Mike Njenga’s life is another story of ‘rags to riches’. The Citizen TV anchor revealed his taste for shoes was inspired by a pastor’s insult.
In an interview with eDaily, Mike Njenge narrated how a senseless pastor made him to be obsessed with shoes.
Njenge explained how the pastor caused him the pain of a lifetime when he made fun of the borrowed shoes he had worn.
“Some years back, I was working for a certain church. I used to do sound for that particular church; and sometimes would sleep at City Hall on days we held conferences there. I was extremely broke. One Sunday, I went and borrowed open shoes from my cousin. I did not even have money to buy shoe polish. So, I used a sponge soaked in water to wipe dust from the shoes. When we got to church, he called his ministers to a meeting, including myself. He gave us a tongue-lashing, saying we did not dress the part. I remember him saying: ‘Some of you are coming to my pulpit wearing open shoes as if you are at the beach,” Njenga narrated in part.
Njenga goes on to reveal that the pastor’s insult broke his heart even making him to drift from the church henceforth.
The Citizen TV anchor further disclosed that he developed an obsessive interest in buying shoes thanks to the pastor’s insult.
“The pastor’s mean remarks did not stop me from working hard to be who I am today. Right now if you come to my house, I have so many pairs of shoes – some I have not even worn for a year. I developed craze for shoes from that day.”
President Uhuru Kenyatta has embarked on a nationwide tour to mobilise Kenyans who are eligible to vote to register as voters ahead of August 8th general election.
And just to make sure his message had a bigger impact on the Kenyan youth, the head of state enlisted the help of Thitima duo, Kymo and Stigah.
The trio; Uhuru, Kymo and Stigah, posted a video urging eligible Kenyans to register as voters. In the video, Uhuru is seen telling unregistered Kenyans that they will be struck by electricity (thitima) if they fail to register as voters.

President Donald Trump has fired all American ambassadors who had been appointed by former President Barack Obama.
The Independent says all US ambassadors have been fired and with no concrete replacement lined up shortly after Trump was sworn in as president.
Apparently they were told to leave their offices by midday on 20 January (the same day Trump was sworn in) and with no grace period.
In contrast with previous US Presidents, Trump’s transition team had said on 23 December there would be no exceptions for ambassadors requesting to extend their postings past Inauguration day.
US Embassy in Nairobi hasn’t issued any statement in regard to the fate of US ambassador to Kenya, Robert F. Godec, following the moved by Trump.

Former President Barack Obama appointed Godec as US ambassador to Kenya in September 2012; he presented his credentials to President Uhuru Kenyatta on February 15th 2013.
Trump’s move will cut off a direct line between foreign presidents and the US government, until Senate-confirmed envoys are appointed.

Al Jazeera reporter has mocked the Kenyan government posing with Al Shabaab commanders said to be killed in airstrikes a few years ago.
Hamza Mohamed has claimed that he met Al Shabaab commanders whom the Kenyan government had announced that they had killed in airstrikes.
Hamza is a British national who works for Al Jazeera as a producer and reporter covering Sub-Saharan Africa.

Hamze posted a photo of him and other Al Shabaab commanders on twitter on January 12th claiming that the commanders were still at large despite the Kenyan government claiming that they had killed them.

The #bringcarolhome is currently trending on twitter and it has brought with it a wave of sadness among Kenyans; it surrounds the story of one Carol Kambua, who was stuck in India for a whole year due to a pending medical bill amounting to around 3 million.

