Everyday clothing lines are started by celebrities ranging from Huddah by Vazzi to Tergat by Octopizzo and as someone who has observed this industry, this is a bad idea. It’s too cliché, everyone is doing it; it’s much like shopping at Eastleigh. You will be just like everyone less.

 This is because many Kenyans do not have the ‘I would slit my wrists for you ’ kind of attachment to their celebrities. They are not really willing to invest in you just because you twerked on Instagram or have a few hit songs. The celebrity worship is a phenomenon that is yet to catch up, heck 90% of Kenyans will not even say ‘hi’ to you on the streets just because you are a celebrity.

People in the U.S.A will buy Yeezys for an insane amount of money but a T-shirt by a Kenyan musician, you will not see Kenyans falling over each other to get a piece.

Also we all know Kenyans love freebies, they will wear your brand…if it’s for free. Just look around, how many people do you see wearing a Kenyan brand. Very few, and if you are selling a crop top for 2000 shillings very few people will buy.
I think the reasons that Kenyan celebs embark on this kind of endeavor is due poor market research, I would advise many of you to consult investors who can show you the best place to put your money.

Do not concentrate too much on clothing lines; there are better investments for your money. I am of the opinion that you should save your money from a dead investment like branded T-shirts and opt for investments in land, real estate or even alcohol brands. Kenyans do love their booze.

Also hone the skills that made you famous to a superstar level or become diverse, try acting if you are a singer, acting if you are a twerker or hosting if you are an actor. That way you will build your status to an international level, become an uber-celeb .People will worship you and be willing to buy your clothes. You will not need to heavily market your products. People will be willing to invest their money on you. Take for Example Rihanna who is so good at what she does that her Lipstick line flies off the shelves. She dropped her new lipstick for MAC (in 2013) called  ‘RiRi Woo’ and three hours later, the red lipstick was sold out.She doesn’t need adverts for that purpose.

 

 

M-Net’s East Africa focused entertainment channel Maisha Magic has once again unveiled a new reality TV talent show that will premiere on the channel on February 9th this year. This comes after a successful debut of a dating reality TV show, Tujuane Plus in December last year.

While making the announcement, M-Net East Africa Regional Director Mr. Michael Ndetei disclosed that Maisha Superstar is a reality TV talent series that is designed to take 6 outstanding young musical acts on a dream journey to uncover the ultimate superstar. ‘This show is more than just a musical contest. It is a talent search that explores and uncovers the real untapped talent in the youth within the East African region’, Mr. Ndetei explained.

The search for the superstars in East Africa commenced with 6 specially selected music celebrity coaches scouting the entire region to identify emerging music artists from each region. The rookies will in turn be mentored by a group of specialists in the industry who include music composers, producers, directors and image consultants.

The judging panel in the talent show will comprise the music industry’s most influential stakeholders, Digital Publishers, Independent Labels as well as fans whose favour the star rookies will win over in order to emerge the ultimate winner. Unlike other talent search contests that have been held in the past, Maisha Superstar will feature the six contestants selected by the celebrity mentors from start of show till end of series where five will be eliminated to pick the winner.

Artists who will be participating in the show as mentors include Nameless and Rabbit from Kenya,

Maurice Kirya and Jose Chameleone from Uganda and AY and Shaa from Tanzania with Erick Wainaina from Kenya taking charge as the music director.

Lwam Getachew, Fidel Odinga wife, was irreconcilable for a moment as she was paying tribute to her departed husband.

A requiem mass held for Fidel Odinga at All Saints Cathedral Nairobi was filled with emotions as everyone who stood at the podium to eulogize the deceased gave an inspirational account of the late Fidel Odinga.

Friends, family, relatives and other Kenyans from different walks of life congregated at All Saint Cathedral to attend the requiem mass for Fidel which is the last one in Nairobi before Fidel body is flown to Kisumu and subsequently to Bondo for burial.

Fidel’s widow, Lwam Getachew, broke down in tears as she took to the podium to pay tribute to her late husband. Meanwhile, her little son was jovial jumping up and down oblivious of what was transpiring; too bad the innocent child doesn’t understand a thing.

