Barely hours after controversial man of the cloth Victor Kanyari made a controversial comeback since the famous expose by Moha and Namu, another man of God has hit the headlines with one of the weirdest acts in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

The two incidences come as a coincidence to remind Kenyans of how the church has been turned into a playground where revered men of the cloth play all sorts of dirty games to meet their desires and needs.

Kanyari is well known within our confines as the unapologetic preacher who steals from congregants with a promise of miracles and other great things. He appeared on Churchill Show on Sunday and admitted that he is not the man to lead to heaven. His is money and power.

Well, his counterpart has made headlines from the other side of the town.

Ruiru town

Pastor Anthony Mutua of Upendo Pentecostal Church in Kahawa Wendani has been arrested after sodomising a 24-year old man in the name of exorcising demons.

Ruiru subcounty AP commander Hesbon Lusweti said the victim went to the pastor’s house in Kitambaya estate in Ruiru for prayers when the pastor turned on him and said he would only exorcise the demons he harboured by sodomising him.

The sick man gave in and the pastor did his thing and sent him away, promising him to wait for between two days and a week for the sickness to disappear.

However, after waiting for a week, the victim did not get well and this prompted him to report the matter to the police who arrested the suspect.

Pastor Mutua is said to admit to have sodomised the victim and he will be presented in court to face charges.

Is this the direction the church is heading? Horrible indeed.

(Reuters) – U.S. President Barack Obama will visit Kenya in July for the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Summit, his fourth trip to sub-Saharan Africa during his presidency, the White House said in a statement on Monday.

 It has been confirmed, the president has kept his promise of visiting the country of his birth during his second tenure in office as president of the super power. He will be expected to come into the country on 23 rd July. How long he shall be in the country is yet to be confirmed. 

 

 

The ever glowing Ebru TV’s anchor, Kamene Goro, is now limping all thanks to a broken ankle. She now has a plaster on her leg.

It was a small accident yet it would see her walk with crutches. Kamene Goro can no longer wear shoes or walk on her own.

How she got the plaster on her leg will even surprise you. Kamene was just walking on the lawn when the unforeseen happened.

She was tripped by grass and she fell on her ankle, just like that and Kamene was condemned to three weeks of partial mobility.

We wish her a quick recovery.

Many Kenyans tend to attach much hype and respect to some professions which they think are wealthier and well-paying than others. They look down upon some and think or tend to believe they are not as competitive as others.

Well, celebrated comedian Eric Omondi has come out strongly to defend comedy amid these ugly perceptions from a section of Kenyans.

Speaking exclusively to Ghafla Kenya, Eric has revealed that he earns big chunks of money from his engagements in comedy unlike what many Kenyans tend to think.

Eric admits that it is comedy which has made him what he is today.

“Comedy pays well, so well. I live well, I eat well and sleep well because of comedy,” Eric tells Ghafla amid a broad smile on his face.

He admits that it is through comedy that he pays his bills and meets his needs.

It is therefore a surprise that what many people look down upon is what others comfortably live on. Many comedians have grown rich before thanks to their engagements in comedy.

They are famous and wealthy thanks to comedy. The likes of Nyambane and Churchill are a living testimony.

Stories of alcohol-induced shenanigans elicit a barrel of laughs and we enjoy a bottle of alcohol from time to time, but we forget how debilitating alcohol can be when you are addicted to it.

We recently lost a great entertainer to alcohol his name; “Crispo” Ogolla to this scourge. This is according to a Facebook Post by Churchill comedian Titus Wagithomo who also revealed that alcoholism is a huge problem in the entertainment industry:

Just saaaaaad. Another great Thespian succumbs to alcoholism. This is a great problem we have in the industry. We talk about it, joke about it but it is a silent killer. It is with great disbelief that we say, Rest in peace “Crispo” Ogolla.

He also revealed the latest news on Crespo’s funeral arrangements:
On Saturday 4th April all the artistes will go for a night vigil at Kariobangi South. And on Sunday 5th April a major Harambee will be held in Crispo’s honor at The Kenya National Theatre (KNT) from 3pm.

The Churchill Show is arguably one of the most watched TV shows in Kenya today thanks to its ability to crack viewers’ ribs with fine comedy and a host of guests who wow many with their stories. Daniel Ndambuki, aka Churchill, the founder of the show and Kenya’s finest comedian has built a brand for himself from the show, becoming famous like the Winston Churchill speech of 1945.

Yesterday, however, was a different day for the comedian and his show. Instead of the usual acclaim he receieves, Churchill has been on the receiving end of bashes and backlash from irritated Kenyans after the comedian hosted controversial preacher Victor Kanyari.

It was the first time Kanyari appeared in the limelight since the famous expose by KTN’s Moha and Namu. The expose shocked the nation when it was revealed that Kanyari was a rogue preacher who preyed in his unknowing congregants by promising them miracles that never existed.

The country was raged and bayed for the preacher’s blood. Many demanded that he be charged for fraudulently acquiring hard-earned money from innocent congregants. That, to date, has not happened.

