International Electro DJ To Perform At A Free Event In the City

The second Afro Invasion is brought to you by Electrafique. If you like electro music, you can savour The Electrique DJs & The Beat Parade and DJ Cortega at the Tree House on Museum Hill this Friday, 29th June from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The event is free and under 21s will not be allowed. Dress code is Stylish & Sexy.

DJ Cortega is a reputable DJ who has been active since the mid 2000s and mostly works in Washington, D.C. and the New York area. He has played in some of the most prominent house and afrobeat clubs around the U.S. and has performed in Nairobi before at the annual Earth Dance Festival.

The Electrique DJs and The Beat Parade fuses African percussions and electro music beats. The ensemble holds a monthly event at the Brew Bistro and Lounge dubbed “Nairobi’s No. 1 Purely African Show.”

Debate of the day: Mbusi or Shaffie, who rules the airwaves?

A debate has been raging on for quite a while and it doesn’t seem to be abating anytime soon!

And the debate is, just who rules the airwaves between Shaffie and Mbusii-deh. There are two camps that have formed around the two radio personalities with each claiming victory over the other. And the debate has raised such a furore that it is time for Ghafla to put an end to it authoritatively and factually!

For starters, neither rules the airwaves at their time-slots, Classic FM’s beautiful temptress Ciku does! no buts, no if, no maybes.

Moving on swiftly, the debate has mainly been fuelled by two distinct groups of youth identifying with the two. “Ma-sufferer” formerly referred to as “wanatty” have identified with Mbusii whose impact on urban culture cannot be understated. Their antithesis has collected around Shaffie as they feel he best represents them. Shaffie is outgoing, confident (to an extent haughty) and more importantly, he is papered -a fact he isn’t shy to remind us all!

These two camps have held up the two radio-personalities banners as they engage in a tag of war over the title of the best radio personality which to them is synonymous with the most listened to.

But Uncle Chim Tuna has come to burst their bubble: in reality they enjoy roughly the same amount of radio love. According to some inside information i got me mitts on, the only variation is based on a day-to-day analysis of the stats. One day Shaffie bests Mbusii and the next, Mbusii bests Shaffie.

They perform this waltz over and over again and sometimes they get just about the same listenership.

Simply put, Ciku’s “Busted” rules that time slot by a mile and the rest are left to contend with what’s left.

Collo about to do one for the daughter

A child can inspire lots of great work as we have seen all through life, even down to music. Most artistes have found it almost impossible not to create a song for their child. It’s a beautiful thing really.

Self proclaimed ‘king wa rap’, Collo, wants to join in on the list of celebrity parents who have dedicated a whole song to their children. I haven’t come across any song with the same concept that has disappointed. Wahu pulled it off with ‘sweet love’ and so did Jay Z with ‘Glory’.

Collo, Phoebe and their beautiful daughter, Tawala.

Now, Collo is all ready and set to step into the booth in collaboration with Sauti Sol to do one for his daughter, Tawala Oyieli Majale. The song will be titled ‘Dreamer’ and Tawala will be featured in the video, according to Collo.

Collo in studio with Sauti Sol.

I have a feeling this will be one great track.

BBA Update: Alex nearly gets beaten over alcohol!

Sometimes i can’t help but shake my head when i watch the BBA shenanigans the Kenyan contestants are up to!

Alex and his partner in crime Malawi’s Wati got up to some mischief last night when they decided to pull an Italian Job on their fellow housemate’s (Kyle from Uganda’s) drinks.

The housemates had been playing drinking games and Malonza (Alex’s brother) had even pulled out earlier that night -due to better judgement. As the night wore on, drinks got more and more scarce prompting the two to hatch their mischievous plan.

Kyle wasn’t amused and he called Alex out on it. The clearly inebriated Alex could only muster a few slurred words in his defence and Kyle who is otherwise laid back flipped! Zambia’s Tamara also got involved taking up the Ugandan’s cause and fueling “stupid fire with crazy fuel”.

Kyle then switched focus to Wati (who is rather lively when drunk) and some not so kind words flew around. thankfully, no fisticuffs were exchanged and no disqualifications arose from the altercation.

All these incidences involving Kenyans seem to revolve around alcohol and one of our readers even lamented the fact that the stereotype about Kenyans was being propagated by their actions. Truly sad! watch the video below:

Blast From the Past: Prezzo

Prezzo is currently representing Kenya in the Upville House on Big Brother Stargame. The rapper has almost always been on the limelight. Even when he wasn’t releasing music, he still made headlines by embroiling himself in beef with fellow artiste, Jaguar.

