Of all corruptible Media personalities,the one I would least expect to be caught up in some stupid bribery scandal is Swaleh Mdoe,among a few elite others. Swaleh’s a TV veteran. And a very highly-regarded media heavyweight. And Kenyan,too.

What would motivate a man of such a high social standing as Swaleh Mdoe to collude with his equally respected and trailblazing colleagues to mint money from some politician in order to kill a damning story?

I was shocked sick to learn that Citizen TV had suspended the almost insuspendable Swaleh Mdoe,an almost permanent fixture on our TV screens.

Mdoe has been an employee at Citizen TV for ages,He’s racked up clean years of impeccable duty and service,he’s inspired and nurtured dozens young TV reporters and anchors,he’s covered a billion stories-some big,some small-he’s been down the road and back,he’s made his name,created an unbreakable legacy and left a sure imprint on the walks of Television.

His TV hosting skills are maverick. And in all ways pragmatic. He seemed not to play by the rules,seems to write his own script,seems to have a free hand,do as he wish,chart his own path and introduce his own TV skills. And,unsurprisingly,they work.

So,how does such a man,with all those beautiful years of experience,with such a well-manicured TV career,with all that massive following and unbreakable national respect end up getting caught up in a messy bribery web?

Who could corrupt Swaleh Mode,the unofficial Father Of Swahili Bulletin?

It’s simply crazy.

Crazy that a man of such a lofty social standing,a man of his age and vast knowledge,a man as venerated and trailblazing as Swaleh Mdoe would,just like any other small-time TV reporter,be enticed and wooed into some unscrupulous money deal to ditch his ethics and short-change millions of information-deserving Kenyans. While corrupting his own morals and peeing on his own bosses all at the same time.

Citizen TV,allegedly,pays it’s employees super huge amounts of salaries…Either in order to keep them,genuinely appreciate them or simply because they deserve it. And have earned it.

I do NOT know how much Swaleh Mdoe is paid…But I have a hunch,as anyone would,that the TV legend’s salary was anything but measly. Swaleh Mdoe,I am told,is one of the highest paid TV anchors in the Country. Not just at Citizen TV. And we all know why.

Why,then,with a salary as huge,a legacy as beautiful,a name as powerful and a career as legendary,would Swaleh Mdoe AGREE to let all this go down the drain for the sake of some shady deal that,somehow,would be busted? And exposed?

Evidently,it’s NOT YET confirmed that Swaleh Mdoe and his compatriots, some very respectable too (Mwanahamisi Hamadi,Kimei arap Kimeli) actually did take the alleged bribe as they are still under probation and the saga is still under investigation.

But the fact that these TV legends could be mired in a plot so messy and caught up in a scandal so reproachable,it goes on to show just how,either; Money is NEVER enough or how Kenyan politicians are powerful and can-and always have-bought their way around our media houses.

Kenyans,by Constitution,enjoy a right to INFORMATION and it’s a shame that that right is being poo pooed by personalities we least expect. Personalities we expect to stand by us…personalities we’ve always looked up to,personalities we revere,personalities we grew up watching on TV and personalities who our children actually look up to and want to be like.

And in as much as money IS the root of evil,as it is said,It must also be pointed out that GREED actually is the bigger root of all this evil.

It’s a pity that Kenyans are been forced to buy set-top boxes and invest in some randomTV decoders they otherwise would have done without only to be shortchanged further…By NOT been provided the information they invested money in to get. And by having their number one sources of truthful information falling prey to bribery and covering up massive scandals.

Swaleh and his luckless compatriots are still under investigation. I do not know how it may turn out…But whatever the result,Kenyans MUST DEMAND truthfulness not just from the media houses but also from the independent news anchors.

This scandal,surely,will taint Swaleh Mdoe’s hitherto clean record. And it doesn’t matter what the verdict is,His unblemished standing in society shall be affected. If it hasn’t already.

And this,I hope,should be a lesson that less-known,less-popular TV anchors can learn in their future dalliance with questionable Politicians who will do anything to bribe them and cover their faces…effectively wrecking the desirous TV host’s career. For good.

There are many lessons to learn here. But not more than the questions we have to ask.

Swaleh Mdoe,Good Luck in the meantime.

I don’t know what you’ll miss most if he’s finally found culpable…But as for me,the always hilarious and cryptic Tafakari Ya Babu segment is what I will miss most. And that calmness and genial demeanor he always exhibits in his bulletins.

But I’m still in shock. I thought greed had it’s own special kind of prey…the weak and vulnerable and under-renumerated and cheeky.

Clearly,when the greed bug bites,anyone can be a victim. Anyone…

As it’s sort of looking like…

It’s a sad day for Television.

Citizen TV boasts of some of the finest female anchors on Kenyan TV, the likes of Julie Gichuru, Anne Kiguta , Kanze Dena, Lilian Muli ,Janet Mbugua, Mwanahamisi Hamadi and the rest .

