From a distance, Octopizzo and Kim Kardashian couldn’t be more worlds apart.

Kim grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth her father having been OJ Simpsons’ friend and defense attorney while Octopizzo grew up in abject poverty in the sprawling slums of Kibera.

But there is something they have in common, their daughters who look like they were cut from the same cloth.
I came across this photo posted by Nick Mutuma and i couldn’t’t help but agree with him about how alike Octopizzo’s little one and Nori looked alike.

Apart from keeping you with tabs of the on goings of the tantalizing Kenya’s entertainment industry, we’re also keen on having fun and enjoying ourselves so if we’re not popping bottles at Skyluxx on a Friday night, we’re exploring and discovering the many gems in this our beautiful country.

Last weekend was one of those days and we went to unravel this gem hidden somewhere on the slopes Mt. Kenya. Word was going around about this place which apparently is owned by one of the most influential person in the media and which had become a celebrity haven.

Our journey was to commence at around 8AM on Saturday but we ended up leaving the CBD at around 10AM. Blame it on you our loyal readers as most of us spent Friday night sourcing for stories to tell; trust me it’s a difficult task to keep you people informed. So all 5 of us bundle up in this RAV 4 out to go and reveal this hidden gem. In this case I’m referring to Baba Ghafla who you all know is the founder of GHAFLA. Then is Tony our photographer, Chaonya the web developer, Sheila our customer relations head, Phyllis the sales executive and I as one of the writers.

As usual the drive is swerve and amazing as we get to crack jokes on everything. Mostly about what’s going on in our entertainment industry and partly about our sexual lives-yes at Ghafla we go TMI like that. We also diverge into other people’s sex lives for a second and the ranging topic ends being who is gay in the media industry and what our opinion on the same is. Of course we had conflicting opinions but be lest assured we’re coming up with a list on the same which is bound to blow you away. Things got a tad too interesting that we completely forgot about the sense of time and we only got wind of this as we soon approached Sagana.

The landscape here is completely amazing and thus we took some photos and after around 45 minutes we make our first stop in Karatina which definitely has to be our Hollywood in this part of the Sahara. They’re lucky to have a Starbucks in the vicinity, Chicken inn and even another Changes Bar and lounge; quite fascinating that we decide to make our first stop there. That’s when we embark on taking photos and the residents start giving us that quizzical look. Trust me; it’s really hard being a superstar that a newspaper vendor whispered some very insulting words when we failed to buy the paper. I guess she couldn’t understand how such posers lacked a meagre 60 bob. We enter Maathai supermarket, buy some refreshments and ask around for the directions of this hidden gem. It’s referred to as Chaka Ranch and lucky enough everyone seems to be familiar with the place. Open for a few weeks and the place had already made headway, what exactly was this place? We were getting a little inquisitive.

 

So without wasting time, we embark on our journey again up until the Nyeri Nanyuki junction. We make a slight stop as we contemplate on asking for more directions but fortunately see a very big sign board directing us to the place. Soon enough we’re on the Nanyuki road doing 80km/hr and listening to the funny stories being told by Chaonya; this guy has very weird stories regarding his escapades with women. We reach a small shopping Centre called Chaka and right ahead there is another sign board directing us to Chaka Ranch. I must say these signboards are very well designed and positioned. We follow a route which looks like a journey to nowhere. Very green vegetation, picturesque landscapes and very empty roads; this might be a place for selected few I figured; so serene with a very cool ambience. Soon enough we come to our last signboard which directs us to a murram road and that’s when we now we’re here. Our hearts melt with anticipation.

It seems not only us boiling with anticipation as a Landcruiser V8 soon bullies us wanting to pass and automatically assume it’s heading to the same place. I mean why else would someone be doing a 100 on such a rough road? By the way, take notes on this road as it is advisable to drive your way with a four wheel drive vehicle.

Soon enough we’re at the gate and the security is smiling and letting us in. Such polite people I must confess. The place is signified by savannah scrubs, tall grass and perfectly laid out flower beds. And the fresh air, my gaad! I could understand why Jeff Koinage couldn’t stop talking about the place. We make our entry and we’re welcomed by the courteous Wallace who happens to be head of operations. It’s a huge chunk of land with various sections my favourite being the quad bikes and the Magi buggies which were in close proximity-I couldn’t wait to get in one.

In close proximity there was also a well-stocked bar with a magnificent screen and properly laid out stools and I was told that’s place to be to catch the latest on the EPL. Hmmm, football in the wild, that got to be interesting. Before we could engage in any of the same, Wallace informed us that there was lunch to be served- our host was one of a kind I must say. As we made our way to the food court, Wallace was intent on educating us on what exactly Chaka ranch entailed. He referred to it as a small heaven on earth where dwellers of the capital could come and enjoy themselves away from the hustle and bustle. And surely, looking at the place I was pretty sure we were going to have fun.

