We may not be North Korea or Somalia but Kenya ranks highly in terms of corruption. Our corruption is so widespread that even the president of Zimbabwe one of Africa’s poorest countries is throwing shade our way.

Earlier this year, Mugabe warned his generals against allowing Zimbabwe become “like Nigeria and Kenya, where you have to reach into your pocket to get anything done.”

And the worst thing about his comments is that we had no comebacks, because it is the cold hard truth.

As reported by Ghafla Kenya’s Cabu Gah through his Cabu Gah Diaries, controversial blogger Robert Alai found himself on the wrong side of the ‘law’ when he shared personal contacts of the country’s top leaders through his social media accounts.

Then, it was not clear whether indeed Alai had been arrested or not.

However, it is now emerging that indeed Alai is behind bars in Muthaiga Police Station after activist Bonface Mwangi shared a message he claims was sent by Alai from the cells.

The message says that Alai was arrested because he criticized what the president was doing in Kibera and not because he shared his personal contacts to the public as it is said.

The blogger has been a strong critic of the Jubilee government, with his no-nonsense criticism landing him in trouble with its supporters and the government itself.

Here is the message as shared by Bonface Mwangi which he says was sent by Alai from Muthaiga Police Station where he is being held:

“A text from @RobertAlai. He is being held at Muthaiga police station. Any lawyers who can help?”

Juacali is considered one of the best artistes we have in the 254, he has managed to surpass time and challenges to maintain a career in music.

Some would say that he is the greatest, but some like Refigah, the head honcho at Grandpa Records, Kenrazy is better than Juacali. “Yes, Juacali is ‘baba yao’ but Kenrazy is better than Juacali.” He says.

The mention of Vera Sidika makes us want to know about what she has done apart from the skin bleach and enlargement of boobs.

The self proclaimed queen of socialites in Kenya is a household name that everybody cannot keep out of their lips.

This time round her name has appeared again on our headlines, not as ‘gossip’ from some bloggers as they are used to say every time Vera is mentioned, but from a renowned TV personality.

Saddique Shaban has mentioned Vera Sidika in his comments by claiming that the socialite must have landed a job with the government from the look of things.

Saddique says that some officials in the government have minds resembling Vera’s skin colour, probably after offering her a job to bleach their mind.

Saddique does not really mean it when he says Vera is working with the government but he is sarcastically taking shots at the jubilee government after what he says is failing to tackle important issues affecting the citizenry.

Ciku Muiruri and Carol Radull have weighed in on the demoralizing news about former Arsenal and French striker, Thierry Henry.

Carol Radull, Kenya’s most vocal Arsenal fan was not shaken by the heartbreaking news about Thierry Henry retirement from football. She comfortable digested the news and even shed more light on it.

Ciku Muiruri on the other hand was anguished by the news. She penned down a letter to the former Arsenal talisman expressing consternation over the saddening news.

“Thierry Henry you have brought a lot of joy, laughter and cheer into my life. I’m happy and grateful that your best years were with Arsenal. You are a King and a Legend. Fair thee well, my brother, fair thee well!!” Ciku wrote.

The proposed security bill has elicited mixed reactions from the public, the media and from almost all spheres. While others see it as controversial and draconian, the government and its proponents have maintained that the bill is meant to ensure security for the country. Among those in the forefront to champion for the passing of the bill into law is Director of Digital Communication in the office of the president, Dennis Itumbi.

Away from that, a row is brewing up between Itumbi and former KTN sports anchor Saddique Shaban after Itumbi took shots at the TV personality on his twitter account.

Itumbi seems to be angered by Sadiqque’s sentiments and opted to respond by wondering if indeed Sadiqque is a journalist as he is known.

Sadiqque is a strong critic of the Jubilee government and it seems some of his criticisms angered Itumbi, prompting him to respond to the journalist.

To Itumbi, Sadiqque seems less of a journalist. This is what Itumbi tweeted:

When photos of Huddah Monroe emerged where she posed infront of a cool Range Rover Vogue, we jumped to the good news of our socialite having landed a high-end car, thanks to her goodies that the Almighty blessed her with.

Little did we take our time to assess the possibilities that Huddah was drawing a prank on us by posing with her boyfriend’s Range Rover for a photo in Uganda.

Well this does not mean that Huddah cannot afford one of her own. In fact she has almost everything it takes to land a fleet of cars, from Range Rovers to jaguars to Porsches to everything the world has ever seen.

