With just a few days to go before music fans are treated to a world class jazz and Afro-pop experience at the Safaricom Jazz Lounge international music star Salif Keita was spotted with Safaricom’s CEO Bob Collymore.

This was during a media briefing where Keita promised to deliver an energy-packed performance.

Mr. Keita, who arrived in the country on Monday ahead of his performance at the Bomas of Kenya, said he was excited to be back in Kenya and looked forward to delivering a memorable show.

“I love the energy of the Kenyan music fans and their appreciation of broad genres of music, so I’m excited about delivering a great show and speaking to each person who attends the event through my music,” said Mr. Keita. “Music is a powerful medium and I will be using its ability to communicate over social, cultural, geographical and language barriers to give the fans an unforgettable experience.”

He is no stranger to Kenya, having visited the country on various occasions both for music performances as well as in his capacity as a global advocate for the rights of people living with Albinism.

Mr. Keita is also affectionately referred to as the “Golden Voice of Africa” and has over 40 years’ experience in Afro–pop, Jazz and Fusion, having begun his career in his native Mali in the late 1960’s.

This will be his first performance at the Safaricom Jazz Lounge, a series of events that lead up to the annual Safaricom International Jazz Festival.

“In 2013 we decided to take a more active role in supporting the Kenyan arts scene, choosing music as a channel through which we could celebrate culture while at the same time nurturing local talent,” said Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore. “Part of celebrating our local talent is giving them the opportunity to perform alongside international artistes, so we’re very honoured to be working with Salif Keita as well as James Gogo and the Gogosimo Band this year.”

The Safaricom Jazz Lounge will be held on Saturday 29th August 2015. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Ghetto Classics music programme in Korogocho Slums, which seeks to provide an opportunity for children from underprivileged backgrounds to explore their musical talents and use them as a ticket out of the low income neighborhood.

“It is humbling to know that my performance at this event will contribute towards transforming the lives of hundreds of children and their families, having experienced myself the power of music to change lives,” added Mr. Keita. “This is an event with a cause, and I’m proud to be supporting such a worthy cause.”

Safaricom supports Ghetto Classics with the aim of transforming the lives of these children and their families, by helping them raise funds to sustain and broaden the music programme.

One woman is fearing for her life and that of her unborn child after the man who got her pregnant threatened to kill if she does not abort the child.

According to the lady, she was impregnated by a prominent MP from Kiambu County who is married and has a family, Nairobi News reports.

The woman alleges that the MP sent her 20,000 shillings to abort the child and if she does not do so he will kill her and her child.

Speaking to NN, the lady expressed her fears because of the position the MP holds in the Jubilee Government and said that he will make true his threats.

The lady has, however, stood firm and said she will not abort her child.

Garissa again! Six terrorists of Tanzanian origin were arrested on Tuesday by Police in Garissa as they prepared to travel to Somalia for radicalization and extremism.

Police confirmed this and said they arrested the six after they were tipped-off by locals on the presence of the terrorists in the area.

The Tanzanians had dangerous weapons with them.

“We arrested six Al-Shabaab militiamen with two pistols, seven grenades, 20 rounds of ammunition and 15 magazines in Garissa Ndogo trading centre in Garissa Town on Sunday and we are looking for more accomplices who are on the run,” Daily Nation quoted North Eastern Regional Co-ordinator Mohamud Saleh.

According to police, more terrorists are hiding in Garissa and are planning a major terrorist attack. Other reports indicate that more than 26 of them have been nabbed so far as they planned to launch the said attacks in Garissa and its environments.

“We are happy that the locals are cooperating very well with the security agencies in providing intelligence. We are now receiving intelligence even from herders in remote areas,” Saleh added.

Garissa was on global spot when terrorists descended on Garissa University and killed more than 148 Kenyans in April this year.

‘Tyranny Of Numbers’ political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has been getting some serious flack for some comments he made on Twitter.

Mutahi was accused of insulting and degrading the Luo community through a series of tweets. Which in hindsight was a bad idea as Kenyans from all walks of life are displeased about the comments which you can check out below

Mutahi took to Twitter to apologize after hue and cry but Mohamed Junet , the first Kenyan Somali to be elected Member of the National Assembly in Nyanza Province is not buying it.

The Suna East M.P took to social media to “ call upon relevant authorities to take up the matter and pursue it legally.”

It is our intention as Luos not to henceforth take lightly any slight innuendo, rumour or statements of insignificant facts which attempt to define our economic situation.

My people of Suna East, and myself, take great exception to demeaning statements coming from well known government quarters.

