Hollywood is slowed getting dotted with Kenyan faces. Lupita could be the most successful Kenyan in American film industry but fellow compatriots are equally climbing the ladder.

Silas Mwenda, a Kenyan actor, has bagged himself a once-in-a-lifetime deal with Lincoln film and commercial agency.

Last year, Silas made debut into the flourishing film industry after he was selected to feature in an thrilling movie dubbed ‘Love Lilly’ that was shot in three different states in the US.

Silas sealed a deal with that saw him being booked for PEPSI commercial which is due for final shoot in Seattle, Washington early next month.

The Kenyan goes down history books as the ONLY non-American face in the Lincoln film and commercial agency. The Signing to Lincoln is a dream come true, a breath of fresh air and great move for his flourishing career in the film industry.

Exactly a week ago, Janet Mbugua was walked down the aisle by her long time fiancé Eddie Ndichu in a colourful wedding ceremony held at the prestigious expansive Chaka Ranch.

The wedding was highly hyped and indeed it lived up to the hype it was given as it turned out to be among the most decorated weddings by celebrities in the 254.

Janet and Eddie have since assumed their roles as husband and wife with the former adopting the latter’s second name to be identified with her.

And as the dust continues to settle down a week after it was blown up, many are still talking about the TV siren and her hubby.

Through her instagram account, Julie has penned a heart-warming message to the two lovers, quoting encouraging verses from the Bible as she introduces them to their new life.

Julie married several years ago and she seems to understand these things perfectly. Her  message to Janet and Eddie is a perfect one and it comes at a time when they dearly need it as they kick-start a life long journey that will only be separated by probably death.

Now Nyota ndogo has reignited her beef with Mustafa by calling him a ‘kiatu’ among other things on the trend. And this is how Mustafa reacted to Nyota Ndogo spending ample time on the trend talking about him.

“I’ve met Nyota before and I thought she was a really sweet person and very mature enough to conduct her tv interviews without saying mustafa this or mustafa that!

After exchanging vows at a colorful ceremony that was held at Chaka Ranch a fortnight ago, Janet and Eddy decided to spend their honeymoon at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Laikipia County.

The very idea of Huddah getting hitched has sparked an interesting reaction from Ghafla! crew in our office.

“Who is the guy marrying her??” Baffled Team Ghafla! asked in unison.

Well, if her words are anything to go by, then Huddah Monroe is set to exchange vows with an anonymous dude that has stolen her heart, perhaps it’s the ‘sponsor’ Joe Muchiri keeps on referring to.

Huddah is currently enjoying herself in some exorbitant resort on the shores of Lake Victoria. She posted a photo with the caption hinting she had finally found Mr. X.

“Sailed Lake Victoria with the lover of my life . Awesome feeling. Sometimes love comes around and just knocks you down!” Wrote Huddah.

At the end of her statement, Huddah posted a ring. Ghafla! couldn’t immediately reach Huddah via the phone to confirm whether she is actually getting married.

About a month ago, one of NTV’s finest was left mortified after photos of her, naked as a newborn surfaced on social media.

Team Mafisi had a field day with the photos which they lasciviously said portrayed her “well shaped body, come to bed eyes, honey dripping lips and smooth skin.”

Aside from the humiliation, it seems that this leak could have cost her job at NTV. As you are aware NTV is a family oriented brand and often steer away from anything outrageous.

Anita has however denied getting fired .She claims that she decided to leave the station to deal with the humiliation and also out of respect for the media house, witting this:

The show started off with a toned down performance from the star of the night,Bahati who,clutching a guitar-I hope he could really play it-and seated on some high-level chair,crooned his peace-oriented song Visa,moaning and bawling as he is known to before Rufftone,Gospel music’s godfather,stormed to the stage and blew us away with his Mungu Baba Twaomba GSU jam. And,just like that,obliterated what Bahati had attempted to do before…

And the Awards were quickly in motion…The host was the very professional and debonair Kavutha Mwanzia…

I was seated to the right of the packed auditorium…And followed all the festivities from a very vaunted position…soaking in every moment,savoring every performance and jotting down notes on every move the chaps at the stage made…

And now,after the Groove Awards,Here Are The Ghafla Awards based strictly on the performances of the Groove Awards…

LADY OF THE NIGHT- Kavutha Mwanzia.

Before Kavutha Mwanzia was picked as the event’s MC and Host,the organizers had first picked Kalekye Mumo the Kiss FM motormouth who,because the event had to be postponed,couldn’t host it anymore as she had planned to be in Brazil on June 6^th. And so,after the departure of Kalekye,the Organizers went for Kavutha Mwanzia…You may remember her as the TPF Voice coach. And boy,Kavutha was quite the lady of the night!

She was classy,toned down,strict on time,super professional,calm and collected,audible,elegant and very refreshing. She spoke like a pro,made introductions with real emphasis on time and never allowed anyone to waste the night away or to hog too much time on stage.