Before that, Prezzo mostly made news thatnks to his bragging and flashy lifestyle, which he showed in his videos. Early in his career, almost every video he put out made headlines for the splurging and what some considered high concept. He made what might be the Kenya’s first extended play video with P.R.E.Z.Z.O, which was directed by one of the biggest names in entertainment then, Tedd Josiah. The talking point was that the video was shot on a Kshs. 500,000 budget, an astronomical figure at the time. Hell, even now.

As the years have gone by, Prezzo’s videos still somewhat try to be high concept but his efforts get drowned out when everyone is trying to put out the best. He made a video for his first single when an artiste undertaking a video shoot was a huge deal in the entertainment scene. His first video was big considering that era of entertainment. First of all, it had hot cars. That was huge then. It had half-naked chicks washing cars. That was considered too explicit then. It had a couple of celebrity cameos. A fairly new concept then.

Between then and now, Prezzo has produced one album and a fair number of cringe-worthy moments on TV. By today’s standards, the half-naked chicks would be considered two-thirds dressed. And that spanking scene now be considered a polite greeting. So, now we take a look back at Prezzo, before everything: Naleta Action/Let’s Get Down (featuring Nazizi).

Rejected by TPF, He’s Back To Prove Tedd Josiah Wrong

He was rejected from the first Tusker Project Fame by then judge, Tedd Josiah. And now he is back, ready to prove the reality TV competition and one of the best producers in the continent at the time wrong. It has taken Don Isma a while, but for him, it’s never too late for a comeback. He is out to prove a point.

The 23 year old R&B artiste has previously done a Michael Jackson tribute song, If Tomorrow Never Comes, right after the pop icon’s death. Other than Michael Jackson, Don Isma also cites Whitney Houston as one of his influences. It’s All In Your Eyes–the song he is he is hoping to bounce back with–is, apparently, getting airplay on local radio stations already.

During an interview with a local radio station, Don Isma said, “They thought that was it but they were wrong, ’cause what they didn’t know is that every finishing line is the beginning of a new race.” Listen to the song below and decide if Don Isma has proved Tedd Josiah and TPF wrong.

Prezzo shows gratitude to Goldie for saving him

It is about time Prezzo showed some little gratitude to the Nigerian Head Of House, Goldie for saving his neck from eviction.

Prezzo has been going on and on about how much he wants to be put back on eviction, acting like he doesn’t want to win the game. Can’t he see that Goldie is madly in-love with him and that the reason for her depression is… okay, I admit, Goldie is just miserable like that.

The point is, Prezzo has finally indirectly admited that he is grateful for Goldie saving him. “Thank you for saving the Masai  warrior , I appreciated what you did.” Prezzo told Goldie.

All that remains now, is to see what Goldie will tell Keitta, since she is the one who put him in the eviction spot. This should be really interesting. Will she get on her knees again?

DJ Cleo Rocks Nairobi

The Ngong’ Racecourse was the venue of what will sure go down as the best concert of the year. Whoever wants to top it, will have to work real hard to unseat the combined awesomeness of Camp Mulla, Madtraxx, Just-A-Band, DJ Cleo and the Teddy Bears with appearances by Kora, Mejja, DJ Styles, G-Money and more.

The Fahrenheit Party stage was set up next to the tracks. Right after a series of DJ sets, Camp Mulla performed their best hits, Fresh All Day, Addicted, Holding It Down, etc, and showed everyone why they deserved their BET nomination.

Madtraxx killed with the live band, even doing a reggae version of Boda Boda, switching up from a rock one. He was joined by Mejja for Roundi Hii, and Kora for Skamaress and Ita Waiter.

DSC01234

Just-A-Band killed as they did two days earlier at the Alliance Francaise during the World Music Day event with a set that included Twende Kazi, Hey!, now certified party favourite, Huff+Puff and the still very popular Ha-He.

DSC01239

Then came DJ Cleo with a Kenyan scarf over his head at around 1:30 a.m. The crowd had been waiting long enough and he definitely lived up to his billing. He shed most of his clothing one by one, to reveal a Kenyan rugby shirt, later vest and by the end of his set, the only thing covering his torso were the tattoos.

