Caroline Mutoko Exposes The Man Riding on Her Fame to Defraud Kenyans

For the longest time now, con artists have been using fake celebs accounts to swindle Kenya of their hard-earned cash. There have been incidents where unsuspecting guys have lost money this way. Recently, Kiss 100’s Caroline Mutoko cautioned her fans not to fall victim to a Mr. Wisdom Aseka who was asking for money from guys in exchange of jobs at Radio Africa group.

The guy even set up an email address (caro-mutoko@yahoo.com) to make his transactions look legit. Caro clarified that she doesn’t solicit for funds from anyone for any purpose. Here’s her message;

It’s come to my attention once again that you are still happily giving money to people who are promising you jobs in my name. Stop it.

Anyone telling you that is a conman/conwoman.

The culprit in question uses the name Mr Wisdom Aseka on 0707883835 and uses the e-mail address caro-mutoko@yahoo.com

I don’t solicit funds for any charity, foundation or home in Kibera or Mathare or ANY PART OF KENYA. I’ve said it once I’ll say it again – there are no jobs in exchange for any money at Radio Africa – not on-air, not anywhere.

The person he tried to con has gone to the police.
This is the third time this year I’m sending out this alert.
Let your friends know – be careful.

Radio Presenter Writes A Poem Entitled: “There Is No God”

One FM radio presenter Adelle Onyango(pictured) is also famous for being a rather provocative poet outside of the booth. I discussed her poetry with her the other day, and she told me of her most thought-provoking poem which she aptly named “There Is No God.” I don’t want to give my own opinion about this one, lest I be lynched by a mob with flaming torches. Thankfully, however, Adelle gave me her permission to share the said poem with the Ghafla!Fans, so here it is:

THERE IS NO GOD

An engraved wooden door opens to a murder scene.

Graffiti stains of blood spell a story played over centuries.

What was, is and yet to be, responsible for what we’re seeing.

Tiles littered with pieces of fatalities.

The air is not a blanket of cries

No whimpers, no effortless sighs.

Just a thick blanket of silence

Marking an exit of a presence

I sit amidst this jungle of clues

We fought; we killed, because we were the truth.

My fingers tainted different shades of jealousy and rage.

Whilst off my tongue, rolls racism and hate

The murder plays over in my head,

The monster created during the 7 days echoed His death.

I lay down in a thick pool of blood,

As the reality of minutes past, begins to flood.

There is no God

We killed Him tonight.

After DJ Cleo, Another Top SA DJ Coming to Kenya

DJ King Cool is one of Africa’s top DJs, and not only is he doing a mix featuring Kenyan music, he will be in the country to perform soon. The DJ will drop the mix on the 15th of January in anticipation to his planned performance in the same month.

He started his career in Cape Town, South Africa two years ago. King Cool is one of the few remaining DJs around that experienced the dance revolution throughout all its stages as it progressed in South Africa.

There is probably not asingle venue’s dance floor in Cape Town that doesn’t use his sets. He still carries on his proud tradition of delivering the freshest, funkiest, most mind-blowing sets available to both “dance-floor monkeys” and club-goers.

Throughout his travels around the African globe, numerous CD’s, collaboration and remixes of songs are accredited to his ability to identify punting tunes and transforming them into something special. He recently did a Mozambique Mix which is getting major airplay in stations there.

He has played alongside most of SA’s best DJs, including DJ Cleo who also performed in Kenya earlier this year. Although you will most probably find music from every era imaginable in his music box, he can also change his style of music to suit any event.

Robert Alai Prays For Kileleshwa Residents to be Raped And Robbed!

Controversial blogger who at one time harboured ambitions of being the top cop in the land has tweeted in support of crimes of a violent nature!

The blogger who is also a rather huge deal in social media circles such as Facebook and Twitter yesterday tweeted that he is praying for the residents Kileleshwa to experience more acts of violent crime such as rape and robbery. Actually, what his tweet said was “I am down on my knees praying that people continue to be raped and robbed in Kileleshwa so they will wake up to the insecurity”!

robertalai.jpeg

I don’t know whether he is trying some shock-jock method of tweeting to get a message across or whether he’s being his usual abrasive and insensitive self but i do know that rape is a grenade of a word and when used, one must use it with care and sensitivity. Rape is the most vile action a lady can be subjected to enduring and i happen to know for a fact that some would rather die than allow themselves to be violated thus.

