The usually diplomatic and mellow-voiced Bahati was in rare form on Sunday when he wrote a sternly-worded post to his nemesis turned ally Willy Paul, going for his Jugular.

Bahati who was visibly besides himself in anger claimed that Willy Paul had stolen two of his songs, a thing which Willy Paul has been accused of only too often. Willy Paul, accuse has been accused of stealing Burna Boy’s ‘Check and Balance’, Rihanna’s Rehab and Elijah prince’s Tamu Tamu and so many other songs that we have lost track of.

In addition, the enraged Bahati claimed that Willy Paul has tried to counter each of his songs, so as to turn the attention away from Bahati’s freshest tracks to his own. You can read all about it here:

It was on 6^th April, 2014 when the country woke up to very disturbing news that one of the gospel industry’s finest artistes had passed away through unclear circumstances.

The passing on of Peter Kahura Kaberere famously knowns as Kaberere or Qabbz was one of the greatest setbacks in early 2014. He was not sick. Until his demise, he was healthy and lively. But as fate is, Kaberere passed on in what was said was an electrocution as he was his car.

And a year on, his friends, family and fans are celebrating his first anniversary.

Many have taken this opportunity to remember Kaberere’s works, his good deeds and as it is, some are still mourning the singer as they posted on social media.

Kaberere left a wife, Njesh wa Qabbz and two children whom fans have shown support to throughout as they remember the singer.

Rarely does a Gospel artiste take to the public avenues to lambast and call out his/her colleague for musical impropriety and/or copyright infringement. But as we have seen,that has already happened.

The nation was plunged into some musical shock late Sunday evening (April 5th) when Bahati,one of Kenya’s most sensational Gospel artistes took to Facebook to rip his contemporary Willy Paul.

Its a Facebook post that was read and re-read by thousands upon thousands,shared by thousands and commented on by close to 10,000 people. Boy,that’s monumental.

In the post,the normally demure Bahati let loose his canines and shredded his usually controversial counterpart for stealing his music,his shine and also for adopting a cold attitude towards him.

The beef uglily played out in public. And Kenya has not seen such a stupendous musical mess before…

What shocked many was the fact that,this was not a Prezzo/Redsan mess. Or a Prezzo/Jaguar,Prezzo/Bamboo,Kalighraph/Octopizzo or Chiwawa/Abass thing.

No,it involved Bahati and Willy Paul. Two of Kenya’s brightest and most spectacular,most prolific, most decorated and most visible GOSPEL artistes. Both of whom,too,have won the coveted Groove for MALE ARTISTE OF THE YEAR. And both of whom,too,do what I’d call ‘Bongo Gospel’.

Honestly, we knew that there was some serious tension between these two superstars but we never thought that things were this ugly. And worse still,we never expected, even in a thousand years,that the politer one between the two(Bahati) would one day EXPLODE on the internet and,unbridled,blast his colleague in the unparalleled manner he did Sunday evening.

Question remains; Why would two post-teen Gospel whiz kids chose the internet as the medium to settle their Church scores!!?

I mean,like I said,we are talking Bahati and Willy Paul here. Not Chiwawa and Kleptomaniax.

Secular artistes are allowed to blast each other anytime they wish,anyhow they wish and from whatever angle they wish. But Gospel artistes?? Public beefing? How now!!?

Bahati is in his early twenties…if not 19. Willy Paul,too, is a kid as well. Obviously,these are young men who MUST have spiritual guardians and mentors and handlers who should handle them with care, show them the way,guide them correctly, teach them how to handle their fame and fortunes,lead them in the paths of righteousness,correct them and scold them whenever they are wrong. But these people have TOTALLY refused to do their jobs…Leaving Bahati and Willy Paul to childishly sort out their own teenage mess. In public.

I DO NOT BLAME Bahati or Willy Paul. They’re young, spiritual rookies,anyway. These are the people I BLAME for all this madness.