Fidel will be laid to rest at on Saturday at his grandparent’s farm in Bondo. May the good Lord rest his soul in eternal peace.

Sonko spent the better part of yesterday enrolling his son at school. The Nairobi senator was very excited saying it was a very special day for his family.

Sonko’s son, baby Satrine Osinya, joined school for the first time ever. Baby Osinya survived a terror attack when armed militias sprayed bullets on faithful during a church service in Mombasa.

The bullet that killed Osinya’s mom stuck in baby Osinya’s head and it was Sonko who aided the baby get an operation that removed the bullet. Ever since, Sonko has been more of a father to baby Osinya than just a benefactor.

He was not a Public Officer himself neither are his parents. Of course the country is mourning him, we all are…so this is not a chance for governors to display their sycophancy using our money. These are the kind of things that anger the public and which should be stopped and condemned. When Machakos Governor spent Sh1 million on Mutula Kilonzo’s funeral we all condemned him. Yet Mutula was a Senator. Let the same condemnation apply here. Teachers are on strike because there is no money to pay them. The youth have no capital to start small businesses. The public is taxed by county governments even for keeping chicken. Then the money used for mourning a private millionaire businessman whose family is buying acres of space in newspapers to place his obituaries.. Sickness…”

He would continue and point out that Governor Mutua had faced backlash after he allegedly spent counties money on the funeral of Mutula Kilonzo .. Then why not these Governors?

 

Yesterday a Friend of mine that we love to call “Hp” or Holy paul or any other variation of the initials “HP”- Called me and told me to get on whatsapp as he had some sensitive information to share with me- Initially, I thought he wanted to lecture me on abstract art or probably send me a pic of his latest painting. 

Eager to find out what he had been cooking up, I logged onto whatsapp with the usual annoying tirade of horrible group messages nearly giving me a bad fright, i scrolled down to his name and found out that he had sent me the phone number of the president ‘s daughter, Ngina Kenyatta! 

Alas! I was beside myself with excitement, here was that chance in a life time to confess my undying love to the elegant Ngina Kenyatta, I didn’t know where to start but in that moment of excitement, I lost it, A variation of an old classic tale of grass to grace leapt to my head- probably this would be my one chance in life to live a reverse Cinderella Fairy tale, maybe I would convince her to buy me a racy glass slipper or a nice pair of Jordans.. but first I had to talk to her. 

So I clicked onto the contact to save it before texting her.. “xaxa Ngina?” “mamboz” “Nimekumixx” and stuff like that. 

That is when I got the most  heartbreaking image of my life! 

The message ran “Wacha ufala! Hii sio ligi yako”- Don’t be silly, she is way above your league. 

I have heard that the prank has been doing rounds online especially on whatsapp  and many a people have fallen prey to the prank.

Veronica Wanjiru Ng’ang’a is the Ex wife of the late Fidel Odinga, the two got married  in 2007 before divorcing soon after, citing what they termed as  “irreconcilable differences”  There were un-confirmed allegations that cited infidelity around then. Since her divorce, several years ago she has literally kept a low profile and disappeared from the lime-light. 

Yesterday however, She made an an appearance at Lee Funeral home where viewing of   the body of the fallen Fidel was happening. She came last and made her way slowly to the parlor where she paid her last respects to the man she had spent part of her life with. 

She however declined any interviews and photos and chose to leave as quietly as she had come accompanied by an un-known man.

Since Fidel Odinga’s untimely passing on Sunday pathologists have embarked on an uphill task of finding out what ended his life. So far they have not come up with any information about what could have caused his death.

Their failure to find out what led to a lot of Kenyans speculating about what could have killed him, and the reasons are many each more ridiculous than the last.

The latest claims are that Paul Kobia, a controversial businessman killed him.

This is according to Robert Alai who says that Paul Kobia talk big about offing Fidel. He was allegedly heard bragging to some clients and owner of Buffet Park that he had killed Odinga’s son.

