The family of Regina Kalombe  Mutoko celebrated a life well lived at an emotional funeral in their rural home at Mukaa District,Kiima Kiu Location.

This was after a requiem Mass held on Thursday the 18th of September at 10.a.m at the Holy Family Basilica.

Mid last week, Bonoko announced that he had been dismissed from Ghetto Radio for allegedly being  a street urchin. His words not mine.

A pity-party was then promptly thrown on his timeline but I did not join in. Not because I’m a cold-blooded woman with an ice-box for a heart but because there are two sides to every story. So I called up Liz Njuguna of Ghetto Radio and also a writer for their website. Liz declined to respond and asked me to call up Maji Maji the owner of the station since he was in the best position to respond to that. Before I called up Maji Maji I asked Liz for DJ Bling’s number the man who had been accused of icily firing Bonoko, DJ Bling however did not want to be caught up in the circus and told Liz just that.

I called up Maji Maji but my calls went unreturned so the next top was Ghetto Radio. My colleague Tony and I boarded one of those 6/9 Eastleigh Matatus and we were dropped off at Equity where we were informed that Ghetto Radio was directly opposite it.

We sauntered towards the unappealing brown building which is older than most of Ghafla readers. We made our way up the dingy, badly lit staircase which reeked of ammonia and for a while I questioned whether we were in the right building. About 2-3 floors up, we landed at the station which was a far cry from the putrid, shadowy staircase. It was well lit and decently furnished. You cannot judge a station by its stairway.

The well-mannered watch lady at the door step went in to get someone to respond to us and out came a very curvy lady. We asked her why Bonoko had been fired and she unwaveringly refused to respond saying that she was not on duty when the incident went down. ‘So an incident went down?’ we asked.’ No’ she said emphasizing that she was in no position to respond.

We probed further but to no avail, we realties that we would have better luck flogging a dead horse than getting an answer from her.

So we had to leave more determined than ever to get an answer so we called up Maji Maji. He picked up the phone and when he heard it was Ghafla he said ‘let me call you back’.
As expected, he never called back so we called him up and he picked up after a while but to only cut our calls. He then texted that he was in a meeting so we texted him .Our texts were left unanswered and till today our calls have gone unreciprocated.
This begs so many questions. What really went down that people from Ghetto Radio have chosen to remain so tight-lipped? Was someone punched? Did Bonoko throw a tantrum on his way out? Did he quit after he was denied a chance at hosting his own show? Or was Bonoko double-crossed?Or was it all a publicity stunt?

We had questions and we needed answers and the shifty reaction to our questions only peaked our interest.

I went to Bonoko’s timeline and things seem peachy and Bonoko has since deleted his post of being fired.Hmm…i guess things got better over the weekend.

The celebrated TV personalities are leaving so much room for speculation after NTV’s Larry Madowo posted  a photo of him and KTN’s hot news anchor having some nice moments in a restaurant in what Madowo termed as their SECOND DATE!

A second date indeed! So does that mean there was a first date? Definately yes!

And what is this flurry of dates supposed to mean? Is it just a date? If yes, why not just one but TWO?

It is not once, twice or three times. Many times we have seen celebrities tying knots, right from actors, musicians to TV personalities. And Larry and Edith seem not to like the fact that they are lagging behind in this wave of dating among renowned people in the Kenyan entertainment industry.

Larry has been out of the country for the last two weeks in a trip to Europe and other parts of the world and it seems while out there he really missed Edith and therefore had to organise for a quick date.

Surprisingly it was Edith who paid for it. After all, who said a woman can not do what a man can???

Monday not a good day especially for party going guys because of the hangovers; but this is a good Monday guess because it is the second last Monday of the month of September. The compassionate Larry was really touched by Biko’s article “Visa Denied” and he ultimately decided to act on Biko’s plea by giving him what he was crying out loud for.