1. SYSTEM UNIT/DJ MO
DJ MO is the popular DJ who hosts the long running NTV Gospel show,Crossover 101. He’s also married to secular-turned-gospel artiste Size 8. Now,in Kenya’s Gospel industry, one thing is very common; cartels. And one such cartel is the DJ MO-led Gospel music outfit SYSTEM UNIT. System Unit is some sort of umbrella that encompasses gospel artistes, deejays and dancers all of whom do school tours all year long and do shows as a team round the clock. Some of the artistes in System Unit are DK Kwenye Beat,Size 8,Hope Kid,Benachi,Mr Seed,Hey Z and now Willy Paul and Bahati. And some of the DJs in System Unit include Dj Tabz,Dj Terots and the Founder Dj Mo. Hypeman MC Njugush is also the official System Unit MC. System Unit is a family. A tightly-knit family that almost always is always together. You will find them all doing all concerts together,travelling together, performing together and hanging out together. All the time. Dj Mo is the Father of System Unit in which Willy Paul and Bahati belongs. Infact,Bahati calls Dj Mo “Dad”. Well,if that’s the case,did Dj Mo see all this Bahati/Willy Paul beef simmering? He must have witnessed them fight behind the curtains. He must have known that things weren’t right. He must know more than we do. What did he do to control the situation? And nip the beef in the bud? Was he ever concerned about their welfare? Or was he simply after their names to milk them and expand his empire? Did he ever sit them down to talk? Did he play his “Daddy” duties right!? Well,if he did,this nonsense would NOT have reached the public. If he did……

2. MUSIC PRODUCERS
As an embittered Bahati pointed out in his lengthy post,Willy Paul would sneak around studios to steal Bahati’s unreleased material and pass it off as his own. Clearly,Willy Paul is not some sort of superpower. To access unreleased Bahati music,he must be working in evil cahoots with evil producers. Bahati named some of these wicked, unscrupulous producers; Teddy B and Tim of Still Alive Studios. Why would these producers allow Willy Paul to shamelessly steal Bahati’s content? Why would they help him re-record the material? Why didn’t they raise the alarm the moment they realized that Willy Paul had snuck into their studios and stolen creative materials? They all either remained mum to cover Willy Paul. Or worked hand-in-hand with him to frustrate and exasperate Bahati. Or better still,they may all have received quite a heavy paycheck from Willy Paul. And told to keep the whole thing hush-hush. I’m not saying they did it. It’s just hypothesis. Either way,the producers are heavily a part of the problem. And they are to blame. Forever.

3. GOSPEL DJS
Kenyan Gospel DJs also fall here. These are the people who popularize gospel music,they’re the people who hear and access new unreleased music first in the whole country,they’re the people who create the likes of Bahati and Willy Paul. They’re pretty much the gods of the industry. The lords who DECIDE what gets played and what doesn’t. They decide what song becomes a hit. And what song becomes a flop. They’re all-powerful. But why did these DJs still play music that was clearly stolen? Why did they NOT ban Willy Paul’s music and demand better from him? By continuously playing his stolen music,and putting it under unprecedented rotation, didn’t these DJs fuel Willy’s thieving habits? And spur him to steal more? And continue recording controvertible material? I’ll tell You why they played Willy’s insincere music; They played it because they deemed it hot. And because a hot Dj plays the hottest music. Asking a Gospel DJ NOT to play Willy Paul’s music is like asking a random Kenyan DJ not to play a Davido song. Or Wizkid. Never gonna happen. These DJs encouraged Willy Paul by continuously according his unoriginal music massive airplay. No DJ  ever said “No” to Willy Paul. And that’s how the demon was groomed. And fed. See the madness now…

