The story is about this time when all Kenyans have been asked to hand in their ID Cards and thereafter they have to reapply to be Kenya because their citizenship has been revoked. Kenya has decided to have fresh Kenyans as we crossover from 50 years.
For them to be reconsidered back as Kenyans, they each haveto go through a vigorous vetting process.

The big question is “Are You Half a Kenyan or A Full Non-Kenyan?

A House Divided? Is There Trouble Brewing At Candy And Candy?

Word has just reached me that there is trouble brewing at Candy and Candy and it all stems to policy making. This year, candy and candy were going to concentrate on doing one artist’s music and videos and make them a star. they have gone as far as even making a movie set to be released in Dar for the star.

The Candy and Candy C.E.O recently attracted and signed two very talented acts in the form of Lil Gee -a Nigerian and Dazlah, a Kenyan artist.

The two acts have been competing to have their videos shot and both have feel they have shown enough talent to merit the top slot. They want the money invested in them. And they have shown the work ethic and the promise.

It all started when the label signed in a new artiste, Lil Gee from Nigeria and released a new single “one of a kind” with him and immediately wanted to follow it up with a video. However, Dazlah kiduche, popularly known as “Dazlah”, who is also signed by the label and has recently released a new single “Bangereba” had a problem with this.

His main complaint was that he should get to shoot a video first since he had recorded his song earlier and because he is also the oldest signee in the label. The two artistes exchanged bitter words which were followed by fists and blows and police had to be called in to restore peace inside the Candy n Candy records offices.

A reliable source has told us that the label C.E.O Joe Kariuki is yet to decide whose video to shoot first because apparently he can only shoot one video at a time. We could not be able to reach Joe on phone for comments.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Let us see what happens from here on out!

Missing Comic Creator, Arnold Lakhita Found Safe And Sound… At His Lovers House. Read All The Details Here

This is a rather sensitive expose. Prepare yourself for Uncle Chim Tuna to plod all over it with his delicate farmer’s feet. Last week, word went round that Arnold Lakita Mwashumbe, the former Art Director at Ogilvy Kenya had gone missing. Jeff Omondi wrote about that.

Well, I am happy to announce to all and sundry that the lad was found safe and sound. the only complication is that he was found in his love-nest with his “chipo”. The man whose friends have been thanking God for his safe return on twitter -as they omit the painful circumstance of his discovery was found in Ngara.

The lad was staying with his lover in Ngara and this discovery came about because his Facebook profile was still active.

The lad had been accepting friend requests and liking pages via his Facebook account and this led his friends to search for him in his usual haunts. He was founding shacking up with his clandestine lover in Ngara.

Arnie Lakita’s wife was heavily pregnant at the time of being subjected to this ordeal and gave birth 2 days before he was discovered. The lad was discovered on Wednesday.

That is all.

Kenyans On Twitter (KOT) Ridicule Mututho Once Again. This Is Too Hilarious! (PHOTOS)

It seems that Mututho is committed to being the ultimate party pooper! After invading the bars, supermarkets and wines and spirits joints the man is invading our houses and our cars too.

Drinking mnazi under a palm tree could land you in hot soup and so could throwing a party at your home! According to the NACADA boss, throwing a party will require you to cough up 1000 shillings to obtain a license.Running to the village to imbibe in your favorite liquor will not be condoned without a license. The draconian law will include police stopping motorists carrying soft drinks and water for a search on roads to ensure that you do not have alcohol in the containers.

Of course Kenyans are not happy with these ridiculous regulations and made their feelings felt:

Yo Andie ‏@YoAndie_ 1m Mututho probably is mad at Jesus for turning water into wine

Caro ‏@emsykay People be dying in clashes yet Mututho here has cops and resources to monitor people who are drinking peacefully in their own homes

Alleged Government Bribery, Lack Of 500,000 And More As Digital Migration In Nairobi Put Off Yet Again

The High Court suspended the planned switch from analogue to digital broadcasting to December 23, to allow determination of a suit filed by media houses challenging the Government plan. When Justice David Majanja suspended the switch off that authorities had scheduled to take effect on Friday in Nairobi, he allowed KTN, NTv and Citizen TV reprieve.

