When Vera Sidika appeared on Larry’s “The Trend” show to flaunt her skin bleaching operation that cost Ksh 50 million, the world discussed it. Vera was all over the media both locally and internationally.
With the media glorifying her bleaching trend and young girls describing her as a role model; on the other side of the atlas, somewhere in Atlanta, a Kenyan artist and entrepreneur, K-Nel was not amazed.
Inspired by the event, K-Nel decided to hit the studio and recorded this club banger titled “Vera SHINDIKA” which is produced by the talented Ghostboy based in Boston and features an African-American singer Jae Rich. This banger will not only break the club but will also break the internet.
K-Nel wastes no time, he goes straight to business armed with heavy punch lines like “…Mikono Nyeupe, Magoti nyeusi utadhani in Zebra” (Bleaching victims are known to have light skin but certain parts like knees, elbows never get light. The same applies to their private parts, just medical facts).
On the opening verse, K-Nel welcomes his haters with the message “These clowns wanna talk, shhhhh, better be in my tax bracket/Mnabonga Mavi ha? Wapi bucket.” He then proceeds to the funny “Warren Buffet” line to break it down; “Black is beautiful, black is gold, black is beautiful, don’ sell your soul” which becomes the theme message of his record.
He goes on to mention Lupita Nyong’o who was nominated “Woman of the year” in 2014 saying she got all those credits and possesses nothing but natural beauty. Her lovely black skin and short natural hair became her beauty signature.
Don’t get it twisted, there is no spelling mistake in “SHINDIKA”. Asked about it, K-Nel broke down the artistic definition of the title and narrated how he used Vera as a metaphor. Note it’s “vera” in lower cases. The next term “SHINDIKA” for the Swahili experts, it means “to be defeated”.
“So what am simply saying is we should not let this trend of skin bleaching or lightening as she proudly described it be encouraged in our African culture. Sane people understand the health consequences of this health malpractice! It’s simply wrong, point blank, period. Yeah vera, they poisoned your blood with mercury and this is what you want others to do?” K-Nel uttered.
We should all be reminded her picture went viral just the other day as it reflected her skin appearing darker on some areas and lighter on other areas. Maybe this is what K-Nel referred to as “Uso nyeupe, magoti nyeusi, utadhani in Zebra”. vera SHINDIKA music video will premier in February and has already been shot. K-Nel promised the music video will make the sun stop for 60 seconds when it premiers. We are all excited about it!
