Joey Muthengi is not new to the industry having hosted her first show ‘Can You Dance’ back in the day.

After her first stint on Kenyan TV, Joey joined ‘Hits Not Homework’ on Capital F.M before leaving it to host the last season of Tusker Project fame. The young lass who now works for ‘Sugar and Spice’ on Ebru TV yesterday had an unwelcome visit from some hooligans. According to her brother Holy Dave, thugs visited their Machakos home last night and gassed their pets who doubled up as security dogs.

Lucky for them no one was harmed and robbers did not steal anything.The dogs who have been their faithful companions for about a decade however did not manage to escape with their lives.

Thugs visited our Machakos home at night and gassed our 3 pets/security dogs. Fortunately the security guards were not harmed and the thugs didn’t manage to break in. The dogs have served us well and kept us safe for over 10 years and we’ll miss them. They died on the frontline… Salute. RIP. Cc @joeymuthengi

 

The Nation Media Group and NTV in particular was engulfed by the sad news of the passing away of one of their esteemed news anchors yesterday.

Rose Nankabirwa, a news anchor with NTV Uganda succumbed to a cancerous condition she has been battling for quite some time.

Rose has been battling cancer for a while now after doctors detected the ailment following increased pain. She died at the Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi where she had been flown for treatment.

Rose was one of the most established and good looking news anchor in Uganda and her passing away is a big loss to the entire NTV fraternity.

The somber loss could be soon on Yvonne Mainge as she broke the news last evening, paying a wonderful tribute to Rose and sending a sincere condolence to the family and friends of the deceased.

Over 100 students from the University of Nairobi were Sunday morning injured following a stampede after a power transformer exploded.

 The 4am incident which happened at the university’s Kikuyu campus caused confusion and panic as many students mistook the explosion for a terrorist attack.

This forced students to scamper for safety with many jumping from as high as the sixth floor of their hostels…ultimately ending up with ghastly injuries.

Many sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to hospital.

About 100 were admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital while others were taken to St Teresa and Karen hospitals.

Initial reports indicated that several of them were critically injured.

The stampede was caused by fears among students that the loud noise from the explosion of the transformer could have been an attack by Al-Shabaab terrorists.

This comes two weeks after 148 people died at the Garissa University College following an attack by the Somalia-based terrorist group.

Students are still receiving frantic medical care. We wish them the quickest recovery.

On December 3, 1967 at the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, the first human heart transplant was performed by a South African surgeon, Christiaan Barnard. This surgery marked a breakthrough in medicine.

And 50 years later, a 30-year-old computer scientist from Russia, will be putting his life on the line for the world’s first Head Transplant. Yep you read that right.

Basically it’s your head being completely cut of then transplanted on an entirely different body.
But as you can imagine the surgery is extremely delicate and if it fails the patient will die or worse undergo something so agonizing that death will look like a walk in the park. You can check out the procedure here

According to the Christopher Hootan of The Independent  the surgery is expected to take 36 hours with the help of 150 doctors and nurses .And there is “the possibility that the body will reject his head and he will die, the patients fate could be considerably worse than death”.

And experienced neurosurgeons are against it. Such as Dr Hunt Batjer, the president of the American Association for Neurological Surgeons who says that “I would not wish this on anyone. I would not allow anyone to do it to me as there are a lot of things worse than death.”

If the surgery succeeds, there is still the big question how the surgery will affect the patients mind and there is a possibility of the patient having a “never experienced level and quality of insanity”.

The question many of you are asking why is this young Russian man willing to wade in these unchartered waters with Dr. Sergio Canavero as head surgeon? Well, because he suffers from a degenerative muscular disease called Werdnig-Hoffmann and his health is rapidly declining as people with this condition do not live past 20 years.

The whole surgery sounds extremely painful and sounds like something right off a horror movie, but you can blame the volunteer, after all who does not was to preserve his life?

And Vera replied with this “Tell Orie that I will personally call and tell her about any new butt implants,” adding that “I understand everything that went down in Garissa, but at the end of the day, we must make money to earn a living. Orie goes to the office while I go to the club or any other place I need to appear.” she said.

KBC has made headlines today after its sub-editor made a typo that has gotten even politician-cum-lawyer Gitobu trolling badly on twitter.