We reached the food court which was a perfectly laid out garden with properly designed chairs, a grass carpet which is to die for and myriad of delicacies to savour from. It ranges from Nyama Choma, Kuku Choma to the more contemporary burgers, pizzas and hotdogs. Basically there was everything for everyone. We made our orders courtesy of Judy who was our service for the day, a very polite lady who was determined to satisfy our dietary needs to the fullest. As we enjoyed our delicacies- by the way you have to try out their Nyama Choma–our host, one of the most powerful media moguls and owner joined us. A very humble man considering his huge success he comfortably engaged us on his journey to the top which started off as a small editorial position and which has gradually grown over the years to the head of the largest media company in Kenya. He also talked about Chaka and where the whole idea was born from- that will teach you a lot on patience, following your passion and having resilience on whatever you embark on.

And he was keen on keeping us entertained so he insisted on us making our way to the quad bikes and having the time of our lives. And trust me we did and I think you should too. These things will blow you away and make you forget about everything else. We rode and rode some more to expansive lands and river beds of the deeper parts of Mt. Kenya never explored before. Some of us might have crushed in the process- sorry Phyll and Tony- but that is beside the point. We started off with the quad bikes which give you this enthralling feeing as you race along while overlooking the slopes of the Aberdares. This is up until you get on to the Magibuggys and that’s when your adrenaline senses come to life. Good enough this niceties come in various categories including some for kids as young as 8.

And the founder has more in store as he intends on introducing Racing buggies and turn the whole place into a racing arena. How cool is that? Taking you time and engaging in some racing competitions with friends and family in this hidden gem somewhere on the slopes of Mt. Kenya-I bet that’s we all we live for. And trust me many influential people have taken keen notice. I’m talking the likes of Churchill, Jeff Koinange as earlier mentioned and the recent person being Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua.

 

We continued to have fun our latest spot being the bar where we went to catch the Arsenal game. After one of us catching a drink, we were on our way back to Nairobi singing along to 2 chains but one thing stuck in our mind was this fascinating place. Truly Chaka Ranch you’re the best.

 

 

The ‘yellow’-skinned socialite has arguably the most valuable asset of her life: beauty and she has never stopped to make use of it to her level best.

However, this time round she was on the shores of what is believed to be the Indian Ocean in Tanzania enjoying herself after her trip to Dubai as reported early on by Ghafla Kenya.

It has some of the most talented players,but  Gor Mahia has slowly but surely become the most hated club in Kenya. This is because their fans have become a nuisance to many Kenyans and the sight of a crowd of Gor Mahia fans is enough to send someone running for the hills.

Time and time again Gor Mahia fans have proven that they are incapable of conducting themselves like civilized human beings and their matches are often associated with rowdiness and wanton destruction.

Their match with Sofapaka last weekend that ended with a 3-2 loss sent the sore losers into a rampage and they destroyed the beautiful Machakos town. Leaving scorched cars and gratuitous damage in their wake.

This disgusting behavior has pissed off the otherwise calm Alfred Mutua who issued out this statement:

 Gor Mahia is an amazing football club. However, the violent behavior of its fans during and after yesterday’s match against Sofapaka FC in Machakos was despicable and unacceptable.

The people of Machakos are peace loving people and love happiness, good things and development but abhor violence.

As a preventive measure and so as to ensure no one is injured or killed after a Gor Mahia or any other football match in Machakos, the County Government of Machakos has banned Gor Mahia Football team from playing in Machakos County Stadium until further notice.

In addition, the County is invoicing Gor Mahia football team for an estimated Kshs. 10 million as compensation of destroyed County Government and Private property.

In the meantime, police are studying CCTV footage and will be instituting cases against individual rowdy and violent Gor Mahia fans who caused mayhem in Machakos.

The TV siren is well known for a soft-spoken voice but this time time round she has opted to shout her thoughts out after what can be termed as someone crossing the red line.

The Ugandan-born news anchor took to her facebook fanpage to respond to critics who underrate the beauty of Miss World contestants, specifically that of Miss Uganda 2014, Leah Kalanguka, who seems to have received massive ridicule because of her looks.

Doreen was quick to remind the critics that indeed beauty without brains and character is no beauty. She went ahead to explain how Miss Uganda 2014 has conquered almost everything at just 23 years while some very grown up people are unable to vend for themselves.

However, Joy Doreen’s message is not just for the critics of Leah but also to all those going extra miles to enhance their looks and complexions in the name of beauty and handsomeness, oblivious of the fact that brains and character are the most paramount things.