4. CHURCH PASTORS/LEADERS
Does Bahati go to Church? Does Willy Paul go to church? If yes,who are their pastors? Who are those spiritual authorities under whose jurisdiction and guidance Bahati and Willy Paul fall? What are these Church leaders’ roles in the lives of Bahati and Willy Paul? Before this beef boiled over into the public in the nasty manner it did,were these pastors aware of the situation? Did these spiritual fathers know that Willy Paul had been shortchanging Bahati for years now? What did they do about it? Did they ever sit these artistes down for a tête-a-tete? For this beef to play out so publicly, for Bahati to,exasperated, chose to attack Willy Paul in public,as his last resort, it only shows that someone somewhere slept on their job. Bahati’s youth pastor MUST be answerable. So is Willy Paul’s. And if these Men of God actually DID try and resolve these issues before they blew up,why didn’t Bahati and Willy Paul listen to them? Either they did a shoddy guidance and counseling job. Or they were too smitten by these two superstars’  celebrity status to firmly and uncompromisingly come down hard on them. And successfully command them to end the madness. Privately.

A number of shocked Gospel artists and players have now come out to strongly condemn the Bahati/Willy public beef. And to call for sobriety…

They are,just like us,alarmed that this whole thing would get so ugly. And go so public. No one saw it coming. Not the least fellow gospel artists.

Before we try to understand why Bahati decided to go public. Or why Willy Paul has become such a persona non grata,we must first forgive them.

And lay the blame on the abovementioned people. They’re the REASON this is happening. Because they’re the people who steer,chaperon,control,manage and guide the careers of these two Gospel wonder kids.

They’re to blame because this is NOT a secular industry thing. But a Jesus thing.

Unfortunate.

It’s barely two weeks since Diamond released his song and it’s already a sensation in East Africa. Kenya has also reacted to the song.

After ‘Nasema Nawe’ was released sometimes late last month, some people were heard saying it was mediocre on the part of Diamond Platnumz comparing it to his mega hit ‘Number One.’

But time has come to prove the critics wrong, the song has already garnered over 697 thousand views on YouTube twelve days after it was uploaded.

That is nothing compared other numerous videos that have been uploaded by fans twerking to the song. The mischievous Eric Omondi is probably the first Kenyan celebrity that has joined the bandwagon of fans dancing to Diamond’s hit.

Of cause he didn’t twerk, his flat behinds couldn’t allow him to. Eric did what he could afford to do best; skillfully twisting his waist.

The comedian’s hilarious dance attracted the attention of the Tanzanian heartthrob who couldn’t hide his laughter. He then asked his social media army to rate Eric’s performance.

After fans realized that Willy Paul Msafi was not as clean as he purported to be. They aborted the mission and poured on social media in drones to vent their displeasure at the new thief in town. There was a time, not long ago though, when the gospel industry in Kenya and the world over was one of the most revered, respected and adored professions. This was the time when people knew who God really is and the reasons why everybody should be genuine and true to themselves when worshipping him. This was the time the world knew that truly God is Supreme and he remains so.

Gone are those days. While the other parts of the world are still embracing this, Kenya has completely taken a u-turn and believe we are quickly descending to hell like we saw some gold there. All this is happening thanks to artistes like Willy Paul and Bahati.

It was over this past weekend that Kenyans all over were taken aback when Bahati threw what can only be termed as a bombshell. The singer who recently released the song Lover took to his facebook account to let the world know what has been silently going on between him and his nemesis Willy Paul.

In his long post that would take you close to 6 minutes to reach the last line, Bahati explained how Willy Paul has been stealing his songs from producers and rushing to release them before he (Bahati) does that. The bitterness with which he typed the accusations was evident. Bahati explained how Willy Paul has been ignoring his calls every time he wants to discuss this unfortunate incident with him.

The singer went on to claim that Willy Paul stole the song Mpenzi from him and now he has stolen his Malia song which is yet to be released and Willy Paul has rebranded it to Salima and is planning to release it soon.

Kenyans, as usual and as expected, joined the conversation and as we speak, there are more than 7000 comments on this post. They were utterly disgusted by Willy Paul. The singer is yet to defend himself from the allegations.

