I think we should all have a moment for silence for Victoria Kimani; she is the one artiste who seems to have grown, nay flourished into Africa’s pop diva.

I believe in giving credit when it’s due and just as I would dish out criticism, compliments must also be given and Victoria Kimani is doing good.

From releasing Prokoto and currently riding on the wave of “Show” Victoria drops yet another hot jam  ‘Vex’ produced by Kenyan Grammy award  winning Producer DO Speaks.

Lulu Hassan and Kanze have arguably the best on-air chemistry on Kenyan Television.

But as it turns out their chemistry does not stop on our TV screens, it gets deeper and the two are good friends off screen.

But back on the phone; have you ever asked yourself why it’s rectangular and not oval or round like an orange? Exactly…..

Design forms an intricate part of our lives and it’s about time someone got rewarded for all the great work they have put in all in an aim to make our lives easier. But then again wait….Airtel is already on that. In collaboration with UP Magazine, they have come together to launch a first of its kind ceremony that looks at awarding key change makers in Kenya who use solution based thinking to overcome challenges, offer relevant solutions and improve people’s lives.

Dubbed Design Thinking (DXD- Disruption by Design) awards, they aim at causing a disruption, a disruption bigger than Corazon strutting down Moi Avenue by rewarding innovative elements in Kenyan society.

So are you out there and you’re considering yourself smart enough? Do you consider yourself a designer? Then enroll yourself in the various categories that range from architecture, communication, fashion, interactive design and green design and get that much awaited recognition from the whole world.

All individual candidates must be over 18 and citizens or long term residents of Kenya. Corporations on the other hand must have their headquarters in Kenya. There is a small catch though as all honorees will be selected from a body of realized work. Now tell me whether anything this interesting has happened in Kenya since Ghafla officially launched socialites?

Okay maybe just Airtel Trace Stars and this is because Airtel believes in sparkling human centered and sustainable design led options for more people to access and implement. And you can be lest assured that this is not a competition with any underhand deals. Fairness will definitely ensue as the candidates will be proposed by an official nominating committee where they’ll be later invited to submit materials for a jury’s review. The public will also be involved in the vetting process.

The official launch will go down on the 19^th of Feb where all this information will be dispensed to the general public and the interested parties will be directed where to make their submissions. They will eventually be vetted and the ultimate winner will be announced on the Gala night in November.

 

Three men were sentenced to death while one woman escaped death due to lack of evidence linking her to the murder of an MP.

The three were sentenced for the January 2008 assassination of former Embakasi MP Melitus Mugabe Were. Melitus who was dubbed a peacemaker met  his untimely death after he was dragged out of his car and shot as he prepared to go into his compund.

He was said to be more reasonable when compared to other leaders during the height of post-election violence and offered the voice of reason to his followers, discouraging violence.

His family can now rest easy knowing that justice has been served after a judge sentenced James Omondi, Wycliffe Simiyu and Paul Otieno to death for the murder of Melitus.

This is a landmark ruling since although the death penalty is constitutional, no executions have been reported.

The Nairobi Aviation Saga that caused mayhem in Nairobi after Dennis Okari’s Certificates of Doom expose caught many talking.

But even when we thought the dust on the matter had finally settled down, NTV’s Larry Madowo has resurfaced with an article in his Daily Nation column, defending college dropouts and the Nairobi Aviation students who fear that they my never be employed after Okari’s expose.

Madowo has bashed those rushing to get certificates thinking that they will land them lucrative jobs.

He has also bashed employers who dismiss people because they lack academic credentials without giving them a chance to express their ability to work competently.

This has prompted Larry to reveal how he dropped out of Daystar University in 2008.

However, Larry is grateful that despite dropping out of school, someone believed in him and offered him a job.

The celebrated TV personality is disturbed that competent persons without certificates are overlooked for incompetent ones with certificates.

“Incidentally, I was that drop-out Daystar student in 2008 I started with, and I’m here today because somebody took a chance on me,” Larry quipped in his article.

Kenya’s self proclaimed ‘adult actress’ (I use that term lightly) Florence Wambui had Kenyans talking after she shared x-rated photos of her engaging in various sexual acts, some more lewd than others.

