Who, in their right mind, ever thought human waste could be as precious as it has been discovered recently? It something we take to the lavatories, send them down with much hate and displeasure, zip up, tighten our belts and walk out like we have done nothing.

However, a study carried out recently, if at all it is to be believed, will leave you wondering why you did not know this in advance.

Experts who conducted the study say that human feces contain gold and other precious metals that could be worth hundreds of millions of dollars and retrieving the gold and precious metals will help reduce the effects of global warming and pollution.

“The gold we found was at the level of a minimal mineral deposit,” said Kathleen Smith, of the US Geological Survey, after her team discovered metals such as platinum, silver and gold in treated waste.

“There are metals everywhere — in your hair care products, detergents, even nanoparticles that are put in socks to prevent bad odours.”

Smith and her team are on a mission to find out exactly what is in our waste.

“We have a two-pronged approach. In one part of the study, we are looking at removing some regulated metals from the biosolids that limit their use for land application.”

“In the other part of the project, we’re interested in collecting valuable metals that could be sold, including some of the more technologically important metals, such as vanadium and copper that are in cell phones, computers and alloys,” said Smith.

The findings were presented at the 249th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest scientific society, taking place in Denver through Thursday.

A hollow-eyed, feeble Mzee Ojwang was rescued by Sonko’s rescue team recently and we could not help but flinch in embarrassment.

The veteran actor who had entertained us for decades and performed in front of presidents and V.I.P’s was a far cry from his legendary status. He was suffering from partial blindness and his condition was deteriorating badly and no help was forthcoming until Sonko’s team came in.

He was rescued from a humble abode and many wondered how he was still languishing in poverty after all these years. Had KBC abandoned him after he worked for them faithfully? Had we let him down as Kenyans?

 

My colleague Cabu Gah caught up with Ngomongo, another star of Vitimbi a man who has lived in Dandora since 1985 and was still living in squalor. He lived in a 2 bed roomed house in Dandora Phase 1 alongside his two sons in high school.

What happened to these people we asked ourselves, were they ripped off or were they well paid but decided to squander their savings?

Reports that Mama Kayai and Mzee Ojwang’ had been fired infuriated us even further and KBC was eyeballed angrily for letting down their stars.

We sought to find out how Vitimbi died and how the stars ended up wasting away poverty from a trusted source in the confines of the station.

The source revealed that the Vitimbi crew were the weavers of their own destiny, that they are suffering because of their own slip-ups. There was actually a point they were pocketing 150,000 shillings per month and allegedly earned even more than the news anchors. But they misspent it. To make matters worse, they decided that they no longer wanted Vitimbi to be part of KBC, something which blew up in their faces considering they made Vitimbi a personal business venture.

In addition, the team failed to ‘adapt to the times’ and thus locked out advertisers, making them a liability and forcing KBC to cut them off completely.

As if proving she meant business, the daring law maker turned up in Ethiopia at The Women in Parliaments Global Forum dressed in her traditional Mijikenda attire.

She revealed she dressed so to challenge other women to embrace their cultures and most probably to put on their traditional outfits like she wants with coastal women.

One thing though wasn’t right! The Senator’s bosom was well canceled, no matter how much one would try zooming in their camera, all you could see was a well covered bust. So why did she tell other women to freely expose their tities when she safely hide hers in the vault? She is still a hypocrite, at least she should have led by example and flaunt her twins.

I didn’t ask that question. Popular comedian and radio host,Churchill,did. He may have done it jocularly. Or to ignite an innocent conversation… But it flopped. Disastrously.

Comedian Churchill is nor the only man whose reasoning, after the alleged rape of a woman by Igembe MP Gideon Mwiti was warped. And illogical. After that very savage act,I had a chat with at least three male pals yesterday over lunch. And after I brought up that rape topic,their reasoning, very dumb reasoning,floored me.

Churchill,one of Kenya’s most respectable and venerated public figures stirred quite the hornet’s nest yesterday when he infamously asked,

“So,A Married Woman agrees to meet a honorable MALE MP at 10.30pm?? ALONE??”

Churchill even emphasized the words MALE and ALONE by capitalizing them…Well,he must have thought it was funny…But the joke was on him.

Given Churchill’s famously harmless nature and genial character,It would be easy to really pin him. And brand him a sexist. Or a warped male chauvinist.. But twitter users really did rail at him. Good and proper. In their wrathful droves.

If Churchill was to be plainly understood, comedic undertones aside,it would be that a married woman had herself set up her own fate for,despite the fact that she was married,and also a woman,deciding to show up at some other man’s office past 10pm.