When I lived in Kibera, I shared my modest crib with Onyango, Kimani, Kipngeno, Mutisya and Abdi. Abdi and Kimani shared a bed because Abdi was new to the city. The only thing that seperated our “bedrooms” was a “leso”, an old dirty bed sheet and a black polythene sheet that Mutisya had picked on his way from Industrial area.
We shared everything and we showered in shifts and on alternate Sundays. Life was hard but we were happy. Kimani pushed mkoko at Marigiti and in the evening he will come home with a mixture of almost everything that was sold at the market. From it, we made a stew. Every day it tasted distinctly different and authentic even though the ingredients remained the same, the quantity varied. Sometimes the pilipili or dania will be in plenty hence the taste of the day. We listened to Kameme together and KBC salamu za hodi hodi together and shared ushindi bar soap for washing and geisha Kubwa for bathing. Played draught at weekends.
In short we were more than brothers, and we remained so for 5 years until the elections were called. It was time to part ways. We got new identities jaluo, mkamba, kaleo, sapere, walalo and Banye. Identifying ourselves with the rich politicians we shared a language with was the thing, not the poor we had been with for years.
The wealthy man from my tribe won the election I headed to the same room I had shared for five years with people of my class, albeit with some election posters to deco our crib. Mheshimiwa headed for Grand Regency to celebrate. That night we slept without food. After a while things came back to normal we were back to sharing everything with Abdi, musyoka Onyango etc. Whenever there was bereavement amongst us, we all attended. Just the poor people. Mheshimiwa was busy on the beach. But when Mheshimiwa got bereaved I mourned for him for weeks, even though I won’t be let to go past his gate. When he engaged in Corruption, I defended him fiercely just because he spoke my Language, to cut short…..I voted for mheshimiwa, he lives big but life for me, Onyango, Kimani, Abdi is still the same.
What if we had voted for one of us regardless of his tribe, could life be different??????? Identify with your own true tribe. RICH or POOR are the real tribes of Kenya. However the latter are the Majority and are ruled by the minority. Poor people rise up and fight for your rights Did you know the only common thing between you and your much cherished Mheshimiwa is the language. Nothing else NOTHING!!!!!!!!! But the list of common things you share with Musyoka, Onyango, Abdi is endless.

“The one guy that truly opened my eyes to the talent I did not know I had. He introduced me to the word of recording music and doing voice overs. And boy did he push me into it. We were struggling young men, myself, Paul and kibby…who had dreams of being big in the entertainment world.
“One day, when I figured things are not working out, I decided to change my location, packed my bags from Mombasa and moved to Nairobi, with nothing in my pocket. In fact, it was my girlfriend at the time Brenda who paid my bus ticket to Nairobi.
“I arrived at a big city, and said I would make it work here somehow. I kept praying every day, and one day God gave me a way out. I went to have a soda at a restaurant called Alfajiri along Dennis Pritt road. I had 1000Ksh on me that I had made from a “kibarua”. I had said I will spoil myself that day.
“As I drank my soda, I saw a long line of people going into a tent. I paid no mind to it. But when I was done with my soda, and was waiting for my change (which was taking forever to come), I decided to join this line out of curiosity.
“Turns out Hot 96 FM was looking for presenters. I got to the desk in the tent, and I remember it was Chris Okinda who asked me, “Pretend you are doing a show..tupacs song just ended..how would you do that link?” I took a deep breath and just spoke. Chris told me to move to the next stage, where I was told to read a news script…which I did.
“I was then told…we will contact you. Long story short, In a matter of 3 weeks, I was employed as a radio presenter at Hot 96. Thanks to Mure David who will always be my brother. He was the head of radio who saw something raw and untapped in me. Mure David gave me my first TV show called The Loop, hooked me up with MC gigs, Karaoke Gigs and helped me build my brand on ground and on air. Thank you for that.
“I worked at Hot 96 for 3 years, and after those years, my current boss came calling, and took me to Xfm Kenya where I have been till now. At X FM i met Jeff Mote who hooked me up with the auditions for Sports Central and today I am on two TV stations every Thursday.
“Today I appear on newspapers read by millions as they advertise my TV show. I have been on the cover of magazines and won two awards for best radio presenter. Today I can shelter my mother, a woman who for the longest time after my dad died had been without a place to call her own.

After Ghafla highlighted the story of renowned dancer and Citizen TV alumni Jo1 who it appears has been having a rather unique relationship with one of her male staff, a lot of feathers we raffled.
In our earlier story, which we had published in confidence after gathering a mountain of what we thought was indestructible evidence from a source we were confident was close to the singer and dancer, we reported that Jo1 might (notice : MIGHT) be having an extramarital affair with one Adrian Kibai her social media handler.
Admittedly, we had been tipped of this story for a while now but we had been keeping it on the down low fill we collected what we believed was going to be sufficient evidence. And at least, talked to the parties involved who somehow didn’t reply to our requests soon as we wanted.
We have to also admit that our source also turned out to be some sort of psycho who, as it turned out, actually had a relationship with Adrian before it ended and now she was bitter and came running to Ghafla to try and malign her ex boyfriend and also slander Jo-1 in the process.