To go on about rape in this manner is to trivialize it. To wish it upon someone even worse. This is despicable! Alai should pick up the phone and call his sister, girlfriend and ask her what it would do to her entire being to be raped. If he has neither sister nor girlfriend, he should try and visualize a man forcing himself on his daughter. Not a pretty thought is it?

Now join me in grabbing the popcorn and let’s sit back and await the blowback from this rather dense tweet.

Attitude to drop his come-back album in ten days

He thrived back in the days of Kalamashaka, Mercy Myra and K-South. One of the best rappers at that time and there is no doubt Attitude left a mark in the Kenyan music industry.

Now, he is about to revive his fire. Attitude has been going on and on about his album that should be dropping in the next two weeks or so.

He has currently been working on his tattoo shop and some little bit of music and now he is about to show off the result of his work.

Attitude’s new album, titled ‘MnM’ (Margarona’z n Marijuana) will be dropping in the next ten days, after he drops the track list and the album cover, which is what he is probably working on right now.

Let’s wait and see if he still got it.

10 Things You Probably Never Knew about Citizen TV’s Julie Gichuru

She’s undoubtedly the best female TV news anchor in Kenya right now. Julie Gichuru has earned great admiration among both the young and old not only for her beauty but also for her enchanting personality. She recently talked to Carol Odero of Drum Magazine about her career, success, criticism, motherhood and her new agenda for Kenya’s youth. Take a look;

#1 From the tender age of 10 she wanted to be a criminal lawyer

After being told by James Falkland (the then head of Phoenix Theatres) that there was no future in theatre as it earns no money, Julie settled for law. Before that, she had a passion in drama and used to write plays and even won herself speaking awards. It was evident that law did it to her since injustice greatly provokes her. However, the law she learnt only enhanced the inequalities by showing them up. This offended her so much that when she completed it, she went on to study Business Administration. She came back to Kenya and there was the option of going to Kenya School of Law and financially depending on her parents. Instead she went to Capital FM for a voice test. They called her back within hours asking her to start on Monday.

#2 Her show “Sunday Live” was initially meant to be like Oprah’s

When she first landed at Citizen TV from NTV she was willing to take up investigative journalism. However, Wachira Waruru, the Managing Director at Royal Media Services, asked her to first settle down. It took Julie only three months to conceptualize “Sunday Live”. “Initially, it started out as an Oprah concept but a lot of people saw an element of seriousness in what I do and we did not want to lose that. With that the concept evolved,” said Julie.

#3 Julie is a UNICEF Ambassador

She is working with UNICEF on a Baby Banda campaign, teaching women about breastfeeding. “I remember breastfeeding my two babies once in a doctor’s waiting room with women looking at me oddly before asking the doctor if that was normal! My mother kept asking me why I was still breastfeeding my son Kimoshe at four. I had to remind her that it was my baby and it was my house”, divulged Julie. UNICEF simply called her out of the blue.
Apart from that, she’s also a fellow and trustee member of the African Leadership Initiative, part of the Young Global Leaders, under the World Economic Forum, and has won a Salute to Greatness Award from the Martin Luther King Foundation in 2008. Aspen Global Leadership Network and African Global Leadership made a bid for her participation and now she flies around the world, taking part.

#4 She is an actively involved mother of four and a wife with a parallel and equally involving life in the limelight.

“I have so much more time for my children now but of course as a mother there are things that you wish you could do like a stay-at-home mum who is there all the time can. But you have to find balance,” said Julie.
Like every other mother, Julie barely has a minute to herself. “I do a facial at home once a week. I love relaxing in the tub. Sometimes I just send my kids away and tell them to give me half an hour to think and do my thing while they are reading or doing some other thing. The difficulty with doing that much preening is that the kids are young and if I spend time doing that then I feel I am taking it away from the kids,” revealed Julie.
Sunday also includes an editorial meeting, time with family and grooming for television. “I go to the salon right before “Sunday Live” and ask them to do everything in a flurry of 45 minutes,” she said adding, “I had started at the gym but stopped. I do yoga type stretches at home. When I eat junk I try to detox with fruits and vegetables.”

#5 Her father struggled to take her through University

Contrary to the public belief that she comes from a well-off family and that she should not be struggling so much. “Where do people get that impression from? I think you are talking about my father in law. It is important for young people not to expect their parents to provide for them. My father was in the army, and his Asian family settled in Kenya. The army was nothing to complain about, but sending me to university was something of a struggle. Not an easy thing to do on a secretary’s salary either for my mum. The heaviest investment my parents ever made was in their children,” revealed Julie.