The judge heard arguments by the parties to the digital migration suit yesterday and announced he will rule on the matter on December 23. Three media houses have petitioned the court to stop the Government from switching off their signals in Nairobi on December 13. Justice Majanja extended the time for digital migration by 10 days pending a ruling on the main petition by three media houses — Standard Group, Nation Media group and Royal Media Services. They have challenged the process of the switch from analogue to digital broadcast, saying it is as a violation of the law. Justice Majanja also dismissed the application seeking a three-judge bench, saying the applicants had not raised weighty constitutional questions that need the intervention of a bench. Lawyer Paul Muite had argued the case was of great public interest and constitutional interpretation. “In my view, I can handle the petition and any party that is aggrieved can move to the appeals court as provided by the law,” ruled Justice Majanja. Muite said Nation Media Group’s CEO Linus Gitahi’s sworn statement showed Star Times had issued 5 per cent of their shareholding to government officials in exchange of obtaining licensing unfairly. But Star Times lawyer objected, saying they had followed the due process in obtaining the tender. Muite continued that a joint application for licensing by Nation Media and Royal Media Group had been dismissed for lack of a bond of Sh500,000. He posed, “Can the two media houses lack the money even if it was in cash?”
He said the petitioners had arranged with the Government to have two committees to oversee digital migration. One was to oversee on the technical aspect while the other was to handle investors’ concerns. And the Government acknowledged that investors had ploughed in millions of shillings on infrastructure and control 85 per cent of market share. “We are not opposed to digital migration, but we are questioning why the licensing is being done in a discriminatory manner,” Muite submitted. He prayed for dual-Transmission of both analogue and digital signals, since the respondents in the case had not stated they could be prejudiced. “My client will suffer by losing advertisements and intellectual property content to a competitor who wants to thrive on what the petitioners have spent millions of money to produce,” the counsel said. Consumer Federation of Kenya lawyer Henry Kurauka told the court the economic timing of the switch off was wrong. “The switch off date is being hurried yet the world’s date is set for the year 2015, so why hurry,” Kurauka posed. Cofek said the switch off date coincided with the Kenya at 50 celebrations as well as the funeral requiem mass and eventual burial of world icon Nelson Mandela, and will deny people right to information.

GHAFLA EXCLUSIVE: KTN C.E.O Sam Shollei And Samantha Bridal C.E.O Allegedly Steal Intellectual Property Rights From Baileys Wedding Show Host Noni

I have had many a show producer and creators complain about making TV shows and pitching them to Kenya’s leading media houses. it is always alleged that the networks jack ideas. This is one such case.
Former Wedding Show host and current Baileys Wedding Show host Noni Gathoni is crying foul alleging that KTN’s C.E.O Sam Shollei and Samantha Bridal C.E.O Dr. Samantha Masitsa have stolen her concept.

This is what unfolded:

Uncle Chim Tuna received a tip from his man at the law courts. Apparently, Noni Gathoni had created a new concept with which a wedding show could be produced.
She then went round to the different media stations and attempted to sell her idea, her dream to them. One and all shut her down. They did not see her dream as being worth the investment. She soldiered on.

One day, baileys decided they were going to invest in the concept and they did. That was when all the doors that were previously closed to her opened up. She settled on an offer from NTV. But unbeknownst to her, her rival, Samantha Bridal Show had somehow caught wind of the concept she had been selling and were interested.

<Samantha Masitsa is in the centre>

So interested were they, that Samantha Bridal allegedly stole the concept and due to issues that came about implementing the concept, Noni Gathoni and NTV had to contend with a delay in premiering the show.
KTN and Samantha’s Bridal took full advantage of the situation and let loose their alleged copy.