How well will you acknowledge the power of the social media other than just looking at how Biko Zulu’s tag on twitter went viral and his plea got the attention from the highest quarter of which Biko could not achieve on a face to face basis? Well Biko’s appeal was answered by the British High Commissioner to Kenya Dr. Christian Turner when he personally twitted the latter; Biko further got a bigger boost When Larry also took him to the UK.

Hold there for a minute, not quite literally; I mean Larry did not actually take Biko to the UK. “I have always wanted to see the River Thames. It’s the only thing I have ever really wanted to see in England. I am not interested in seeing the Old Trafford. Or Soho. Or China Town (what with the thousands of Chinese coming to build our railways, we will anyways soon be sending SMSs in Mandarin). Or the London Eye. I don’t even want to see the Tower of London, which just looks anaemic,” wrote Biko on his article. Now you clearly see how Biko was obsessed with seeing the River Themes in the UK. This is interesting because this is where Larry quickly rushed in to save the situation before it could run out of hand.

Probably we all now know that Larry is on a trip to continental Europe; he has not been in the country for two weeks now. So Larry decided to be innovative enough and sent Biko a magnificent photo of the beautiful River Thames; Larry did not see the need of Biko hustling trying all the means to go to the UK yet the UK High Commission to Kenya had refused to process his visa, so Larry decided to take Biko to the UK through a photo. They say that a single photo speaks a thousand words; Biko Zulu may just be to the UK through the photo Larry sent him.

After Blaqy Stood up for Risper faith for committing thievery on Lisa Downey, Blaqy becomes the latest Victim of Risper’s con-artistry!!-

Risper Faith has regressive tendencies, you know instead of being the socialite of great reknown she is vouched to be, she has developed itchy fingers, sticky fingers, long elongated arms, Probably to fund her spendthrift lifestyle, You know ghafla is the law? I hope you remember the adagio about the long limbs of the law…

You know She was in a ratchet video quite a while back, “moneymaker” A song that she did with Blaqy that blew up the gates of Ratchet-land

When the song was released, The duo decided to get an interview in a bid to market their song

The Interview was scheduled to be on a Friday at Citizen Tv, there was  an agreed upon 50k interview fee that was met by Blaqy, in addition, Blaqy requested that Risper Faith get them outfits to wear to the interview, Risper settled for Sweat pants, hers would be gray, while Blaqy’s would be black, upon the agreement on the choice of outfits, Blaqy sent her 8k, ( the sweat pants were at 4k each).

On Thursday, a day to the interview, Risper sent a Message to cancel the interview. It was however too late, the interview panel would not refund the 50k fee because it was on such short notice and they could not manage to bring another guest to the show.

For cancelling the interview that she had erstwhile agreed on,she brought about a loss of 50k plus the 8k for the outfits they wouldn’t need anymore. 58 Thousand Kenyan shillings! A tidy sum for an up-coming artiste.

Attempt to reach her have been futile.

For starters,We are located at VETERAN HOUSE,Opposite Sonford Restaurant. Sonford is the Oldest fast food joint in town…selling fries since 1950. When Jeevanjee Gardens was still shamba ya maharagwe.

VETERAN HOUSE,Floor Number 8. Yes,the LAST floor. Going up ALL those floors can be taxing. Even if You are using the elevator. Na wakati hakuna stima,You will have to contend with going up sooo many damn floors…By the time You sneak around the 6th floor,You are soo tired You dont even remember where You were even going.

There is a club at the 4th Floor….Playing music so scintillating You wish to quit blogging and be a daytime dancer. Music so enthralling You wonder why Your mother didn’t enroll you in a Club-Management College.

Sawa Sawa,Pretend You are in the Office already. And allow Me to introduce You to all these crazy nutcases who make this CITY GO ROUND.

Firstly,Our office doesn’t have any particular order…..Its a mini-hall of sorts…With a large table at the center…And improvised desks all around the walls….And then a million laptops..powered with a WIFI stronger than a shoe-throwing Migori ODM activist.

