Hospital refuses to release the body of a journalist’s mother over 4 million bill

Former KBC anchor Maryam Omar and her family are trying to raise about 4 million shillings in order for their late mum’s body to be released from a local hospital for burial.

The journalist who now works as the Output Editor of BBC Swahili Dira ya Dunia TV is said to have lost her mum after she lost a battle against stomach cancer leaving behind a hospital bill of KSh 4 million.

Maryam Omar and her family are however trying to get about 1 million for the hospital to release the body of the deceased as they continue to find other means to get the remaining 3 million.

Judging from her name, the lady comes from a Muslim family and we all understand that In all cases, the Islamic religious law calls for burial of the body immediately after the next Salah (prayer) a few hours after one has passed on.

But in Maryam Omar’s case the burial has been delayed due to the challenges their family is facing.

The government withdrew police officers attached to Mombasa governor Hassan Joho after he told president Uhuru to his face that he was hijacking development projects at the coast.

The government ordered police protecting Joho to immediately surrender their firearms to the nearest police station in Mombasa.

The state later reinstated Joho’s security explaining that the withdrawal was aimed at restructuring police guarding governors.

Addressing delegates in the opposition rally at Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday January 11^th, Joho said he didn’t need state protection.

“I am the happiest man on earth, I drove myself to this venue and will drive myself home. Jubilee can stay with their security,” Joho spoke.

True to his word, Joho locked out police officers deployed to guard his residence in Nyali. Media reports claim that the officers were chased away when they arrived at Joho’s house to carry on with their duty.

Joho’s communications director Richard Chacha revealed the governor vacated his residence over safety concerns after the government withdrew his security.

“Let them knock and ask who the new occupants are… Joho has already hired another team for his new home,” Richard Chacha said.

The Trend’s Ciru Muriuki labeled a traitor for exposing a vernacular radio propagating Uthamaki agenda

Ciru Muriuki spoke her mind and some people from her tribe think she is a traitor to a cause being perpetrated by the community.

Ciru exposed a plan by a certain vernacular radio station urging listeners to register as voters in mass in order to defend Uthamaki (tribal kingship).

“This one I have to speak on, and if I’m called a traitor, so be it. A certain vernacular station is running ads urging its listenership to register as voters enmasse in order “kurangira uthamaki” (defend the kingship). What tribalist garbage is this? Shouldn’t people register simply because it’s their civic right? Let me tell you…as a member of said community, I will not be defending any uthamaki because it’s not mine. I’m a broke, job hunting Kenyan. The only thing I should defend is my WIFI password and my taxes from being looted. All else is folly. Ati kurangira uthamaki. Uyu akiri urimu. Pu,” Ciru wrote.

Her post rubbed Uthamaki loyalists the wrong way and they responded by firing salvos at her; they even labeled her a traitor.

Ciku however remained adamant she wouldn’t apologize to anyone hurt by her decision to sound the alarm on Uthamaki agenda being spread by the vernacular radio.

“It looks like my post yesterday upset a lot of people. And that is your right. If your identity depends on defending Uthamaki, that’s fantastic. However, if you are going to defend Uthamaki, do so because you believe in the current holder of Uthamaki…not because you have been told that it is your tribal duty to do so. That would be doing yourself…and him…a great disservice. Also if you’re waiting for me to apologize for MY opinion, you will be waiting a long, LONG time.”

Kenyans are not pleased that Citizen TV turned a blind eye to a pregnant woman who was in need of help. Instead they followed her around filming her misery.

The most controversial photograph in the history of journalism was shot by Kevin Carter in March 1993 in Sudan during a ravaging drought; the South African journalist later committed suicide due to depression.

Carter found a girl who had stopped to rest while struggling to get United Nations feeding centre, but instead of helping her he stopped to take a photo of the vulture which was waiting for the girl to die so that it could eat her.

The vulture and the little girl — The vulture is waiting for the girl to die and to eat her. The photograph was taken by South African photojournalist, Kevin Carter, while on assignment to Sudan. He took his own life a couple of month later due to depression.

