For the better part of the weekend, Mavuno Church has been on the lips of many following a poster on Mavuno’s Teenz Konnekt Twitter page. Titled “Blurred Lines” the poster was condemned on social media for being too lewd and explicit for the Church especially for the photo used and the words, “You can gerrit”.

Following the uproar on Twitter and Facebook, the Church’s pastor defends the poster saying it’s all in a bid to reach the teens with the images and language they use and understand.

And now, celebrity TV/radio personalities have been drawn into the debate put their two cents into the raging debate that’s not about to die down.

Over the weekend, Mavuno Church decided to steer away from the norm; they tried reaching out to the youth with things they can relate to, seeking inspiration from some of the biggest hits of 2013 and popular S&M book. 

They put up a poster of a couple with a girl’s thighs exposed with to advertise a teenage convention dubbed Blurred Lines that aimed to teach children about sex in a language they can understand.

The convention would be held in 4 days (2nd, 9th,16th and 23rd March) and each day would have its own theme 2nd You can gerrit,9th Shades of gray 16th blurred lines and 23rd Friends with a monster. You can check out the poster here:

This poster has caused quite the storm on social media especially among the Bible Thumpers who condemned the church for being too liberal with religion.

In the spirit of the hottest discussion in the country, Maina and King’angi decided to discuss this controversial move by the church.

They posed this question: Should churches remain conservative or is it a wonderful strategy for them to ‘coolify’ the church? We’re talking about that controversial poster by Mavuno church that was for the teens and it caused uproar on Social Media over the weekend. Pastor Mureithi says that this is to connect with the teens and it is because this is where the teens’ (youths) minds are. For some time now the bigger portion of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya Royalties cake has been enjoyed by urban based artists and those with a national appeal. Well ‘mashinani’ artists are about to get their footing and share of goodies in a big way.

MCSK CEO Maurice Okoth has been engaged lately and has signed agreements with radio stations nationwide among them in Coast- Pilipilifm, Sheik Fm; Eastern- Mangelete Fm, Mugambo, Wikwatyo Fm; Western-Nyota radio, Radio Mambo, Radio  Sahara; Rift valley- Jesus is Lord, Hero fm, Sayare Fm, Fish Fm, Christco Fm, Radio Injili; Nyanza- Namlolwe, Radio Sunset, Gulf radio.

This is in part of a strategy involving MCSK partnering with the regional based radio and television stations in promotion of the regional based artistes. Fears of this affecting any artist negatively have been allayed by MCSK who say the focus will still be as normal on the main stream radio and television distributions and artistes and this strategy will not prejudice any of the artists. It simply is an expansion of the pool of artistes.

Either way the biggest beneficiary is the rural artist who can now have a first taste of royalty.

The entire week has been characterized by back and forth verbal exchanges pitting Gospel singers Ringtone on one side and Papa Dennis & Jimmy Gait who did a 2.5 million video recently. Well, if you haven’t been following read the whole drama HERE.

The latest from the breakneck give-and-take is that sexy recording and performing artist, Tiera Gee, has chimed in on the same. Tiera took a swipe at Ringtone for denying that he doesn’t recognize Papa Dennis.

“How dare he say he can’t remember Papa when the 3 of us (Ringtone, Ng’ang’alito & myself) were invited for a show in Matunda by Sadat and Papa was among the guys that danced for us?” queries the Diaspora Artist of the Year – 2012 at the Kenya Coast Music Awards.

A shocked Tiera adds, “Am so shocked that Ringtone is now pretending he doesn’t tambua Papa, it’s so bad.”

She reveals that Papa was one of the dancers that stood out thanks to his choreography skills something that made them contemplate taking him to Nairobi to nurture his talent.

According to Tiera, “Ringtone is just jealous that an artist that was discovered when he witnessed is now doing bigger and better things that him”, adding, “Ringtone na ukubwa wake hana haya ata kumwingilia mtoto orphan ambaye talent yake ndio inamfanya arise!”

Meanwhile, Ringtone maintains that he just highlighted an issue that’s the talk of town.

“Me sina beef na mtu, nilisema tu ukweli.”

Well, let’s wait and see how this will play out over the weekend.