Any apology being offered should take into account the fact that such statements are likely to be repeated in future, hence, I join my other brothers and sisters, and all naturalized Luos, friends of Luos, all people of western Kenya and, indeed, all Kenyans, in calling upon relevant authorities to take up the matter and pursue it legally.

As for unwarranted, injurious and malicious falsehoods on the person of Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, we urge them to get very good lawyers.

Finally, if indeed we Luos are poor; we urge the government not to continue impoverishing us by destroying the few industries located in our region.

This has been going since 1960s and must now stop.

Gor Mahia is now firmly on top of the Kenya Premier League table after KPL awarded the club all the three points from the abandoned Mashemeji Derby.

On Sunday, the much anticipated match between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards was abandoned in the 69^th minute after fans who had arrived at the Nyayo National Stadium caused trouble, stoning each other and the players on the pitch.

Police lobbed teargas canisters to disperse the irate crowd.

It is widely believed AFC Leopards fans caused the chaos after Gor Mahia won a penalty.

And this is what KPL has took into consideration to award all the three points plus two goals to Gor Mahia, something that has greatly angered AFC Leopards.

Gor were elated after they were awarded the three points while AFC Leopards promised to appeal the move by KPL organizers.

On Monday evening  I came across an update that read: “I’m totally fed up with Swaleh Mdoe, Izi ni Ujinga gani anasema kwa Tv” I tried to follow the update, but no information was divulged on what he said on Tv. 

 Now this morning I came across a snippet of the video and whatever obscenities that he blurted out on live national Tv! I was appalled? Did Swaleh Mdoe say “Kumanina Zenu” a very derogatory term that refers very obscenely to “genitals”

The news anchor has been suspended before from citizen over  allegations that he and a couple others had received money to distort a story. He was later reinstated.

Celebrated comedian Eric Omondi is opening doors for speculation with every post he makes on his social media accounts.

As we know by now, the comedian has one of the most attractive and beautiful girlfriends on Kenyan soil, and he has not shied away from sharing everything about them to the public.

Kisses, hugs, hangouts and all have been their daily bread.

And now the comedian has once again hinted that he is line to tie the knot with the woman who swept him off his feet with love and affection.

Rumour has it that she is Italian and I hear Italians know how to show love and affection. Ask former PM and AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi and he will tell you this for free.

Through one of his social media posts, Eric has posted a photo of himself with his woman getting cozy as they flirt in a serene background.

What sparked the speculation though is the caption the comedian put below the photo.

He said:

Controversial blogger Robert Alai has once again ignited his feud with Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua with attacks aimed at his development record and his administration.

This comes after the governor appeared on KTN on Tuesday evening, revealing what he has done to Machakos county residents and what he intends to do.

Remember Mutua is ranked as the top governor in the country after his development record surpassed the other 46.

Mutua has also in recent times differed with his party leaders: Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila Odinga and this is one of the things he expounded when he was talking to Yvonne Okwara Matole.

According to Alai, Mutua likes cheap publicity even when he knows he has done nothing to smile about.

“Alfred Mutua is a man who builds a mole hill then go on TV to shout that he built an artificial Mt. Kilimanjaro. Useless!!!‪#‎AskMutua,” Alai said.

Alai went on to dis Mutua for referring to US President Barrack Obama whom Mutua infamously undermined when he visited Kenya in 2006 as Illinois Senator.

“The same Obama he insulted. Meanwhile, this is what the Machakos ambulances ares being used for,” Alai said.

He then went on to post a photo of a vehicle carrying metals and purported it is a Machakos County ambulance which Mutua widely talked about in his interview.

These so called ‘men of God’ shall ‘show us things’. If they are not groping a woman’s breasts in public to cure them, they are demanding sexual favors from some of their followers in the pretext that their sperm contains ‘holy milk.’

True story .Apparently, a pastor in Brazil convinced his followers that God could only come into their lives through the mouths that “the Holy Spirit could come through ejaculation and delivered funds to the church.”

Now that is just scary. Closer home, in our continent a pastor was caught on camera repeatedly stepping on a woman’s burgeoning baby bump in a bid to cast out demons. Someone should stop this guy before he harms his followers!

It was the most anticipated gospel event of the month! Drums were beaten quite early to notify would-be-attendees. And they turned out in their numbers!

Yesterday, all roads were leading to Jubilee Christian Church (JCC) in Parklands for Kathy Kiuna’s Daughters Of Zion (DOZ) Convention.

