Matters of Fashion have always intrigued me, everyone one loves fashion, but sometimes in the clamor to look good or pass as fashionable we miss a step- like Robert Mugabe, and when we fall sometimes (like mugabe) we should rise again like phoenixes from ashes and probably enact a comeback, This has however not been the case with Citizen’s Tv Fashion watch, a segment by Lillian Muli that focuses on Fashion in Kenya: Who wore what , who wore it best, who looked like the drag queen , who rocked, Who didn’t -you get the drill.
I was an avid follower of the program, I would sit up every Saturday night and wait with bated breath to be blown away by the self-appointed “Fashion-gods”They mesmerized me with their knowledge of “chic ” their prowess in “retro-fashion” and other fashionable terms that literally brought TV to a Standstill. But the panelists looked odd, There in her signature shock of red hair was Carol Odero, whose knowledge in matters of fashion is beyond speculation., close at heel was Robert Bulale, an image consultant whose renown is unrivaled, Annabel Onyango Came third, her nose ring standing out like white in black, her locks tied in a lopsided chignon at the top of her head, the last member of the skewed round table was Judge Ian, a Man whose gray hair is a reminder of the old-age that is quickly settling in, but nevertheless, the man who has made a name for himself for speaking out his mind.
Then the elegant hostess who had called party came, Lillian Muli Kanene, then the vilification started, they harangued the Kenyan elite like the perfect Fashion police pact. It was fun and captivating to watch. But somewhere along the way they lost it!
Robert and Lilian are the only people on that panel who seem to have figured out how to look stylish, the others? They just wear “kawaida” clothes while lecturing us on Fashion.
I have no intention of vilifying Annabel and Carol, they are really good at what they do, so are Robert and Ian, What I think is that they shouldn’t be on the fashion watch, because they are a little bit “off”, and being “off” is not considered “chic” the panelist are more of Fashion than they are of style,.”…Fashion involves the clothes themselves, while style is how you use the clothes…” Samantha Wolov
It is still not clear what the role a TPF judge plays in the Fashion watch. His critique on fashion ills is on point but uncalled for- picture this, say you just left the Shamba(maybe in my Village at Mathioya) and you are covered in filth and smelling like rot and manure, on the way home you meet your friends who have been toiling in the shamba, they all look like you, filthy and smelly, do you start engaging them on a discourse about the importance of taking a shower at least twice a day?
Is it appropriate if the kettle calls the pot black?

Maybe the quartet should do a little soul searching before they go on the screen, we need to see the real deal on the screen, Not a team of experts dealing with “mid-life crises” Talk about fashion and look Fashionable. Me thinks Lillian (who I consider really fashionable) should do away with the whole boring team and get a couple of fashion bloggers (Annabel and Bulale could remain) and stylists, get different people for every show. That way, we would have more variety and and wouldn’t have to deal with the pains of “The Kettle Calling the pot black”