Towards the end of last year and for the better part of 2014, the ‘Fundamentals fever’ swept across the country making Ken wa Maria a household name. While that happened, ‘Fundamentals’ became everyone’s ringtone and every club’s anthem.

Meanwhile on YouTube was going viral and there were even rumours that Ken has even been approached by many big artists to do a remix of the song (#winning) but he has not yet made his decision and to think that he did this song as a joke.

Well, with all these publicity wa Maria had to grab this opportunity to make his brand visible. Today, the ‘Fundamentals’ hit-maker has officially joined social media; Twitter, Facebook and IG.

Whenever the word bleaching is brought up, it usually gets the lads and lasses I work with wagging their tongues about Nigerians. And they always remind me of the fact that I share some heritage with skin bleachers. but now the tide has turned and I present to you the bleaching chronicles.

And today I have a lass who has played the part of vivacious video vixen in times long forgotten before she took on a new role as an entertainer. Her name is Natasha Minneh and she is in the process of ridding her body of melanin in the hopes of becoming a model in a Casper the Friendly Ghost look alike.

I was alerted to this lady who has decided to ditch her melanin as though it were a full time job by a friend of mine on Facebook who has more on the lass and you can find them here.

Late last year, Bishop TD Jakes caused a stir when he bragged that his Ministry is the reason why Kenya is up and running. “The natives all over Kenya drink water because of this ministry. And the hospital survives because of this ministry.” This as well didn’t go down well as KOT came out guns blazing forcing an apology from the Potter’s House minister.

Few hours ago, award-winning UK Gospel singer, Lurine Cato, referred to Citizen TV as “Smaller Budget TV Shows”. Commenting on a Facebook post by Lupita Nyong’o, the 2013 BEFFTA award winner said, “Thank u for never forgetting your back ground and that you chose to be interviewed on the smaller budget tv shows as well.”

Her comment came after Lupita had posted the promo video for exclusive interview with Lilian Muli which airs tonight (9PM) on Citizen TV.

Isn’t it so ironical that someone would refer to Kenya’s number one TV station as a “Smaller Budget TV Show” or is it just ignorance on their part?

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the name Attitude, it’s probably because you are children of the 2010s. You probably think Lil Wayne is a rapper in which case I have nothing to offer you. Leave dis place! but if you know what I know about the golden age of Kenyan music then you know all about K-South and Mercy Myra, Attitude, Chiwawa and Kleptomaniacs.

And this is about one of the men who brought Kenyan rap to the level of maturity it’s at. And I am all about that now. The man seems to have decided to diversify his portfolio and has now added enterpreneur to his cap. And he is making moves in what is traditionally a saturated market -the American hiphop scene.

And he is doing it with some of the most critically acclaimed artists and aye, they may not have the love of the mainstream but they are respected. Check out the video that Attitude’s team made for the legends that are Murda Mook and Peedi Crakk:

The video is all about showing off lyrical prowess and because it’s American artists, not alot shall be said about that. What I will say is that it’s about time for Attitude to head back home. We need his skill set. The video quality is crisp and the transitions between cut scenes are so fluid it actually feels like a one-take video.

In addition to all the celebrity-born babies welcomed in 2013, other stars are expecting children in the New Year. One of the stars is Q FM’s Ali Baba whose wife is due to give birth sometime in 2014.

Ali Baba’s wife, Wanjiku may just be one of the most adorable pregnant mamas ever. Earlier in the week, the celebrated radio presenter posted a photo of himself and Wanjiku flaunting her growing baby bump much to the delight of friends and fans who posted their goodwill messages.

It’s not yet known when the couple is expecting the arrival of their little angel but the baby bump is clearly seen in the dress worn by Wanjiku. Check out this cute couple;

Aye, that is just how good the make-up artist that made that work of art is. So gone are the days of Cobra Squad’s horrible make up and bad blood. Now we usher in the age of good make up artists who can transcend art and indeed, this is some surreal sort of -I am trying hard not to cuss because honestly, this is awesome!

Something which the host denied and emphasized that he is not in control of the playlist plus he could only play music that was suitable for the whole family. The artiste who goes by the name Blaqy Blaq has since patched up things with the Mambo Mseto host.