DSC01278 2

DSC01328

Despite being fairly unknown in Kenya, the Teddy Bears were arguably the best performers of the night. They managed to keep the crowd hyped with their infectious, synchronized dance moves and energetic performance. DJ Cleo would occassionally join the Bears but the kids always had it under control. They would also occassionally interact with the audience in Swahili. Cleo’s set was actually much longer than it seemed. It’s hard to believe how he kept the energy up till the end considering he was on stage for almost two hours.

DSC01312

Throughout breaks in DJ Cleo’s performance, the crowd had been chanting for Facebook. He granted them their wish just when he looked like he was done, and the fans went wild. That capped the end of a wild and successful event by Avant Garde PR. As earlier noted, it’s going to be hard to beat this.

2012 BET Awards Introduces First Ever Interactive Mobile Voting App

The 2012 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards are barely 5 days away and Kenya’s very own Camp Mulla are in contention for an award in the International Artiste: Africa Category.

Click here to read more about Camp Mulla’s BET nomination

Well, the organizers of the awards ceremony have made this another special first as the awards will feature a mobile application that will incorporate a series of interactive features for celebrities and fans alike. There are games on the application which allow the audience to vote for their nominees as well as predict the order of performers on the night.

One game lets its users vote with the slide of a finger, by shooting disks into a moving goal. Basically, the more disks a user makes in 15 seconds, the more votes he or she will tally for a specific nominee. The high scorers for each nominee will have their Twitter avatars and handles featured in the game’s top-left corner for all users to see, tied to what developers term as people loving fame.

The other game is titled the Line-Up, and is a fantasy sports-style game in which users can predict the order of the award show’s performers, compare their lists with either friends and celebrities and find out if they’ve won prizes.

Click here to find out more about voting for Camp Mulla for the BET Awards

To cap it all off, both games allow players to share their scores and line-ups social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. It would be interesting to see how Kenyan awards organizers could incorporate such cutting-edge interactive technology for future galas in the country.

NTV Kenya Redesigns Website

NTV Kenya has given its website an interesting overhaul and redesign which sees the site sport a brand new background colour and a wide array of interconnected features that will make it easier to access information on programmes airing on the television station.

The brand new ntv.co.ke sees the predominant blue neutralized by colour white and the programming content segmented clearly to make it easier to access specific information. The sectors include Local Programmes, Soaps, Music Shows, International Dramas and an updated schedules list.

There are also links to NTV’s official social media channels on Facebook, Twitter and You Tube as well as a news panel extension.

Jalang’o and Erick Omondi battle it out on the basketball court

It’s actually very interesting to see some of our comedians off their comfort zone as comedians Jalang’o and Erick Omondi (Omosh) proved to us last week.

The two enjoyed the attention of the audience as they tried to showcase their basketball skills on the court at the Friday Night Live Basketball games.

They were both requested to select a team randomly from the audience while at the same time, playing around with the ball. It is in between the choosing of players that we discovered that Jalang’o might have had some history in the game, after he pulled an awesome stunt. It was unfortunate however to see him fail on the second attempt.

Check out the video of the crazy match below. Speaking of which, I wonder who the guy doing all the jimnastics on the court is. So desparate for attention it’s actually saddening.

Goldie gets down on her knees

Barbs finally exited the Big Brother House. You may wonder why there is a feeling of joy expressed in these words. Well, simply because she was Prezzo’s biggest threat and quite honestly, she never did anything interesting really except gossip a lot.

Anyway, Goldie may have contributed to Barbs’ big chance of eviction simply by pulling off Prezzo from the eviction list. This fact did not go well with Goldie herself as the guilt ate her up slowly.

As Barbs was leaving the house yesterday, Goldie could not hold it any longer. She stopped Barbs on her tracks and immediately started the saddest apology ever seen on the Big Brother show. It got even worse when she got down to her knees, holding Barbs hands, crying helplessly.

The saddest thing about all these is that Barbs was not worth Goldie’s tears at all. We all know how much she gossiped about her and Prezzo and fact is that she never liked her in the first place. This just goes to show how clean hearted Goldie is. It’s just depressing though, how desperate she can get at times.

Kenrazy lauds Jua Cali

After their recent collaboration, rapper Kenrazy has indeed proved to be one of the most hard working rappers in Kenya. Always up to something in the studio, precisely what an artiste should be doing.

Much appreciation he has shown to fellow rapper, Jua Cali, to the extent of dedicating a whole freestyle session to him and their song.

Check out the shout out below.