There is a video that has been making rounds on social media placing question marks on the long-running claim that the police tear gassed children from Lang’ata Primary .

A story that gained ugly international media attention, outcry from human rights activists and had Kenyans severely chastised the Kenya police for what they term as an inhuman act.

But as Buddha once said “Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.” And the truth has finally come out, actually it’s been there for a while but I think we were all puffed-up with anger that we couldn’t see the fine print .And the truth is that the police were not the only guilty party as demonstrated in a Capital F.M video where the police hurl a canister close to the children but a man clad in grey, throws it directly at the students.

The blame has now shifted from the Police and now Boniface Mwangi and his cohorts have been implicated, but Mohammed Ali reckons that the sudden attention on Boniface Mwangi is just a way of distracting us from an important issue ‘Who Killed Muchai? ’

A new music reality TV format hit East African screens yesterday. Maisha Magic’s ‘Maisha Superstar’ was officially launched on DStv channel 161.

Maisha Superstar is a show running for 13 weeks which features six celebrity coaches from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania who use their contacts and knowledge to search their countries for emerging music acts.

The logic behind the show is to make a rookie into a big big-selling music star. The celebrity mentors will be coaching their respective rookie who will be competing for the title of Maisha Superstar plus a chance of winning cash prize and a recording contract.

Maisha Superstar will also engage the audience back at home who will be given a chance to support and help their favourite rookie succeed on the show.

Taking up the challenge as mentors are; Maurice Kirya, Nameless, AY, Rabbit, Jose Chameleone and Shaa. Legend Eric Wainaina has been named the series music director and the ever charming Amina Abdi is series presenter.

Today Kenyans woke up to fresh allegations and accusations that Bonface Mwangi and his fellow activists were involved in tear-gassing the Langata Primary School kids, only to implicate the police.

And as the video goes viral, the activist has refuted claims that he and his fellow activists carried teargas canisters which they lobbed at the kids.

Speaking exclusively to Ghafla Kenya, Bonface said that the video is malicious and is aimed at portraying activists as ill-intentioned people.

Mwangi, however, admitted that the man seen hurling the canister was one of them.

He, however, defended himself by saying that civilians have no access to teargas canisters and therefore there is no way the activists could lob them at the kids.

Jicho Pevu’s Mohammed Ali also quickly jumped to his defense.

The clip is quickly going viral even though it does not clearly indicate that the activists had the canisters.

The last time I penned an opinion about one self-proclaimed twitter bigwig Xtian Dela, the bloke went HAM on me, bashed Ghafla on twitter and said we are paid peanuts to tarnish his otherwise very clean name.

As the bashing continued, we expected many of his more than 460k twitter followers to rally behind their master, only to be supported by just one or two of his fake twitter users.

Well, if anyone thought my opinion was construed and malicious, Mohammed Ali has come to out to support me.

It started with blogger Robert Alai who as usual was the first to blow the whistle over this fishy antics. I personally got interested when Xtian Dela got nominated for three categories in the SMA Africa awards, travelled all the way to Nigeria just to come back empty handed.

When I questioned this, Dela was mad at me and said nilikuwa namharibia biashara. He called and vomited his venom over my article.

Well, a twitter user has called Xtian Delaterming him as fake. Late last week he had 406k followers. Today he has 462k followers.

Hata kama wewe ni celeb si hiyo ni too much! Si ununue tu kiasi kiasi ndio tusijue bwana!

Mohammed Ali, the most revered investigative journalist in Kenya, retweeted the tweet, agreeing that Xtian Dela is fake on twitter.

Gentlemen, In order to fully understand how to date a Kenyan socialite, you must first understand the type of person she is. A Kenyan socialite loves being in the limelight. All she cares about is marketing her goodies via pomp and prestige

. She spends a significant amount of time entertaining and being entertained at social events and on the nightlife scene. And not to forget, posting provocative pictures of herself on the internet to pull clients and ‘blind’ admirers. So since I’m on that Valentine’s tip this week, I am here to give you a couple of tips on how to date a woman of this caliber.