They are not only pleasing to the eye but also pleasing to the ear making them some the most sought after news anchors.

And if Hamadi’s daughter decided to follow in the footsteps of her mother, then she will be joining the best team and giving them some serious competition.

Larry Madowo is venturing in wobbly waters, the vibrant NTV anchor has flown to South Africa despite the recent spate of antiforeigner attacks being witnessed there.

Unlike most people who have develop fear for SA, Larry Madowo has no apprehension for visiting the Rainbow Nation.

The NTV anchor has been gallivanting around the global, this latest trip to SA has however raised concern over his safety.

SA has seen resurgence of attacks against foreigners, it’s perplexing why Larry chose to travel there at this when the country is grappling to contain the spread of violence.

Why he flew there is still not in the public domain. He was however smart enough to avoid Durban, the city which was worst affected by xenophobic killings.

Larry is in Cape Town, Western Cape Province hasn’t been affected by bloodshed like one being witnessed in Kwazulu Natal Province.

Even so, he is still treading on thin ice, you just never know when those South Africans can change their mind to pounce on you.

Philanthropic politician Mike Sonko was at hand once again when a woman along Mombasa Road was involved in a grisly road accident that left her with serious injuries and her car in wreckage.

Sonko has been considered one of the most philanthropic politicians the country has ever seen, with his work and engagements angered the threatened lot of other politicians.

It was around midnight when one Jackline Gatwiri rammed into a parked truck along the road in the presence of Mike Sonko who stepped aside as Nairobi Senator to pave way for investigations into corruption allegations leveled against him.

Sonko quickly called his Sonko Rescue Team who arrived and rushed Gatwiri to hospital where she is admitted after suffering serious injuries.

This has prompted the politician to warn truck drivers who pack their vehicles along the roads at night and has asked authorities to do something about them.

However, former NTV anchor Saddique Shaban has come out to claim that the woman wanted to commit suicide because she deliberately rammed her car into the truck.

Saddique says that he was there when the women drove towards the truck deliberately in what he believes was an attempted suicide.

Liz Ntonjira started out as a business reporter in 2010 and left NTV after working for close to 4 years.

After handing in her resignation, she share this on her Facebook page 

“After working at NTV for the past three years and three months, i feel so blessed and privileged to land a job where my career path has always been geared to. “New year. New beginnings. I cannot ask for more. It’s been an absolute pleasure working for the biggest media house in east and central Africa. I have learnt a lot, the experience has been eye opening in all aspects. I have been privileged to interact with hundreds of women as well as various business leaders who continue to inspire me. Being nominated for the Diageo Africa business reporting awards for the best finance feature and winning the best TV reporter on gender and development issues is no mean fit. Thank you for your ever present support friends, I’m really overjoyed and excited about my new prospects. God, you continue to bless me immeasurably I’m speechless. I forever thank you.”

But she never revealed why she left.  Till now. Speaking to The Star, Lizz Says

“I left TV because I was tired of reading the news; I wanted to start making the news. I am so humbled at this opportunity because it gives me a chance to benchmark with what other states are doing in various levels of the governments and how it can be replicated here.”

These words were uttered in response to her new appointment as one of the selected few expected to join the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders in June.

The two most noticeable booties met at 1 FM for an interview that was overshadowed by their titillating action.

The bootylicious Judy Anyango and her equally endowed peer, Risper Faith, made their way to 1 FM to have a chat with self-proclaimed Number 1 Hype-man, DNG.

As they say it, a wild animal never loses its feral instincts. This was true as witnessed by the actions of the two socialites.

One of them, Risper, claims to have seen the light while the other one, Judy, has shun limelight. But as soon as the opportunity presented itself, they all dashed to show they still possessed their ratchet instinct.

The two delightedly flaunted their gigantic behinds to the flashing cameras. Have to admit it has been long since we witnessed such a sumptuous display of thick fat ass.

In a country plagued by corruption such as ours, we often hear of politicians and other bigwigs being sent home over sleaze, but top-shelf journalists getting suspended in such a shameful act is infrequent.

That is why came as a shock to many as Citizen’s crème de la crème Swaleh Mdoe, Mwanahamisi Hamadi and others were suspended over corruption. The 8 were said to have been bribed by a flamboyant politician to kill a story. But Royal Media was not too excited over the brown envelop their employees were handed and they were sent packing.

Kiss TV’s Angeline Wanjeri has expressed disappointment over this issue, considering this was a team that was worth looking up to:

Early this year, Lang’ata Primary School made headlines the world over when its kids together with activists demonstrated to protest the grabbing of what they said was their land.

Their demos were, however, met with tear-gassing by police officers deployed to cool down the situation, leaving a number of kids hospitalized after inhaling the dangerous gas.