She was quite the class act! Thumbs up,Girl. You owned the night!

MAN OF THE NIGHT- Abel Chungu

Abel Chungu is  a Zambian…And he was in Kenya for the Award Ceremony. And when the Award For The Artiste Of The Year Southern Africa was named,It was Abel who went to the stage to pick it on behalf of Joyous Celebration. And then he gave a speech…And blew the whole auditorium away. It was impassioned,true,straight to the point and very poignant.

And then he was called again to perform…And yet again,He killed it! He did a Swahili song(Yes,He’s Zambian) that he wrote on his way to The Grooves! He wrote a song specifically for the Grooves! And it was a classic! Damn!

And with those vocals? Abel simply owned the night…First Class honors!

FEMALE PERFORMER OF THE NIGHT- Mercy Masika

Mercy Mercy! Oh Lord Of Mercy! When this girl with the biggest voice in Gospel stood up to sing,the hall was brought to it’s knees. Performing her super smash hit,Mwema,Mercy brought the whole room to it’s feet! Her fellow artistes ,too,could be seen dancing themselves silly and soaking in her performance from their seats! Daddy Owen’s hands were flailing in the air throughout Mercy’s classic performance.

It was sweet and powerful and anointed and holy. Goodness! Her vocals shattered across the room and that song,that song brought the Lord into the room…And made time stop! Mercy was made to sing. And,to me,she is NOT the Best Female Artiste in Gospel Music..She is the Best GOSPEL MUSICIAN IN KENYA! Period! Bless!

MALE PERFORMER OF THE NIGHT-Willy Paul

Forget his many scandals and utotos and whatnot,Willy can be a performer! And Willy can really really own that stage! He’s the most gifted Male Gospel artiste,the most sizzling,the most entertaining and the most amazing! His vocals are straight from heaven and his songs are on a whole ‘nother level.

Instead of appearing on the stage like any other performer,Willy Paul stared his performance hoisted above the room like a roving camera! High above every one else,and with the crane swinging him from corner to corner,Willy Paul flew above people’s heads…Like a Boss! And brought back memories of Michael Jackson,The Pop King!

And when he was finally lowered on to the stage to continue his performance,Size 8 joined him to deliver their smash hit Tam Tam before Willy Paul went on to his Kwa Vile jam,blowing the whole room away,making thousands of ladies cheer for his impeccable dance skills and bring the whole house to a thunderous applause! Plus those dance moves? Dammit! You could have an orgasm!

PRESENTER OF THE NIGHT- Octopizzo

Yes,Yes…I know,I know…Octo is not even a Gospel artiste. And Cabu Gah is not even one to heap praises on Octo but,let’s face it,Octo was the speaker of the night! Trailed very closely by Ian Mbugua.

Called upon to present the Award For Hip Hop Artiste Of The Year,Octopizzo took time to poke fun at Allan Aaron,his co-presenter. And it was really funny…He also brought up the Illuminati claims,talked of his past,why he does secular music and about the grace of God to all mankind.

But the biggest cheers came when he attacked Gospel artistes for singing pop songs and for diluting their message,telling them,”Wewe ni Gospel artiste,Hufai kuwa uki-try kuwin-mafans…Unafaa uimbe ku-win souls…” And the hall erupted in an applause. He also attacked Kelele Takatifu for dancing along to their own songs telling them,”Wewe ni Hip Hop Artiste…Unafaa kuwa na swag,Buda! Sio kutingiza viuno hapa kama dancer…Hizo wachia Willy Paul,Budah!”

And even after presenting the Award to Kriss Ehh Baba,Octo still remained on stage to remind us of how he helped build Nairobi Chapel and why we should not be surprised to see him at a Gospel event. He made us laugh,think,smile,clap,cheer and he preached to us too! One word,Amazing!

SEXY LADY OF THE NIGHT- Dee Dee

Dee Dee is a female Gospel rapper that many of You may not know…But this girl,even though she didn’t win any award,really made us stare. At her gorgeousness…She wore a black and white flowing gown that accentuated her sweet ass in a way that seemed almost sacrilegious. She blew away the catwalk…With that dress,that flawless hair,that sweet smile,the impeccable make-up and the impossible to beat beauty! We all wanted a piece of Dee Dee! And In mean it!

MOM OF THE NIGHT- Jemimah Thiong’o

Jemimah has been in the industry for years…And years…And when she was called upon to receive the Songwriters Award,she blew us way with just how graceful she looked,how gorgeous she still appeared at her old age and how fresh she still was many many decades later…

She even brought along her super sweet granddaughter to the stage to share the moment with her…Awwww…Plus her dress? Her white,flowing gown? Simply amazing!

We loved Jemimah when she came out…And we still love her to date!