<Sam Shollei>

Noni Gathoni was distraught. She moved to court to get a “cease and desist” injusnction against KTN and Samantha’s Bridal. The two it is alleged, hapana tambua the rule of law. They flipped one at the courts and went right ahead with their project.

Noni Gathoni has gone to court to seek reprieve. Keep it Ghafla for more as the situation unfolds.

Last Thursday, the African Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards were announced and amongst the 4 Kenyan actors who got nominated Ian Mbugua was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as the flirtatious Chris Taylor in “House of Lungula”!

That’s a great achievement on a Pan African level, especially considering the fact that comedy is not a walk in the park.

CHOAMVA Awards: How Collo Was Allegedly Betrayed By P-Unit For A Clandestine Lover (Chips Funga)

A few days ago, I promised to drop a gem on ’em. I however extended the deadline to allow myself enough time to do “due diligence”. I researched, FINALLY GOT THROUGH TO GABU and spoke to a representative of Multichoice Ltd -one Shose Oyalo.

I also spoke to some industry heavyweights and corporate insiders to find out what transpired and I believe I have a near complete idea of what transpired.

Multichoice for their part are without blame, they did indeed issue the air-tickets for all concerned to attend and participate at the CHOAMVA Awards. P-Unit’s manager who happens to be Bon-Eye’s wife attended. Nothing underhanded in that at all. This is actually where the story however begins to fall apart. Gabu insisted over the phone that they had to pay for her ticket.
Something an insider I spoke to vehemently denied.

P Unit Distances Themselves From An Event They Were 'Purportedly' Set To Headline

Gabu insisted that the allegations that P-Unit screwed Collo over were a rumour and refused to talk beyond asking me for my source and insisting I speak to Multichoice representatives. I reached out to Shose Oyalo.

Well, this is what transpired however:

It is alleged that P-Unit’s Gabu (a father of one), who for a long while now has been alleged to have been having an affair with a top level manager at a leading telecommunications corporation that bought out a Kenyan parastatal, decided that rather than enjoy the company of the man who owns half of the song; Collo, he would rather spend the time with his clandestine lover a.k.a Chips Funga.

Talk about being rough! And from what Uncle Chim Tuna was told, the song which was recorded by prolific producer Musyoka is owned -half by P-Unit as a group and half by Collo. I spoke to Collo who although was angry refused to talk about everything that transpired instead telling me that he wants Kenyan artists to wake up and realized that to go further, they must unite.

To sum it up, Gabu allegedly commandeered Collo’s ticket and gave it to his formerly married chips funga (her marriage allegedly fell apart because of her illicit inkling to share her bed with the artist). As expected, Gabu denied the rumours and asked me to talk to Multichoice.
Everyone I spoke to alleged that he was lying. I reached out to Shose Oyalo. Keep it locked on Ghafla for more information as the story unfolds.

The question still remains however: “Why did Bon Eye and Frasha allegedly allow this travesty to unfold?” Truly rough!

Digital Migration On This Friday

Kenya’s High Court has issued a ruling temporarily suspending Nairobi’s planned digital migration from analogue broadcasting to December 23, 2013, to allow the determination of a suit filed by three media houses challenging the migration.

Justice David Majanja issued the new date after the attorney general, the Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) and other interested parties presented their final submissions and arguments.

Justice Majanja said he will rule on the matter on December 23, extending the migration date by 10 days from the planned Friday deadline, pending the ruling on the main petition by the media houses.

Royal Media Services, Nation Media Group and the Standard Group have challenged the switch citing discrimination against them and claiming violation of the law after being allegedly locked out of the digital migration process.

In his submissions yesterday lawyer Paul Muite, representing the media houses, argued that the application for joint licensing by the media houses was dismissed unfairly and that the petitioners had colluded with the government to oversee the migration.

“We are not opposed to digital migration, but we are questioning why the licensing is being done in a discriminatory manner,”he said

Muite asked the court to allow his clients to transmit signals through dual-transmission of both analogue and digital signals, since the respondents in the case had not stated they could be prejudiced.