 

 

It was just the other day Timothy Khamala, a Bukusu man from Luhyaland, and Sarika Patel, an Indian lady whose parents live in Western Kenya, made headlines when they beat ethnic and racial boundaries to move in as a couple, something that saw court battles blow up between Sarika parents and Timothy Khamala.

There is a couple who started theirs six years ago, and now they are blessed with three children.

As NTV revealed, GODFFREY OKAYA who hails from Butere in Kakamega county got married to DORCAS OKAYA, a muslim Indian lady he met six years ago when he worked as a security officer near her home in Jomvu, Mombasa.

As fate is, Okaya eloped with Dorcas and that is how they started something that has seen them raise three children to date.

After the Machakos fiasco, wearing a Gor Mahia jersey is one thing that could easily make you be arrested by the cops as they are still busy searching for the hooligans who gave governor Mutua a heart attack.

Larry Asego was a guest of the state for a while after he was arrested by a well known police for wearing Gor Mahia jersey. Larry had a difficult time convincing the cop that he had nothing to do with the Machakos drama but the well known police didn’t want to hear any of his explanations. I couldn’t believe Larry could actually mercilessly plead to be released.

See how Gerald Langiri the cop harassed Larry Asego when he found him wearing that Gor Mahia jersey? Well if you are not comprehending what is really transpiring, let me break it down for you. The above picture was only part of a cast in a film which Larry Asego and Gerald Langiri featured in; so you can bet Larry was not arrested for vandalism that was witnessed in Machakos County after all.

 

Anne Waiguru is not your average Woman, she is not the Woman you mess up with If you have a sound mind, Dennis Itumbi did not have a sound mind , He chose to act like “Grammarly” by correcting a tweet that Anne Waiguru had sent. while retweeting it Ole Itumbi made alterations, little did he know that it was a harbinger of the war to come.

Her journey on radio started at Hits F.M when she hosted the highly rated ‘Morning After’ breakfast show at the station.

Her show was so successful that Kiss 100 wanted her on their team and she got on their team, but their union did not last for so long.

Sources from the station claimed she was fired but Miss Mandi maintained that she resigned. Her next stop was at Capital F.M where she filled in for Amina who was on maternity leave. Amina is back at the station and they have had to share the slot.

But the time had come for Miss Mandi to find something that she could call her own.

 

Now Miss Mandi has decided to venture into something else other than radio, a cooking show on the web. We all know that Miss Mandi has a passion for cooking so it was about time she put her talent to good use.

Brian Osweta was one of the lucky students from Daystar University that got an opportunity to meet former US president George Bush and also visit the Fox 4 News.

Talk of Kenyans going places then one Brian Osweta among other students from Daystar University raised the reputation of the country’s higher learning institutions when they got the privilege freely mingling with former US president George Bush. The students visited Texas which is the home state of the former American president and were lucky enough to be allowed to meet Mr. Bush.

The students also got a chance to visit Fox 4 news which is a TV station located in the city of Dallas; Brian got a chance to present with the American TV.

When Collins Omondi’s  drawing of Uhuru Kenyatta surfaced online, Kenyans were so impressed by it that they shared it relentlessly and excitedly on Social Media.

And as expected,this drawing went viral and it caught the attention of Uhuru Kenyatta who invited him to State House where he showcased his drawing.

Bamboo has been a no-show for a while now, but Ringtone’s erratic behavior on the trend seems to have pulled him from the woodwork.

Ringtone was given an opportunity to weigh in on the MCSK fiasco on The Trend after leading a demonstration during the MCSK gala. But instead of giving a comprehensive report on what went down he gave information that did not just add up. And when he was asked to prove his allegation that MCSK was ripping off artistes he did not have any evidence other than word of mouth. And as we all know, a case is only a s good as the evidence presented.

He could not even answer some of Larry’s questions as it would be expected of someone hosted on a show. This behavior did not go down well with Kenyans with some even recommending that he should be caned for behaving so unsophisticatedly.

“You might get AIDS in Kenya. People have AIDS. You got to be careful, I mean, the towels could have AIDS.” these are remarks made by Televangelist Pat Robertson that earned him unadulterated wrath from Kenyans.

This was because many Kenyans felt that he was not only misinformed but he was further tarnishing the image of Kenya which is already suffering from a bad rep as a terrorism hub.God knows we do not need anymore negative publicity.

Kenyans are not the only ones displeased by the careless comments, even American news anchors are not letting him get away with these completely ridiculous comments. CNN’s Anderson Cooper recently used his Ridiculist segment to go after Pat Robertson for his ‘AIDS ’comments.

After referring to Pat as the ‘grouchy grandpa of televangelism’  and the ‘infinity pool of misinformation’ Cooper sarcastically told viewers “That’s right, the towels could have AIDS. Do not even get him started on the washcloths with Hepatitis C. We’re talking bed, bath and way, way beyond here, people.”