#6 She’s a go-getter who is not afraid to float her ideas to her bosses

One may think that since she’s Royal Media’s Digital Manager and senior TV anchor she has achieved everything. However to Julie she still wants to broaden her horizons. “I want to do a lot of programming and executive producing so there is going to be a lot of convincing”, said Julie. She revealed that she shares her ideas with her bosses as well as to debate, urge, argue and push them.

#7 All of Julie’s shows have been a success

The number of television shows Julie has done is phenomenal. “My first live talk show was Capital Openline on Capital FM 2001.I hosted Ndura Waruinge the head of Mungiki at that time, who had a warrant out for his arrest. It was an explosive show and at the end Phil Matthews burst into the studio and said, “This is your niche Julie! You were born to do this!”

At KTN there was ‘Business as Usual’, ‘The Inside Story’ which was Kenya’s first investigative documentary, and ‘The Third Opinion’ after Kathleen Openda left.

On NTV she created and produced the popular political debate program ‘Showdown’ hosted in the first season by Mutula Kilonzo and Mirugi Kariuki, and in the second season by Kilemi Mwiria and Billow Kerrow. She also created, produced and hosted ‘The Fourth Estate’, ‘On the Spot’, ‘The People’s Voice’, ‘Voices of Reason’, and produced and hosted ‘You the Jury’.

Then she moved to Citizen TV where she is now on ‘Sunday Live with Julie Gichuru’, ‘Fist to Five for Change’, ‘Eye on Katiba’ and ‘Great Debaters Contest’.

However, her attempt to run a magazine failed terribly as she ended up with a lot of debt and spent three years trying to pay them off.” And most recently, she decided to venture into fashion business (MIMI) with her husband, Anthony.

#8 Her husband, Anthony, manages her persona in public

With a wife as beautiful as Julie it is expected that any man would be the most insecure, not so for Anthony Gichuru. I am so thankful for my husband. If, for instance, I do not notice someone waving, he will tell me, ‘Julie, wave to that person over there. Now turn to your right and wave to the others over there. He manages it (her public persona) well and is very confident in himself. If I did not have that kind of support, I don’t think I would be able to do my job the way I do. I would be pulling my hair out on a daily basis. I go home and ask him how the show was. If he says ‘not good’ I think, bummer. If he says ‘it was great,’ I think, great.
When we meet people in Nakumatt, Westgate or Kikopey, I take photos with people and I leave him with the kids. He is really patient. That is really great.” So, no stalkers then? “None. When I get a gift, it says Julie Gichuru and family. It’s clear. There is no room for any misunderstanding so I do not have to deal with that. I am such a mathee!”

#9 Julie dresses to inspire young people

Her Sunday Live attire is designed to bring in younger viewers who think news is a dull, boring adult affair. Also, Julie says that, “Kenyans idolize politicians so guess what I’m going to wear sweet skirts, skinny trousers and girlie dresses. I will play with it so that you have something else to talk about that is different and so that Kenyans can stop focusing on politicians. It is a whole mind shift right in line with my ideas for the new generation. I want to work with young people.

#10 She loves watching cartoons

“The funniest thing to do is watch TV with my kids. I love cartoons and I introduced them to Star Wars and they show me the latest animations. For me it is all about the warmth and love that is created. I keep thinking soon enough I will be alone with my hubby. I try to guard my family and it is important to me that they are protected at all times,” revealed Julie.

There you have it…

Update on Nairobi Half Star’s Hacked Facebook. Cyber-Criminal Still on the Loose

Yesterday, the Facebook account of Nairobi Half Life actor and Kalasha Award nominee for his role as Oti in the same film, Maina Olwenya, was hacked by an unknown individual.

Last evening, Maina Olwenya regained control of his Facebook and managed to retrieve everything on his profile. The money that was deposited in the aforementioned number’s M-Pesa was withdrawn in Ngara using an unregistered number. The issue is currently being investigated by the CID.

Size 8 Said What About Lesbians?

Size 8 was recently at Kenya’s foremost (possibly only) Sheng radio station.

And she gave a rather open and candid response to a question she was asked. The question touched on what Africans consider a taboo topic: homoseuality. And so explosive is this topic that when Tacos decided to mishandle it, they ended up having to wind down operations and i-Club replaced it. But moving right along, the question sought to find out Size 8’s stance on matters pertaining to female homosexual relations: lesbians.

Let me first say that to talk about this topic takes stones and more so when you say you support people’s freedom to be whatever they want to but more importantly, to be who they truly are. But Size 8 merely said she’s ambivalent about what other people do as long as they do so in private so as not to offend people.

