Earlier today I told how Kiss 100’s Lynda Nyangweso was the subject of ridicule on Twitter due to her weight. Well, the sassy radio presenter has responded to her ‘downtrodders’. But what is fascinating is her mature way of doing it; instead of taking shots, she kept her head high and declared that she is not in any way ashamed of her weight.

This morning we woke up to the sad and shocking news of the death one of Kenya’s greatest actresses; Beth Nyambura Mbaya. Beth played Wanade in Citizen TV’s “Mother-In-Law”. As soon as we broke the news of her death, condolence messages started trickling in mourning the talented actress.

Jalang’o: So sad that we’ve lost another great actor..RIP WANADE OF MOTHER IN LAW….we WILL MISS YOU!

Probably you’ve been wondering where she vanished to but hold your horses guys because she is back! Just hours after launching her comeback track, “Kiboko Changu” featuring Uganda’s the Goodlyfe Crew (Radio & Weasel) at Club Aqua Blue Lounge in Westlands, the Ogopa singer is headed to Kampala.

Amani will grace the Obudde Album launch for the two Ugandan musicians today at Hotel Africana. Amani is a hugely celebrated in Kampala; in fact one of the entertainment sites there alleges that her fans are now warming up for the launch and some have even vowed to get VIP tickets just to witness the Kenyan songstress “give them a good one on top of her thrilling hits.”

Bobi Wine, Lilian Mbabazi, Myco Ouma and Washington will be the local artistes to perform. Meanwhile, Moze Radio and Weasel TV spent the whole of yesteday reheasring at Hotel Africana just to ensure that they do justice to most of their hit songs that include: ‘Fitting’ with Desire Luzinda, ‘Magnetic’ and of course ‘Obudde’ among others.

Third Kenyan Team Makes It To The Semi Finals Of The Guinness Football Challenge!

Did you watch the Guiness Football Challenge on Wednesday? If you didn’t this is what you miised out on!

A Kenyan duo last night qualified for the Semi-Finals in the Pan – African showdown of the Guinness Football Challenge. Their names are Ephantus Nyambura and Samuel Papa.

They will be showcasing their skills in the Semi-Final, inspite of not making it to the Guinness Money Wall, The duo joins two other Kenyan teams that already qualified for the coveted spots in past episodes.

They were competing against Jonathan Naab and Desmond Odaano from Ghana. Their competitors also made it to the Semi-Finals. This Ghanaian team bagged a whooping USD 8,500! That is after they trounced their opponents and aliies alike, and made it to the Guinness Money wall. Well in guys!

Consequently, the boys from Ghana last night qualified for the Semi-Finals in the Pan-African showdown of The Guinness Football Challenge.

Hence next week, four new teams will take to the pitch in the next Quarter Final. This is in a bid to secure their place in the Semi-Final of The Guinness Football Challenge.

Televangelist Mark Kariuki Ties the Knot (Photos)

Televangelist Bishop Mark Kariuki got married to his sweetheart Joyce last Friday at the Kasarani Gymnasium at a colorful wedding that was streamed live on the Bishop’s channel, http://www.livestream.com/kariukimark.

Bishop Mark Kariuki is the presiding bishop and the general overseer of Deliverance Church, Kenya, comprising over 700 churches. This was the second time the bishop is getting married. His first wife whom he married in 1978, passed on in November 2007, after being in ICU for two months.

After the flamboyant event, the Bishop thanked everyone who made the day a great success saying, “Joyce and I take this opportunity to appreciate each and every one of you that sacrificed to plan,strategize and attend our wedding. Words are simply not enough to convey our deep appreciation for making this occasion a complete success. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May He make His face shine upon you, be gracious to you and give you peace. May He reward you fully for what you have done. Thank you. Joyce and Mark.”

‘Otonglo’ Boy’s Letter to His Dad President Uhuru

Trust a Kenyan with a PC and internet to come up with craziest stuff you would never imagine. We all know that Daniel Owira is the man of the moment and that’s why everyone is fighting to have a piece of him.

Just days after premiering in Naivas Supermarkets’ TV ad, then making an appearance on Citizen TV’s ‘Inspekta Mwala’ followed by a similar move on KTN’s ‘Lies that Bind’, Owira is now back to school and just settling down for Second Term. However, his legacy lives on out of the gates of Highway Secondary School.