If we have to take Churchill,or the men I had lunch with seriously, it would mean that THE BLAME was on the woman…For,despite her condition (sic),which is being a woman,she allowed herself to walk into a MAN’S office past 10pm.

Here’s the thing,Ladies. Next time You plan to stroll into some man’s office past 10pm,You are ripe for rape. No questions should be asked thereafter.

“Lakini wacha nikuulize Cabu Gah…Kama huyu dame alikuwa ameolewaaa…Anaduu mini na MP kwa ofisi yake saa nne usiku?” One of my male colleagues asked,matter-of-factly.

“Exactly! Mtu kama ameolewa akae home! Bwanako ako home na wewe uko tu nje kwa ofisi za Mambuyu. Boss,what do You expect!??” Another MALE pal of mine interjected.

“Huyu dame aseme ukweli…Kama ni deal ilienda mbaya aseme…Labda ni deal ilienda mbaya halafu anakam hapa kudai ati ame-rape-iwa…”

Well,I listened to these blokes debate. And watched how spiritedly they projected their objectionable theories. And cringed.

“Kama alikuwa ana-rape-iwa,alitoa time ya kutext bwanake wapi??” Another chauvinist posed…

Obviously,he forgot that rape is NOT like a seizure…that attacks You with no absolute warning or prior preparation. A rapist,it has been proved,will not perform his heinous act until after he has,consistently or systematically,led the girl on,enticed her,showed signs of amorousness and engineered unsolicited for sexual overtures for  a period of time. Which is exactly what Hon. Gideon Mwiti did before he ultimately pounced on the hapless girl,devouring her like the savage he is.

“Listen Up! There can NEVER be any justification for rape! Never! No matter where You were ..Or what she did…” I tried reasoning.

But my expositions were drowned by these pleasure-thirsty sexists to whom a woman is solely to blame for her rape.

I’ve never heard a more fallacious theory. Or sat through a more revolting debate. But I was shocked that,as it was published on this article yesterday,a huge section on social media was too blaming the lady for her tribulations.

Many shameless men,both on Twitter and Facebook,found no shame in questioning the integrity of the woman vis-à-vis the circumstances that led to her supposed rape…forgetting that,before the act was committed,this dishonorable member had first forcibly plied the woman with generous doses of alcohol against her own volition.

It was roundly agreed,by these packs of sexist hounds,that a woman would be HELD RESPONSIBLE if any sexual crimes were perpetrated AGAINST her.

I am yet to understand HOW the 5-year old girl that was raped in Embakasi by a Sudanese National-who was later shockingly released on bond-had enticed the demented,profligate refugee.

A man that’s bound to rape is bound to rape. Enticement or no.

A pervert doesn’t adhere to time or place or reason or conjecture. A pervert obeys his licentious urge…to grab,grop and rape. Anytime the urge pops up.

A rapist will do it when a woman’s fully clothed. And when she’s semi-clothed.

A rapist will do it when a woman’s 90-years old. And when she’s 5 years old.

A rapist will do it when the woman’s a relative and when she’s a stranger.

A rapist will do it when a woman’s attractive or otherwise.

These dogs are as stupid as the hounds supporting them.

THERE CAN NEVER BE ANY JUSTIFICATION FOR RAPE.

Whether she shows up at 10pm. Or 12am. If she says NO,then its a NO. Her attire notwithstanding. End of story.

So what was a MARRIED WOMAN doing at a very vile and dishonorable MP’s Office past 10pm?? Definitely NOT soliciting for a rape session.

Question answered.

An understandably distraught Willy Paul took to Facebook yesterday pleading with his fans to help him find his mom.

He says that his mum has been unwell for some time and left for Chama unaccompanied, still sickly. Nothing has been heard from her since her departure and she is not available via phone.

 

His mum was last seen dressed in black rubber shoes , a white long skirt, a black blouse and a leso.

For those that d not know her, here is Willy Paul’s mother in a photo that he shared on Instagram early this year.

Rape, sexual assault. Rape, sexual harassment. Rape, soliciting for sexual favours. What has come of our esteemed parliament? From corruption, to nepotism to rape, the August House has greatly been brought into disrepute, with the citizenry feeling severely betrayed by the men and women they elected to represent their interests. But are these the interests they are representing? Well, it is just very appalling.

Yesterday saw two male MPs accused of rape and sexual harassment, with the public clearly disgusted by the sagas surrounding Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti, Turbo MP Elisha Busienei and Juja MP Francis Waititu.

This has even prompted TV queen Beatrice Gatonye of KBC to weigh in on the issue, clearl showing her disgust at the incident.

Through her social media accounts, Gatonye has blasted those who perpetrate rape incidents and called upon victims to come out and speak about it.

