When Bonoko was Fired from ghetto radio last week, i almost cried, i thought, how unfair can the world be? But i remembered, don’t expect an angry bull not to gore you just because you are a vegetarian, the same way don’t expect life to throw you random treats because  you are a nice person. Bonoko was one of the nicest guys ever, you know, fun, especially his lingo that was riddled with a heavy African accent that made me laugh hours on end.

well shortly after he was dismissed, he took to Facebook to lament on his calamity as well as pray for his nemesis, that the gods who dwell at cloud nine would repay him (the nemesis) in kind- give it time..

So i think Bonoko should have taken cue after his friend Mbusii left for Radio Jambo, he should have fired himself,  his sacking was a looming cloud that was bound to fall sooner or later, it happened sooner, 

After Firing Bonoko, Ghetto radio got a new acquisition, Kelvin Migongo who has been a producer and reggae host  at Milele Fm! He will be hosting Reggae shows at ghetto radio sooner than you know, apparently my source disclosed that Milele fm knows nothing of this sort since the secret meeting between Kelvin and some Ghetto radio Tops shots took place at a secret facility (read Petma Hotel In town)

The meeting which was on  Saturday 20th September 2014 saw to it that Bonoko and Mbusii were replaced.. Kelvin Migongo replaced Bonoko at Ghetto radio and Mbusii at Tribeka Where Mbusii had been hosting reggae shows on Thursdays…

Talk of eviscerating two birds with one stone…. 

Bonoko will not be at Ghetto radio anymore, I don’t know what will become of him, but when i do, i shall let you know.. promise.

Mbusii will no longer be hosting reggae shows at Triibeka on Thursdays…

Gospel singer Q Tasi is keeping his faith strong by overcoming all the temptation coming on his way; the singer recently underwent a terrible encounter.

Q Tasi was recently taken hostage by unknown assailants in an incident which was meant to test his faith; the resilient singer kept on singing and praising the lord throughout the video. Oops! Q Tasi was only taken hostage in his new video and not in the real world. The video is a depiction of the challenges the singer is facing ever since he converted to singing gospel songs.

Dubbed “Ni Bwana”, Q Tasi’s song praises the Lord in being with the singer since he saw the light. The song is a revelation of Q Tasi’s journey through the world of evangelism which he took a year ago. Here is the video check it out:

Willy Paul’s name may be smeared with controversy but he is not beyond redemption.

He is like a phoenix, every time he burns up, he manages to rise up from the ashes. Well, Willy Paul seems to have bounced back from his song stealing scandal or rather he has chosen to ignore it and is flying to Mombasa. With a beautiful; girl…but not for anything sinister, she is one of the fans chosen to fly with him to Mombasa. He shared this photo with the caption:

It is evident that Kenya will not be represented in this year’s edition of the 2014 MOBO awards after none of the Kenyan artists was nominated for the prestigious accolades.

nominated for the MOBO best African Act.

Others include Afikan Boy, DJ Clock, Dr Sid, Fuse ODG, Mafikizolo, Mista Silva, Tiwa Savage and Wiz Kid.

So what does the absence of Kenyan artists from the list imply? Has Kenyan work not reached the required heights for nomination? Are our African brothers and sisters outshining us in the industry?

These and many more are the questions that should awaken Kenyan Artists. kenya needs representation overseas.

The MOBO Awards are awards in MUSIC OF BLACK ORIGIN established in 1996 by Kanya King and Andy Rufell and they are held annually in the UK to recognise artists of  any ethnicity or nationality performing black music.

A writer from Standard Digital yesterday found himself in an awkward position after he syndicated a story from an unreliable source.

Well not exactly unreliable, but more of satirical source. The writer took a story from the National Reporter a famed satirical site and passed on the fake news that Facebook would be charging its users for use of the site. It was said that Facebook users would now be expected to pay 300 Shillings per month for Facebook use and if you could not afford you just had to post the words, ‘I AM POOR FACEBOOK PLEASE WAIVE MY MONTHLY FEE’. Then add the hashtag #FacebookMonthlyFee. And Facebook would not charge you .