Carter aside, Citizen TV reporter Anne Mawathe has come under sharp criticisms from Kenyans for airing a story of a woman in labour.

In their quest to tell Kenyans about the effects of doctors’ strike, Mawathe and Citizen TV crew filmed and followed the expectant mother from Pumwani Hospital where she was turned away to St. Mary’s Hospital in Langata where she lost the baby upon delivery.

Kenyans took to the social media to troll Mawathe; some argued the Citizen TV crew could have helped the woman instead of filming her misery.

“Human fragility is real, I am sure we all appreciate this fact. As we obsess about profanities, let’s remember that doctors are still on strike, there is a Kenyan somewhere who needs that service so badly….I wish we were as angry about this strike and demanded that the government resolve it…” Anne Mawathe responded to critics.

It’s not the first time Mawethe is in trouble over her story; in 2013, the Citizen TV journalist was accused of fabricating a story about Dandora rape gangs.

A few hours ago president Magufuli showed his support to Diamond Platnumz who will soon be performing at the opening ceremony of the 2017 African Cup of Nations that will be held in Gabon.

To celebrate this, Diamond Platnumz was joined by Tanzania’s minister of sports, culture and Arts who gifted him with a Tanzanian flag for good luck and best wishes ahead of his performance.

However, among the photos Diamond Platnumz shared apparently one displayed big patches of sweat that raised an alarm among his fans.

Louis Otieno dropped as the main suspect in the murder of Careen Chepchumba

Former KTN anchor Louis Otieno has been vindicated by the police after close to five years. Authorities have no clue who murdered Careen Chepchumba.

Careen Chepchumba was found dead in her Kilimani apartment on 14th February 2012. Autopsy results showed that she had been strangled.

Police treated Louis Otieno as the main suspect in the murder of Careen as all preliminary evidence showed he had something to do with her death.

Chepchumba’s murder case took a new twist yesterday as police absolved Louis Otieno of murder. The former KTN anchor was cleared of any wrongdoings after police established that the evidence they had gathered couldn’t link him to the death of Careen.

Senior Sergeant Maobe told the inquest into the murder of Careen that they (the police) forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions because they did not link Louis Otieno to the February 14th 2012 murder.

Ann Wangechi Nderitu from the Government Chemist also told the inquest that forensic report revealed that the nail clippings purported to be from Otieno were actually from Careen, and blood samples from her bed did not match those from Louis’.

Sergeant Maobe told the inquest that even though the postmortem report indicated that Careen was strangled to death, the police didn’t get evidence that could nail a suspect.

Louis is not off the hook just yet, the inquest will resume on January 24^th to determine the way forward.

Gigy Money opens up about her affair with Alikiba as she claims to still miss him

Word has it that Gigy Money once dated Alikiba but very few were aware of this. However the bootylicious Vixen made it public through a post he shared on her instagram page claiming that she misses the good old times she shared with the singer.

Gigy Money even uploaded a photo that suggested the two had indeed had an affair in the past but nothing serious as they are currently seeing different people at the moment.

It is not surprising that the two dated in the past as the Bongo entertainment industry is now becoming popular of sharing spouses…these stars literally recycle each other’s exes and none seem bothered by it.

Miss World Tanzania Diana Edwards says Miss World Kenya Evelyn Njambi stabbed her in the back to ruin her chance to shine at the global Miss World competition.

In an interview with Bongo 5 in December, Diana Edwards said that her documentary titled Maasai Dondosha Wembe which was about a project calling on communities to bring to an end female genital mutilation, scooped position 24 in the Beauty with a Purpose category instead of the first position because Evelyn Njambi complained that she also had a similar display.

Miss World Tanzania claimed Njambi, who was her best friend, copied her project without her knowledge.

“I am not happy with what she did, I asked her if she knew some Kenyan designer she denied yet she has ever been designed by him. So I wore his design not knowing she has ever worn it and did a photo-shoot with it. All along she was a fake, going behind my back, saying as Africans we have to support each other yet she knew exactly what she was up-to,” Diana was quoted by Bongo 5.