Be armed with cash

Like it or not, you’ll have to spend. Your wallet should be fatter than the last born kid of a rich man. Socialites are high maintenance women. They need money all the time. They need money to enhance their hips like Huddah recently did, or money to get new boobies like Vera the friendly ghost did. Kenyan socialites love money so much that they are more likely to climax after seeing bank notes than by sleeping with a man.

Money and fame are the only things that keep them happy. Otherwise they’d be emotional wrecks. They always look like they are having a good life but beneath the contented smiles and charming demeanors, there exists the mental scars of depressed women.

Be prepared to share

Of course you’ll have to share. Keep calm and always remain unfazed by the plethora of thirsty ninjas in her midst. Thirsty men who will put up devastating performances in her punani after showering her with cash and gifts. Just pretend not to be bothered by her legions of admirers. What do you think socialites do to get all the money? What do you think their real careers are?

Socialites are just evil wh#res of horrifically gargantuan proportions. Yes I said it. Sue me. Let’s not kid each other here. A Kenyan socialite’s cookie is a community cookie. Be prepared for that if you decide to date one. Unless you are a mega billionaire or a mega star, you won’t tie her down. She’ll never be loyal. She’ll always be the one in cruise control of the relationship

Have an exit plan

Know that a socialite won’t be popular or beautiful forever. Socialites have poor foresight. Most of them don’t have future plans. One day another hot new chic will emerge and take her place. One day she will get old and all her expensive extensions will begin falling off. She’ll be clueless hence she’ll be crying for your help every day. You’ll be tasked with hauling her out of her slump and trust me, you don’t want to do that. Run before that time comes

Over the Christmas holidays, Avril posted a makeup free Selfie, that caused quite the storm, no a typhoon on social media.

February is the month of love and pleasantries and many are bracing themselves to take those they love and cherish to a totally different level.

And as this comes, DJ Pierra Makena has started hers in advance and she has braced herself for one of a kind.

The DJ who also adds up as an actress was at the Spinal Injury Hospital along Lenana Road where she took her love for the patients having spinal cord problems.

Pierra, accompanied with friends, took flowers to the patients to show them love even as they lay in hospital writhing with pain and anguish.

This is philanthropy taken to another level. As some contemplate taking their loved ones out to posh areas for fun, Pierra was having her early Valentine with the patients.

The murder of Kabete Member of Parliament, George Muchai, in cold blood early Saturday morning left the country in awe, with many wondering why such an unfortunate beastly act could be done on the legislator.

Investigations into the murder of the MP, his two bodyguards and the driver has intensified in a bid to unravel the mystery behind this inhumane act.

And as detectives comb everything that is likely to unravel the mystery, two women have been linked to the murder of the former assistant secretary general to COTU.

Detectives have visited the Galileo Lounge in Westlands where the MP and his family were having a good time before they drove out only to meet his demise.

CCTV footage from Galileo shows two ladies seated close to the family, with one of them keeping an eye on the MP’s family.

The two are said to have entered Galileo before the family came in and left before the family left.

Detectives believe the two could lead to important information that is likely to unravel the untimely demise of the legislator.

Gospel singer Juliani and actress Brenda Wairimu are the latest parents in town after the actress gave birth last week.

Ghafla Kenya confirmed late last year that Brenda Wairimu was pregnant for singer Juliani after the two tried to keep their relationship a secret for a while.

It was until Juliani came out and opened up about his affair with Brenda, telling Pulse that they had dated for more than four years without anyone’s knowledge.

Juliani went ahead to confirm that indeed Brenda was pregnant for him, and now a week ago, the actress bore him a baby.

The two become the latest celebrity couple in town.

Looking at the current photo of Lupita and her mother, Dorothy Nyong’o, one needs to be very keen to note the similarities between mother and daughter.

But don’t be deceived by the age difference, 32 years down the memory lane, Dorothy Nyong’o was the exact copy of her daughter Lupita.

Looking at a photo of Dorothy in 1983 and comparing and contrasting it to a current photo of Lupita, one can hardly note any difference.