Now according to Alai, Kobia has been arrested and taken to Gigiri Police Station:

Instagram has been a hot topic this past weeks. And No,not because the Facebook-owned photo-sharing site was launched Yesterday. No. It’s been around for close to 5 Years now. Instagram has been trending after popular male-bashing Subaru-demeaning blogger Njoki Wa Chege decided to attack the Men who spend days on it.

I wasn’t on Instagram until I read Njoki Chege’s virulent article. And then I thought,wait,why not try this Instagram thing? And try,I did.

I joined Instagram on the 1st of January 2015. But that will not be the first time I had joined Instagram. I had tried joining an Year ago before I lost interest…Or,let me put it this way,before Instagram lost interest in Me. Boring Me.

Instagram is basically the Twitter of the affluent. The site where the rich and famous and gorgeous and glamorous post photos of their hedonistic,licentious lifestyles.

It us the site where You encounter people who actually know HOW to travel,HOW to live,HOW to enjoy life,HOW to live it up,HOW to party and HOW to ball.

It’s the site where photos of the best cuisines and best champagnes and best parties and best rides are posted. Edited and airbrushed,to blow away the millions…or thousands or hundreds of followers and individual boasts.

Instagram belongs to the OWNERS of money. It belongs to people with real bank accounts,people with real lifestyles and people with real money to burn. Not for every scrawny boy out there splashing 800 shillings at some Roadside eatery in Ruai.

Instagram is the high school of social media…Where constituents compete with each other on who has the best photos,who is partying in the most opulent joints,who is holidaying in the grandest resorts and who has the most gorgeous girls.

Its a highly-competitive jungle…Where every one is attempting to outdo the other as far as attention-grabbing,statement-making photos is concerned.

After I joined the site,I thought that all I needed to do was simply post photos of myself in the shower and BOOM! The magic happens. I was wrong. Dead wrong.

The magic did NOT happen. Not so soon. And even though I tried editing my photos as much as I could,tried brightening them,sharpening them,adding a little more shade,a little more color, a little more tricks,airbrushing them and beautifying them,it still couldn’t work!

I mean,I couldn’t compete with what I saw people posting. My bland bedroom photos would NEVER compete with the Hawaii beach photos I saw across the site. My grainy 5Megapixel selfies were nothing compared to the super-gorgeous limousine photos I saw from the site. I even tried uploading photos of myself munching a pizza at TRM. And still,they were nothing compared to the photos of opulent kids drowning bottles of Dom Perignon Rose 2002 champagnes.

And then I learnt something more heartbreaking… Apparently,There is a club on Instagram called THE RICH KIDS OF INSTAGRAM.

Just like the American TV show stars,the Rich Kids Of Beverly Hills,The Rich Kids Of Instagram are basically a bunch of spoilt,advantaged kids from affluent backgrounds whose millionaire parents control economies across the World.

These kids could be as Young as 14. And as old as 27.

They are fabulous. Very fabulous. And to try and show the world who they really are,these kids have formed a club aptly called The Rich Kids Of Instagram. Instagram is their playground. And day after day,they shock the World with the most grandiose,most magniloquent and most flamboyant photos You have ever seen.

Everyday,they leave their thousands of followers in awe of their very-enviable lifestyles. And bamboozle them with inside details of just how fun it must be to be them.

I decided to follow these Rich Kids Of Instagram (RKOI) and after 3 full days of watching them and their activities, I decided to quit the photo-sharing site.

It dawned on me that I was NEVER meant for the site. Never! There is no way I could be attempting to compete for attention with the RKOI with the kind of grainy,yawnsome photos I was posting.

There is no way I could stay alive and afloat in these streets surrounded by kids whose photos would put The Saudi King to shame.

I was embarrassed and ashamed and disappointed and mad at myself.

I hated the photos I was attempting to post compared to what these kids were really posting. Nothing I could post would top that. No matter how much I edited the,No matter what I ate or who I was with,still mine was absolute crap when the Real Kings Of Instagram came for Me. I felt sorry to myself.

Instagram was NOT the site I wanted to be on. 13 LIKES is not what God made me for. 6 comments is not what the Lord meant when he said He would bless Me.