But here is the possibility that the range rover we saw is not Huddah’s and that we were too quick to jump to conclusions.

First, Huddah said nothing about the photo. She posted and left us bloggers to say what we want. That was news for us. And indeed we fell prey, said all we could and we are still saying. Huddah could have just taken a photo with a friend’s fuel guzzler just like you can walk down town Nairobi, find a nice car of your choice and decide to take a photo with it. Does that make the car yours?

Second, Huddah did not show us the vehicle’s registration numbers. Why? I can correctly speculate. The ex-big brother flop was reported to be gallivanting in the niceties of South Africa courtesy of one rich Ugandan businessman who changes women at will. In fact he once had a one-night stand with Ugandan diva Juliana Kanyamozi flaunted used condoms and her pants and vanished. So Huddah was a simple catch for the tycoon.

This means that Huddah might have taken a photo with the tycoon’s car and had to conceal the Ugandan registration numbers of the range. There are range rovers in Uganda as well.

Away from this speculation, have you ever imagined what a socialite undergoes before getting those range rover keys? Before getting those keys to that beautifully put up house?

I tend to believe, as a man, that it takes more than what our minds think. It is not just about shaking those assets, cuddling that man or just giving in to the sexual pleasures of those thirsty blokes.

Men tend to become weak when in the world of women. But not that loose to lose a range rover to a random chic. I don’t want to over think but I guess it is more hectic than we see it.

Until we get that very exclusive confession from an experienced socialite, probably Vera Sidika or Huddah Monroe, we choose to remain in the dark and linger in our naivety till then.

Daniel Weke plays a charming adorable actor named Arthur from NTV’s hit show Mali. News reaching us is that the actor has been met with a tragedy.

The actor and his family have lost a relative of theirs under very unclear circumstances. His uncle, a 24 year old man was admitted over the weekend at Kenyatta national hospital for a dialysis procedure but was found dead by the roadside a few days later.

The deceased could not walk, let  alone move so him walking about a Kilometer from the hospital to without anyone noticing anything odd, was strange. The doctors claim that the man disappeared from the hospital, but how does a sick man who cannot walk disappear without members of the staff or even the guards noticing?

What makes the situation even stranger was because he was found naked at Capital Hill with dirt on his back,  a blanket covering  his torso and his legs burnt with insertions on his legs.

The family is now looking for answers to the mysterious death of their relative and has reported the matter to the Capital Hill police station.

The Corporate Affairs and Communications Department in charge of giving answers in such cases could not be reached for comments as all the senior people were said to be in a meeting.

I used to have a crush on Corazon 1 year ago, one year is longtime and so much changes in a year, say like my crush  has waned, I have moved on after she posted statuses tagging along her bae- needless to say that I was heartbroken for days. Missing in that Vacation was her man, who for days has been showered with love from Corazon herself. The socialite would post on her social media accounts that she had sponsored her trip to Spain because she had always wanted to see FC Barcelona. A dream that for her had come true.

After 9 months of waiting, KTN’s  ‘Africa Speaks’ anchor Joy Doreen Biiria welcomed her first child.

The bundle of joy was a bouncing baby boy Ty who bears a striking resemblance to the mother.
Unlike previous reports that her baby daddy had skipped town, Newton (the father’s child) was right by her side during the delivery.

I am not a Socialite Tonny! Socialite is bad, It is like a disease, like a rotting half eaten badly prepared apple pie…Well what is in a name sister? Tonny, the kenyan populace has painted socialites in bad light, especially the media, the moment you mention socialite, they look behind you, to confirm if you have the butt and the boobs to go along with the name socialite. 

This talk sparked  what would be an argument between me and Shicko, she told me that she was a different make of socialite, she did not for example posses a colossal ass and matching set of “twins” , she has a baby-ish aura about  her, she is a bubbly little pretty girl who should be hosting a nice little out of the place kindergarten party, not hosting Vogue Wednesday at a club when she should be sleeping or reading a copy of “vanishing potatoes” 

But there is a catch, Shicko Matheri is not your average pretty face, she is a package, The lingerie model has what it takes to be the next “Socialite” She is not a newcomer to the television screens, she was the host of popular kid program on Citizen Tv when she was 11. At 20 she is a make up artist par excellence,a lingerie model, a party host and a burgeoning actress. 

She is however several tads of categorical with the use of the word “socialite” She says that she is not a hoe, or a jembe or any other conceivable farm tool which is used by frivolous men for money. For her, A socialite is a graceful woman who headlines parties and positively inspires people, A socialite is not a hoe, A socialite is not a symbol of perverse sensibilities. I am a different breed of Socialite, I walk out the house every morning to get an honest living, then get my socialite cloak later in night  to grace parties. I get paid to work.