The Darubini host says that many victims chose to keep quiet about it and suffer in silence while perpetrators walk freely in the streets.

 

This here, ladies and gentlemen goes down as the best TV series of all time, full of intrigue, thrill, drama and laughter, what it fails in delivering is made up for by the impeccably written script, the cast, but most importantly, the language that will have you glued to the screen until the whole drama hits climax.

Credit musical director and hit hip-hop producer Timbaland for spicing up Empire with head-turning tracks that actually sound like they could be big radio hits.

Terrence Howard plays Lucious Lyon, a rapper-turned-music mogul with three sons; secretly stricken with a serious disease, he wants to groom an heir as their company goes public.

“It can only be one of you,” Lucious tells his boys during a family meeting.

“What is this?” says one of them. “We King Lear now?”

Lucious responds with anger: “Call it what you want, smartass. … In order for it to survive, I need one of you Negroes to man up and lead it!”

Less King Lear than The Godfather, this succession fight features three sons who seem little more than stereotypes: the clean-cut son with a white girlfriend, trying to prove he’s really black; the gay son whose dad won’t accept his sexual orientation; and the volatile hip-hop star with more style than good sense.

Fortunately, this show has an ace in the hole.

Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson eats up the scenery on this show as Lucious’ ex-wife Cookie. She’s steely, streetwise and savvy about the music industry. But she took a fall for Lucious, going to jail for 17 years so he could use $400,000 in drug money to start their company.

As the show begins, she’s fresh out of the slammer and threatening to derail everything if she can’t manage her son’s career.

“I’ve been living like a dog for 17 years, and now … I want what’s mine,” she tells Lucious while plunking on a piano in his office. “I want Jamal.”

This sets up one of many conflicts on the show, as Cookie takes over managing their gay son, Jamal, and Lucious backs in-your-face rapper son Hakeem. Clean-cut son Andre has subtly encouraged this — egged on by his white girlfriend — in hopes that his two other brothers will destroy each other.

Just like the films Daniels has directed, “The Butler” and “Precious,” “Empire” soars highest when probing the conflicts and contradictions of the black family.
It’s safe to say network TV has never built a show around a black family quite like this. And that challenge inspired co-creator Lee Daniels.

“There just hadn’t been any African-American television that I respected … or hadn’t been for a long time,” he said in a behind-the-scenes program about the series. “And I thought, what a way to come and give you a provocative sort of look at a family in the hip-hop world.”

Some things don’t work here. There are so many storylines, the pilot seems overfilled with high drama. And positioning the white girlfriend as a Machiavellian schemer with the duplicitous Andre seems a troubling and too-obvious knock at black men who dare to date Caucasian women.

But Empire really clicks when showcasing this wealthy black family that started out poor.

Lucious rides his sons hard. He tells one to “take the bass out yo’ voice when you talk to me,” in an old-school rebuke to kids who dare to talk back.

And in a flashback scene to when Jamal was a young child, we see Lucious spot him wearing women’s shoes and attack him, trying to dump him in a trash can.

But Cookie stops her husband, comforting Jamal. The incident resembles a story Daniels told about his own childhood during an interview with Out magazine a few years ago, hinting at how personal some of these plotlines are.

Just like the films Daniels has directed, The Butler and Precious, Empire soars highest when probing the conflicts and contradictions of the black family, making high drama out of the dysfunction lying just beneath the surface.

Imenti Central Member of Parliament Gideon Mwiti is a man in trouble after a former journalist accused him of raping her in his office in Westlands on Saturday evening.

Mwiti has since appeared on TV contradicting himself grossly and has recorded a statement with police over the same.

And as publicly outcry intensifies to have the investigations carried out speedily and the perpetrator brought to book, the hospital where the victim checked in has released a report showing what they found out about the incident.

In the report, the hospital confirms that the victim indeed checked in on 22^nd this month at around 1:30 am accompanied by her husband with complaints of pain on the lips/face/cheeks/chest and right upper abdomen with torn clothes-blouse and skirt after a physical assault and a rape by a person well known to her.

The report goes on to say that the victim had gone to the accused’s office in Westlands opposite Bandarini at 8 pm in accordance to his appointment to sign business documents.

On arriving there, she found the perpetrator in company of three men, one of them a doctor. The perpetrator instructed the man to take blood samples and after the victim was forcefully tested for HIV status, he tore her clothes, kicked and slapped her severally and raped her.

The report shows the following results:

O/E: emotional young lady on torn skirt and blouse, not pale, not dehydrated.

Vitals: BP-110/70, RR-20, PR-89, GCS15/15

R/S: no swellings, no bruises, tenderness on retrosternal side of chest, chest clear.