Cyber-bullying is now becoming a common trend among the Kenyan online community. A number of celebrities have had their fair share of cyber-bullying thanks to the stance they once took. One of them is Susan Mirfat Musa who was even labeled Madharau Mirfat, for ‘mistreating’ her arranged date on TV! (read about her tribulations HERE).

Well, the latest victim to face the wrath of exacting Kenyans on the internet is Kiss 100’s breakfast show co-host Lynda Nyangweso. After her photo (below) found its way to Twitter, a section of Kenyans on Twitter saw this as the perfect opportunity to attack the presenter over her weight.

BREAKING NEWS: Mother-In-Law’s Wanade Passes On

It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow that we announce the sudden and untimely death of Mother-In-Law’s Wanade AKA Beth Nyambura Mbaya.

The talented actress passed on this morning at her sister’s house in Kahawa Sukari. It was reported a fortnight ago that the actress was admitted to hospital for being very unwell before emerging that she was battling cancer.

News of her death was broken by fellow thespian Abel Mutua better known as Freddy of Tahidi High who posted; “R.I.P. Beth Mbaya aka Wanade. The entire Mother In Law team will miss you dearly. You fought a great battle, it’s time to rest mama. Rest well my dear”

Mbaya is survived by her sons, Kamau Mbaya AKA Baha of ‘Machachari’ and KNOWZONE presenter, Mungai Mbaya.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and the entire Mother-in-Law crew.

Fake ‘Otonglo Time’ DVD Being Sold On the Streets

Yeah, the hustle is real but truth be told, piracy is killing the film industry and must be put to an end. It’s not only a menace in Kenya but world over because it strips the global film industry of billions of dollars every year, costing people their jobs and making it harder for movie studios to make the movies they think we want to see.

You all remember ‘Otonglo Time’, yeah? If you don’t, let me jog your memory by directing you HERE. Now, it appears that a section of “hardworking” Kenyans have become “smart” and decided to ride on the narrative’s coattails to fortune. This is after the narrative was lauded recently not just by the judges during this year’s National Drama Festivals, but also the Head of State himself.

Realizing how they would make a killing out of it, they went on YouTube and downloaded the narrative then shamelessly put it up for sell on the streets. Walking in downtown Nairobi, you will bear witness to this growing trend among movie vendors.

While some people would argue that downloading a cam-corded movie could be compared to downloading a low quality bootleg of a concert, such a trend is not only infringing on the patent rights of an actor and the producer of the film considering it eats way their genuine income.

Exposing The Fake Known As Kahawa Tungu – Part 1

So recently, there has been a blogger who has been trying to make a name for himself by posting hard hitting articles to his website: kahawatungu.blogspot.com

He has also been on Twitter using the handle @kahawatungu. The account, being recently created, had under one thousand followers last week, but as of yesterday had shot up to over over 56,000 followers, and in the space of one day, dropped to around 46,000 followers.

These high fluctuations in followers aroused my suspicions. First of all, increasing by over 50,000 followers in a week would probably be some sort of record. Even big names such as @koinangejeff and @safaricomltd had to work for long periods of time for their followers. Could @kahawatungu’s brand be more powerful than those mentioned above, or is there something afoot?

Secondly, why the dramatic dip in followers overnight? Might it be that 10,000 people naturally got sick of him overnight, or is there something more sinister behind this? I set out to find the truth of the matter.

Some time in 2012, it was discovered that there was an underground industry forming in the Twitter ecosystem. Hackers had found ways to easily generate fake Twitter accounts en masse, and sell them as followers for extraordinarily low prices. Some hackers can be found selling over 10,000 Twitter followers for as low as 5$.

Sounds like the best way to get Twitter followers, doesn’t it? But here’s the catch: what the hackers don’t tell you is that after an unspecified period of time, their fake accounts usually unfollow you in the blink of an eye, and when you ask what happened, you are presented with a request to pay to get your followers back. When you look at how @kahawatungu lost 10,000 followers in the span of 1 day, it fits that narrative.

But that’s all still very speculative. We need cold hard evidence to support any allegations, lest we find ourselves sued for libel. Thankfully, after the Twitter followers scandal broke out, social media management company Status People came out with a tool to identify who’s followers are real, and who’s are fake. Aptly named the Fake Follower Check, it is simply a program that checks publicly available details of your followers, such as number of tweets, account creation date, profile completion percentage and more, to check the validity of your Twitter followers. If the accounts of your followers observe patterns seen in fake followers, such as having next to zero tweets, no profile picture, no retweets, suspicious follower-to-following ratio et cetera, then Status People’s tool can tell you the percentage of fake followers a Twitter account has. These are the results of the Status People fake follower check for @KahawaTungu :

When the Longombas relocated to the united States Of America, I was sure that would spell the demise of their musical careers. Both for the Longombas the duo and their cousin Richie Longomba. And indeed as if to vindicate my sentiments, they took a hiatus and a long one at that.

