I hate to admit it but i was wrong!
I have always fought anyone who said that Kenyans don’t support local talent but i have been proved soarly wrong! And i want to use Camp Mulla as the backdrop for today’s sermon.
*Clears throat* Ladies and gentlemen of Kenyan heritage, Camp Mulla; one of Kenya’s best musical acts were nominated for a slew of awards down south in Kliptown Soweto (south Africa) for the recently concluded Chanel O Music Video Awards (CHOMVA). And we as a nation had one job to do. One simple job to do but we failed them when it mattered the most!
All we had to do was sacrifice some coins to text and vote for Camp Mulla who have finally put Kenyan music in a respectable light when it’s mentioned in the same breath as Nigeria and South Africa.

Camp Mulla made some of my vocal cousins stop taunting us about the quality of Kenyan music but we couldn’t vote if not for them then to see our flag wave high. We have let down more than just Camp Mulla, we have let ourselves down. Channel O opened the door that allowed Naija music to gro in Africa. Camp Mulla getting exposure as the winners instead of my compatriot Davido would have been awesome for us.
and i am reminded of the number of times i have heard artists such as Man Wazimu, Dora, Coola Gang amongst many more have bemoaned the lack of local support and i have often argued with them but like Saul on the road to Damascus the truth has hit me. Now enter Paul!
i have seen that Kenyans do not care for their own.
We want ready made stars. But what we are forgetting is that success, even musical success is forged through blood, sweat and tears! When Camp Mulla came out, they were trashed and classified under bubblegum hiphop. They were told that their style was too bourgeois for the Kenyan music scene. But i dare ANYONE AND THEIR AUNT to show me any Kenyan that affected African pop culture as these kids have! None has!

We have such budding talent waiting to be heard but kenyans aren’t listening. We want ready made stars and that’s why the kenyan entertainment scene is littered with broken dreams and one hit wonders! Uncle Chim Tuna isn’t being negative, he’s being pragmatic.

Kenrazy said it best, “Tuji-supporty!” (I hope i’ve said that right). We could only win in the East African category and i respect what Sauti Sol accomplished by doing that but come on, SAUTI SOL ARE BETTER THAN LIQUIDEEP! They should not be relegated to playing in the kiddy pool! East Africa as i said before is a small pond for the leading Kenyan acts and forcing them to stay there is wrong! Sauti Sol Camp Mulla and Just A Band shouldn’t have to compete in the East African category of award shows. They should compete against the best Africa has to offer!

Kenya is a nation awash with talent but no one will ever know this unless you support your own! Vote for Kenya every chance you get. Let us give beautiful nations such as Nigeria a run for their money when it comes to voting. Otherwise, we as may as well go back to the dark musical days of “rusha mikono kwenye hewa ni kama muna pewa alafu shuta shtuka na kukatika!” days.
Uncle Chim Tuna has spoken!