P/A: Normal fullness, tenderness on the upper right region of the abdomen.

V/E: NEG, no bruises, white vaginal discharge, hymen broken with old tags.

L/E: very small bruises on the upper and lower lips with stains of blood. Minimal swelling on bilateral cheeks.

IMP: Suspected rape/soft tissue injuries on the lips, cheeks/chest/abdomen secondary to physical assault.

DONE: samples collected (clots/HVS/Saliva swap) – given to husband to handover to handover to the police.

The Nairobi Women’s Hospital says that the patient has been admitted for further investigations and management.

 

Nation FM hired politician Tonny Gachoka the other day to boost their ratings and commentate on a number of issues, among them politics.

However, just days after joining the NMG radio station, Tonny Gachoka is getting it rough and hard to come by as criticism and trolling flows from all corners.

The latest to take a swipe at the politician is Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale.

Khalwale took to his twitter account to question the credibility of Tonny Gachoka being on national radio where he says Tonny is lying to Kenyans.

Khlawale reminds Tonny that he has listened to Angela ANgwenyi ever since the queen joined Nation FM, and asks Angela why they allowed Tony to be part of her morning show.

Khalwale is an ardent listener to Angela Angwenyi and has always commented on her topics.

What has come of our male legislators in the August House is pathetic, to say the least. The male MPs are embroiled in controversies related to sexual assault and rape which have already thrown the respected arm of government into disrepute.

It was just yesterday that Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti was accused of inviting a former journalist to his office in Westlands with a business deal at hand only to turn on the lady and beat her up, compel her to a forceful HIV test and thereafter rape her.

The accusations have left the republic raging in anger and dismay over the beastly act, with many calling for speedy investigation into the ordeal.

And before the dust settles on the same, Taita Taveta County Women Representatitive Joyce Lay has accused her colleague in parliament for sexually harassing her while they accompanied the president to Tokyo Japan for a tour.

The married MP is accusing Turbo MP Elisha Busienei of calling her useless when Lay ignored her in Japan as he made advances towards her.

Lay says that Busienei blocked her on the door as she headed for her hotel room and when she questioned it the male legislator called her useless.

Lay then reported the matter to the leader of the delegation to Japan and shared her ordeal on a whatsapp page that the Defence Committee members regularly use.

The female MP appeared on NTV last evening and shed light on the matter, revealing her ordeal and demanded that Mr, Busienei comes out and apologizes publicly.

The slatted May 4^th Kabete By-election will see political heavyweight, Ferdinand Waititu, face off with a rookie who isn’t very familiar in the tricky statecraft affairs. But even David managed to take down Goliath so everything is possible under the sun.

He might be a novice in politics but George Mungai Waiguru certainly has what it takes to successfully run a constituency. George, a trained journalist who once worked for Citizen TV, is vying as an independent candidate in the forthcoming Kabete mini-poll.

He is also a brother to Citizen TV’s Rauka host, Njugush. (You can actually tell the two are siblings or related just by the first glance)

The courageous George decided to give the race’s favorite, ‘Baba Yao’ (Waititu) a run for his money because he says the latter wouldn’t dedicate his time in delivering the services Kabete people need since he has set his eye on the Nairobi gubernatorial seat on the next general elections in 2017.

Well, we wish George success in his uphill quest of becoming a legislator. Hope if he makes it to the August House he will make a difference for the two or so years he will be an MP.

Last week Twitter and Social media in general was ablaze with news that a chinese restaurant was not accepting any coloreds from 7 pm. The notoriety of this restaurant did not stop there. New evidence has it that the only “coloreds’ accepted into what can only be called a “coven” were former minister Raphael Tuju and the Nairobi Senator, Mike Sonko. It was the whites and  a few coloreds who looked like they had a little too much “white” than the average person.

After the expose the restaurant was investigated and the police established that the restaurant was operating  without a licence! The proprietors were taken to court to answer charges of running a business without the necessary documentation. 

The proprietor has been released on a cash bail of  50,000 and will attend court sessions for the duration that it takes the trial to be complete!

Bullying is slowly shifting from the sturdy schoolyard bully to Cyber bullying by a person who is not necessarily physically muscular.

Wikipedia defines cyber bullying as,“The use of information technology to repeatedly harm or harass other people in a deliberate manner.”

I will give it to her; Vera Sidika certainly knows how to spin the tide of negative attention coming her way and use it to make some money for herself.

Vera Sidika who goes by the name @queenveebossette on instagram and twitter rushed after the expose and changed her name to @queenveebosset, trying to lie to Kenyans and the world that the former one was a fake account and the former is her original account. Well, she wanted to dupe us and make us look crazy after the expose.