My little escapades in Nanyuki were nothing compared to the ACTUAL holidays and sexcapades The Real Owners of Instagram were posting across the timelines. My little dramas in Maasai Mara were a sick joke compared to the real photos of real holidays in phuket,Thailand.

The Rich Kids Of Instagram have pushed me off Instagram.Their money,affluence,exuberance,megabucks,flamboyance,flashiness and panache have put me to shame. And I dare NOT embarrass myself further.

I refuse to embarrass my poor self with obscure photos of myself splashing Ksh.1,850 at a Ruiru Resort. I refuse to put myself to shame uploading photos of my 900 shillings per night hotel in Sagana. I ain’t yet cut for Instagram. Until I start spending real nights in real hotels like the Maharajah’s Pavilion at the Raj Palace,India,Until I start taking Belle Epoque Rosé 2004 champagnes or until I start hanging out with girls as gorgeous as Lauren Katherine Conrad,I aint parading my pathetic life on Instagram.

I leave it for the Rich Kids. And actual Celebrities…..These photos are the reason why. View them and kill Yourself later. Thankyou very much.

After receiving severe backlash on social media, Standard Group apologized for a careless mistake in it’s coverage of the impact of Fidel Odinga on the Odinga Family.

Standard Newspaper ran a great story but used rapper Octopizzo’s photo for the story instead of Fidel’s, the deceased . This move was viewed by a lot of people as careless and insensitive.

KTN made an attempt at damage control by issuing this apology via their KTN  Page on Twitter:

 

Fidel Odinga passed away in very unclear circumstances on Sunday and the mystery surrounding his demise is yet to be unraveled after pathologists who conducted a post-mortem on his remains failed to establish the exact cause of the opposition leader, Raila Odinga’s son’s death.

Even before Fidel is laid to rest, allegations and accusations are already rife in the air as opposing parties trade them at will.

The latest accusations have been made by a blog believed to be owned by blogger Robert Alai who has accused one Paul Kobia of being heard bragging how he killed Fidel Odinga.

The blog alleges that Paul Kobia, who at some time was accosted by Raila’s security men when he tried reaching to the former premier, was heard bragging in some restaurant that he organized the killing of Fidel Odinga.

The blog further alleges that Kobia enjoys State security and therefore nothing is likely to be done to him even as he goes around bragging how he killed Fidel.

However, as we write this article, we understand that Paul Kobia, the man who threatened to kill Raila in September last year, has been arrested over the allegations.

 “Paul Kobia was early this week heard bragging to some patrons and the owner of Buffet Park, Mr Muya that he killed Hon Raila Odinga’s son, Fidel Odinga. In one of the most stupid showmanship, the thug and runaway killer who has connections right inside State House confessed to the patrons that he killed Fidel because he organised his assault. The confessions were heard by friends of Fidel who have revealed this to security officers. Kobia made the confession on Monday night at Buffet park. The security officers have refused to act because Paul Kobia enjoys State House protection. He moves around in a convoy of cars including police chase cars. Paul Kobia is also always armed with weapons including shotguns and pistols. It is not clear why Paul Kobia enjoys such kind of state protection. He is known to be a friend of Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko who has constantly refuted this saying that he is not a friend of Kobia. Friends of Raila are now demanding that Kobia be arrested.”- Kahawa Tungu

These latest developments are likely to turn things around.

Meanwhile, Fidel will be laid to rest on Saturday at his father’s home in Bondo.

 

A controversial Kimbo advert left many tongues wagging early this week when it first made its way into the limelight. The advert was the talk in town after it featured two gentlemen passionately laughing out as they placed hands on each other’s shoulder after what seems is a nice moment together, probably in a dining room as they loosened their ties.

Well, thanks to the society we live in and the culture that has for so long defined us, there were mixed reactions from the users and viewers of the avert as some felt Bidco had stooped too low with the advert.

Well, what they don’t want to say but can clearly be read on their faces is that they felt Kimbo was in a way promoting homosexuality, a controversial topic that has left many Kenyans divided ideologically.