The sheer number of ladies that showed up at JCC could only be compared to that one that thronged KICC way back in 2010 to be prayed for by Nigeria’s ‘Apostle of marriage’ Pastor Chris Ojigbani, who had promised them husbands.

But this wasn’t the case at JCC, ladies rushed there to be empowered. Guest Speaker, Dr. Cindy Trimm was present to inspire the faithful.

Mutahi Ngunyi is never afraid to catch flak. Or raise so much hell and still not eat the humble pie… Although he just did after the very disparaging remarks he made about a whole community. The Luo community. He’s skilled in stirring up the Hornet’s nest. And sitting back to watch the bees wreck havoc. Gleefully.

Mutahi is one of the most visible and outspoken Kenyan political scientists. I wouldn’t say he’s one of the best political scientists because; 1) I don’t know him that well and 2) I don’t know any other political scientist. But sure,he’s quite vocal,witty and memorable. And methinks,he loves attention and stirring up controversies just for the heck of it.

Many Kenyans remember Mutahi as the chair-swinging,spectacle-clad,hard-faced hair raiser who is the ultimate go-to person whenever our media,full of-and run by-hero worshipers want a political explanation of any phenomena.

Also,he’s legendary for conjuring up that gem of a word ‘Tyranny of Numbers’.

Mutahi,to me,appears like a smart,intelligent boy with quite a sharp wit and very wonderful grasp of the anatomy of politics. He also does come cross as domineering,mischievous,conniving and rather conceited to me. And I could be right.

From all his TV appearances,where he’s almost always shown in his immaculate office,stacked with hundreds of books he probably have never even read,Mutahi appears to be a man so sure of himself. And he does sound like he wants to be treated as the Ultimate opinion on any thing political. Thankfully for him,the Kenyan Media treats him as such. And his ego has never enjoyed a better massage.

Not quite content with the 1-minute periodical TV appearances he makes,especially during The News Bulletin,Mutahi decided to shore up his troops… And migrate to that other Avenue of controversy; Twitter. And since then,he’s become some sort of expert on anything Raila. Tweeting his way into controversy day in day out. And relishing every moment (Retweet and Favorite).

Since his arrival on Twitter,official arrival that is,Mutahi has made CORD Leader Raila Odinga his pet subject. And he’s created quite a notorious name for himself by the derogatory manner in which he talks of Raila. And the very many jabs he throws at the 3-time presidential candidate.

But after realizing that the Raila tweets weren’t eliciting as much backlash as he probably wished,he now decided to bite the apple even deeper… And went for the whole Luo community. And then,all hell broke loose. Just as he wished.

But should Mutahi Ngunyi have an opinion,any opinion,on matters Luo? Is he the MOST qualified potentate to adjudicate on matters Luo? Does he have an authority to arbitrate on Luo affairs? Educate the Luo and imagine a scenario for them?

Absolutely Not. Here’s why.

1. Mutahi Is Kikuyu 
In a Country so unashamedly tribal,where all matters,political or social,are resolved and judged from a tribal prism,Mutahi,a fortunate wealthy Kikuyu,who lives on the right side of life and has not been to the trenches and slums,is the LAST person to talk on Luo Matters. And advice the Luo-or brand them-for their political decisions or economic status. Mutahi,by the virtue of his obvious tribe,will never be taken seriously by the Luos he imagines he can save from political slavery. Neither can he be taken seriously even by harmonious Kenyans of all tribes who view his notorious jabs at the Luo as tribal,divisive,mischievous and ill-advised. His tribe DOES NOT ALLOW HIM.

2. Mutahi Ngunyi Is Close To The President. And Is Said To Work For Him
All Kenyans know that Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga are bitter political foes and that Mutahi Ngunyi knows on which side of this political rivalry is his bread buttered. Mutahi is said to be a Jubilee Government operative and insider. He’s said to be close to the President and also to be his advisor. There is NO proof for this and all that could be corridor talk. Either way,Kenyans form their judgments on what they hear. Not what they know and therefore,the fact that Mutahi and Jubilee are said to be close means that,the Luo community,who gravitate towards CORD Leader Raila Odinga,will never trust Mutahi to give an honest opinion on them, CORD,it’s leader or political ideology. The Luo will always view Mutahi as a political tool to beat them and browbeat them. No matter how sincere he may be.

