The Song “Bananage” (Luganda for “good thing” ) was released a couple of weeks ago in a much hyped release by the Ogopa Deejays. While most of us were amazed by the concept, the danceability, the choreography and the mumbo jumbo that we could not put out fingers on, a section of guys, who belongs to the critics league spotted one peculiarity in the song, the song that was soon collecting moss as it rolled downhill, was most certainly, beyond any reasonable doubt, copied from Eddy Kenzo’s Sitya Loss!
I placed a call to massiger, earlier today when the story came up, the conversation went on like this:
GH: Hello, I’m calling you from Ghafla, Good morning?
Massiger: I am well, what is the nature of your call?
GH: We have in our possession, allegations and tell-tale pointers that you copied Eddy Kenzo’s song and made it your own, Illegally so.
Massiger: Listen, Sonny, I admire Eddy and his hit is my favorite, has been for the past year, we can say he inspired me, but my jam was far from copied. And that is the stuff of invention, innovation, I liked his style, made mine from the same but still sounded different from Kenzo, and like some prefer, different is sometimes better.
GH: You are admitting to copying the idea I presume?
Massiger: Listen, I got the Idea and made it better, I did Kenzo a favor, by proving that his catchy style could be represented in more than one way.
Gh: Some people are accusing you of lack of creativity..
Massiger: Those are critics and narcissists who have nothing better to do with their time.
GH: Noted. I think that is all.
Massiger: Have a good one ahead.
