A locally built replica of an early 1930s Alfa Romeo 1750 sports racing car will be one of the most eye catching of the eleven Alfas contesting at the CBA Africa Concours d’Elegance at the Nairobi Racecourse. 

Ms. Silvia Cassini will be showing this unique car which was built by her late grandfather Vittorio who was a leading coach builder and restorer of rare vintage cars.

As a youngster in Italy, the late Vittorio Cassini was enthralled by the exploits of the Alfa Romeo 1750 sports cars in long distance races including the Mille Miglia and LeMans.Inspired by these successes in the 1930s, he longed to own such a car, but realized this was an impossible dream.

Long after establishing the coach building company of Cassini and Tonolo in Nairobi, he set about building a replica as a worthwhile alternative to owning one of the rare and extremely valuable original Alfa Romeo 1750 cars.Together with his staff he made the chassis and body.The car was completed by fitting the engine, gearbox and rear axle of a 1972 Alfa Romeo Giulia.

This locally built replica of an early 1930s Alfa Romeo 1750 sports racing car will be one of the most eye catching machines contesting at the CBA Africa Concours d’Elegance. He completed the fine replica in 1990 by which time Cassini and Tonolo had branched into selling and servicing tractors and agricultural equipment.The firm is now the agent for Valtra tractors and JCB agricultural equipment.

The Alfa Romeo 1750 sports racing car replica has appeared at past Concours d’Elegance events and has won awards.After several years of absence, Silvia Cassini is bringing the car back to the Racecourse to contest the class for up to1,600 cc sports cars.She will be up against Magdi Riad’s 1962 Triumph Herald, Chandan Gidomal’s 1954 MG TF and the 1947 MG TC of Sati Gata Aura which is highly rated as a potential overall winner.

There is a full field of 70 cars and 40 motorcycles for the Concours d’Elegance, but there are a few spaces available for the Classic Car and Motorcycle Sale.This caters for machine made in 1990, or earlier regardless of their condition.There are only three vacant plots in Auto Expo (the motor trade section) and all entries close at noon on Wednesday September 16^th.

Crowd pulling Concours cars include the VW Karmann Ghia coupes of Paul Chemngorem and DJ Adrian Washika, the 1957 Mercedes 190 SL entered by DT Dobie and the 1937 Wolseley limousine which has been entered by Ugandan enthusiasts Kalvins Kagwa.

Impressive large cars are a strong feature of the entry list.Among the machines to watch are the 1965 Jaguar E-type of Alec Davis, Rajesh Lakhani’s Rolls Royce and Stuart Herd’s 1965 Jaguar Mark X which is the largest car ever made by Jaguar. The meticulously prepared 1951 Jaguar Mark V of Phoenix Aviation is a previous winner of the big car class and is likely to be ranked among the top ten on September 27^th.

Spectators will be dividing their time between the assessment of the 70 cars in front of the Racecourse grandstands and the 40 motorcycles in the parade ring.The big bikes always capture the attention of spectators and there are 25 bikes with engines exceeding 900 cc.

One of these is the Yamaha VMax of Matthew Wilson who has brought his bike from Kigali to Nairobi for the Concours.His rivals include the 1946 Harley Davidson of Bevan Beckmannwho is one of the three competitors representing the Vintage Motorcycle Club of South Africa.

The Nairobi based Cruzin Kings Group has seven entries, but they are out numbered by the 15 members of the Uganda Association who will be riding from Kampala to Nairobi to be at the Racecourse on September 27^th.The oldest motorcycles in the Concours are DKW of Sati Jabbal and the Triumph of Gerald Roelofs both of which were made in 1925.

 

Nasra Abdulrahman has proven that no one has to look dull because their religion subscription expects them to behave in a certain way. She has gone beyond the Bui Bui and the ordinary shoes for a look that will have you saying ..Daang, this is good. 

 She prides in modesty and keeps her style as such, looking good and while still conforming with what the society expects of her in terms of religion.  It is interesting to note that she experiments with different outfits for  above par sartorial elegance.

Gideon Kioko was accorded a kingly sendoff earlier today courtesy of his flamboyant son, the Nairobi senator, Mike Sonko. 