This is not the first time Willy Paul has been accused of stealing other artistes’ songs and changing a few things to make them his. Allegations have risen before that Willy stole beats from Nigeria’s Barna Boy and Rihanna’s songs. He was also accused by a Tanzanian artiste of stealing beats from his song.

Apart from stealing songs and executing them in his own way, Willy Paul has been embroiled in controversies before. He was accused of dating a chain smoker and has been seen flaunting her not more than once. This is the same lady who later came out and accused Willy Paul of trying to strangle her when they disagreed.

Ghafla Kenya ran this story and when we asked Willy Paul about the same, he went berserk and threatened to blow up Ghafla offices if we do not pull down the story. When he realized we were adamant about it, he calmed down and started narrating how his mum has been sick and would succumb to her sickness if she saw the story. We never pulled it down and Willy Paul’s mum is still alive. Since then Willy Paul has always ignored our calls every time we wanted to get clarifications from him.

Willy Paul is also an arrogant and unapologetic artiste who is full of pride and ego. Ever since he came into the limelight, Willy Paul has always thought he is better off than other artistes and almost always looks down upon them. His relationship with the media is also pathetic and he has allowed it to be so.

The reactions from his fans after Bahati’s expose tell it all. He is quickly losing feat as a celebrated gospel artiste and instead he is embracing the character of a villain who came out to taint the gospel industry.

Bahati is not clean himself. Despite making the public believe he is humble and down to earth himself, the singer has his own controversies that have made us believe he is not meant for the gospel industry. His move to expose Willy Paul on the social media where he knows Kenyans will always crucify Paul was uncalled for. There are many channels he would have used to reach out to Willy Paul.

And by the way how sure are we that what he is saying is true? Christians do not go the way Bahati went. I saw a comment on his post from one of the fans showing how producer Big Ted vehemently denied the allegations that Willy Paul had bribed him to leak Bahati’s songs to him. By accusing even producers, it clearly shows that Bahati did not consult all the accused parties. There is no way they would all ignore his calls.

I also saw a comment from an incensed fan accusing Bahati of swindling close to 40k from a hawker who had produced songs and asked Bahati to help them promote their songs. That Bahati asked for 40k from the artiste and later disappeared into thin air. Remember this artiste never ran to the social media to taint Bahati. So was he justified to bring down Willy Paul’s career? Hell no.

These and many other things are some of the incidents showing how greed and competition have plunged the gospel industry into catastrophe. Long gone are the days when the industry was driven by the desire to worship God and truly serve him. Unlike then, today it is all about money, competition and desire to mark boundaries.

The gospel industry has never had enemies. Why now? I am not here to judge because I will be going against the doctrines of the holy book but Willy Paul and Bahati are a manifestation of a rotten industry that needs a complete overhaul.

Angela Chibalonza

Angela Chibalonza, even after she left us almost 8 years ago, remains the greatest gospel singer of all time. Her music is not just inspirational but also God-ordained and meant to show thetrue worship of God. Even though she had her own flaws as a human being, she steered clear of controversy and remained in the correct path. She is to date the greatest singer that Kenyans miss.

That is just an example. There are many more true gospel singers who, without courting controversy, have remained blessed and wealthy than Willy Paul and Bahati.

Perhaps the two are still gallivanting in adolescence and its deceitful nature. When they finally mature they will know how much they have wasted themselves.

Haven’t they been told that money without power is useless? If not, someone needs to inject this sense into the two fame-searching incompetent singers masquerading as God’s servants.

While we are still smarting from the bombshell that Bahati dropped yesterday,accusing his emulator Willy Paul of chronic musical thievery,arrogance,dishonesty and secularism,Here’s a photo that Willy Paul uploaded to the internet on March 27th….

Ok,let’s face it,Kenya is a deeply religious-and superstitious-country and any attempt to channel the devil or the devil’s perceived signs and symbols shall be met with the strongest and harshest resistance.