And as the socialite continues this famous expose, the world is still surprised at the manner in which our socialites are hawking their goodies to earn a living.

Homosexuality is one very sensitive topic in Kenya today, thanks to the different reactions it elicits from the public. In Kenya, for a long time, homosexuality never existed, and if it did, it was done secretly. These days, it is penetrating amidst us like a breeze from the see.

It is a topic that has got many talking, some for it while others are against us.

While the Kenyan society has not embraced this practice, some practice it secretly and even vow never to overlook it.

Well, Ghafla Kenya caught up with one of Kenya’s most established comedians and shared his thoughts on this controversial topic.

Eric was really lost in thoughts when asked about his opinion on homosexuality. Thinking hard and deeply, the comedian could not give his thoughts, probably because of the controversy surrounding the whole topic.

He went on to describe how religious he is and finally said, “I am not for it.”

Television in Kenya has made significant steps towards greatness ever since it made its bow in the country several decades ago.

Unlike radio which uses sound as the only means of communication, effects of TV on the audience are intense and can be highly felt thanks to the ability of this channel of communication to display its content through sound and images at the same time.

However, sound and images are not just enough to make TV the most effective means of communication. They need more than just that. They need individuals with a strong personality and desire to bring distant things closer and into perspective. These are the real reporters in the field.

Kenya today boasts quite a number of TV stations, and with the migration into digital platform, it is expected that many more will emerge to cater for the growing need for information, knowledge and entertainment.

And is we expect this to happen, we delve into some of the reporters who have gone to great extents to bring the world closer to Kenyans with their incisive and well searched reports.

She is one of the ladies who have traversed the Great Rift to cover untold and perhaps the greatest stories of our lifetime. She ensures that the Rift Valley region is well covered. From Kabarnet to Kabartonjo, Eldoret to Elgeyo-Marakwet. Cherangany Hills to Nandi Hills and all the regions of the Great Rift. The hills surely know this lady and they must be bowing to her investigative mind and an ability to tell a story with verve and vigour. Her command of the queen’s language, the phonetics, phonology and morphology of the official language is astounding. All we can give Loise is an ‘ategsin’ (salute).

Purity Mwambia – K24

She is arguably the only Kenyan female journalist to embrace the otherwise male dominated field of investigative journalism. She has taken in the footsteps of great investigative journalists like Mohammed Ali and John Allan Namu, whom I did not include in this list because they are on another level that many will struggle to reach. Purity Mwambia has taken it upon herself to face death threats courageously as she endeavors to unearth the ills and rot in our society. Her work is already selling her to the global market. Purity is a wonderful investigative reporter.

Peter Mwangangi – NTV

NTV is definitely dominating this list, clearly showing that they don’t gamble when it comes to matters picking the best talent. Peter Mwangingi is another very promising reporter that the Nation Media Group-owned TV station boasts. The Coast-based reporter displays a clear mind on his reports, they are up to date and above all, well researched and life changing. His human interest stories put him among the top reporters that will definitely define the TV industry in Kenya in the near future. Is this the prospect that will follow in the footsteps of the great Alex Chamwada? Well, only time will tell. But Peter Mwangangi is a man to watch in the TV section.

Rita Tinina – KTN

She has been at the Standard Group for quite some time now but Rita Tinina’s reporting prowess and mojo are still very high and strong. She is all round and will be there to give you the best and crucial reports when and as they arise. KTN trusts her with crucial and touchy reports and she never disappoints. It is justifiable to say Rita comes third after Moha and Namu in KTN as far as reporting is concerned. Keep it up Rita.

Judy Kosgey – Citizen TV

Judy is arguably the most established reporter at Citizen TV after Alex Chamwada called it a day at the SK Macharia-owned TV station. She does not stutter in her reporting. She is prolific and informing. Her reports are also up-to-date and life changing. She is self-spoken, does not make noise and above all, authoritative. She possesses more qualities that can fill this page. Judy Kosgey has a command of the queen’s language too. She is cool on her stories and perhaps that is why her report will always make get one moving swiftly from the kitchen to the sitting room to hear what she has for that day. She is a genius in her profession.

Nini hit the fan  when Churchill posted his feelings about  the lady who was reportedly raped by Imenti’s member of parliament a few days ago at his private office in westlands.

 It is reported that the woman had gone on a business meeting that turned sexual, the Mp allegedly forced her to have a HIV test before assaulting her. After leaving the premises, the lady went  home and was taken to a health facility by her husband. The matter was reported to the police and investigations are underway to unravel the mystery.