“My client will suffer by losing advertisements and intellectual property content to a competitor who wants to thrive on what the petitioners have spent millions of money to produce,” he said

On the matter of availability of set-top boxes and prices, CCK lawyer Wambua Kilonzo said there was no obligation on the signal distributor to provide digital set-top boxes to consumers and the decision to buy the set-top boxes belongs to consumers and not broadcasters.

Justice Majanja also dismissed the application by Muite seeking a three-judge bench to hear the petition.

“The applicants had not raised weighty constitutional questions that need the intervention of a bench,” Majanja said

“In my view, I can handle the petition and any party that is aggrieved can move to the appeals court as provided by the law.”

Ratchet Edition: Top 13 Sexiest Female Celebrities Of 2013

Yesterday, I told the story about my quest to find the sexiest celebrities in the land and indeed, it was quite the riveting tale. The sexiest ladies were found but on the same quest, I came across some rather beautiful wenches whom I feel were enough to warrant a separate list of their own. The reason I chose to put some of the lasses on this list in this particular list is because while they are indeed beautiful and sexy, they are either still rough around the edges or lack proper dress etiquette or would routinely shoot from the mouth and forget that a lady must remain poised, calm and collected at all times. Some of the ladies on this list are straight ratchet while some had a ratchet moment too many this year.

That said, this list is about to make me a couple of enemies more but watch as I proceed to give a buck.

And the ladies on my list are:

#13. Alysha Bluemits (Video Vixen)

Alysha is one of the new discoveries of the year but she is still as yet fairly unknown. She has managed to inject some life in a couple of events and music videos with her lively character and amazing body.

#12. Shee Waruinge -Socialite

The lass release a belly dancing video earlier in the year and has been involved in one too many tweefs for my liking. The thing about ladies is that they shouldn’t deign such petty squabbles as the type to be found on social media as worthy of their attention.

#11. Eva Saida -Model

Admittedly, she gained prominence through dubious means yet still something must be said about a lass who is a go-getter. And Eva certainly is that.

#10. Gin Ideal -Rapper

#9. Sylvia Omboto -Video Vixen

Ratchet rarely gets sexier than this.

#8. Maura Malanga -Video Vixen

The lads in the office would be livid if I ever wrote a l;ist such as this and it didn’t have Maura Malanga. Especially Vince.

#7. Angel Maggie -Video Vixen and Model

The lass who first came to the limelight through a date on Tujuane quickly became the must have lass on set of any video shoot. That is because the model is sexy.

#6. Saliva Vic -Socialite

This has to be the scruffiest of them all. The lass acts like she is on one long P.M.S trip talking rubbish rather than concentrating on the ratings of her show on Hits FM.

#5. Shiks Kapyenga -Actress

This lass is a huge disappointment. She is beautiful, she is funny and she is outgoing. I wanted her on the glamour edition of the sexiest lasses yet she continually refuses to dress up and be a lady. I understand that she is a tomboy but that is the reason why the rest of the lads at Gh! refused to let me add her to that list and she instead lands here.

#4. Pendo

This is the undisputed queen of the ratchet lasses but her sex appeal wasn’t enough to get her top spot. her scrapes with the law, friends and club owners is what has made the year.

#3. Vicky Kimani -Singer

From taking subliminal shots at Ghafla to not quite deciding whether she want to be a glamorous diva or bring black America to Kenya, the lass who is Bamboos sister makes the list.

And before anyone whines, you never see Nicki Minaj trying to fit in with the ladies now do you?

#2. Huddah Monroe -Socialite and Video Vixen

I find this lady unbelievably sexy. she has flawless skin, beautiful feature3s and a lithe, flexible frame. Unfortunately, she has an attitude and can;’t seem to refrain from getting into scrapes online.

#1. Vera Sidika -Video Vixen

vera is by far the most intelligent lass on this list. Instead of bitching about notoriety, she turned it into assets. real assets. A house in Lasgidi (Lagos) to land in Kenya and two business ventures under her name. She turned booty shaking on the song “You Guy” into all that.