Imanyara has shared the typo made on the TV station’s headline where instead of bereaved the headline read: Mourning with the BELIEVED.

The headline should have instead read: Mourning with the Bereaved.

Gitobu has gone ahead to include Nairobi Aviation College in the troll, saying that the editor must have gone through the institution to land in KBC.

This fresh turn of events will not go down well with Nairobi Aviation Students who demonstrated the last time NTV aired the rot in their college.

Al Shabaab’s grisly attack on Garissa hasn’t made the world’s most powerful man change his mind about visiting the country his father called home. As a matter of fact, the American President vowed to stand by the country in its fight against terrorism.

Obama’s July trip to Kenya is still on course as it was earlier planned. The US president himself confirmed he will be visiting the nation even after the bloody Garissa University Collage attack revealed the country was still vulnerable to terrorist attack.

The American leader penned a letter to Kenyans to express his condolences to the victims of the bloodbath. He commended the heroism of members of Kenyan security forces who lost their lives to save the survivors of the attack.

Obama also emphasized the future of Kenya will be shaped by the achievement of young people like the ones who lost their lives at Garissa attack. He said he would be relying the same message to Kenyans during his July visit.

The ladies in question are Wambui Mwangi and Shalija Patel …..and around October 2014, these ladies descended on Twitter-I’m surprised they knew how to use Twitter-and,for the next 2 billion hours or so,made sure that Smitta Smitten would be the TRENDING TOPIC. Why? Well,because,according to their very fertile imaginations, Tonny had sexually molested one of them-Shalija Patel,the grey-haired bald-headed poet-cum-i-don’t-know-what-else.

They tweeted the whole universe asking them to disassociate with Smitta Smitten ASAP! They also,ceaselessly, tweeted Smitta’s employers,publishers and sponsors, telling them that Smitta was an unscrupulous, sexual predator who deserved neither a job nor sponsorship.

Well, the case blew up in gigantic ways….And now 6 months later, I sought out  Smitta Smitten for a follow-up interview. And he was more than willing to graciously accord me a sitting.

We sat yesterday over ‘vinywajis’ as he likes to call them, and had quite a chat….

CABU GAH: Thank you for making time for this interview bro…Let’s launch right in. So,the case came….and you were dragged to court. Were you acquitted or what!?

Smitta: Acquitted?? I was NEVER even charged! Leave alone acquitted! There were NO grounds to charge me…to sustain the dubious, implausible ‘case’ these hate peddlers thought they had on me…It all fell apart…just like that!

CG: Just like that!?

Smitta: Just like that! There was NO evidence whatsoever… And you know, the courts hate having their time wasted…We couldn’t stay forever in a court determining a crime that never even happened in the first place…

SMITTA: Cabu, some people take themselves too seriously…

CG: I know…I mean, I know a no-nonsense female politician from Central Kenya who sued the political parody show XYZ for making fun of her…

SMITTA: Some people will never see the humor in anything… And thus, will always want to personalize anything they deem detrimental to their ‘image’. Crazy!

CG: Where were you when this whole nonsense first started?

SMITTA: I had had what I would call the best weekend ever…I had just performed at STORY MOJA FESTIVAL..Infact, I am the only local poet who was given the most time and segments to perform among all local other local poets and writers…and then I watched my favorite Football team Chelsea play against Man-City the following Sunday… It was a beautiful, beautiful weekend…

CG: And then….

SMITTA: And then I woke up on Monday morning feeling like shit…You know …all Monday mornings suck…(Laughs) I woke Up feeling like crap! And then I took my laptop…to log into Facebook…I remember very well..I wanted to make a Facebook update…but to this day, I never got around to making that update …

CG: What was the update? What was it about!?

SMITTA: I remember very well, I wanted to update: “After the most Beautiful Sunday night, comes the most dreadful Monday morning…”

CG: Wow. Sounds like a premonition…

SMITTA: I know! I didn’t know that the poetic thoughts that were crawling through my mind would actually be realized very fast….

CG: Ahaa…

SMITTA: So, as I was logging into Facebook to post that ka-update…I got a call. It was my ex-girlfriend…Cate….we shall just call her Cate…She called me and told me ,”Is what I am hearing true!? I seriously hope it’s not true!”