 His remains were transported to his final resting place aboard a limousine which was flanked side by side by a motorcade of more than 60  pricey cars and 10 outrider motor bikes. 

In addition, we are told that the old man was buried in a casket inlaid with gold and embellished all round with diamonds.

Trevor Noah is now limbering up to step into the shoes of beloved Daily Show creator, Jon Stewart, who left the show in August after 16 years. 

 The hotly-anticipated Noah debut will be the first time in history that an African has hosted a US late-night TV franchise.

To celebrate the upcoming debut of Trevor Noah as host of legendary “fake news” programme The Daily Show, DStv and Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) are opening the channel to Compact Plus and Compact subscribers for the first week of broadcast (28 September – 2 October).

I finally watched Straight outta Compton after seeing all the hullabaloo on social media with photos ghastly  displaying “Straight outta Githurai” “Straight outta Kahawa” and straight outta every other nook and crevice that we call home. 

 The movie lived to the hype, It strangely reminded me of “The Empire” with all the hip-hop swag but less colorful than the Empire as it imbibes how Compton looked like back in the late 80’s . 

Straight outta Compton is a tall tale of  a surburban  group of  NWA’s (Niggas With Attitudes)  emerges from the mean streets of Compton in Los Angeles, California, in the mid-1980s and revolutionizes Hip Hop culture with their music and tales about life in the hood.

It is a spell-binding movie about hip-hop, the blacks and the hassle to create music in a society that tries to mask the freedom of expression. 

It is a movie that hip-hop heads will particularly find pleasure in watching especially in the fact that it stars Dr Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy E. 

 

 

News that Vera Sidika was languishing in poverty hit many like a wrecking ball.

A certain blog claimed that the socialite was forced to close shop as she could no longer afford to keep The Vera Sidika Hair Lounge located at Green House Mall afloat.

We reached out to the socialite who refuted claims of going broke. Claiming that the reason why she was out of Green House was because she is moving her hair shop to Westlands as it’s growing into a salon and spa.

“Initially it was a hair shop just selling hair extensions but my main goal was to set up a salon so the hair shop was just laying foundation for it” she said.

Before going ahead and adding “It’s so lame for them to publish things they don’t understand especially when they don’t even try to reach out and find out facts! They didn’t ask anyone just because I’m moving they assume I’m closing.

“And how lame can one be to even think that moving shop means you’re broke?” she asks.

Ladies and gentlemen, you’ve probably been wondering why Elani haven’t been able to release a hit song since last year. You might have thought that they ran out of ideas. A multitude of movie buffs turned up recently at IMAX theatres in Nairobi for the premiere of ‘The Transporter Refuelled’.

The pre-screening event sponsored by M-Net saw attendees gain knowledge on how to rent their own movies via DStv Box Office.

Being the fourth of the Transporter franchise, ‘The Transporter Refuelled’ was even bigger and better with its new cast Ed Skrein playing Frank Martin.

Frank Martin, a former special-operations mercenary, is living a less perilous lifestyle by transporting classified packages for questionable people. He, however, finds himself in middle of a hazardous situation when prostitute Anna and her accomplices Gina, Maria, and Qiao orchestrate a bank robbery and kidnap Martin’s father to confront and kill Arkady Karasov, a human trafficker who had victimized Anna 15 years earlier.

The event was part of a series of monthly pre-screenings organized by M-Net in conjunction with DStv Explora for Nairobi fans who get to enjoy the movies before they premiere.

Mike Sonko doesn’t subscribe to the click of billionaires leaving in sumptuously rich estates in the city while their rural homes are in sorry state. Sonko’s family home in Mua Hills can easily be mistaken for one of the fancy homes in the leafy suburb of Karen.

The philanthropic Senator is a smart investor! Sonko’s rural home shines brighter than Las Vegas’ skyline in a moonless night.

The lawmaker decided to publicize his rural home ahead of his father’s burial which will be taking place today, Tuesday the 15^th September 2015.

Perhaps Sonko wanted to give mourners a glimpse of what they should expect when they arrive in Mua Hills.

He says those who will be turning up for his father’s burial doesn’t have to worry about dust or mud because the road is paved all the way to his farm.