KTN’s weekly crime TV series, Case Files, has shed light on the mysterious death of former Olympic champion, Samuel Wanjiru, on their last episode.

After watching Case Files, two possible theories could be derived from the death of Samuel Wanjiru; he either committed suicide or he was killed by his other “unknown” people. The police didn’t immediately establish the root cause of Wanjiru’s puzzling demise.

Dennis Onsarigo, Case Files host, talked to the wife of the late Samuel Wanjiru; she gave her own account of the events as they unfolded the night Wanjiru died. Teresia Njeri (Wanjiru’s wife) revealed how she walked in at their Nyahururu house only to find Wanjiru with another lady on their matrimonial bed.

The lady confronted her claiming to be Wanjiru’s second wife; Teresia opted to leave the house. She locked the door as she left. Moments later though, she heard the night guard screaming, she rushed back to check out what was happening only to find Wanjiru lying down near a manhole with head injuries and broken limbs. Wanjiru was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.

Stephen Kamau’s (the night guard) account of the incident however tells another story, he revealed Njeri arrived at the compound at night and went upstairs to the bedroom. He heard quarrelling a moment later then saw Njeri rushing out. Wanjiru then appeared on the balcony begging Njeri to open the door; he ordered him to fetch the keys from the restroom and it was there that the he heard a loud bang.

He rushed out to only to find Wanjiru lying near the manhole with his head facing the gate, he was bleeding from the mouth and the nose and he was unable to stand on his own. Njeri was nowhere to be found by that time.

With many baffling accounts of what happened that night, Wanjiru’s death still remains a mystery. Check out Case Files’ Video here:

Whether you have rented a house in Eastlands or Nairobi’s suburbs there are times you have probably wished you could do an RKO on your landlord or punch them in the throat. My good and immensely successful associate Omondi hates landlords too. He prefers to either sleep in his office at Ngong road or inside his Range Rover Evoque, which he refers to as his Range Rover ‘House’. You might wonder why? Well Omondi ‘amejipanga’ He is from the US and he has built a glittering mansion there. By US I mean United Siaya.

We all know that landlords are always friendly when you first move into your rented home but as time goes by, they make it clear that the only reason they allow you to caress your ‘beby’ in their property is because they need your money.

Here are the 5 most annoying types of landlords

The ever-present landlord

In most cases, he’s the one with a thousand and forty five rules too. Don’t do this….don’t do that…why are you doing this? This is the landlord that figured he doesn’t have to work anymore since he has a way of putting money in his pocket. All he does is sit around waiting for the month to end so that he collects rent. This is likely the guy that inherited the rental houses from his parents and doesn’t understand the struggle at all.

From time to time, you’ll see him taking laps around the plot, inspecting things, staring at tenants with weird eyes, ogling at women or just basking in the sun. His presence is disgusting since as a tenant, you feel like a high school kid who’s being monitored all the time. With this kind of landlord, minor misunderstandings eventually lead to a tenant being banished from the residential plot.

The rent reviewer

This is the greediest landlord you’ll get. He loves raising the rent but when it comes to returning deposit cash to tenants who are moving away, he plays ‘catch me if you can’. He uses the most irrelevant of excuses to revise the rent upwards. He also monitors your progress as a tenant. Whenever he sees that you are getting successful or making progress in life, he pulls a KRA on you.

When you least expect it, you get hit by statements like, “Unajua hii nyumba yako ni kubwa. Pale umoja nyumba kama hii yako ni 10,000 lakini mimi ntaongeza tu 1000. Sitaki kukufinya sana.”. I once had a friend who wouldn’t park his car where he lived because he didn’t want his landlord to know how loaded he was. Eventually he got tired of pretending and moved out.

The MIA Landlord

In most cases, the MIA Landlord is probably a good guy. You see him once in three months. He’s friendly and successful. The problem is that this kind of landlord prefers leaving all the responsibilities to a very annoying agent or caretaker. Since the cat is mostly away, this mouse (caretaker) plays like he owns the field. The agent is quick at giving orders and harrassing tenants.