Condemnation emerged from all corners of the republic after the scenes of the tear-gassing emerged on the social media, with the Kenyan police and government coming under heavy criticism following the manner the whole situation was handled.

What followed next was prominent government persons like lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu and her interior counterpart Joseph Nkaissery visiting the school to promise that the land belonged to the kids.

The government quickly moved in NYS which cleared the compound and put a sign post warning potential grabbers that the land belonged to the kids.

Months after the demonstrations, it is now emerging that the land does not belong to the kids. According to the National Lands Commission under the leadership of Muhammed Swazuri, the land belongs to the private developer who had erected a perimeter wall that the kids brought down.

NLC says that the Airport View Housing Company is the owner of the disputed piece of land and that it has a valid title deed of the land.

This means that the land does not belong to Lang’ata Primary School.

Airport View claims it paid Sh2.7 million to the government between 1989 and 1994 for the 10.9 acres, which the disputed 1.4 acres is part of.

Charity Ngilu, the suspended Lands minister, in February named four businessmen — Harbans Singh Amrit, Mandip Singh Amrit, Kamal Prakash Amrit and Manjit Singh Amrit — as the firm’s owners, and said they had grabbed the 1.4-acre piece of land. Was this a lie to cover up the whole thing?

The Jihadists attacks that saw 147 dead, the Westgate attacks that saw more than 60 people dead and many other terrorist attacks that have gone ahead to cast a dark shadow on our beautiful country; All for what?

Not for the Muslims or for the well being of your fellow Muslims as some quarters have come out to say. The Islam religion is not about killing, or bombing civilians, or prosecuting people, or committing all manner of atrocities.Its about peace and submission to the will of God.

If you think that is what Jihad is all about, then you’re mistaken because criminals have made it appear so. It’s painful to discuss it but all Muslims definitely have to come out and do something, get everyone involved because a few criminals masquerading as jihadists or Muslims are killing innocent people.

The country’s leading television station made a gaffe that has seen people pointing fingers at them. But what did they do exactly?

Mistakes are to humans and Citizen TV aren’t the first ones to make such kind of slip. As a matter of facts, all of us whether on mainstream media or blogs, have at one point made an error or two that made us to be trolled badly.

So today it’s Citizen TV that goes to the frying pan for their unintentional error. Their post on social media landed them in trouble.

First thing first, we all know the president has flown to the lake side city of Kisumu for Devolution Conference. He even confirmed it through his official social media handle.

But Citizen TV had earlier written on their Facebook page that the head of state was in Mombasa for the conference instead of Kisumu.

A minor mistake but that wouldn’t deter KOF from chastising the station. Mhh! Funny how Kenyan are fast in capitalizing on one’s mistake. Zero chills!

For the first time ever since leaving South Africa to work at Citizen TV, celebrated news anchor Janet Mbugua has opened up on what she knows about South Africans after working there for close to five years.

Janet Mbugua came back home in 2011 when Citizen TV tracked her services from a South African media house and has since excelled in her role as a prime time news reader.

But her days in South Africa are not days she would want to remember. Through a Facebook post, Janet says that she always lived in fear of being a foreigner because South Africans always had this xenophobic feeling towards foreigners and always felt like they were invading their space.

She says that South Africa called foreigners Kwere Kwere, a derogatory term referring to African immigrants.

“Living in South Africa always left me feeling unsettled. There was always an underlying sense of fear and concern regarding my status as a ‘Kwere Kwere’ (their derogatory term for African immigrants) and I wasn’t able to easily secure my work permit because of the same.”

She also narrates how an official at a South African embassy in Nairobi felt embarrassed when Janet went to apply for her work permit and openly asked her why not a South Africa but a Kenyan. Janet was lost for words and simply told her to ask the company that hired her.

“I even remember one of the women working at the immigration department at the SA high commission in Nairobi asking me, ‘why you, why not a South African?’ My answer to her was always, ‘ask the South African company that head hunted me!’. I would later secure a work permit and contract for five years but I was by then too jaded to stay. I was relieved to finally leave and come back home in 2011. Although my colleagues and the organization I worked for treated me very well, living there, you could feel this sense of loathing towards fellow Africans building up, now it’s boiled over in the worst possible way, including the murder of five foreigners, among them a 14-year-old boy (open link for the rest of the story). South Africa needs serious healing and to hold the careless leaders inciting this madness accountable, while the rest of us need to do a serious self audit of how we treat each other. Something’s got to change. Now.”

She has revealed that her employers were, however, good and friendly.

South Africans have continued to kill foreigners in the country through xenophobic attacks which have spread from Durban to Johannesburg.

Janet has called for an end to the xenophobic killings in South Africa.

Willy Paul. Davido. Dennis Oliech. They are now the past and former socialite Pendo seems to have moved on to better men. A man who treats her right and she couldn’t be more in love.