“Note from the highway to the house the road is well tarmacked and the road will lead you straight to my house no worry in case of rain or vumbi. You are all welcome .”

I was taken aback earlier this morning with the news that the titillating actress and presenter at 1fm Neomi Wambui  had gotten born again over the weekend. How now? I wasn’t made aware. 

 It all came about after the sensational post that the actress made on social media indicating that she got baptized over the weekend: 

Today I was baptized at Nairobi Chapel. I can now boldly stand and say that I am an Ambassador of Christ. I want to thank my Dad and my friends Winnie and Gloria for coming through and witnessing this new chapter of my life.

First things first, her old man has some cool shades swag over there (applause is in order) 

According to Neomi when contacted by Ghafla, she revealed that she got baptized yesterday. 

“I didn’t get the chance to be baptized as a baby, that’s why it happened yesterday, It was taken out of context by many however, I am a religious person but yesterday was my baptism. .. Just that..”

Last Sunday, Gor Mahia fans flocked Nakuru town to watch their favorite team take on Ulinzi Stars at Afraha Stadium. Unfortunately one of Kogallo’s followers didn’t make it to her home!

Gor fans are mourning the sudden and painful departure of their diva, Jackie Ochieng, who lost her life in a grisly road accident.

The vibrant fans travelled safely all the way from Nakuru only to be robbed of her life a few kilometers from her Nairobi residence.

Jackie died on the spot when the car she was travelling in rammed into a stationary trailer along Landhies Road.

She was in company of other Gor Mahia fans who are battling for their lives at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

Unconfirmed report indicates the deceased was thrown out of the car the moment their vehicle smashed the stationary trailer.

Gor fans have been pouring in their condolences for the bereaved family and also spoke high of their fallen colleague.

After 5 long years dedicated to Tukuza, DJ Krowbar left the show alongside his co-host Kendi Ashitava.

According to the grapevine, Krowbar was part of the employees affected by the mass firing at KTN, something which he refuted by saying that he wasn’t even an employee of Standard Media to begin with.

So he wasn’t affected by the mass cutback as he was just hired on contract and chose not to renew his contract. So he opted to walk out instead as the job at Tukuza affected his side hustle.

Nevertheless, KTN has found a new replacement for the DJ, and his name is DJ Sadic who is the resident DJ at Tendereza. Here is DJ Sadic all suited up on the set of Tukuza

 

 

Knut chairman Wilson Sossion will crucify Caroline Mutoko over her opinion. The former Radio Queen is openly rooting for teachers not to be given a pay rise!

Teachers have crippled learning in all public schools after the government and President Uhuru decided to ignore Supreme Court directive to give them 50-60% pay rise.

Caroline Mutoko has since come forth to support the President’s stand on the pay rise issue. Uhuru has reiterated his government has NO money to foot the increment teachers demand.

The former Kiss FM presenter penned a lengthy article on The Star newspaper arguing her points why she thinks teachers don’t deserve the long overdue rise.

She explains Uhuru inherited teachers’ pay rise issue from his predecessors, Arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki. Caroline says the two former Presidents handed Uhuru Teachers’ problem and that Uhunye was only kind enough to address the issue when he could have chose to procrastinate and beat around the bush like how his predecessors did till his term comes to an end.

Another point highlighted by Caroline was that a soaring wage bill would cripple the economy. And she categorically said Teachers’ pay rise would catalyze the already surging wage bill.

She recommended Kenya to learn from Ghana’s mistake, didn’t heed to experts’ advice on escalating wage bill and their economy crumbled.

Last week, Bungoma County Government made headlines for purchasing 10 wheelbarrows for the exorbitant price of Sh1.09 million.

The very ordinary yet extremely expensive wheelbarrows were purchased by the county’s ministry of agriculture for Sh109, 320 each so that they could carry chicken from the slaughter house. I guess some people take their chicken way too seriously or was it just another poorly executed scam to further pilfer tax payers’ money?

The ridiculously priced wheelbarrows were the talk for a while before Mugo wa Wairimu’s spine-chilling video made headlines.

Now another purchase by a county government has made headlines, a beastly car bought by Kiambu County.