The one that can’t mind his business

Even if you live in a gated community, this kind of landlord is always a nuisance. He asks too many questions, questions visitors and is interested in matters that don’t concern him. At times, you wonder how the neighbors knew about your personal issues, only to find out that this ‘friendly’ landlord is a community broadcaster. When you aren’t expecting any visitors, you’ll hear a knock on the door. The guy will then welcome himself in, survey your house for a few minutes then leave. At times you’ll hear statements like, “Naona leo mnapika chapati….eeh. Mchunge moshi ya jiko isiharibu ukuta.” Then he adds, “Na msisihahu rent next week.”

The irresponsible landlord

He thinks his tenants are chicken. He probably hasn’t hired someone to sweep the compound or cut the grass. The environment is less appealing but he doesn’t care. Complaints take weeks to be addressed but he’s quick to complain whenever a tenant does something wrong. Security is not so good and most of the services are below admirable standards. He’s the reason you are thinking of getting another place right now. All the best

There are those who feel that there is nothing wrong with getting a Range Rover from your rich SINGLE boyfriend while others feel that she is a bad role model prostituting herself and sending the message out that it’s okay for women to peddle their bodies for money.The shocking thing about all this is that men have joined the hating bandwagon spewing thinly-veiled or blatant insults. Like Really? I thought the haterade was reserved for women?!

I am of the opinion that, she is not causing harm to anyone, and don’t bring out the ‘setting a bad example to young people’ card. I believe that we are the ones responsible for showing our younger ones what is right and what is wrong. For example if my child is belting out Anaconda at school together with the ‘f**k em skinny bitches line’, people will not go like “That Nicki Minaj is a bad example to the children”, they will be like “Sue is a horrible parent, she does not discipline her child”

Girls twerking and video vixens will always be around, whether it’s Huddah Monroe or Vera Sidika. Girls will strip naked, if it’s not Kim K breaking the internet it’s somebody else.
They will be on social media and our TV’s; it is up to us as parents to show our kids what we think is the right or wrong way. Because we cannot stop the so called ‘bad role models ’from cropping up, but we can teach our children to make better choices.

Secondly, her said boyfriend is not married, he is single. There is no home being wrecked. What is wrong with a rich UNMARRIED man gifting Huddah with a car? Ladies let’s not even trip, if your boyfriend/ lover offered you a car, you would take it. Don’t lie honey, you know you would. No one hates gifts…especially if they come on four wheels.
So yes, ladies and gents get of Huddah’s back. Even if you do not approve of what she does, she is not your child to worry about, worry about your own child! Be a role model to your own child so that she can never look up to those people you do not approve off. Teach them to make better choices, chose better role models instead of wasting time on social worrying about how someone else is being a bad role model or using her nether regions. Worry about yourself and your children.

This is not the first time that Kenya Airways has found itself on the receiving end. The biggest airline in Africa that boasts as being the “pride of Africa” is paradoxically the proverbial adage “preach water but take wine” 

Well Majority of Kenyans from across the divide have been infuriated at what they have termed as wrong representation of the African people when the Kenya Airways used a white model to sell the idea that they deliver cargo all over the world. 

Does it mean that white babe on the billboard is the representation of what is aesthetically African? In a bid to attract the western market to use its Cargo delivery services, Kenya Airways has betrayed its maxim “The Pride of Africa”

This in exalted circles might also be considered as a veiled form of racism with hints of imperialism laced all over, if the western markets start dictating what “The Pride Of Africa” should be, then the rain has started beating us.

Proudly Kenyan… Indeed

They can however argue that the billboard was a representation of their ability to move across the borders of Africa “delivering cargo” If this is so then, why not use a black model too? To show the transition?

Or maybe our definition of what is Proudly African is skewed, Maybe Kenya Airways should teach us this new-found wisdom. The wisdom that says representing African people with a White model is actually cool. Should we, for the fear of being branded as “racist” take  it passively, and accept misrepresentation of African Heritage subserviently? 

Lupita Nyong’o is one of Kenya’s most talented and renowned celebrities who has made international headlines after her exploits in the acting industry. She, as a result, won an Oscar after her glittering role in the film 12 Years A Slave.

The talented actress is again on a way to starring in another African film that is underway and that will be produced any time from today.

Nyongo will be producing and starring in the adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel, which follows a couple, Ifemelu and Obinze, as they face different paths upon leaving their homeland of Nigeria. The book won the National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction in 2003 in Nigeria.

Lupita will be starring alongside David Oyelowo who is currently winning acclaim for his performance as Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma.

The new movie will be called Americanah.

Plan B, Brad Pitt’s company, which produced Nyong’o’s 12 Years a Slave is also producing.