But of late they have been trying to get back to where they left off: at the top. Richie Longomba has this new musical submission for all his fans and music lovers alike. They say talent abounds in Kenya, and more so among the youth. They also tend to berate university students for being care-free, chasing what is fickle and ephemeral right? Not for this bunch of students however.

See this short movie below, I belive it’s a trailer. Details are scanty so I provided what I could glean from youtube. I came across it as I was going through the Film Kenya Magazine’s Facebook Page. I’m quite proud to write about this because Moi University is my Alma Mater, Coast Campus that is.

An amazing short film about a girl trying to let go. It is Moi University’s official film entry at the 2013 Kenya Schools and Colleges Drama Festival done primarily by Moi University students. We collaborated with the Department of Literature, Theater and Film in an attempt to showcase and highlight the talent in our universities!

It reminded me of the story of Strom Thurmond who died in 2003. Strom was a U.S senator for South Carolina for a good 48 Years. Strom was the oldest-serving and longest-serving senator in U.S history. And he died in office in 2003,aged 100 Years.

6 months after his death,a prominent American teacher and nurse made a shocking revelation. She went public and announced that Strom was ACTUALLY her dad. Strom had had sex with a 16-year old black american girl,Carrie Butler. And they had a daughter,Essie Mae Washington-Williams.

Thats a STUPID and CHEAP reaction to such a weighty matter! I have already told You the story of how Strom hid the identity of his daughter until he died! And also,he got Essie by having sex with a 16-Year old black house girl!

This case is strikingly similar to that of Mutula Kilonzo.

That day saw Camp Mullah take to the stage, possibly for the last time as a whole outfit in Nairobi. Possibly. Just A Band ofcourse got on stage to rapturous applause, and had the crowds singing along to every word. My most memorable part ofcourse was when Stan joined them for a rendition of Dunia ina mambo! The ninetees babies were awe-stricken because they had never heard the song before! Octopizzo joined this set briefly and dropped a few punchlines much to the delight of his fans there. A while back, I reported that Mbuvi is set to launch new songs, possible an album in the coming months. And to give you a taste of what’s expected, he teamed up with fellow gospel sensation Emmy Kosgey to remake a moving song of his.

Sweet Ndwale was released back in the day, as a dedication to his late mother. And this Sunday being Mothers day, he decided what better way to celebrate these bastions of morality than to do a song sorely dedicated to them. Why do so many hate Caroline Mutoko? Actually think about that question. stew on it for a short while. Understand and internalize it. Why does she divide so many in such a clear manner; you either like or hate her. very few are in the middle not caring.

Granted, when she started out on Kiss 100, she was haughty. She was not what i would describe as pleasant but with that said, she has come a long way. Shockingly, she still managed to get sush a faithful following -it was almost cultish! My mummy and aunt loved her and that is all i would hear on my way to school. maybe i don’t understand her appeal because i’m male. but be that as it may, she was particularly endearing to a certain demographic: independent women or girls who knew that is who they wanted to become.

It’s said every coin has two side -like Janus. She repelled men. To most men, she became synonymous with “rebellious women”. I couldn’t understand this reaction either because I have been raised to know that a strong man will be incharge of his home no matter what and every horse, even the most stubborn and wild can be tamed.
But away from that. it would seem insecurity has come a long way since then. Now there is a new breed of haters who have found a haven online. These are the Kahawa Tungula types. Those that are too scared to even show their faces as they take shots at Caroline Mutoko. Caroline has become a lightning rode for such weak spineless individual’s hate and bile. Maybe it has to do with the fact that she is intelligent enough to articulate her likes and dislikes rather eloquently. Maybe it’s the fact that She has amassed a considerable amount of wealth. maybe it’s because she’s still single. Maybe it’s because they are envious of who she is. With this lot you never can tell.