 

 

Since she is a very public figure, we all know details of Lillian Mulis’ life including that she has a 5 year old son with her husband Mr. Kanene.

2015 has been quite the year, mired in controversies of  shady men of cloth , drama and happy endings for those who walked down the aisle,  got engaged or found love; melancholy for those who lost loved ones- The list of the happenings is endless, below are the biggest stories and scandals this  year: 

1. Gloria Muliro Separated from her husband of five years

The house of cards came down on Gloria and Eric who threw in the towel after a marriage that took five years to crumble. The news of a gospel artist separating from her pastor husband rocked the media for weeks on end. 

2.Prophet Kanyari’s Saga.

Married to gospel sensation Betty Bayo, Kanyari  a shady man  of cloth  was outed for faking miracles still continues to baffle Kenyans  to date. His was a scandal of bought miracles, trotting for monies from innocent desperate church goers

3. Rose Muhando abortion allegations 

The story that top gospel artist Rose Muhando had procured an abortion rocked the interwebs for weeks she was criticized for it for weeks on end until it was later revealed that it had been done as a last medical resort to save her life. 

 

 

 

4. The Citizen Tv Saga:

There was a big saga that involved Swaleh Mdoe with allegations that he had been paid off by a politician to tweak the course of a report. It came as a shock to everyone that man of such lofty social standing,a man of his age and vast knowledge,a man as venerated and trailblazing as Swaleh Mdoe would,just like any other small-time TV reporter,be enticed and wooed into some unscrupulous money deal to ditch his ethics and short-change millions of information-deserving Kenyans.

5.Janet Mbugua’s Wedding 

 Finally, something to smile about: The royal wedding at the lush Chaka Ranch- while the wedding was star studded and worthy of  all fairy tale connotations, there were lows, social media wasn’t feeling Janet’s wedding gown and a few other details that nevertheless didn’t make it any less spectacular. 

6.Fidel Odinga’s demise 

The death of Raila Odinga’s son after a night out about brought the nation to a standstill with a million speculations on what could have led to the demise of Fidel. 

 7. Sharon Mundia’s Engagement

In the history of Kenya, never has an engagement story caused so much drama on social media. Sharon’s engagement to banker fiancee Lonina is a story that still made news scoop weeks after the fashion blogger was proposed to in Mt. Kenya. 

8.Mzee Ojwang’s demise. 

The demise of veteran actor Mzee Ojwang after an illness that saw him walk in and out of hospitals sparked a discussion on the plight of actors and actresses and the acting/fil industry in general. 

9. Pastor Ng’ang’a allegedly causing a fatal accident. 

In addition to reports that he had rammed onto an oncoming video while driving on the wrong side, it was also alleged that the pastor was drunk at the time and was racing an unidentified person at the time the accident occurred. Weeks of social media outcries saw the supposed rogue pastor appear in court to answer charges preferred against him. The case is ongoing. 

10. Mugo Wa Wairumu Scandal. 

A week ago a Facebook blogger, activist and a supposed gynecologist was outed after a video of him having his way with sedated women was aired on Tv. His case is still in court.  

 

They say age is just a number and for this unlikely couple, this old adage rings 100% true.

27-year-old Steven Tikubuwana sent many reeling in shock after her declared that he will marry his 70-year-old love, one Zaituni Nakanda.

Uganda’s Sunday Vision reveals that the couple who live together in Zaituni’s single-room at Kyungu, Mukono municipality met in 2014 after Tikubuwana lost his job as a shamba boy.

“I lost my job and was homeless for about two months. She welcomed me into her home. At first, she seemed afraid but later warmed up to me.” He told Sunday Vision.

This relationship has been met with disapproval by neighbors and friends who think it’s really unsettling for the two to date due to the immense age gap, after all Zaituni is old enough to be his grandmother leave alone his mother.

But the two remain unmoved by their naysayers with Zaituni saying that having a man by her side is a miracle especially a man like Tikubuwana who is unashamed of introducing her as his wife.

And to prove that they have been doing more than living together in their humble abode, Zaituni says that she is expecting a child with the young lad. Something which doctors who examined her at Mulago Hospital rebut. But she remains unfazed and believes she is with child despite being childless and never having her menses.
