot in Hollywood. talk about going global! and what is it about Kenyan tracks that the folk down in Los Angeles like so much?

STL also had her song used in one of the “American Pie” franchise films. anyway, back to rabbit, the album I spoke off “Orutu ya Masudi” is a dedication to his grandfather Masudi who was prolific at playing the traditional Luo instrument known as “orutu”.

Read more rabbit news here (you will get to watch his latest track by clicking this link by the way)

This Is How The AGDA Nominations Party Went.

The AGDA nominations party, was held this weekend at Ball Room at Prestige Ngong Road. Sadly I wasn’t able to attend, but Patrick Sampao of M-Tech was kind enough to send a detailed account of the night, so that is what i shall share with you. Pictures coming up in a bit.

The first ever Africa Global Deejays Nominees party took place last weekend at the Prestige Plaza Ballroom.  The event kicked off by giving the nominated deejays from Kenya Dj Joe Mfalme, Dj Crème De la Crème, DJ Donnacia and DJ Kumi an opportunity to showcase.
Female actress turned deejay Pierra Mackena opened the night for the main deejays, and she gave a good account of herself working the crowd during her set. Her skills on the decks as one of Kenya’s female deejays gave a hint that she may be on the nomination list when the AGDA return in 2014. If you hadn’t read about the party, do so here.

Sakata Season Three winners Black Blingers, were also on hand to showcase at the event. The dance crew did a five minute dance routine and as expected, they proved why they are the reigning Sakata champions.
At around midnight, house and trance deejays Donnacia and Kumi, got the crowd ready for the big shots deejay Mfalme and Crème. Mfalme had just rocked the Mingle crowd barely an hour before he took the Prestige Ballroom stage.  Speaking to the press on his arrival at the Nominees party Mfamle said, he was glad that the efforts of deejays were finally getting acknowledged across the continent.

Mfalme and Crème went on to keep the crowd on their feet, till the wee hours of the morning when the curtains to a great night finally came down.
Celebrities who attended the nominee party include, Kiss Fm’s Shaffie Weru and Kalekye Mumo, Teen Republic’s Anita Nderu, Octoppizzo, Rabbit, Bamboo, Sugar, Dj Wesley, Victoria Kimani, Vera Sidika, Ghetto radio presenter Mbusi and Camp Mulla. Dj Wesley is on his way to dubai, read about that here.

The AGDA Awards nominees parties were also held in other countries across the continent including Ghana, South Africa and Nigeria.  The event was organized by Mtech Kenya, Stronghold Entertainment and Homeboyz.

Octopizzo Back With the Heat!

I have to say, I love this track! It’s too much fire! If it were food, it would be sizzling bacon with scrambled eggs! It’s a delectable composition from the lyrics to the instrumentals to the mixing. I am now done vomiting rainbows about this song.

I lie! Octopizzo’s new track “Stay So Fly” is officially my new anthem! I especially love the line that he raps that says, “Ku-afford swag ka hii, labda mortgage!” Kaboom!

The track is based on his journey from the ghettos of Kibera, the slumway allies to riding in planes! From seeing planes overhead to being in the belly of one. The track is just too many levels of lyrical prowess and in the midst of all this, there’s a cameo of his daughter dancing around him… What is it about thugs and their daughters? It’s actually cute.

Let this article be a synopsis. you form your own opinion of this track. Listen to the jam for yourself and let me know what you think about the song.

Kenya’s Latest Soul Queen Mumala Finally Releases Her debut Song!

Yesterday I wrote about Mumala, even told you that she would be on air at One Fm, did you catch her?

She did reveal a few things about her, like the fact that she’s going to study law in university. Asked if that would affect her music, she cited her mentor June Gachui who is not only a lawyer but a vocalist of astounding skill. Another thing I did not know. is that she has shared the stage with Joe Thomas, what a feat for such a young lady who I believe is barely twenty! She was on air this morning at Capital Fm, I bet that she shall be doing mor einterviews in the coming days.

Well read about that previous article here. The track below is produced by Blackman, he of the Nairobi Sessions fame. I must say the track showcases Mumala’s vocals which is every important for a debut song. Mark my words though, you ain’t heard nothing yet, her vocal range is amazing. Very. Listen. By the way, to listen to another awesome vocalist who has worked with Blackman, click here.