The number of facebook pages that have sprung up “killing” Caro… The amount of vitriol that was aired when Kahawa Kitungu spread his venomous lies was unprecedented. Caroline was called all manner of names only to be vindicated by time… And the Kahawa Tanga hasn’t as much as breathed an apology! talk about cowardice!
But at the end of the day another day is over and you are still seated or curled up somewhere posting lies about Caroline as her life moves on. Such is the cost of success perhaps.

Reports Surface About Alleged Mistreatment Of Citizen Employees

Before we begin allow me this disclaimer, before publishing this story, I attempted to reach Citizen employees for a comment but was rebuffed. The information contained within this article is a syndication of a story found on Jackal news.

“Allegations of impropriety touching on two junior Citizen Radio editors have been making rounds in Jackal News inbox for weeks. We have decided to publish these allegations with the hope that the powers that be will investigate and act.

A number of sources say Radio News editor Young Muthomi and senior presenter Christin Ojiambo have been mistreating junior staff in what seems total lack of leadership.

Beyond these claims of discrimination, sources say the two often peddle rumours about junior staff with the hope that they don’t rise and ”shine in their work”.

It appears that the top editor, Farida Karoney, is unaware.

Below is one letter from a staffer:

”Despite working so hard, the two have continued to discriminate us and spreading rumours among some of us who tend to outshine them.

Whenever you send a story they think that you have been paid, they don’t air. Instead, you will hear Ojiambo reading some shady story.

”Because of these rumours, some of us are paid less compared to others who are close to the two. This applies also to weekly allowances that are also offered on who you know best… we know that the two have been extorting money from various politicians before their stories are carried. Some of them have even complained to us asking if that is the requirement… when Young visits our regions (supposedly local language news departments) pretending to supervise, he even pockets our allowances!””

Mutula Kilonzo’s Alleged Lover Comes Out! Caroline Mutoko Is Innocent! Arrest Kahawa Tungu Now!

In light of the new information about the mystery surrounding the demise of the late Mutula Kilonzo, I believe the police should move expeditiously and arrest Kahawa Tungulu, the blogger who disseminated such damning rumours about Caroline Mutoko!

We as bloggers have a responsibility to our readers and the “stars” of our stories to be fair, balanced and above all, honest. that is why we here at Ghafla give our full details so that when we err as humans often do, we can be contacted and we issue apologies.

That I believe is the difference between Ghafla and Kahawa Vitungu and the rest of the rat pack. Ghafla tries to stand as the only beacon of truth. And while we do make mistakes as mavericks often do, we learn as we go along.

That being said, Kahawa Kitungu should be arrested and held accountable for the rumours he rather maliciously disseminated and that caused Caroline Mutoko untold suffering! And justice delayed is justice denied! He should be held accountable for feeding the general public stories that were faker than your girlfriend’s weave!

Kahawa Tungula is notorious for disseminating rumours such as the one he told about Larry Madowo quiting his job to become the self imposed manager of otonglo boy!

KTN Journalists Harassed Over Report on the Late Mutula Kilonzo

As journalists sought details of a report to be presented by the burial committee of the late Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo, they were approached by a hostile policeman who labelled them criminals.

The policeman identified as Kipkorir Onesmus termed the journalists criminals after he alleged that earlier in the morning another group of journalists had accessed the senate committee meetings without the security’s knowledge.

The policeman is said to have shoved a KTN reporter and threatened to beat her if she did not leave the premises immediately.

“I do not care who you are. I decide who comes to the senate and who doesn’t. I have the powers to even block the Senators from entering the chambers,” he shouted at the reporters while pushing them away. The policeman later asked his colleagues to take the journalists to the cells but his partners stood by and watched the drama unfold.

This is not the first time that journalists from the Standard Group are facing the wrath of the police as last month two of them found themselves in trouble with officers for trying to expose their corrupt dealings.

Diamond Rocks Kenyans in the UK (Photos)

Bongo superstar Diamond Platnumz recently while on a tour of Europe made a stop in the UK where he thrilled Kenyans living and working there. Diamond was accompanied by his dancers who left the revelers asking for more.

Diamond performed his hits; Kesho, Ukimwona, Nataka Kulewa, Chanda Chema, Kizaizai among others. The event was held at Triple EM Foods and was well attended by Kenyans and other East African citizens. Here are some images from the gig.

Kambua whose show, “Inuka” on Hot 96 every mid-morning, has been nominated in the GOSPEL RADIO SHOW OF THE YEAR, released the teaser of the upcoming video and watching it, it looks like it’s going to be big.