Unfortunately the writer seemed not to have checked the authenticity of the site which even had a disclaimer earlier on the page that stated “National Report is a news and political satire web publication, which may or may not use real names, often in semi-real or mostly fictitious ways. All news articles contained within National Report are fiction, and presumably fake news. “

7 years ago, on 22nd September, 2007, the music world, both gospel and secular, came to a stand still when the worst of news hit the airwaves: Gospel Diva ANGELA CHIBALONZA was no more!

The darling in the gospel music platform had perished in a grisly road carnage along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway after the car she was travelling in collided head-on with an on-coming track.

Celebrities have died before but CHIBALONZA’s demise was so untimely and utterly shocking. She had just finished performing in a show at Nakuru’s Afraha stadium before she met her untimely death.

 

The Yahweh hit maker has been missed for the last seven years but her inspirational music still rules the airwaves in Kenya and across Africa.

Chibalonza who had migrated and lived in Kenya was flown to her native Congo where she was laid to rest.

Even as the world celebrate her seven years on, CHIBALONZA will remain as one of Kenya and Africa’s most talented and influencial gospel artist of all time.

Rest in Peace CHIBALONZA.

You are all aware that Caroline Mutoko will be leaving The Kiss100 Breakfast Show on 29th of September, which is this coming Monday.

Caroline will be giving her morning slot to Shaffie and Kalekye. As you can already tell Caroline’s co-hosts Chipukeezy and Linda Nyangweso are not in that equation. So what is next for the youthful duo?

Well, Linda will be taking over the Drive Show from Shaffie and Kalekye. Chipukeezy’s fate is however unclear and that is why we called him up to get the low-down on his next move.

Just like us, Chipoukeezy does not know what is next for him but says that the management will give more directives on the  matter and announce it on the Kiss100 news. Adding that ‘Right now I’m in no position to disclose anything’

Yesterday I spent a sweet evening with a sweet Angel in a not-so-sweet environment: Nairobi Hospital.

Plan was to go there over lunch hour…But then I got held up by stuff. And, therefore, I pushed the date forward to evening.
 And sure enough,I was there by 5:15 pm. Accompanied by the Official Ghafla photographer,the very proficient,Tonny Ndung’u.

Tonny is AFRAID of Hospitals. Like,seriously AFRAID. Its creepy. And downright funny.

As we walked in,trying to waltz our way towards the Accidents and Emergency lobby, Tonny saw an Ambulance in which a man was being stretched out…a little bruised and bloody. Tonny almost collapsed. He stood in his tracks. Unable to move. Or say a  word. I looked at him,puzzled,and wondered why ANYONE would be soo freaked out by the sight of an injured man.

Anyhu,We walked over to the entrance and walked in…straight to the Reception Desk where we found a pair of some clement receptionists.

“Hi,My name is Cabu Gah…I am here to see a Young Woman. Her name is Wangechi Waweru….” I started.

“In which ward is she??” the receptionist asked.

“Ummm General Ward,I guess…” I replied.

“What is the name of the Ward?? You got to know the name of the Ward…” she added.

I had NO idea in which Ward Wangechi was admitted. Or any idea where the Wards were in the first place.

But after a spirited inquiry,We were led to the other block…Where we were met with a huge MAIN ENTRANCE label.

 

We walked in…And straight to the Reception area.

“Hi,My name is Cabu Gah….I am here to see a Young woman named Wangechi…Wangechi Waweru…” I said,flipping through my bag.

After a few minutes, the receptionist said…”St. Andrews…Go to St.Andrews Ward..Go down the block…Take a left turn…Go down…then take Your right turn…go down then take the stairs to the right…Go up to St. Andrews Ward….”

Whoa! How was I expected to process all that information? But by God’s grace,I did.

Tonny and I walked steadfastly down the hallway…fidgeting with our camera. Unsure of whether we would be allowed to snap photos.

Right up to the stairs,We went up and met some other 3 ladies chit-chatting by the entrance.