As Kanyari made his way to the podium at the Carnivore grounds where the live recording of the show takes place, the crowd under the roof rambled and giggled in excitement. And as expected, Churchill welcomed him with a joke that sent the crowd laughing their ribs out.

Kanyari roared in the building like a hungry lioness exhausted from a day’s unsuccessful hunt. He bragged how he swindles money from the congregants, how he grabbed those breasts of one of his faithful and how he acquired that range rover sport and his wealth despite being a form two drop-out.

The gathering went wild as Churchill and his co-host MC Jessy Jasper complemented his pride with their comedy jokes.

Everybody in the building went wild as they got excited at the preacher’s confessions. Kanyari agreed to swindle money from his faithful and said he has never forced anyone to give him money. He also agreed to grab a married woman’s boob.

It was after the show that Churchill realized he was on the receiving end of severe criticism and scorn from utterly disgusted Kenyans. I mean law abiding Kenyans. Kenyans who have remained so religious and whom Kanyari was trying to swindle into sin.

Among those bashing Churchill include Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo and former radio personality Ciku Muiruri. The two ladies of substance took to their social media platforms to blast the comedian for giving Kanyari a chance to brag how he has stolen from Kenyans. They are not the only ones. Many more Kenyans have expressed their displeasure at the happenings.

Well, Ciku Muiruri is forgetting that infamous lift she got from one of the Arthur brothers to ‘create that famous space’. Millie Mabona is forgetting she is embroiled in corruption scandals and getting an ODM certificate fraudulently to win the Mbita parliamentary seat.

This is the problem with Kenyans. We tend to forget the ills we have committed and stick our necks and noses out to what others do. We are bootlickers who want to please some people at the expense of others even when there is no need.

Look, Churchill had every right to host Kanyari and I have reasons to say this.

First, almost every media house has been on the run to reach out to Kanyari after that expose. Larry Madowo almost landed him in his The Trend show only for the preacher to rescind his decision at the last minute. Madowo and NTV felt so much let down by the rogue preacher. Kanyari to date makes the best news for us all. Landing him for an interview could be the greatest achievement of the day. So why are some people bitter after Churchill managed to land him for his show? It was an achievement that we should all extol.

Secondly, what did we expect from Kanyari after all? An apology? To return the money? Come on Kenyans. Sensible Kenyans expected confessions from the preacher. We expected him to talk about the expose and why he swindled money from innocent congregants. And that is exactly what he did. We did not expect him to say sorry. We know he is proud. Neither did we expect him to return the stolen cash through his Panda Mbegu ya 310 project.

Third, Churchill is a comedian. He knows his work too well. There is no way, believe me, a comedian will wow everyone listening or watching him/her. Every joke comedians make must be opposed from some quarters. The tribal jokes that some of our comedians have used to pay their bills sometimes anger us. But do we rush to the social media to blast Fred Omondi or YY or Sleepy? No. Churchill and some of us knew Kanyari’s appearance would spark mixed reactions from Kenyans who like bootlicking others.

Someone is asking why Churchill and MC Jessy seemed to glorify Kanyari’s actions. Well, at first you would think they were but a keen study and some knowledge on comedy will tell you that Churhcill and MC Jessy have skill and talent for comedy. There was no way they would get answers from Kanyari if they sat there shocked at the preacher’s actions. They had to participate and this was the best way to make the preacher happy and make him vomit his rot even more. They should be lauded for this, surely.

And for the happy crowd who cheered and jeered Kanyari in equal measure? Well, you are a Kenyan, You know what you love most. Those weird things that make little sense are your favourite. You cannot run away from this. This then helps explain why some were happy while others jeered. To drive the point home, ask yourself why even after the expose the same same congregants flock Kanyari’s church for the gospel. Then you have an answer to the last question.

 

 

It won’t be long before we see TV phasing out all male presenters as their female counterparts take over and rule the airwaves for many more years to come. This is actually what we expect because it has started happening, though gradually and steadily.

A keen look into our TV stations will tell you that majority of those who appear on our prime time news are ladies, an indication that male presenters on TV are becoming extinct.

But before that happens, there are those male TV anchors who have defied this gradual change to remain on TV and make that very important difference. Not only are they photogenic but also very smart and professionally well equipped to swim with the tide of the ever changing dynamics in the field of journalism.

These are the men to watch in 2015. The list cuts across the media houses, with some having more than one representative. However, some may not agree with this list because everyone has their favourite anchor. But this is one very undisputable list.

They include:

Mark Masai – NTV

He is arguably one of the finest male faces on TV in Kenya today. He is almost every lady’s favourite news presenter. The other day I was sharing this chat with my female friends and randomly asked them who appealed to them most among the male anchors they know in the country. Almost all of them had Mark Masai coming out of their lips excitedly. When former Tujuane host Yvonne Bulimo told Ghafla Kenya she had a crush on Mark Masai, she definitely was not wrong.