 

He then continued “Just to be clear, if, like Pat Robertson, you somehow missed all the evidence, all the research, the depth and breath of all the knowledge garnered about HIV and AIDS over the past three decades. You cannot get HIV if you share towels.”

Parental care and guidance is paramount for any child and it is the responsibility of every parent to carefully take care of their children. That, without question, debate, argument or disagreement, is paramount.

However, one lady is under heavy attack for child neglect in favour of continental fame.

Sabina Stadler, who was representing Kenya in the Big Brother Africa, the biggest reality show in continental Africa, has come under heavy criticism for neglecting her six months old child for continental glory.

Speaking on NTV’s The trend with Larry Madowo, Sabina, however, strongly denied the allegations levelled against her and termed it as malicious and dubious.

“People think I neglected my child for Big Brother Africa but one thing I want to put clear is I left my child in safe hands. My mother and my sister were there for the child and therefore I did not neglect the kid as some people put it,” Sabina said when Larry Madowo wanted to get her reaction over the same.

Sabina was rejected and ejected from the continental reality show after only two weeks, leaving much room for questioning over the effectiveness of the Kenyans selected for the show and the ability of the representatives to sustain themselves longer in the house.

Melvin Alusa, another Kenyan representative in the show, was evicted yesterday, effectively ending Kenya’s participation in the reality show.

The Television siren who recently came back to our screens after a maternity live is known for her beautiful looks, curvaceous figure and a smiley face.

Now that does not just end there. Betty Kyallo has an even more beautiful sister, Mercy Kyallo.

Surprisingly, without a closer look, the two sisters are likely to confuse you completely, because for real, they take after each other.

Others have labelled the Kenyan representatives all sorts of funny names. The most recent being controversial blogger Robert Alai’s jibe on the latest evictee, Melvin Alusa, where he labelled him not only boring but also shallow and idiotic.

That is hard to take for Alusa but the water has already spilled. So there is no need of throwing tantrums at the representatives.

Sabina was accused of abandoning her six-months old child for the Big Brother Africa show. To others, that is uncalled for while to the rest of the fans, there is no worry over the same.

All said and done, one thing remains for sure: Kenya had no chance in the Big Brother Africa reality show.

Last week I did an article on the possibilities of Alusa being dumped out of the continent’s biggest reality show to date. Some will label me the proverbial prophet of doom. Infact, others have already called me names.

But facts remain facts no matter how hard one tries to change them. Truth was and is, Kenya was not ready for competition. Kenya is not ready for the show and not any time soon are we going to be bracing ourselves to win this coveted award.

Sabina Stadler was the first Kenyan representative to been show the door; heels in, stomach out, eyes out, off to Kenya. That is the bitter reality that hit the former Q TV news anchor.

She was on Larry Madowo’s The Trend on NTV last Friday and even though she looked so composed, Sabina knew down her heart that she had failed and fallen with a thud in BBA.

She wished her fellow Kenyan in the show, Alusa, all the best, oblivious of the fact that Alusa’s time to leave was around the corner. He effectively got rejected and subsequently ejected from the house. He was simply not the hotshot to carry the day.

That said and done, Kenya was not going to go far in Big Brother Africa. Theories have been coined behind this among them being that the representatives were not the hotshots that they were supposed to be. That Alusa and Sabina are parents. That Alusa and Sabina were not just bring but shallow and idiotic. And that, interestingly, Sabina had an accent.

All these and many more can, to some extent, explain why the two Kenyans badly lost in the show, effectively setting the record as the first representatives from the same country to be kicked out of the competition. Kenya set history, subsequently.

But there is a fact that we must know. Voting in BBA is tricky. Votes from 40 million Kenyans are counted as a single vote. So are those from 30 million Ugandans, 40 million Tanzanians and 90 million Nigerians.

In simpler terms, a country’s votes are counted as a single vote. Alusa and Sabina’s evictions simply imply that Kenya is not popular among other African nations. For a contestant to avoid eviction, he/she must get votes from other countries.

Surprisingly, only Kenya voted for Alusa and that is why his one vote sent him packing. This clearly indicates that nations like Namibia and Nigeria are popular than Kenya. And this means that something big must be done amongst us, to sell ourselves to the African continent on the celebrity front.

We may be comforted by the fact that Tanzania also lost one of its representatives but remember we are not competing with Tanzania. We are independent and need to remain that way.

It is also a challenge to the selectors of the representatives. Pick what is marketable. I don’t mean Sabina and Alusa were not marketable but you see what happened. We need proper representation in next year’s edition.

Otherwise Kenya has a long way before it makes a major impact and draw a major surprise in the continent’s biggest reality show, The Big Brother Africa.