The Producers of ‘Better Days’ and ‘Changing Times’ to Hold Auditions For New Series

Are you extremely passionate about acting and just looking for that one true break that will open the doors to a successful acting career? Then don’t let this opportunity pass you by.

The producers of such rivetting Kenyan television series such as ‘Better Days’ and ‘Changing Times’ are looking for fresh acting talent for a brand new television series.

Insignia Productions will be holding auditions at the Teleposta Towers (otherwise known as the General Post Office G.P.O) on the 20th floor from 9.00am to 3.00pm on Saturday 30th June 2012.

Be punctual and all the best!

Junia spills the beans. Snitch!

It’s about that time when the new lady in the house tries to win over the affections of the rest of the veteran housemates. Right now, Junia is that lady and seeing that she has nothing interesting so far to put out to the celebrities, she decided to give them inside information on Maneta’s head.

You can remember the little times that Junia hang out with Maneta, as she received gossip and briefing from her, about everyone in the house. It is clear that Maneta was a really depressed lady and so she took this out on everyone who didn’t agree with her.
Yesterday just before the eviction, Junia took the liberty to fill Barbs and Lady May in on Maneta’s opinion on all of them.
Watch the video below to get to know what she snitched out.

Gallery: Tuvuke Peace Tour Goes to Mombasa Polytechnic

The Tuvuke Peace Tour stuck to the coastal region after a massively successful showing at Shimo la Tewa last week. 2012 Groove Award Male Artiste of the Year Eko Dydda continued to thrill the audience at the Mombasa Polytechnic, as the Clean the Airwaves (CTA) team took to mobilizing them to shun tribalism and push for a peaceful Kenya.

The Tuvuke- Initiative for Peaceful and Fair Electoral process in Kenya is a systematic effort aimed at developing collaborative pre-emptive actions and activities to forestall any pre-planned or spontaneous violence before, during and after the elections and to equip Kenyans with knowledge and skills so that individually and collectively they can enhance peace and justice.

Here are a couple of pictures from the peace tour edition at the Mombasa Polytechnic:

New Music Alert: Kenyan House Music Setting The Pace!

When we talk about Kwaito &/or House music, we more often or not think about South Africa right?

And with the resurgence of Kwaito and South African House, DJ Cleo, DJ Soul T and the Teddy Bears come to mind aye?

Well, these Kenyan artists known as Mababa are now looking to change that fact. The two have produced a track titled “Bure Kabisa” and they are looking to change the African House scene one track at a time.

These guys have a stellar track which they should be hoping to use to first conquer the Kenyan, East African and eventually African market. Hit or miss, you decide.

Check it out right here:

Hate-speech on Radio and Vernacular Stations

Contrary to popular belief, hatespeech on radio is not just something that affects Kenya but is a global vice spread across an extensive array of demographics and geography. The element that seems to power up the hatespeech on radio even more is targeted rhetorts and responses especially on vernacular stations spread throughout the country.

In a recent radio survey report carried out by the Kenya Advertising Research Foundation and featured right here on Ghafla!, it was found out that a convincing 55% of the top radio stations in the country are vernacular. These are led by Inooro FM, Ramogi FM, Kameme FM, Musyi FM and Coro FM.

Click here to read more about that vernacular feature

It is no wonder then that influential personalities in Kenya find it prudent to take their vendettas to vernacular stations, which are massively popular, and misuse the airtime to fuel ethnic tensions and further individualistic agendas. Though the country has a literacy rate well over 75%, it is unfortunate that a vast majority succumb to political manipulations which evoke these kinds of emotions which frankly would not do Kenya as a whole any good.

Just this past weekend alone, a blogpost that found its way to social media circles caused some outrage as it came out that the lyrics to some vernacular music was in fact an attack on other communities or against specific individuals. While clearly stating that not all vernacular music is bad and that not all the members of the specific community are chauvinistic or archaic in their thinking, the writer saught to sensitize the public on this pertinent issue.

What motivates select radio stations to furnish these negative sentiments with airtime may vary widely from monetary benefit to in-house policies but the Media Council of Kenya has come out strongly against stations which condone hatespeech. For example, the Council admitted to receiving numerous complaints about FM stations and Coast-based publications which outrightly give hatespeech a forum.

During a two-day media workshop held in Mombasa last week for editors, the MCK said they had summoned the concerned media houses over the allegations but some confessed that they had no idea that such content was being broadcast on their frequencies. Whether or not what they say is true will remain for speculators and investigators to judge but the one certain thing is that as Kenyans we need to not just alter our mind sets but shun being at the whims of miscreant leaders.