“Hi…We are here to see Wangechi. Wangechi Waweru..” I said.

“Ok….Go down…Just keep going and turn to Your left…” One of the ladies said.

We went down. Turned into the Ward on our left and from some meters away,I saw a band of 3 beautiful girls swarmed around a bed. I immediately knew it. Wangechi is on THAT bed.

We walked over…cautiously…Not sure how to go about this.

I was apprehensive. Really apprehensive and nervous.

How does Wangechi look? Will she recognize Me? Will I be able to look at her? Will I handle it?

 

But in a flash,I was standing right next to Wangechi’s bed. Tonny was freaking out.  Real bad.

I looked over to Wangechi. And let out a sigh of relief. But before I could say a word,a Young man walked over to me….And asked me to follow Him,saying, “Only 2 people are allowed…Only two people….”

He called us out to the balcony. And we followed him. He was Wangechi’s brother.

At the balcony,I met 4 other ladies. Among who was Wangechi’s mother,Nancy Waweru. A kind,imperial lady who oozed grace and elegance.

“Hi….Ummm,My name is Cabu Gah…Wangechi’s friend and ummm…writer….” I started. “I am from Ghafla…We do Entertainment News…”

Wangechi’s Mom’s face lit up.

“Are You the ONE who wrote Wangechi’s prayer?’ she asked,sitting up.

“Yes,I am…” I replied.

“I LOVED IT. I TOTALLY LOVED IT. God Bless You so much.'” Mrs. Waweru said,profusely.

“Oh,You read it? You actually read it?” I asked,humbled and touched.

“Yes…I read it. It was on Ghafla,right? We read it. That was so nice of You…” she reiterated.

I was moved. Deeply and intensely.

We had a brief chat with Mrs. Waweru before I was allowed to go see Wangechi.

I walked in….carefully.

Right at her bed,I stretched my hand towards Wangechi,and introduced myself…”Hi Wangechi…I am Cabu Gah…I dont know if You remember Me…”

Tewa,the other girl with whom she was in the ICU said, “Ofcourse she does…she was just telling Me about You…”

Wangechi was TALKING! Yeeeeay! And she said she remembered me pretty well. I was relieved.

She stretched her feeble hand towards Me…And on it,I could see hospital marks caused by days of injections and drip fastenings. I shook her hand. And expressed my profuse Get Well soon wishes.

We talked.About stuff….Any kind of stuff….

“How are You doing? How are You feeling now?'” I asked her,leaning closer to her bed.

“Am good…Am good…Am good Cabu Gah…As You can see…God is good…” she said,with a feeble voice but a bold aura.

I held onto her hand…And turned to the girl standing to my left.

It was Tewa. Natalie Tewa…the girl with whom Wangechi was admitted in the ICU. And what shocked me MOST about Tewa is  the fact that she looked so damn Okey. For a girl who had just left the ICU, Tewa looked shockingly terrific.

Her face was in perfect shape…Her bruises had already healed..I couldn’t trace any scar or deformity in her face. She was talking alright and standing upright. She was too sober and too fit! And yet she had been in the ICU just a few day’s ago! How???? I was bummed.

She didn’t look a single inch like a person who had survived a freak Car Accident. And that’s why God is good.

 

I turned to Tewa…And hugged her.

“You are Tewa,right? I noticed You the moment I walked in…” I told her.

“Yeah I am. Natalie Tewa…’ she added,smiling tenderly.

I had a combined talk with both Tewa and Wangechi…Apparently,they both grew up together. since the little age of 5! And have been friends ever since.

Tewa and Wangechi attended the same schools…they went to Makini together…then to Precious Blood together then to Brookhouse together…After which Wangechi went to Strathmore University and Tewa went to London,U.K to study at Leeds University.

“I am like Kanye West….I am Kanye West…” Wangechi told me,smiling faintly.

“Oh You are…WOW! So You will write music about Your hospital experience? Just like Kanye West?” I asked,excited.

“Yes…Yes…I am actually already writing Music!” She announced.

Good for You,Girl! I thought.

“I am like Kanye West…” Wangechi repeated.