Mohammed Ali’s Jicho Pevu’s Westgate Expose Backed Up By Celebrated American Police Force

A statement by the New York Police Department that looked into the September terror attacks at Westgate reveals that only four gunmen were involved and the worst part is that they may have escaped.

Well,American basic cable and satellite news television channel “Fox News” got their hands on the report and gave a comprehensive story on the report. This is what they had to say about the said report.

The report, released Tuesday, casts new doubts on the official story of the attack, which began September 21 when gunmen from the Al Qaeda-linked Somali terror group Al-Shabab attacked the mall, a popular spot among Western diplomats and tourists. After a siege by Kenyan authorities, followed by several explosions that resulted in the partial collapse of the mall on the morning of September 24, government officials claimed that the site had been cleared and that four attackers had died.

“As a cop, I’m very skeptical of claims until I see proof,” NYPD Lt. Det. Kevin Yorke, who prepared and presented the report, said at a press conference Tuesday, adding that there was “a lot of doubt in my mind it is true.”

The report suggests that the four terrorists left the mall long before Kenyan authorities declared the scene cleared.

According to the report, there is no evidence that any of the gunmen remained in the mall past 12:15 a.m. September 22, the last time they were seen on the mall’s closed-circuit TV system. In fact, the report claims that the attack itself lasted a mere six hours, after which the terrorists huddled in a storeroom, prayed, and tended to one of their colleagues, who had been wounded in the attack’s early moments.

The Kenyan government has said that between 10 and 15 gunmen, some of whom may have been foreign fighters, were involved in the attack that left more than 60 civilians dead. The report says that the four gunmen worked in teams of two, entering the mall at two different locations and carrying only AK-47 machine guns and grenades. In contrast to reports at the time of the siege, the gunmen were not carrying handguns, nor were they wearing body armor.

The report is highly critical of the response by Kenyan authorities, saying that a tactical response team did not arrive at Westgate until 90 minutes after the attack began. Police — who were fully armed, but were not carrying identification — entered the complex and were fired upon by Kenyan soldiers who had also been summoned. The friendly fire incident killed the tactical response team’s commander and wounded another officer.

The report also says that Kenyan police “had no idea what the mall looked like internally,” and didn’t know they could access the mall’s closed circuit TV system.
The report dismisses claims by Kenyan authorities that the gunmen set mattresses on fire to create a literal smokescreen, and suggests that the mall’s collapse may have been caused by the Kenyan military’s use of rocket-propelled grenades and anti-tank missiles. The heat from the fires caused by the resulting explosions may have weakened the mall’s structure.

The report does back testimony of eyewitnesses who claimed the gunmen targeted non-Muslims for killing, asking them to recite Muslim prayers and name the mother of the Muslim prophet Muhammad. The report says that no hostages appeared to have been taken, and that no women were involved, despite reports in the Kenyan and British press that the so-called “White Widow,” aka British-born Samantha Lewthwaite, played a key role in planning or executing the attack.

The report also acknowledges “significant” evidence that Kenyan soldiers looted the mall during and following the siege.
The report is the outcome of an investigation by the NYPD, who sent several detectives to Nairobi in the aftermath of the attack with the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Citizen TV Shares A Glimpse Of The Behind The Scenes At The Late great Nelson Mandela’s Memorial Mass (PHOTOS)

Citizen TV were invited to South Africa to cover the memorial mass of South African statesman Nelson “Madiba” Mandela and they were there representing Kenya and informing us on the proceedings. A job I feel they did rather well. That said however, they also have decided to give us a peak beneath the curtains and that is what I want to share with you:

GHAFLA POLL RESULT: What Do You Think Of The New Look Kiss TV? Is It A Win Or A Fail?

Yesterday, I sought to find out whether Kenyans like the new look Kiss TV and the feedback was overwhelming. The votes however, were split. The “nays” were nearly overtaking the “ayes”. Simply put, the people who like the new look Kiss TV were barely more than those that do not.