There are just 3 ladies here. JUST THREE. Good Lord,Why do bad things happen to good people??? And then a billion men…Noisy Men, cantankerous Men, loud men, opinionated men, smart men, hilarious men, laid-back men and party-loving Men. I am one of them. And I have slipped into my role quite perfectly.

I sit at the corner of the large table at the middle…And I show up 46 Hours LATE. DAILY. Kuishi Ndakaini si mchezo. I have to NOT only deal with crazy traffic everyday while coming to work, but also with wild-animals and implausible Katitu-loving Githurai 45 protesters who block whole swaths of Thika SuperHighway. And turn it into a High school summer camp. DAILY. Phew!

Off to the Introductions…Oh God…

To start us off is the Beautiful, Lovely and exceptionally-gifted Queen of Ghafla Sue Watiri. Sue is 24 Years Old. Perfect age to get married…Sue arrives in the office LATE. ALWAYS. I guess she lives in Kwa-Matheri,on Your way to Ndunduri. Sue can write,Lord, she can. And her sense of fashion?? Unsurpassed. She shows up dressed in stuff I only see at a Milan Fashion Show…the other day she showed up covered in feathers…And a broom on her head! Our version of Lady Gaga. I wont be surprised if she showed up on Monday covered in a Cow’s blood! Love this girl! Sue lives along Thika Road…that includes anywhere. Her favorite hobbies include sleeping and collecting art.Yes,she’s THAT RICH! You cannot collect art if You make 34 shillings per month. Pole sana. Uliza Jay Z. Her favorite singer/s include Sam Smith. And Imagine Dragons…I dont even know who the bondocks is that! Sue’s favorite food is Ugali Madondo. Oops, Ugali Matumbo…Not better either…Haha. And, finally, Sue is SINGLE. As single as Esther Arunga after Mr. Quincy Mwendawazimu goes to jail. To serve a 200-Year sentence. Sue has a MAJOR crush on Kagwe Mungai. And she is a WRITER at Ghafla.

Our second guy is Martin Oduor. Calm,laid-back,industrious and genial are the few adjectives I can use on Marto. Or Oduori. Marto is #teamdarkskin. Sidika’s NUMBER ONE enemy. And he shows up in the office earlier than the early bird. By 6.30am, Marto is in the office. Infact by the time he walks in,the office cockroaches have not even finished making out. He stumbles into the office kwa giza…Puts on the lights and starts punching his keyboard harder than Quincy Timberlake cooking up a story to avoid prison. Marto loves watching Football and Movies. And he lives in Eastlands…Mtaa wa Ngeta. His favorite food is Ugali Samaki,Am I surprised?? NO. Oh,and he also loves traveling..And has a MAJOR crush on Alice Odera,former Citizen TV News Anchor! Man,this guy is tribal mapaka kwa crush buana! Martin is a WRITER at Ghafla. And he is a huuuuge fan of Eminem…Pole sana Onyi Papa Jey,Oduor’s tribalism doesn’t extend to music.

Third Guy is Tonny Ndung’u. Loudest kid in the office. He is sooo loud You can hear him announce his arrival from as far as Ngara. Or Railways. Tonny is fun, spontaneous, dedicated, devoted, crazy and zealous. And he drinks like a tuk-tuk in Lamu. Tonny laughs alot too. Laughs so hard he scares You. Tonny is FUN. Like, seriously FUN. His hobbies include reading novels and listening to Music…Rock Music,to be precise…Like a 16-Year old teenage girl in Kileleshwa. He also says he LOVES Women. Who doesn’t?? Tonny lives along Thika Road. And Policeman Katitu has saved Tonny’s life a thousand times. FREE KATITU! FREE KATITU! Tonny loves Pilau na Kuku. And is SINGLE…No wonder,Haha. Tonny has a MAJOR CRUSH on Victoria Rubadiri…Gai Fafa….and Tonny is a photojournalist at Ghafla. Oh and Tonny EATS ALOT. He is always constantly eating…He has already started chewing up the corners of his laptop…