For those of You who don’t know,U.S Rapper Kanye West had a death-defying accident in 2004. And ended up in hospital with his face mangled and his jaws totally broken. He proceeded to record classic rap jams right in the hospital. With his jaws still wired shut. The songs were…, Jesus Walks, Through the Wire and All Falls Down.

 

As we spoke,Wangechi’s mother walked in….And we had to wind up the chat.

“So who else has been here to see You?” I asked Wangechi.

‘Oh DJ Mo. And his wife,Size 8…And also DK Kwenye Beat,Hopekid and …ummm….Rabbit and also Ian Mbugua…of Tusker Project Fame…”

Oh Wow!

“I was shocked…I was shocked to see all these Gospel Artistes whom I had never even talked to before…Or met…” Wangechi said,thankfully.

To DJ MO,Your wife Size 8 and the whole System Unit Crew,GOD BLESS YOU SOOO SOOO MUCH!

“Oh and Kaberere’s widow was here too…the wife to the late Kaberere…” Wangechi’s mother added.

 

“So what would You love to tell Your fans Wangechi?” I asked.

“Ummmm I would love to thank them them deeply…deeply and truly…I will be back…Like Kanye West…And this is NOT the end of me. They should also expect great music from Me…And thanks to everyone who recorded a video and wished me a quick recovery. I Love You All…Thankyou for Your prayers…”

“And what has this whole accident-hospital experience taught You?” I asked.

“I have been taught to appreciate life more…Appreciate Friends and Family more. And to live live to the fullest…Any given day. And also much thank to my Mom…who is right here…She has stood with Me all through..And has been in hospital with them all day…Everyday…From Morning to Evening…And to my brother too…God Bless Him!”

Her mother smiled. Standing vigilantly beside the bed.

And to You Tewa?

“Well I would urge the Youth to drive more carefully…And ask the Youth to appreciate their parents more…Especially single mothers…Who invest all their energy in their daughters…”

And to You,Mama Wangechi…What would You say,

“Mine is only to encourage the Young people to always put God first…And always remember there is a God. And to invest heavily in prayers. And also,to do EVERYTHING in moderation. Have fun. Party…But do it in moderation…” She added.

Time to leave had come.

Nairobi Hospital Wouldn’t allow us to take photos. Either of the Hospital. Or the patients. And we obliged.

First it was Ciku Muiruri of the ‘Busted’ fame and now mornings with Caroline Mutoko will be no more. Caroline would be leaving the station but not radio Africa group as she will be assuming a grander role in the media conglomerate.Caroline’s show will now be hosted by Kiss 100’S Drive Show hosts Shaffie and Kalekye.

 One of America’s East Coast finest rapper has announced that he will be jetting into the country mid next month for a concert in Nairobi.

Known for his mega hit Hostile Gospel, Talib Kweli will be rocking Nairobi’s die hard hip/hop fans on October; he has collaborated with some of America’s biggest rappers including Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West among others. Talib will also be expected to perform his latest release Violations featuring Raekwon during his forthcoming concert.

Talib disclosed through his twitter handle that he will be performing at Ebony Lounge, Westlands on October the 23^rd 2014. All hip/hop lovers better prepare your pockets for that concert.

They Dissappeared into thin air after switching off their phones-Grapevine has it has it that they are somewhere at the coast, enjoying the last of Blaqy’s money, poor Blaqy.

Anyway Blaqy has contacted Paul Muite, You know Muite right? The lawyer with some seriously poring eyes and and an even more intimidating air about him, Well Blaqy has requested his lawyer (read Paul Muite) To go to court- Because Risper Faith needs to pay around 20k that he owes Blaqy-

The mammoth that graced Jaguar’s concert in Kimathi University over the weekend is one that any musician aspiring to have a stake in the exclusive movers and shakers club of the country’s music industry would jealously envy. I tell you there is no better way of knowing that Jaguar has firmly cemented his footprint in the country’s wall of superstars other than just analyzing the crowd that turn out for his concerts.