The Dj Cleo concert rocked! Here is proof!

If you missed the concert, your 48 hrs were wasted!

And if you attended the concert, call up someone who missed the concert and repeat after me: “It sucks to be you!” and repeat it till the hangup the phone rather miffed.

Because indeed, it sucks to be these individuals.

It’s hard to believe but aye, the day came and went and i was there along with a gang’a good party people.

DJ CLEOS ENTRANCE

DJ Cleo makes his entrance.

DJ CLEO GERRIN LOVE

DJ Cleo getting mad love!

DJ CLEO SHOWING THE RUGBY TEAM LOVE

Kenya’s rugby team got some love!

DJ CLEO AND THE TEDDY BEARS 2

And that ladies and gents is just the tip of the iceberg! We all had fun to the wee hours of the morning and you didn’t! once again, hats off to everyone who was involved in giving Kenyans such a stellar time! That means Avant Garde PR, their auxilliary staff, the bouncers and the cops who were on site.

Ladies almost fighting over Malonza

As Malonza enjoys himself every single day in the Big Brother House, more ladies are falling victims to his alleged sweet charms. Junia took the worst fall, but luckily Malonza was saved by Biggie with Junia’s transfer to Upville.

It seems that Malonza charm is really getting to the other ladies and he might not be noticing it just yet. Uganda’s Janette and Zambia’s Talia are now on the chase after Malonza and non is ready to back out for the other.

As much as the two ladies are good friends, they are both aware of their mutual attraction to Malonza, though Janette denies it. The Downvillers had their dance party and Talia was seriously dressed to kill. The two friends then started chatting about Malonza and Talia had to ask the big question. Having in mind Jannette and Malonza’s kiss, Talia asked her if there was anything going on between the two. “There is nothing serious going on and I didn’t even enjoy the kiss,” said Jannette moments before Malonza walked in on the conversation.

It later got serious when Jannette stood up to dance with Malonza in what may have looked like a strategy to make Talia jealous, as she seductively danced on him, Talia watching helplessly, realising that she might just have lost the fight.

Barbs kicked out of BBA, what does this mean for Prezzo?

Ok, so the wicked witch of the west (or south depending on who does the choosing) is out.

And not a moment too soon either! How someone this duplicitous, this conniving could have survived -wait, isn’t that the whole point of the game?
Where was i though? Ah yes, Barbz is out but that doesn’t mean that Prezzo can rest easy. This would be the time to go about setting up strategic alliances. The King of Bling should take the time afforded him by studying the other housemates as this would be the time to galvanize his allies against a common foe.

Barbs was the house’s antagonist and now that she has been slain, there is a vaccuum. Nature abhors vaccuum so it will be looking to fill that void. Prezzo should be careful not to be cast in that role. Now is the time to begin casting the spoilt brat image he seems to have cultivated. He should treat Goldie right and he should begin doing chores.
now is the time for Prezzo to make a change. Any changes in his personality will simply be chalked down to barbz leaving with her negative aura. Ity would appear genuine. He needs to begin playing the game.
Over in downville, Kenya’s boys are doing swimmingly well. They are evaded another round of nomination under the radar so we can rest content in the knowledge that Kenya is safe for yet another 1 week atleast.

How Man Wazimu Got To Work With Just-A-Band

Man Wazimu’s Emergency Pills is his biggest local track. It’s the ultimate gateway song into the reggae artiste’s music. It’s the track you have to listen to if you want to sample his style and acquaint yourself with the rest of his discography. It is also the track that made Just-A-Band want to work with him.

Just-A-Band’s Blinky Bill says he was listening to the track with social music singer and UN Habitat Messenger of Truth, Sara Mitaru, when the idea to have him for one of their concerts came up. By the time they got a hold of him, they were planning the Kudishnyao! street concert outside the Goethe Institut in the CBD. Through contacts, Sara Mitaru searched around for him and Man Wazimu agreed to perform at Kudishnyao!

During an interview with Ghafla!, Man Wazimu corroborated the story and revealed that he does listen to Just-A-Band from time to time, “Yeah, I like some of their beats.” Man Wazimu’s debut album, My Say is out now.

Fahrenheit Party: A tale of good event planning

DJ Cleo and the Teddy Bears were performing at the Fahrenheit Party with a host of other celebrities.