Fourth guy is Edward Chweya. Eddie just joined Ghafla sixteen minutes ago. Hata hajui choo ziko wapi. But he knows where to buy the cheapest Kuku chipo around. Eddie is a 25-Year Old who loves playing foota. And watching it too. Eddie lives in Kasarani and love Ugali and Chicken! Aiiii,EVERYONE LOVES UGALI here! Aaaaaarggh! Eddie’s fave musician is Marvin Gaye. And Eddie is single. Very single and contented. Mambo ya Mapenzi Ediie apan taka! Eddie is a WRITER at Ghafla.

Fifth guy is Michael Mutuma. Has a deep voice. Deeper than Adan Duale’s troubles. He growls and roars allover the office like an friendzoned Lion. Mutuma is loud too. And opinionated as hell. He has more opinions than Matsanga and Tony Gachoka combined. He talks his mind out so oftenly…His mind is about to fall out. Mutuma is 23 Years Old…And has the attitude of a 45 Year old. Mutuma lives in Komarock. His favorite food is Chicken…Everyone at Ghafla LOVES chicken! Hii ndio shida ya kufungua Ofisi karibu na Sonford. His favorite Musician is Kanye Best,er,West. Mutuma has a MAJOR crush on Julie Gichuru….Whaaaaat!!???! And his fave hobbies include Basketball and cycling…to where??? Mutuma is a WRITER at Ghafla…Handling our sister blog,Duwaa.

Sixth Guy is Joseph Muriithi. But he loves to call himself Moore. Hehe…ati Moore..Moore kitu gani,Moore was a French medieval Catholic saint. And Muriithi means farmer in Tharaka-Nithi. Jivunie utamaduni wako Bratha. Haha. Moore loves listening to music and watching football. But He wont tell us his age…Moore is laid-back, chilled out but can also be very hilarious and show-stopping. Moore lives in Harambee Estate…where Freedom rings true to the skies. Moore loves chicken, CHICKEN AGAIN!!! And Ugali. His favorite Musician is Vybz Kartel…Show Me Your favorite musician and I will tell You what kind of person You are..Haha. Moore is single. But acts like he’s taken. No wonder. Moore is a Videographer at Ghafla. Oh and Moore has a MAJOR CRUSH on Xtatic…the Kenyan rapper who lives in South Africa. And raps for Nigerians and dresses like a Zimbabwean and talks like an American McDonalds employee.

Seventh Guy is Asher Omondi. Asher is THE MOST unflappable, noiseless, demure and harmless human being alive! Cooler than Maji Ya Mtungi in Kongowea Market. But on Whatsaap HE CAN BE REAL LOUD. And clamorous. He wakes up at 4am in the Morning kuwasha stima za Whatsaap. Na kufungua dirisha. Asher loves listening to Music,reading gossip blogs and watching telly. He lives in Pangani. And his favorite food is Ugali, UGALI AGAIN!!!! And fish. Asher’s fave musicians are Chameleone and Diamond. See? I told You…He is so calm he couldn’t even travel further than East Africa to find his true Musical Ninjas. Asher’s profession is an MCK- accredited journalist. And, Yes, Asher is SINGLE! Am I surprised?? Again,NO! Asher is Ghafla’s Social Media Manager.