The chanting swarm was yearning for more performance from the one centimeter hit maker after the singer had just rocked them. The performance was so exhilarating and Jaguar too was very thankful for the crowd’s warm reception.

The first time i saw this photo on  her blog “Guilty Conscious” i was filled with a sense of dread, i felt an almost eerie chill course through my spine, Was Tiona an Emotive Hardcore? was she emoting? Was she a screamo? what kind of music was Tiona listening to? was she listening to a sub-genre of darrk rock music? Well, Emo according to the online dictionary is a ‘genre of music combining traditional hardrock with personal and emotional lyrics’ it sounds like rocket-science lingo right? This genre of music is typically associated with depressed teens, it offers them lyrics that they can relate to, overtime, it has adverse effects as the victim gives up on life and contemplates suicide..

I made an excuse to go though her personal blog cum diary, there wasn’t a happy article that the late Tionna ever wrote, all her articles were etched on a state of despondency, they were escape from pain, writing for her had some sort of catharsis, it purged from within her soul, the emptiness and the pain that was her life. Only her could understand her. The blog has been written in the first person point of view (I) its all about her, with random deviations to the reference “You” when she was reffering to someone that had apparently broken her heart-

I decided to do some research on what can be classified as emo/gothic or just plain ‘poserish’ ..

“Emo’s write poetry, unusual you may think from looking at them.  My first impression was , well I cant really pinpoint the exact feelings, enough to put into words, but , Emo’s , they can.  They have a gift of being able to express themselves through their poetry and their music.  They do not hold back, they are able to transfer their inner emotion , however dark , into beautiful poetry“- refer to the kind of poetry that she was writing-

Now, Emos are suicidal, when they get too entangled and engrossed into the Emo thing they turn onto themselves, and commit suicide as a last resort to escape from themselves, there is quite a lot of documentation if you look in the right places of teenagers who have slit their wrists and bled to death, it is known as “self-Mutilation” 

Emo’s keep to themselves, while this may be fallacious considering that the Emo movement in Kenya is not that wide-spread, we cannot totally ignore the last post that Tionna wrote:

“I have never felt so suicidal in my life, A couple of years ago I was because, of the situation with my mum, but now, Its just more convincing… I do love life, and the thought of being happy, but when will that thought or dream become reality? The more problems that come in, the more the thoughts get worse… Maybe hanging myself or cutting both wrists might be the answer to all of this.. The Black Sheep must fall eventually..” – Tionna

Forget his usually smiley face and the jovial mood, comedian-cum-singer Obinna Ike Igwe is one super annoyed man with a newspaper for publishing ‘bedroom’ affairs on their daily.

Why is Obinna so pissed that way really? Well if you thought that only bloggers write about all those crazy stuff socialites do; then wait till Obinna shows you a copy a newspaper he came along to make him so annoyed by its content. He Obinna is wondering why on this earth would sex make the headline of a newspaper. “YES, I SLEPT WITH DAVIDO, SAYS PENDO” that was the headline of a certain newspaper that seems to get on the nerves of Obinna.

Obinna got personal with the newspaper for what he terms as mediocrity of the highest order; he says giving crapish headline like the one he read will encourage other people to engage in such kind of unacceptable behavior so that people could get the publicity and fame many strive to gain. Amani who is believed to be above 30 years seems to draw her inspiration and motivation from American singer Jay Z whom she says has been in the industry for a whooping 28 years!
Here is what she tweeted:
“Jay Z got his first record deal @16 years he is now 44 yrs…that’s 28 yrs in the industry. I am jus getting started.”

So what do we expect from Amani? Already she has done a collabo with Juliani. In an exclusive interview with Ghafla Kenya early this month, Amani was quoted as saying that Kenyan music will always remain the best and it is peole like her who will make it even better.
But why would Amani use Jay Z as an example? Rumour has been going round that age is catching up with the hit maker and that perhaps explains why she has been quiet until the release of the latest collabo with Juliani. 

Amani could be right. The only guarantee that she will quit music is when her voice cords go rough. For now, she is promising even more and more better things to come.