In her defense, Miss World Kenya said she didn’t play part in Edwards’ failure since it was the work of judges to dictate the results of a contestant’s performance.

“We have no control over how a judge will dictate your results or your performance. Our work was to do the video, which we did and submitted. So, when we got there to Miss World competition, the judges had already seen them – and we were only waiting for their evaluation reports. So, it is good that both of us had the same project, but I think the most important thing is for us to put our differences aside and come together and face this Beauty with a Purpose project that occurs in both our countries, which is anti-FGM, and which I am very passionate about. So, if we were to come together and rescue them (girls) from the female circumcision that would be great. Yeah. I have forgiven her for the remarks. KTN journalist weds his long-term girlfriend in stunning Swahili wedding

Abuller Ahmed who is Swahili sports anchor at KTN married the love of his life, Mariam Mjahid on Sunday, January 1 in Kilifi in front of friends, family and close relative who were there to witness their union.

The journalist who is firmly known for his Swahili accent could not hide his excitement of finally exchanging vows with the woman he had been wishing to spend the rest of his life with.

Abuller and his bride stunned at the wedding as their outfits spoke massive in terms of expense. The groom was pictured in two different Swahili outfits that are often worn by Islamic men during their weddings.

The bride on the other hand stunned in a white cinderella like gown that was accessorized using silver jewwelries including a Tiara that left the bride looking like a princess.

She has been lucky, finding just the right person in her husband Raj Sehmi and has been patient enough to wade through the tides of marriage. She has few lessons as to what it takes which she decided share as she celebrates this important day.

First thing first, you have to find someone who is driven and keen on uplifting you; someone who is honest to you and to themselves and somebody who you definitely trust and who is willing to share responsibilities with you.

Marry someone who is driven. Someone who optimistically supports and uplifts you. Marry someone who is honest. Honest with you, with others and with themselves. Don’t marry someone you don’t trust. 3 times Hassan Joho has been accused of being an academic dwarf and a cheat… Even by DP William Ruto

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has been accused of being an academic dwarf several times. A KCSE certificate doing rounds on the internet has further ruined Joho’s reputation in as far as education is concerned.

In 2014, Joho fought a battle to prove to Kenyans his university degree was genuine. The Mombasa governor was accused of buying a degree even though he proved he was a student at Kampala International University and he graduated properly.

Sometimes in November last year, Deputy President William Ruto also accused Joho of being an academic dwarf for opposing the set up of a dry port in Eldoret. Speaking at the historic Tononoka grounds during the launch of Jubilee Party, Ruto said Joho was an academic dwarf who couldn’t grasp the term ‘dry port’.

Then yesterday January 11^th someone posted a KCPE certificate of a certain Ali Hassan and claimed the certificate was Joho’s.

The certificate showed Ali Hassan who was a student at Serani Secondary School, scored a mean grade of D Minus in 1993 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.

Joho through Mombasa County’s Director of Communications, Richard Chacha, dismissed the KCSE certificate.

“His name is Hassan Ali Joho not Ali Hassan. That is fake,” Richard Chacha said.

Police arrested three workers after Anne Kansiime’s bar was broken into. But the Ugandan comedian has now revealed that the robbery was the work of fellow humorists.

Anne Kansiime’s Kubbys bar which is located in Naalya was robbed a few days before Christmas. Thieves made away with TVs, music equipment, and bottles of whisky among other things.

The robbery was reported to police and arrests were made on December 28^th; police arrested three workers and detained them for a night before setting them free on a bond.

For the better part of 2016 Pierra makena kept a low profile, avoiding the media and social media and many of us thought she was just concentrating on being a mother.

Little did we know she was struggling with tears, broken relationships, betrayal by friends and basically a bad time. I’m not dating her by the way just in case you are wondering how I know this but she posted this on her instagram. Actually here, have a look:

2016 was indeed one to remember. Went to rock bottom. Tears ..broken relationships..lost many friends. But out of it I GOT WISER. . I made new few friends.. I faced my fears and came out successful. I faced bad relationships and now I have loyalty. I said No to toxic and fake friendships.
My fear when I fell pregnant but out of it I got the biggest blessing and indeed God has not left my side even once. All that matters is me and my baby. I thank God for my family and few friends who stood by me through 2016.