Last Guy for Part One Is Your Boy CABU GAH. Tha King of Kings…And,ummm,How do I say this humbly,ummm El Presidente of His Super-ferocious Facebook Army! Called CABURIANS. After Himself! Can You imagine that! Just like Justin Beiber with Beleibers, Nicki Minaj with Barbz, Lady Gaga with Little Monsters, He is the ONLY Kenyan,ummm, Celebrity(oops) with a fanbase named after Himself! CABURIANS,Yeeeeeayyy! Ok, Ok…Cabu Gah is LOUD. Like,VERY loud. He is noisy as hell,very opinionated,conversant,witty,creative,goofy,epigrammatic and has the COMMAND of THE QUEEN’S ENGLISH. PLO Lumumba,step aside! Your time,just like Your stint at Integrity House,is UP! Cabu Gah is a blogger by default…And does MANY other super-awesome things on the side. He is Your favorite Writer’s Favorite Writer! He can outwrite-and ouwit-Philip Ochieng and Macharia Gaitho at a snap…And is busy trying to fill the shoes filled by Whispers Wahome Mutahi.  Cabu Gah is a double nominee for the SOMA AWARD MOST INFLUENTIAL FACEBOOK Personality. While some celebrities prefer to bombard us with endless pictures of their blossoming relationship, some prefer to keep their relationship hidden.

Juliani and Brenda Wairimu is the couple which has managed to keep their relationship as secretive as possible. They are like the Jay-Z and Beyonce of Kenya when it comes to the attention their relationship receives and the extents they go to hide it.

Keeping your relationship from the public eye has its advantages but the disadvantage is that you leave so much space for speculation. Just last month, a  certain publication revealed that Brenda had one in the bun and had allegedly gone back to her hometown to keep her growing bump from the glare of the limelight. A story that turned out to be untrue as Brenda resurfaced a week later, her stomach looking flatter than a pancake.

Now the latest gossip in showbiz circles is that the two are getting hitched! But as Cate Mukei of the Nairobian found out these two are not getting married.Juliani laughed of the  accusations before refusing to divulge  more on the issue. Brenda on the other hand refused to spill the beans urging Cate to ‘treat the rumors as the rumors they are ‘

The list of the most watched Kenyan television stations has eventually been released; guess what position your favorite TV station lies?

The top and the bottom positions are the ones that elicit more curiosity from most of the people as folks will definitely want to know which TV station leads and which one trails down there. Citizen TV tops the list with most viewership in the country while KASS TV has the least viewership.

QTV is has amazingly beaten eight other stations to be ranked fourth out of the twelve TV stations that were surveyed. The station is based on a Swahili platform and its success in competing favorably with establish English based station is a likely indication of how local content has come to be loved by Kenyans.

These are words that can be used to describe a new page that is enjoying a meteoric rise in popularity on Facebook. The page Dead Beat Kenya Celebrities Edition is looking to kick Dead Beat Kenya off its pedestal as the spiciest page around.
The page which describes itself as “a group meant to expose the dirty secrets of Kenyan celebrities” also urges people to “Inbox the admin with the dirt on any celebrity with any dirt. You’ll be anonymous”

I went through their timeline, and some of the stories though entertaining were just off, so they should be taken with a grain of salt

After KTN highlighted the plight of a three day old innocent baby in Bungoma who was about to be killed because of being born from a forbidden relationship; the story gained traction with twitter users in Kenya to see it make the cut to be among the trending items today.

The story send the whole country to shock when they heard about the horrific Bukusu culture that advocates for killing of babies who are born out of an incestuous relationships. The baby was reported to have been born out of a relationship between a man and his niece which is a taboo in the Bukusu culture. Kenyans on twitter however have turned out to be a panel of experts giving their interesting opinion about the incident.

First they met in the US when the president was on an official visit there for the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit in Washington DC ; Akon has now paid the president a visit and details of their meeting is now open to the public.

After visiting the president at State House yesterday; the president has now revealed that the Senegalese born American musician was working with his government on a project that is geared towards lighting up the Kibera slum and other parts of rural Kenya. The project is part of Akon’s Lighting Africa project that aims to provide electricity to a million households across the continent by the end of the year.

The president commended Akon for being a role model to African youth and encouraged others to emulate him by investing back in their mother countries; he further welcomed the initiative and promised to give him all the support he needs.