And Yet Another Top Kenyan Secular Artist Follows Size 8 Into Gospel! Find Out More Here

Just last year, towards the end and early this year, gospel as an industry and indeed as a ministry was rocked to the core with one scandal after another culminating in a diss track from secular underground artist Cabu Gah which you can listen to here.

The track titled “Praise The Vod” was a scathing indictment of Kenya’s top gospel artists and it divided even the gospel industry with some agreeing with the core message and other not.
But Gospel seems to be on it’s feet again attracting Size 8 and now Kizo B. for those of you whop have already forgotten the lad, he is the lad behind this track

{youtube}Tw7FLBqU4HY{/youtube}

Well, the lad has now allegedly found his maker and he’s now switched to singing gospel. The lad who at some point in the recent past was signed top Pili Pili’s record label Chilli Inc. is now working on a collabo with Daddy Owen set to be released soon.

Just A Band & Camp Mulla Hook Up for Music Project with International Artistes

Two of Kenya’s biggest bands will share the stage with music stars from Europe in a night of music fusion and exploration of the urban club culture.

The Goethe-Institut brings you the TEN CITIES Concert & Warehouse Party, which is set to be one of the year’s biggest shows as they transform Marshalls Service Workshop into a concert and party location for one night, April 27th, 2013.

On stage will be experimental music group, Just A Band and urban hip hop stars, Camp Mulla from Nairobi. They will be joined by Portugal’s Batida & Octa Push, Germany’s Oren Gerlitz with more acts to follow.

The Nairobi show follows and precedes warm-up and aftershow in Johannesburg and Naples. Entrance to this weekend’s show is only Kshs. 300.

More info about the project:

Phoenix Theatres Presents The Critically Acclaimed Wanawake Wa Heri Wa Winsa!

I have heard so much about this play, that I’m stoked that it gets to show again at Phoenix theatres. It went all the way to London if I’m not wrong.

Last week I went to watch Love by Shakespeare, and my what a play that was! It was laden with tear inducing laughter, it had me in stitches for most of the evening. So when I heard that this other play was about to be showcased there, I knew I had to write about it! Love by Shakespeare starred Charles Ouda, Samson Psenjen, Jack Gitonga and Mkamzee Mwatela!

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dTBkAdBTK3Y/UBEyLcPw25I/AAAAAAAAADw/g1OunZ18Oks/s1600/420251_3494770696484_161693260_n.jpg

This is the synposis for Wanawake Wa Heri Wa Winsa. “The play is set in Kiambu County in the plush environs of Windsor, Falstaff makes his love and desires know not to one but two married women in identical letters. Upon comparison Mrs. Ford and Mrs. Page plot their revenge on Falstaff for being so bold and assuming. The revenge plan unveils itself with almost catastrophic but hilarious consequences. There is strength of some relationships with doubts creeping and some grow ever so stronger as the inhabitants of this small town watch and are a part of the unfolding comical events that surround Falstaff amorous adventures.”

The plays cast reads like the who’s who of the theater world. From Tanzania, Mrisho Mpoto as Falstaff as well as Ogutu Muraya, Neville Misati, Mourad Sadat, Eric Wanyama, Veronica Waceke, Sylvia Namussassi and Kitt Nyang’aya Kiarie. Veronica Waceke happens to star in the new series I just wrote about shot entirely using a mobile phone. Neville Misati if you remember starred as Dela’s love interest in Weche tek. Go watch this play, you will not regret it.

Watch The Trailer To Kenya’s First Series Shot Entirely Using A Phone!

I told you before that the trend for shooting videos through mobile phones is catching up!

Enter phoney, a new series about to hit the streets! According to the trailer, it’s a concotion of love, lust, deceit, betrayal, back stabbing and all those yummy words that get you hooked! Now the thing about this series is, it was shot using a phone. Yes people, a phone! Nokia N8. Nobody likes an 808 pureview? Sigh, someone get me that! To read about other awesome projects shot using a phone, read here.