I was asked what my reasoning was for splitting the ayes and I responded that there are some people who just do not give a squirt about telly or Kiss TV whatever the case. And they seem to be more than the people who flat out do not like Kiss TV for one reason or another.

And for those of you who love statistics, this is what the votes betrayed:

It Is Horrible! It Should Never Have Changed – 25.7%

It Is A Good Change – 39.8%

Meh! I still Won’t Watch It – 34.5%

British Media Lampoon Sonko For The Photo-Shopped Picture Of Him And Mandela. Compare Sonko To The Spice Girls

Last week, Kenyans on Twitter lampooned for his failed attempt at photoshop which sought to make him look like he had shared a moment with Mandela, the late great African statesman. Well, the British tabloid “The Independent” caught wind of the story and ran with it. This is what they had to say about the entire affair:

From Tony Blair to the Spice Girls, everyone wanted to be pictured with Nelson Mandela.

So when this man was faced with the thought of being one of the few politicians without a picture next to the great man, he got creative.

Quick-thinking Kenyan politico Mike Sonko came up with an ingenious solution.

On the day of Mandela’s death, the Senator for Nairobi, Mike Sonko uploaded a photo of himself in the arms of an aging but still spry Mandela to his personal Facebook page. However, it didn’t take long for users of the site to recognise a badly photoshopped image when they saw one.

Internet sleuths quickly found the original image; one of a broadly grinning Mandela cuddling up to heavyweight boxing champion Muhammed Ali, seemingly decades ago.

Getty

Responses across social networks varied from branding him an “attention whore” to the most basic “ugh”, with one critic asking, “What are you? A senator or a socialite?”

To some the problem was clear. On Facebook, Irene Owili-Oyugi quickly saw through the deception: “Someone should have told Sen. Mbuvi that the great Mandela was a very tall guy, much taller than him!”

Reddit user “ZincHead” claimed, perhaps sarcastically, not to see a problem. They said: “Mandela was just a bit blurry that day. Nothing suspicious here.”

Mike Sonko was elected as an MP in 2010, but while serving, was kicked out of Parliament for wearing earrings and sunglasses. He was then elected senator for Nairobi in 2013, and has come to be seen as an icon of youth empowerment and a fighter for the rights of poor people in Kenya.

This isn’t his first brush with photoshop notoriety either. In October, Sonko claimed that images of him with another politician, Rachael Shebesh, in bed, were photoshopped.

Rabbit Embroiled in Song Jacking Drama. Did He Steal One of the Songs off His Much Hyped Album?

It’s not only disappointing but also embarrassing (on the artist’s part) when you learn that an artist has stolen a section of a song or the entire song and gets rich off of it!While it may be argued that all great artists get their inspiration from other great artists, lyrist Rabbit is one of the many who is being accused of taking too much.

His most recent crime – allegedly stealing a track produced by the industrious Wawesh Mjanja – is only one of a handful of incidents in which the “Ligi Soo” singer has encountered plagiarism claims. The song in question is off his album, “Before The Success| Success Begins Now”, which will be the FIRST ever double disc in Kenya.

The track in contention, “Bado Nakupenda” was allegedly jacked from a popular back in the day band, ‘Safari Sound Band’ that ruled in the 80’s. The guy who claims to be the famous band’s agent has in fact filed a case at the Nairobi Law Courts and the hearing is next week and there are high chances that the prosecutor may stop the launch of the so-much hyped album scheduled for 20th December.

Safari_Sound_Band.jpg

On his part, Rabbit says the albums are ready for distribution following successful recording and print of the covers. In his defense, Rabbit says he got permission from one of the original band members and that’s when he decided to record the track.

For now, Rabbit is going ahead with the album launch at Louis Leakey, Museum Hill in 10 days’ time at a limited-ticket event.

Success_Begins_CAMPUS.jpg

Rabbit is now the latest entry on the long list of popular musical acts whose originality has previously been called into question.

Do you think Rabbit will emerge victorious following the copyright-infringement claims?