We obviously should have investigated our source deeper but we sadly got too carried away by her tip offs to care.
On her part, Jo1 has been more than gracious to us and also asked that we can solve this impasse amicably.
And because we are all about transparency and accountability, and also because we’ve finally learned that our source was actually a scorned ex-lover, we sincerely apologize to Jo1 for any embarrassment or trouble caused by our initial story.
Ghafla and Jo1 have always enjoyed a fabulous relationship and we obviously don’t intend to wreck that. Jo-1, for the uninitiated, is a former judge on the wildly popular Citizen TV dance show Sakata where she eminently sat on the judging throne for over four seasons.

King Kaka has revealed his latest song ‘Senzenina’ was a dedication to his nephew who passed away on 12th July 2016.
The rapper says his nephew passed on four months after he was born prematurely; Kaka had named the baby ‘Moran’ because he fought like a warrior to survive after he was born at 7 month.

It is very much clear voter apathy has no position in the new age Kenya and leaders are in the forefront to make sure it dies a quick death. And they are not just pleading with the citizenry in public but actually taking measures, very drastic ones for that matter.
And here lies some of them in no particular order:
In Kisumu for example Boda Boda riders have vowed not to ferry anyone who doesn’t bear an ID and a voter’s card. That has become a priority even surpassing the fare that you give them and some are going to the extent of ferrying you to a polling station first before taking you to your destination.
The situation is not any different in Embu where the County Commissioner Esther Maina has threatened to arrest or deny basic services to residents who don’t have voter’s cards or identity cards. Even those suffering from hunger will not be offered relief food unless they produced this important document.

In Nyeri, tea farmers have been warned that their harvest won’t be weighed unless they produced these two documents. This decision was arrived at by the head of farmers Mr. Julius Mwangi decision that most farmers actually supported.

She joined the military at 22 and was fortunate to be part of the Zambian Air Forces programme to train female pilots which was started to bridge the gender gap in the field.
Second Lieutenant Thokozile Muwamba quit as a first-year student at the Copperbelt University (CBU) to join the military and pursue her dream career of being a pilot a decision which has finally paid off.

“Men are not a competition but counterparts that one should work with, and hence women should begin to participate and realize their abilities. Because of this understanding, I am ready to undertake this task ahead of me,” she told local media Times of Zambia last week when asked about her experience in being in a male dominated field.
I look at the fact that when I am in the aeroplane, the aircraft knows no sex as it depends on my input even if I am a woman. I can also give it the right steering for it to respond correctly,” She further added.
And what does it take to achieve what she has achieved? Well, hardwork and determination she made it clear.

Bahati Bukuku has felt the need of opening up about her broken marriag to fans who often draw their inspiration from her songs.
The Tanzanian gospel singer set the record straight by admitting that she is divorced from her husband and father her kids while on an interview with EATV’s Kikaango Show . The Dunia Haina Huruma hit maker explained that her marriage had the usual problems most couples face but she opted for a separation which was the best in her opinion.
She went further to brush off rumors claiming her husband left after finding out she had an affair with a certain doctor. Bahati says that most people tend to link her life story with her music video Dunia Haina Huruma which she played the role of a submissive wife who slept with her doctor inorder for her husband to be discharged from hospital.
My now ex-husband did not do such a thing. Though there’s a part of the song which was drawn from my real-life experience. Irreconcilable differences was the premise for our divorce.
The singer however admitted that she faced some of the issues and problems portrayed in her video. But as much as she is no longer with her ex husband, Bahati Bukuku said she could not talk accuse her husband falsely just for the sake of it.

The bishop’s wife and the MCA vanished from a funeral they were attending and sneaked into a bush to quench their sexual thirst.
A Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Kakamega County was busted smashing a bishop’s wife in a bush on Tuesday January 17th.
The two lovebirds had attended a funeral which the woman’s husband was leading before they sneaked out and went into a nearby bush to make love.
Mourners who had gone into the bush to relieve themselves were the ones who busted the MCA and the bishop’s wife eating the forbidden fruit.
The wife’s husband, Bishop Abel Lijoti of African Divine Church, was heard saying that he had been suspecting his wife of having extra marital affair when he learnt about what had happened.
The MCA, who is fled from the scene when he was caught pants down, denied the allegations saying his political enemies are behind the malicious story;
“The propaganda has ruined my reputation, and it hurts me. They claim they busted me with the said woman, whereas I was at my home Monday night by 10:00 pm, actually asleep beside my wife. I have investigated and established that the allegations were started by my political enemies who are out to ruin my reputation. I cannot sleep with someone’s wife. I will take legal action against the perpetrators of the malicious rumours,” The MCA was quoted as saying.