3. Mutahi Has A Tendency To Hurt Feelings 
He’s an accomplished political scientist (whatever that is) but still,the haphazard manner in which he dishes out his unsolicited for political advice raises questions,evokes emotions and hurts feelings. Mutahi does NOT know how to dispense wisdom without attracting controversy and insulting parties. Luos are known to be fiercely proud of themselves and very appreciative of their heritage too and any attempt to disparage them and take personal swipes at them shall always be met with anger and suspicion. Mutahi should first learn how to talk without hurting. Advice without annoying. But for now,his words are too divisive and his attacks so personal that he can singlehandedly stir up a mindless civil unrest just by a reckless tweet in such a politically volatile nation.

4. Raila CANNOT BE BLAMED For His Political Tactics… 
Every politician has tact. And every leader has a way to keep his followers with him and to make his supporters remain loyal. Raila’s smart political maneuvers,even though they’ve never earned him the Presidency,cannot now be the reason a community lives in ‘poverty’. Mutahi should know that a Kibaki presidency did nothing for the masses of poor youths dying of illicit alcohol across Nyeri. Raila has,time and again,proved that he’s a national politician. And 2007 proved that ALL communities,except one,were behind his bid for presidency and so,He cannot be merely reduced into a Luo demagogue. Just because the Luo fiercely support him. His politics DOES NOT create poverty. Poor Governance does. And we all know Raila Odinga has never been President anyway.

5. Mutahi Ngunyi Is Becoming A Politicized Opinion Maker Anway
While Kenyans love and welcome Mutahi’s many political hypotheses,he has,time and again,especially now on Twitter,where he’s becoming some sort of firebrand opinion legend,proven that his views are based NOT on his scholarly understanding on social politics but on the divisive politics of the day. Mutahi should be dispensing his opinions from a very level-headed,non-partisan standpoint but of late, he appears to be more and more drawn into the dirty pool of the poisonous Kenyan politics and also appears to be taking sides and to be an obvious hater of CORD and Raila too. And therefore,a politician, according to the many Luos who benefit from his advice, should not even be giving advice to the other side at all. If you’re into politics,then go ahead and play the game right. Go dirty if you wish,but make it clear that yours is a political opinion. And not based on some masters degree you earned for dissecting societies and politics. The politicization of Mutahi and his brand means that he’s unwelcome to coach the Luos. Or lecture them on where to go,who to go with and why.

Mutahi’s political analyses are welcome. But they should be national. And nor aimed at one party,one personality and one tribe day in day out.

His unhealthy obsession with Raila must end.

We expect better from learned folks like him anyway.

 

 

It appears psychopaths are on the loose! Maybe it’s just time for men caught raping minors to be castrated, or better, to be injected with oestrogen so that they can become less harmful Caitlyn Jenners!

Cases of rape are on the rise in this country of ours, men behaving like wild animals on heat now seems to be the norm.

Every now and then you get to hear a man has raped a child, sometimes even more disturbing; a father forcing himself into his own child!

Well, another knucklehead is doing rounds on social media after he was caught pants down doing the unthinkable to a minor.

The man is said to have lured the poor girl into his trap with mere 10 bob. He was found in the act just by the fence of proposed County headquarters in Taita County.

Angry resident however didn’t spare him, they descended on him with blows and kicks that were enough to make him bleed!

 

Alas! Were we in Zimbabwe, then most folks would have been sent to detention camps. How dare you embarrass the commander in chief?

The 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China has brought Kenya nothing but pure admiration and praise from all over the world. The last time I checked, we were still leading on the medal table; 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze.

Long-distance female athlete, Vivian Jepkemoi Cheruiyot, bagged Kenya its first gold when she outsprinted bitter rival, Gelete Burka, from Ethiopia to win the 10,000m race.

Her victory sparked celebrations here in Kenya, ordinary folks and leaders were quick to send her congratulatory messages.

President Uhuru Kenyatta also made sure his voice was heard. But he slipped with his congratulatory messages and boom! Kenyans put him on the spot!

“Congratulations Vivian Cheruiyot on bagging Kenya its first Gold Medal in the 10,000m women’s marathon.” Wrote Uhuru.

How I wish he hadn’t put the word ‘marathon’ in his statement. Anyhow, 10,000m race ISN’T a marathon.

A marathon is a long-distance running race strictly of 21KM (half marathon) and 42KM. Hope Mr. President gets this!

So guys were busy trolling Baba Ngina over his message with some asking him to explain in details how 10,000m race had graduated to being a marathon.

As if the news that Kenya had bagged most of the medals at the World Athletics Championships was not exciting enough, we have just heard some pertly great news.

That Grammy Award winner Salif Keita a.k.a the “Golden Voice of Africa” is in the 254.

The afro-pop singer-songwriter with albinism made his second trip to the 254 ahead of the Safaricom Jazz Festival where he is expected to woo the audience with his hit singles that have captured the hearts of Africa and the world. The last time he was in the country was to support Nonini’s Colour Kwa Face Campaign.