CHAT-2.jpg

At the end of the day given how conservative Kenyans are, even being indifferent to lesbianism as it were is breaking from the norm and it needs to be recognized. Size 8 however clarified that she is straight. Have a listen to the recording below:

Maina and King’ang’i In The Morning: Wives Who Deny Men “ParePare”

So today Maina and King’angi in the morning were discussing the issue of wives who deny their husbands their conjugal rights.

This convo stems from a lady who called in to complain that whenever she tell her husband that she doesn’t want to have sex, he demands it saying it’s his human right seeing as he’s married and he didn’t pay dowry for nothing.
And today’s conversation had all the lads in the office tuned in and paying attention. We at Ghafla tend to agree that when a man pays dowry, he has “bought” his wife, self same way a man walks into the supermarket and pays for deodorant.
And the men who called in also shared this view. Dowry is no longer about showing “appreciation”, it is just another method of extorting money from the potential son-in-law. But that’s just how I see things. The men who called in were hard put to understand why their wives would deny them sex after they’ve paid dowry then “dey vex” (get angry) when the men step out of their marital beds.

200261_210345788980078_118509838163674_935244_4459988_n.jpg
But one female caller called in and I couldn’t help but laugh at what she said. Apparently, she’s a second wife to a man who is well off but the man is “too demanding” as she put it. And all this is inspite of the fact that he hasn’t paid dowry for her but he does indeed take care of her in every aspect a man should for his wife. The first wife must be getting her seven chuckles in!
Another female caller said that men need to understand that these days women work and the threat about not paying rent and the bills is a non issue. Also it’s not a persistent problem because sometimes women are sick or on their periods. Are there any Red Sea pirates out there hmmmm?
A female caller called in next to advise men to wait until the woman is relaxed like on a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon. And at that point someone in the office asked whether a man pays dowry for limited access.
The next caller was a man who advised men to simply stop asking. Apparently, this formula has worked wonders for him because he gets sex frequently and it comes with no strings attached. And at this point allow me to go off on a tangent: I agree with this chap! Demand and supply is an economic principle that rules supreme over various aspects of our lives, sex included.
The next caller was a female who I believe thus far to be the only female caller who had a point worth speaking out. According to her, her man is “too big”. She cannot take daily attention thus needs a day or two to recuperate and prepare… And here I always thought women enjoyed constant attention from endowed men.
Seriously though, I will never understand women for as long as I walk the earth. They constantly call in to berate King’ang’i about useless Kenyan men yet when they have men who do not shirk their responsibilities; rent, school fees, food, DOWRY, they deny him sex and possibly bring home a lesser man’s offspring?
A man called in to say that his neighbour get home and merely wraps his towel everyone on the plot knows the woman shall gerrit! And this happens everyday! He even follows his wife to the shower on some occasions and asks, “Mama nani, bado? Nina ngoja!” That is a good woman and an excellent wife!
Another man called in to say that he didn’t marry a wife for her to come and regulate the sex they are to have! His wife left her family to join him as man and wife at the expense of several head of livestock and as such he will partake of her fruit whenever he deems fit. Cosign!
And the final word? Well, it was had by a woman who called in to say women are wrong to deny their women then they complain that their men are going out to look for sex from “clandes”! Her man on the other hand has no excuse because he gets it whenever he asks. And this is a woman who knows how to keep the home stable and strong!

Kenzo: “Matatu Is NOT About My Ex”

It is said that the higher they climb, the further they fall. Kenzo has been riding high with his latest hit, ‘Matatu’ which he sang with K-mess, but as usual, the haters have crawled out of their cocoon to bring the guy down. He has recently been a man under fire. ‘Matatu’ with K-mess has been interpreted in some quarters as being about his previous relationship with his ex-girlfriend. The drama has escalated to a level where his ex’s mum tried to talk to him about his mishandling of the drama.

Kenzo called us to clarify the whole issue: “Matatu is not about my ex. That song is simply about relationships in general. A lot of people thought it was me hitting out at my ex, because the way we broke up was not the best, but that is not the case.”

If it local and low key I there!

The load testing results for the Cooler Master GX 650W were so close to being a pass, but ultimately this unit could not overcome its antiquated design issues. Through the 120v testing today the unit survived but it posted mediocre voltage regulation, particularly on the 12v rail with its 0.45v drop over its tested loads. In addition to this, the unit posted some very dated efficiency values which range from 77.29% to 82.86%.