This is what I gleaned from the youtube trailer: ‘Kenya’s First Mobile TV Drama Series starring Veronica Waceke, Wanjiku Mburu, Martin Githinji, Victoria Gichora. Camera/phone work by Gambino, director: Nice Githinji, Producer: Nice Githinji/ Malcolm Ouma. Shot in entirety using a Nokia N8 Phone.’

According to Actors.co.ke, how it will work is, a link will be uploaded online (small enough a size for mobile phones) for people to download and watch. Keep your eyes peeled for this, it is scandal administered in addictive doses. Now Nice Githinji was recently asked about kissing girls, did you see that? Here.

Kalekye Mumo’s Song Finally Out! Listen To It Here!

Just yesterday I notified you about the impending release of Kalekye Mumo’s song. Read about that here.

And interestingly enough, Kalekye Mumo and Shaffie Weru have a segment on their show where they ask listeners to belt out tunes for their few moments of fame. Looks like the roles have turned and now you get to let her know. For the record though, my mind has been blown away! I cannot believe how well she has sung and how awesome the level of production is!

Let us know what you think in the comment section. The song is embed below.

After Some Gay Men Approached Him, Colonel Mustafa Decides To Change

Recently, Colonel Mustafa was recently hit on by some homosexual men at iyClub.

That’s ironic, because iyClub management have come out with strong-worded messages against gays, yet the place is known for being a place where gay people and prostitutes hang out.

So initially, Mustafa said that the incident was, “the most shocking thing ever in my life.” His girlfriend even weighed in on the matter.

But now Colonel has changed tact. In a statement, he announced that he has developed a new alter ego, Mudashiro(pictured) in response to gay advances:

“They thought I was gay, Mudashiru came in response. Mudashiru is my alter ego that lives in me and upon being hit on, he appears. LENGA STRESS.”

I know there are two sides to the gay debate. The more liberal among us believe that gay people should live and let live, while the more conservative amongst us believe that gays should be condemed. What do you guys think of Colonel Mustafa’s move to defend himself against gays?

Kenya’s Next Neosoul/Afro-Jazz Queen Mumala Set To Release Her Debut Song!

People who think they can sing are a dime a dozen.

However, there are those that the verb sing is an understatement. The word applicable is sang. One of those people who can really sang happens to be Mumala. I wrote about her here, so you have to read that! She shut it down, when she did an absolutely other worldy rendition of Prince’s how come you don’t call me. I still get butterflies when I remember that performance. You probably know the Alicia Keys rendition. Mumala’s voice has been described as the perfect marriage between Asa, India Arie and Jill Scott. I concur.

well She releases her debut song tomorrow, but rumour has it that she shall be on Tina Kaggia’s show in the afternoon just to create a major buzz. This girl kills it on stage, and it’s hard to reconcile the high-note hitting diva, and the self deprecationg young lady off stage! She recently performed at Blankets backed by Wangui Githu, Prisca Ojwang and Trina Mungai which is a testament of things to come. To read about an upcoming event by Prisca and Trina next weekend, click here.

Her debut single is titled where did the love go, which she has performed in Nairobi sessions. Listen to it below in anticipation of what will be! The cover picture which also happens to be my profile picture on Facebook, was done by famed photographer Mutua Matheka. That explains the awesomeness with which it is endowed. And yes, I know people! She has been writing music since age twelve I believe, so her songwriting prowess has been tried, tested and refined by fire. And no it’s not a joke that she can hold a candle to the very best in Africa, her voice range and tone aare amazing!

Here’s that video.

Nigerian Blog Claims To Have Photos Of Female Kenyan Musician Letting Her Fans Touch Her Privates! (Photo Included)

I honestly do not know what to make of this. Someone alerted me to the existence of a website called topjoints.com that was alleging that a Kenyan artist had allowed her fans to fondle her uhm… What was that word I used in the morning? Guava? Yes!

That a top Kenyan artist had allowed fans to fondle her guava while she was on stage performing.
This is utter rubbish! I have the pictures and I have gone over them with my keen eyes and trust me when I say that there is no Kenyan artist who even roughly resembles the alleged artist.

Abi, no be so! Na yam! This is utter trash! But I shan’t be the sole judge of that. Have a look at the pictures and you decide if indeed the pictures look like anyone!