J Fam is that Gospel artiste that you probably have NEVER heard of…And Kelele Takatifu,well,You must have heard of such a crew…Now now,called upon to present an award,J Fam and one member of Kelele Takatifu really had us in stitches…Before presenting the Award,these two had a little Jamaican patois talk that really cracked the audience. J Fam seemed perfect in his Jamican lingo…While that other fellow was really a wreck in talkin’ Jamican..And that’s where the laughters came from.

Plus J Fam is really tall…While the other ka-fellow is really short and that,too, made the whole hall guffaw and fall over in stitches…

Their presentation was so good,so hilarious,we even forgot who they were presenting the award to! Funny! As hell!

AWKWARD MOMENT OF THE NIGHT- James Wanyoike

That guy who won the Award for Central Counties Artiste Of The Year…James Wanyoike. After winning the Award,this jamaa stumbled onto the stage and hugged Esther Wahome,the sexy mama. Man,he hugged Esther for so long,held onto her so tight,grabbed her so close, we didn’t understand what was going on..

And even when Esther was trying to disentangle herself from the jamaa,he still held on to her…Tightly. Boss,iko shida!??

But can we blame him? Absolutely not! Esther Wahome was the hottest Mama of the night! We’d all want to hold onto her that tightly!

RIDICULE OF THE NIGHT- L Jay Maasai

In an attempt to show Groove’s journey over the years,the producers organized a ka-video montage to show how past winners celebrated their wins.

And the funniest part of that video was when it was L Jay’s turn to be shown on the huge screens. Celebrating a past Award,L Jay Maasai broke into song….But he sang it so poorly,so badly,the whole hall broke into endless laughter. He couldn’t hit the high notes,couldn’t get the key right and was the absolute ridicule of the night! Bigger laughters came when he was told off by that viral guy with an accent,”Gerrraaaaraa Hiiiaaaa!” Hahahahaha! Poor chap!

CLOWN OF THE NIGHT- Dr. Ofweneke

He came,he made us laugh and he conquered. Plus his radio,Milele FM,won huge! And every time they won,Dr. Ofweneke came up to stage in a way that ONLY a comic like him would! He sashayed on stage,strolled,catwalked,danced,pranced and strolled like the Ultimate clown.

And even when he didn’t say a word at all,He was still funny! He brought out his Mr. Bean…And claimed his little place in the night!

DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE NIGHT- All Stars Ensemble…

I was deeply deeply disappointed when the producers of the Awards decided to lump together people as richly talented as Jemimah Thiong’o and her grand daughter,Ruth Matete,Mercy Masika and her Mum,The Kassangas and Amos and Josh only for them to sing a song as old and as boring as “tutavuaaa Mapambo Yetu…Siku zote za maisha yetu…”

They not only chose an old song but also sang it poorly. The crew was so talented,so huge,so famous that I was disappointed that they not only chose to do that song…But also sang it so poorly. It was a cheap,lukewarm performance that didn’t show off their amazing vocals,abilities and diverse talents. I was disappointed! Totally! Arrrrgh!

Aaaaaaand those were the Awards in a nutshell,Got a complaint? Go lodge it at The Central Police tafathali….

Arguably one of the funniest comedians in the 254, Chipukeezy has been making headlines recently thanks to what he does be it on social media, on radio or when performing live.

The comedian has never stopped courting controversy with his engagements. He was reported to have an altercation with Prezzo before flying his gorgeous girlfriend to the Coast for birthday celebrations only to come back ‘broke’.

Campus students love weed. If scientists were to analyze the components of air in Kenyan campuses, they would find that the percentage of weed smoke was even more than oxygen. When most of us were kids, our parents cultivated a number of lies in our brains about the effects of Marijuana.

They warned us that we should never smoke weed because we would become insane. We would walk around naked they said. We would be institutionalized they said. As we grew up, many of us defied this warning and luckily, nothing bad happened to us. We didn’t turn to zombies.

I have never smoked pot myself but I know hundreds of people who rely on it the way a trailer relies on diesel. There are people who can’t function without marijuana. Most of this people happen to be campus students. So why is this? Why are campus students so addicted to bangi? Well here are the reasons

As a coping mechanism

Wonder why you always smell bangi from afar whenever you step into JKUAT for example? It’s the pressure my guy. Campus students endure a lot of life pressures. Many students use weed as a means of coping with certain pressures in their lives such as exams, relationships etc. They also use it as way of relieving boredom, frustration, anxiety or anger and as a means of escapism.

It’s tough when you only have 20 bob in your pocket and you have to study for an Econometrics exam that’s scheduled for the next morning. It’s tough when you catch some guy shagging the sense out of your chic in her hostel room. Such are the difficulties campus students endure and weed becomes the definite savior.