Nyeri High School was full of buzz and excitement for the better part of the morning and it’s all courtesy of one lad by the name, Kevin Muriuki.

It was his first day in school and he decided to show up in style, riding in a goddamn chopper much to the shock and awe of everyone.

Muriuki is not the son of Sonko by the way (we all know he has couple of them) neither is he the son of some powerful politician nor showy tycoon but the son of a poor farmer. The only difference between him and others is the fact that Kevin has a dream; a dream to become a pilot one day.

His education sponsors who saw that dream, the Kenya Air Force Veterans Association, made him edge closer to it by giving him his first trip to school in a chopper .

President Nana Akufo Addo might be in the headlines as we speak but he’s laughing all the way to the bank, actually he does that quite often.

The man lives large and he has no apologies to make. Now at 72, he is a lawyer and son of Edward Akufo-Addo, who served as president of Ghana in the 1970s. After several unsuccessful bids for the office, Nana Akufo-Addo won his own Ghanaian presidential election this past December against incumbent John Mahama. Akufo-Addo ran as a candidate with the New Patriotic Party and nabbed 53.85 percent of the vote.

Some random Ghanaian who happened to be in his house for a party- probably to celebrate the win decided to give us a sneak peek into his ultra modern mansion and what it consists off will basically blow your mind away.

An irate journalist took to the social media to insult his wife whom he accused of being a witch who had intentions to finish him.

Facebook has become a platform where people spew all sorts of gibberish that sometimes maim the reputations of other people.

A trained journalist in Malawi took to Facebook to post a photo of his wife who he accused of being a witch.

Collins Mtika sent shockwaves across the Southern Africa state after screenshots of his post on Facebook went viral.

King Kaka has released a new song dubbed Senzenina featuring Upper Hill’s RedFourth choir.

The song released a few days ago has left many touched due to the emotional lyrics drafted by the Swahili rapper popularly known for his poetic poems that speak straight to the heart.

Senzenina is a song that talks about the passing of a loved one. King Kaka delivers heartfelt lyrics that speak loud to those who have lost their loved ones in the past assuring them that everything will eventually be well.

He features Redfourth Chorus who are now known for their sultry vocals and amazing way of harmonizing their way into most people’s hearts.

A photo of a man carrying a baby on his back at the airport has sparked ridicule from a majority of male population while at the same time the photo attracted applause from ladies.

A dad in Kisumu takes his baby with him to work; Silas Odhiambo popularly known as Apuoyo Biggy caused a stir when he revealed that he would rather go to work with his baby than leave her with a house help. He carries his child on baby carrier and goes with it to work every day.

Sad: Popular Tanzanian singer Kijakazi Shaban beaten to death by her husband (Photos)

The deceased’s family says her husband used to batter her quite often. Unfortunately she died before she could walk out of the abusive marriage.

Kijakazi Pazi Shaban popularly known as Zamzam died at her home in Musoma after her husband, Hamad Ally, assaulted her.

A source close to the family told Amani newspaper that Mr. Ally tried to cover his crime when he took his dead wife the mortuary; he told morgue attendants that Zamzam had succumbed to ulcers.

Postmortem performed at Temeke hospital on Zamzam’s body confirmed that the late singer died as a result of physical injuries inflicted upon her.

Tanzanian police arrested Zamzam’s husband and locked him at Chang’ombe police station as investigations continue.

“Zamzam had in the past sent gory photos of her deformed, wounded face to friends, saying she had been cruelly beaten by her husband – and that if anything would happen to her, then her husband should be held accountable,” a source told Amani newspaper.

The song recorded and produced by Wasafi has been doing quite well and judging from the funny clips shared on Instagram, there is no doubt that the singer delivered exactly what the fans wanted.