If you missed the concert, your weekend was a regrettable waste of 48 hrs. The excitement at the venue was tangible; you could cut through it with a knife and have some for dinner!

First off, i shall talk about the security. For the first time in a long while, i was attended to by bouncers who wore a smile. The security team was friendly! They greeted us like we were old chums and patted us down in a civil manner. And there were patrols out in the parking lot to curtail any misbehaviour (read partaking of marijuana, parking lot sexual shenanigans and theft). The organisers of the whole affair get two thumbs up for their effort at keeping everyone safe.

Next, the actual concert. The concert was mad fun! And everything ran like clockwork! The DJ sets were awesome and they ran for as long as they were scheduled to then the main acts came on stage and the ripped it! Each performer ripped their set then left so even DJ Cleo came on stage on time and he had the time for an encore performance of the monster jam “Facebook”.

All in all, all of Kenya’s event organisers need to learn something from Avant Garde PR’s playbook. These guys made sure no fights broke out, everything ran smoothly and there were no inceidences of muggings or such boneheaded misfortunes.

A big thumbs up to the whole team that organized the show and a big thumbs up to the staff that made it all possible. An even bigger thumbs up to the friendly security team who were simply stellar!

Three Adawnage Members Get Engaged

Three members of one of the finest gospel groups in the country, Adawnage, have gotten engaged over the last year. Coming off winning Group of the Year at the 2012 Groove Awards, the group members have inched a step closer towards marriage.

One of the groups members, Frank Muriuki, engaged his girlfriend (not a band member) last year. The group’s lead singer, Roselyn Kaki Mwihaki also recently got engaged to her boyfriend (not a band member) who–rumor has it–works in the airline industry. Kaki also recently had a ruracio. Another band member, Robert Njuguna, proposed to his girlfriend a few weeks ago during a gig in Mombasa. Frank and Kaki’s weddings are set to take place later this year while Robert’s will take place early next year.

The band has released one album, Safari, and have seen two of their tracks, Uwezo and Safari blaze the gospel music scene. They have also been nominated for the Africa Gospel Music Awards to be held in London next month.

Photo Of The Day: DJ Cleo On A KBS

DJ Cleo’s second day in the country has been spent doing press to promote the Farenheit Party concert at the Ngong’ Race Course tomorrow evening. Avante Garde PR held a press conference for him earlier today at Under The Radar restaurant and he has been doing the rounds on radio stations in the city. Between Capital FM and 1 FM, he took time to sample our local transport, makanga style, as can be seen on this photo.

Local, African and International Artistes DJ Cleo Wants To Work With

DJ Cleo flew into the country on Thursday for the Farenheit Party to be held on Saturday at the Ngong’ Race Course, which he is going to be headlining. He will have local acts, Camp Mulla, Madd Traxx and Just-A-Band opening for him. We asked him about the artistes he’d want to work with.

Internationally, he wants to collaborate with rapper Busta Rhymes. On African artistes, he said, “I’ve already done Cabo Snoop, so now maybe Ice Prince.” He also spoke about another African artiste he’s already begun the process of trying to work together with. “I’ve been trying to work with D’Banj, but we always have scheduling conflicts. I guess we were all just busy and I wanted something that could work out for both me and him.”

We also asked him about the Kenyan artiste he wants to work with the most. “I’ve been speaking with Wyre about a collaboration but nothing concrete now…it’s going to happen, anyway,” he responded.

MTech Offers DJ Cleo A Deal

Avant Garde PR held a press conference at Under The Radar restaurant to formally present South African artiste, DJ Cleo to the media. There was a light moment during the Q&A session when the artiste got offered a deal by MTech and was even welcomed into the communications house before he even agreed, let alone sign the documents.

A representative from MTech was at the event and he tried wooing DJ Cleo into signing a marketing deal with the company. “We’re really looking forward to working with you and we would love it if you’d join us. We are already working with Camp Mulla, and we want you, too. Maybe we could talk about it.” As Cleo was still thinking about what to say, the rep added, “Welcome to MTech. We look forward to working with you” sending the room into fits of laughter.

In a past interview with a local magazine, MTech CEO, Ikechukwu Anoke spoke about their interest in breaking into the South African market. “The company’s strategy is to develop and monetise talent. We’re putting in money now and promoting the talent we’ve signed to another level.” he said. In the same interview, he also said that they are getting ready to launch South African artistes that they had already signed into the African market.