CG: And then…

SMITTA: My kid siz lives in Essex, Brito…(Britain) and you know what, the thought that first came into my mind was “My kid siz had passed away bro..”

CG: Wow…..

SMITTA: Yes! She’s my only sibling…and because she had been really close and tight with my ex-galfie Cate, I immediately thought that Cate was talking about my kid siz…

CG: And then…

SMITTA: You wouldn’t believe it but I was actually RELIEVED when I finally learnt that I was being accused of sexual molestation…

SMITTA: Bro,I won the Burt Award For African Literature with my book Meet The Omtitas…I won Ksh.430,000 man! Beating out many, many polished African Writers… I won that for a book I wrote and yet I never trended on Twitter! I never!

SMITTA: Not just that…I also trounced over 300 writers from all over Africa to bag a writing scholarship ; The Morland Writing Scholarship for African Writers…

SMITTA: Yes,and I won a grant worth $18,000…that is around Ksh. 1.6 million bro…to write a fictional book…and yet, yet again, I never trended on Twitter …I wish I trended on Twitter after making Kenya proud! Not for this bullshit bro!

SMITTA: People love sleaze…and dirt…and unfounded gossip…Bad news travels faster than good news ..it’s human nature…and it’s not good at all…

CG: Have you recovered now!? From all the shock and mudslinging and character assassination?

This is all because of this dubious allegations …and the lawsuit and currently handling.

CG: Of all things they could accuse you of, why sexual harassment!?

SMITTA: I DON’T KNOW! It’s crazy man! I mean, I have been a top-rated entertainment writer for over a decade now! Been in this industry for 11 years Cabu! I’ve attended real parties, met real hot girls, attended bikini parties…seen all these young, nubile girls…hang out with them and watched them strut their stuff…and yet I’ve never ever even had the slightest interest in them…young sexy and hot as they are…why would a man like me then want to grip and molest middle-aged women? At 1pm in the afternoon!!? In a crowded room!? Am I crazy!?! I mean, I’ve partied with bikini-clad models past midnight and never even bothered with them…how then would I find the motivation to molest these sort of people? SMITTA: It’s a collection of short stories based on injustice…stories about people who were judged wrongly…people who were crucified for stuff they never did…people who endured unbearable public judgement…people who were cyber-bullied….just a story on justice and lack of it…for the innocent…like Me…

The attack on Garissa University College, a constituent of Moi University, which left more than 147 people dead has attracted worldwide condemnation of the heinous acts of the Al Shabaab militants and put the Kenyan government on the spotlight for failing to guarantee security to its citizens.

Today saw the capital city of Belgium, Brussels, get flooded by thousands of mourners who gathered to honour and remember the 147 innocent Kenyans murdered by the Al Shabaab terrorists a week ago.

While families are collecting the remains of their loved ones from Chiromo morgue for their final resting places, Belgium has made history as the first European country to see the largest number of mourners gather to remember the victims.

It is reported that close to 1500 Belgians gathered in Brussels as students from a university in the capital, Universite Libre De Bruxelles, lit candles and gathered to pay tribute to the fallen Kenyans.

The cold blooded murder of about 147 human beings at Garissa University College will go down as one of the most aggressive, extreme terrorist attacks in Kenyan history.

It has come as a blow to us and it seems we are not the only ones who have felt the loss.Thousands of Belgium students held a tribute yesterday at the ULB Solbosch campus where they lit 147 candles of remembrance,brought flowers and had a moment of silence for the stolen lives.

This was after a call by the Union of Jewish Students of Belgium (UEJB) on their site in a bid to rally a quorum for the vigil “148 lives cut. Kenyan students and first and foremost the hope of tomorrow were murdered in their university Garissa by Shabaab Islamists.

Mown down by intolerance, fanaticism, the madness. We cannot and do not want to leave it in indifference.

The Union of Jewish Students of Belgium (UEJB) calls all students and all student groups to gather this Wednesday, April 8 at 18:30 at the ULB Solbosch campus symbolic place in the Square Group G. We will respect a minute of silence, associations that want it will speak and we will light 147 candles of remembrance.”

Their call was heeded and people came out in droves, 15,000 people to be specific.

Lisa Downey was just your regular girl next door, with a penchant for Instagram but things changed when Davido jetted into the country.