Myths

False myths about weed have been there for years. Some say you’ll be able to study for longer periods if you blaze a stick or two. You’ll grasp each detail that boring lecturer coughs out. Some say you’ll have more confidence with women. Some say you’ll last longer in bed than a porn star. Some even say your hustle mode will be activated and you’ll go out there and make more mulla. All these myths combined make the use of weed seem so appealing

Peer pressure

Peer pressure is the top match maker between campo students and weed. The initiation process mostly occurs during house parties. When you attend your first party as a campus student, it’s a guarantee that you’ll be coerced to inhale a puff. Campo students experiment with drugs in order to fit in with their peer group or because it is seen as a cool and daring thing to do.

In campus, part of being a group means wearing the right clothes, having similar hairstyles and liking the same music. Another aspect is daring someone to do something which may be dangerous or different in order to be part of the group.

If the group smokes bangi or uses other drugs then part of being that group means doing the same. There can be pressure to do so and many young people will try drugs rather than be excluded from the group.

This is a stage where they have a strong desire to belong and not stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Rebellion

Marijuana is often used as a form of rebellion against authority. Knowing that your parents, lecturers or other authority figures disapprove of this makes it even more attractive. You feel proud doing a crime that you are not likely to get caught for

This is not new: campus students have been rebelling against authority over several decades and using drugs such as marijuana is one way of doing so.

This is a time when they are testing boundaries; exploring their identities and trying to assert themselves in a variety of ways. It is a time of raging hormones and other changes which can be confusing and difficult to deal with.

The Kenyan campus student is on the cusp of childhood and adulthood and is trying to adapt to the challenges that brings. Using marijuana is one way of coping with that.

Ease of access

In campuses, there are weed dealers everywhere, even mini-cartels. You just have to know them since they don’t sell it out in the open like Sukuma wiki. For as little as 20 bob, one gets their fix. The availability of weed makes it popular among campus students. Ease of access goes hand in hand with popularity

Maina Kageni is an infuriated man after word went round that he is paid by Uganda’s all-time top singer Jose Chameleone to play his songs.

The two are known to have a fantastic relationship between them and more than once have been spotted hanging out together, enjoying their moments.

Maina is also known to have a lot of liking for Chameleone’s songs and plays them a lot on his Classic 105 show every morning.

This prompted some people to ask Chameleone what he gives Maina such that he plays his songs so much.

Certified pilot? Nairobi Senator, Mike Sonko, is leaving his dreams! For a long time now, the flamboyant law maker has been dying to fly a plane and he ultimately did it.

A somber mood engulfed a school in Nyamira yesterday when a form three girl committed suicide by jumping into a pit latrine after what many say is humiliation by a teacher.

Judy Nyanchama Mercy of Marindi High School committed suicide after her teacher confiscated her phone and loudly read her love messages in front of the students’ assembly.

Other students say that this must have greatly embarrassed the student who went on to jump into the pit latrine, killing herself instantly.

The school matron has, however, denied that the teacher read the text messages out loud leading to the student committing suicide.

Most Kenyan schools discourage use phones by students within school compounds and this is another incident which puts on the spotlight some of the stringent rules governing the conduct of students in institutions.

Felix Kiprono, the lawyer who attracted the attention of the world’s most powerful man sat down with KTN’s Joy Doreen Biira to shed light on his ‘insane’ proposal.

50 cows, 70 sheep and 30 goats, those are the livestock Felix was prepared to part with in order to marry President Obama’s daughter.

Even though his ambition seemed far-fetched, Felix got the whole world’s attention by his audacious move on Malia Obama.

Joy Doreen sat down with the ‘Kenyan lawyer’ (as Felix has come to be known) to get him to explain why he was brave enough to offer dowry for a 17-year-old Malia.(Under age girl).

Interestingly, Felix says it’s not him but his community elders that offered the livestock for President Obama’s daughter.

So Felix just got himself in the middle of something that he didn’t even initiate? According to Doreen, Felix denies being in love with Malia but he admits he has been fascinated by the Obamas ever since they occupied the White House.

Citizen TV’s Janet Mbugua has been missing from the screens for a while now. She is in some ritzy destination in the wilderness enjoying her honeymoon.

Ever since she opened a new chapter in her life, the sultry Janet Mbugua has been keen to keep a low profile to enjoy precious time with her better half Eddie Ndichu.

The two walked down the aisle approximately a week ago in a colorful ceremony that was held at the expansive Chaka Ranch in Nyeri County.

After the wedding, Janet and Eddie turned their back on the media to travel to a ‘secret’ location to enjoy their honeymoon.

After almost a week of silence following the wedding, Janet decided to update her fans on her whereabouts, where she is spending her honeymoon.

Apparently the Citizen TV anchor loves wild destinations, peaceful ambiance far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Janet and Eddie travelled to Samburu County, Ol Pejeta conservancy to be specific, to spend their honeymoon.

She shared some photos from her escapade in the wildness.