Equilibrium, the Black and White Photo Exhibition Ends This Weekend

Equilibrium is the first exhibition by Zia, a Kenyan fine artist and photographer captivated and inspired by black & white photography. He believes that monochrome distills to the essence of the photograph, allowing the viewer to see tones, contrast and texture that would otherwise be missed. He uses long exposures of up to 10 minutes to capture the movement in water and sky to achieve the feeling of other-worldliness found in most of his pictures.

Zia is a trained analogue photographer that honed his skills in his own dark room before transitioning into digital photography 2 years ago. That said he still remains faithful to analogue techniques, processing his images on computer but limiting any manipulation to techniques that could be replicated in the darkroom.

Equilibrium shall showcase 30 photographs from various locations around the world including the beaches of the Indian Ocean, the lakes of the Great Rift and France, waterways in Venice and the lochs of Scotland. The exhibition runs from 15th – 24th June 2012 at the Michael Joseph Centre

This is how the ‘public apology’ was made

Astar and Allan Aaron collaborated just a few months back to create this wonderful music that has had everyone talking and liking. We featured the track sometime last week, just after it was released.

The crew now treats us to a ‘behind the scenes’ footage which is full of backstage information that I’m sure you currently don’t know, just like we didn’t.

This video simply shows how the video was made and all that it took to be made. Watch it, keeping in mind that this song portrays Astar’s actually life.

The Unique ‘Spotless’ Alternative Gospel Track Teaser

Christ Cycoz, an amazing alternative music Gospel-Rap trio based in Nairobi, Kenya. consists of Benard “Ben” Kariuki, Clinton “Dambiz” Andambi and Brian “KaGz” Kagiri and was formed in late 2010 after they graduated from High School.

The trio met while in Upper hill School where they were members of The Christian Union and The School Choir and formed strong friendships during the time they spent there.

The group members have extremely diverse tastes in music where they draw their influence and therefore they incorporate these different styles in their music.

All in all, the trio has one goal in common, to reach out and minister to the young people in society so that they can lead positive lifestyles putting God in the driver’s seat and letting him take control.

Interesting to note though is that the track was first written when the group was still in high school and recorded twice. The spotless we have now is actually the third version of the song, (thus the intro: “We had to do this again and again and again and again and again”).
Christ Cycoz say that ‘Spotless’ is basically a testimony of God’s grace to Christians for taking away our stain of sin and iniquity. Isaiah 1:18: “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

Kenyan rapper tells us about Turkana mulla

“Itabidi kujuana. We unajua nina shamba Turkana?” This are the interesting lyrics to the track titled ‘Turkana pela’ by rapper O-mae from Embakasi.

When I first heard this track, the first thing that hit my mind was the fact that the beats are somehow similar to Tyga’s ‘rack city’. But then again, listening a little bit further, O-mae comes in with his own unique flow and voice with really interesting lyrics.

As everybody claims pride over Turkana, this rapper is showing the love through his awesome flow.

It evident that way should be paved for this upcoming artist who already has seven tracks on Reverbnation, one of them being a refix of Jay Z’s ‘Otis‘.

Have a listen to ‘Turkana Pela’ below.

And now, the teaser to Kayvo’s ‘Rollin’ video

After checking out the ‘behind-the-scenes’ video of the ‘rollin’ video shoot, I know you are probably wondering how the video will be, in terms of quality and style. Well, the teaser is now available right here.

Kayvo will be launching the whole video in about two week’s time and all will be revealed. Known for his fast and mixed language lyrics, Kayvo is probably one of the fastest rising and rappers in Kenya.

 Check out the teaser.

Keitta and Barbs hate on Prezzo

I would expect all these and more from Barbs considering her history with Prezzo, but Keitta. He has been acting all cool with Prezzo, spending time with him and sharing jokes and pranks. Little did we know that he is just another Maneta.

As the Upville housemates celebrated their task victory, Keitta and Barbs were busy entertaining Keagan and Junia with Prezzo stories. Keitta was all about how Prezzo is not gangster and how Keagan is much more gangster than Prezzo.

Barbs filled them in on his relationship with Goldie and how frustrating they make the rest of the housemates. All this while, Lady May did not say a word. She just sat and listened to these sorry contestants. Now that’s a real friend.

I am so disappointed with Keitta right now, it’s actually better if I stop writing this. Just look at the video below and you’ll probably feel what I feel right now.