Mark Masai is not cool in front of cameras. The lad has a masterly of the queen’s language. He is photogenic, appealing to the audience with his ever smiling face and does not make noise like some news anchors we know. News just becomes good news when Mark and Smirthi are on air.

Mark has brains too. He is a graduate of the Catholic University, according to a document we found online, with a degree in social communication. Above all he is saved and perhaps this is what has been his driving force. Mark is the man to definitely watch in 2015 and perhaps the man to define our TV journalism in the near future.

John Allan Namu – KTN

He is KTN’s most established and long serving investigative journalist alongside his colleague Mohamed Ali. Namu has always done investigative pieces that at some point landed him a coveted CNN award in South Africa, thanks to his prowess and ability to bring out a story clearly and effectively.

I have personally met Namu and shared a word with him. Despite unearthing the most untold stories of our time and which at some point have threatened his dear life, Namu is one of the down-to-earth guys on TV. He is cool, soft-spoken but tough and realistic.

When he is not in the field disinterring those very secretive stories, Namu is on screen alongside Yvonne Okwara Matole reading prime time news. It is here that the anchor wows many with his composed nature and ability to bring news out that it makes the sense it should. Namu is arguably a man to watch in 2015.

Hussein Mohamed – Citizen TV

Hussein Mohamed is Citizen TV’s face when it comes to appearing on screen. He is not as cool as Mark Masai or John Allan Namu, but on his ever jovial mood he is tough, true and precise. Don’t forget that he is also prolific and perhaps his proliferation is what makes him one of the coveted TV anchors in Kenya today.

I must admit I have no much know-how on Hussein’s background but what I know for sure is Hussein is among the male news presenters who have turned out to be many fans’ favourites.

His combination with co-host Janet Mbugua is incredible on TV. They look young and energetic and have never faltered on prime news presentation. We have reasons to believe Hussein Mohamed will be the man to watch in 2015 and many more years to come.

Ben Kitili – KTN

I heard him some day say that he studied at Strathmore University. He surely befits that. Ben first made his debut on NTV as a reporter and later a news anchor before shifting to KTN where he has grown to become an integral part in the Standard Group-owned TV station.

Ben is very composed in front of camera and his language is not disappointing either. His days at NTV made him what he is and he has carried that to KTN where he continues to prove himself with nice appearances on TV. Ben Kitili definitely makes it to the list of TV anchors to watch in 2015.

Larry Madowo – NTV

Noisy like a hungry hornbill, ever smiling but tough, true and strict. Larry Madowo is one of the few guys who have arguably garnered massive following both on social media and TV.

The self-proclaimed father of twitter in Kenya and Africa has continued to be many people’s talk in town thanks to his ability to face even the toughest in very serious and hot interviews. He has done it before and succeeded with prominent and eminent persons, something earning backlash from a section of the society for his straightforward, tough questions.

The Daystar University drop-out makes more sense than he would have done had completed his undergraduate studies. He admits he dropped out in second year but that did not break him down. He is strong, well informed and more knowledgeable than many of us could think.

Larry Madowo just defines 2015 already. He is not photogenic as such but his ability to present, host interviews, write and speak sense make him one of the most sought after news anchors.

 

Over the weekend, the Kenyan party scene was alive with events from Naivasha to Nairobi.Some of us however opted for a quite boring weekend. Upon resurfacing this morning, our timeline was rife with anti-Davido sentiments.

Apparently Davido had misbehaved and stormed out of the Trend. ‘Unbelievable!’ I thought before rushing to You Tube to catch up on all I had missed when I was away from civilization.

I watched the Larry interview and apart from the fidgeting, swinging and general fidgetiness of Davido, the interview was not as bad as it was put out and thankfully there was no walking out.

But Kenyans were not satisfied with how Davido carried himself during the trend and Kenyans have made their feelings knows, even celebs such as Fred Obachi Machoka of Radio Citizen and Aaron Rimbui chimed in:

Churchill’s mishaps aren’t ending anytime soon! The comedy king is one again on the receiving end after his noble deed turned catastrophic.

Dear Lord, why did you forsake Daniel “Churchill” Ndambuki aka Mwalimu King’ang’i? He was once the darling of many, now he is the handkerchief folks are using to blow their noses with.

Only last week he stepped on the ladies’ toes with his comment regarding the woman who was allegedly raped by Imenti Central Member of Parliament, Gideon Mwiti Irea, and charged feminists tore him apart.

This week, Churchill probably thought he will be beating his chest for being the first person to host controversial preacher, Victor Kanyari, after he went mum following KTN’s exposé. But as fate would have it, Kenyans On Twitter (KOT) decided to whip his behind.

Churchill show is currently trending third on Twitter all thanks to the demeaning insults that KOT is pumping in.

Poor Churchill how I wish he could have done some digging to find out what Kenyans thought about him hosting the despised man of god. Anyway, it’s a lesson well learnt and Churchill is a big boy, he definitely can rise above the hate; John Cena style.