Willy Paul may not be familiar with the legend that goes that anyone who poses for a photo and decides to let his index and little fingers stick out from the rest of the clenched hand,then that person has some serious explaining to do.

Kenyans-and Human Beings world over-have always associated this particular hand symbol with the devil-Or dark,evil societies…

But Willy Paul,ever the stupid rebel,decided to stir up some hype for his stolen song by imitating a stolen hand pose. And attracting some serious backlash at that.

Normally,in the global,result-oriented society we live in,when someone accuses You of something,anything,You do not take long before addressing the claims. And,vehemently or otherwise,coming forward to either or deny or confirm the rumors. But Willy Paul,clearly,lives in his own world.

After his musical contemporary Bahati blasted his Yesterday,calling him all manner of unpalatable things and even questioning his allegiance to God,Willy Paul has chosen to remain silent in the face of the simmering social media beef between himself and the seemingly humble and harmless Bahati.

Well,No one quite expected that Bahati would be so valiant as to post the kind of no-holds-barred Facebook update he posted yesterday.

We’ve all known that things are not so rosy in the Willy Paul-Bahati backyard but we seriously never guessed that things could be this bad! To a point of the famously brash,proud,hardheaded and arrogant Willy Paul flatly refusing to pick Bahati’s phone calls….For days on end.

In quite an unprecedented move,Gospel whiz kid Bahati decided to blast his on-and-off nemesis Willy Paul in the most public of public ways-Social Media.

In a rant that would take you a whole 5 minutes to finish reading,Bahati exposed his compatriot badly calling him a thief,a spy,a con,a jealous artiste,a conniving rival and a perennial artistic swindler. Things we can all agree Willy Paul is,anyway.

Bahati went all in…going for the jugular and sparing nothing in his very bitter post that blew up the internet and that has,to this minute,pulled in over 6500-strong comments. And they’re still trickling in…Thick and fast.

Bahati claims that Willy Paul has been,consistently,stealing his music even before it has left the studios.

He claims that Willy Paul stole his Mapenzi hit from him(Bahati). And he has now hatched a plot with Producer Tim Of Still Alive Studios to rip Bahati off his not-yet-released song Malia and re-make it into Salima.

The internet is yet to recover from the shock that that Facebook post elicited across the nation.

It’s popular knowledge that Willy Paul STEALS almost all of his songs but NO ONE thought he’d be so audacious as  to connive with Kenyan Music Producers to not only steal and re-make international hit songs(Rihanna,Burna Boy) but also steal and re-make local songs done by his fellow Gospel artiste.

This is probably one of the most horrific attack on the Kenyan people by the outlawed militia. The bandits, as  the news had it, attacked Garissa college on the wee hours of yesterday morning where they proceeded to shoot helpless students indiscriminately. 

 The kenyan armed forces did not manage to do an evacuation until some hours to 8 last evening at which 147 lives had been lost and scores others had suffered unspeakable injuries and psychological trauma. The government has however reassured residents of heightened security in the days to come as the Government looks into ways how they can manage to contain the  situation for good. 

Earlier today, I saw this message that broke my heart. It is probably the last message that this lady wrote.

“I underwent a medical examination and the doctors confirmed I have a normal uterus, ovaries and I can bear children.” He says.

Adding that “My mother tells me that she had to conceal the truth for fear of wrath from the community. The Luo community treats such cases as a bad omen. I could have been killed had my community gotten wind of my condition. She also told me that she feared that we could have both been thrown out of our home.”

He also confesses about having his first period “I was shocked when I experience my first monthly periods, my breasts and hips begun to grow. However, my mother took me to a local dispensary where I was given some medication and some of the features like the growth of breasts and hips stopped.”

According to the site, the musician had also been molested y his step father as a kid but was not too keen to open up about his traumatic past. But despite all this, he has managed to live a normal life and even has a wife and kids!