The 66 year old musician who is said to be a direct descendant of the founder of the Mali Empire, Sundiata Keita will be performing on the 29th of this month at the Bomas of Kenya.

Money gotten from this event will be donated to Ghetto Classics a community programme based in Korogocho slums, so don’t miss out. This is an opportunity for you to not only enjoy the music but also do something great for the less fortunate.

While Bien and Chimano constantly make the news, we rarely hear o a Mudigi Scandal so we were pretty surprised when SDE reported that the crooner was involved in an altercation with Ne-Yo’s bouncer at Mad House Club. Apparently, Mudigi headed to a club where Ne-Yo was heading straight to the V.I.P section as per usual and a squabble resulted between him and Ne-Yo’s bouncer. The argument ended with him being hauled out of the V.I.P section.

According to a bouncer, Delvin Mudigi had ATT and was very disrespectful but the whole thing was squashed after Buddha Blaze intervened and Delvin left the club for another venue.

Kenya has once again bagged itself a gold medal in the ongoing IAAF games in Beijing, China through Nicolas Bett.

Bett sprinted around the track, skipping hurdle after another and then raced clear towards the finishing line, effectively clinching the medal.

It took Nicolas 47.79 seconds to go round the track and clinch the gold medal.

The victory means that Kenya has three gold medals after Ezekiel Kemboi and Vivian Cheruiyot bagged theirs yesterday.

But some calls are legit and shouldn’t be ignored. Jamila Mbugua is raising the alarm following zombification of youths at the coast.

The news anchor is concerned with the rising incidents of youth falling victims to drug addiction which has long been a chronic disease in coast province.

She says the government hasn’t been serious with its efforts to curb the menace and rehabilitate youth who turned their backs on the slow-killing pleasure.

“More youth turning into zombies from drug addiction. My concern is, why can’t the Government put up proper rehab centers and offer subsidized services since they have failed in controlling the trade. How do you have a rehab with the capacity of only 3 people? Better still create job opportunities for the idle youth? Mombasa has lots of potential, from farming to fishing.”

We were first introduced to Daniel Peter Weke through his character, the soft-spoken heir of the Mali Empire in NTV show ‘Mali’.

His good looks could also be attributed to his success, especially among the ladies, but he is no beauty with no brains.
He recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business Administration/Marketing rom United States International University (USIU). But he did not just graduate but graduated with honors. Daniel He graduated Magna cum laude which I think translates to second class upper in the Kenyan context.

It was all smiles as 23 women who were trapped in Saudi Arabia jetted into the country after Kenyans led an online plea to have them rescued from bondage and suffering.

According to the women, they flew out to the Middle East to look for greener pastures only for their bosses to turn against their wishes and mistreat them badly.

Those who spoke to the media narrated how they were lured with nice packages and good salaries in Saudi Arabia only for their employers to confiscate their passports and subjected them to hard work under very deplorable conditions.

Quite a number of them are believed to be still trapped in the Middle East.

The government suspended all recruitment agencies that take Kenyans to the Middle East to work as domestic workers.

NTV’s Jane Nguiri yesterday grilled the country’s first female brigadier and she revealed hard to belief stuff about her.

One would think Ahmed being the first female brigadier was dreaming about her military career ever since she was a toddler.

But this isn’t true. Believe you me, Ahmed landed her military job by an accident. She had travelled to her rural home in Meru to get the national ID when she learnt the military was recruiting.

The angel of Lord must have been on her side; a day after she acquired the ID, she decided to try her lucky in the recruitment and just like that she joined the country’s military.

While others have offered bribe, get conned, seek divine intervention and still got rejected by the military, Ahmed had no godfather yet she joined and rose through the ranks to be a brigadier.

The form four school girl who was found with bhang in her underwear is finally a free person after the High Court suspended the 18-month probation handed to her early on.

High Court judge George Odunga suspended the probation pending the hearing and determination of a case where the girl has sued police officers for violating her rights.

The girl was stripped by police officers when it was discovered she was hiding rolls of bhang in her underwear.

They then photographed her unclothed body and circulated the photos on social mediam sparking massive public outrage.

According to Judge Odunga, the girl’s rights were violated by the circulation of her nude photos on the internet.

The case will be heard on 8^th September, 2015.

The former KTN anchor-cum-DW TV East African correspondent is displaying all the telltale signs she is in a relationship with Janet Mbugua’s twin bro, Timothy Mbugua.
